Pretty good spot for some seafood! I was told they were known for their fish n chips, which I tried... Our table ordered the oysters and the huge platter came out. There were different types on the platter which were cool. We also ordered the crab cakes which were all crab and just a touch of crust, which is amazing! The crab cakes were so tasty as you get mouthfuls of crab! You do get served some amazing bread! Tastes so good with the butter, but don't get full on the yummy bread! I decided to order the fish n chips, since the server recommended it. I was amazed when it came out! It was hot and the batter was both crispy yet fish was flaky. The taste was light and airy, not too thick (batter) and fish tasted fresh! The chips were small shoe strings fries, which was perfect since the fish amount was plenty! My friends ordered cobb salads, which looked amazing and plentiful. The salads were large and tasty! The restaurant was chill and servers were extremely friendly. I have trying to eat here for years but for whatever reason I haven't been able to pull it off. Well last Saturday my wife and I were in town for our anniversary and I decided that was the time to finally eat here. I definitely didn't expect to regret it. I called and made reservations earlier in the week to make sure we would get a table, and boy did we get a table. We arrived 10 minutes before our schedule reservation and we were seated immediately. We were taken to the very rear of the restaurant to the smallest table for two I have ever sat, with the back of my chair touching another table's back of their chair. I decided to suck it up and wasn't going to allow this cramp seating to affect my dinner. We ordered soft drinks and corn muffins for an appetizer. Everything good so far. Walking into the restaurant I saw the ribeye on special but our waitress never mentioned it as a special. When we ordered I asked about the ribeye and sure enough it was on the special. I ordered it and my wife ordered and crab cake and crabs legs with piece of grilled corn on the cob. The ribeye came out and I was already disappointed, it looked like a ribeye they sell at Walmart, thin and crispy, it was fatty and gross. I ate it anyway along with the mushrooms, which were good and the mashed potatoes, which were lumpy. The ribeye did come smothered in a brown gravy which I was able to use to choke down the burnt steak and lumpy mashed potatoes. My wife crab cake was really good but the steamed crab legs were tasteless, which means they were frozen for a while. We did share the strawberry cake for dessert, my wife asked for a scoop of vanilla ice cream with the dessert but I guess they forgot. About half way thru the dessert our waitress plops the ice cream down on the table and didn't even apologize. Oh well waited years to try this place and it wasn't even worth it. Very disappointed in the selection of table and the food was meh. Oh btw we saw many other two person seating at much larger tables, not sure what making reservations did for us. read more

The service was great and our waiter was extremely friendly. I visited the restaurant with my girlfriend and a couple of friends on a Saturday evening. We ordered the muffin basket, lobster bisque, fish and chips, and fish tacos. The order for the tacos came out cold, including the fries as well as our muffin basket. I had previously gone to the Fords Fish Shack in Lansdowne and had a great experience, my experience in Ashburn on the other hand was not good. I had gone in to order takeout and the hostess was very rude, If I remember correctly her name was Ayesha she was standing off to the side and I approached her and asked if she could help me but she said she was too busy at the moment and rolled her eyes! While all she was doing was standing with a sour look. On the other hand, the food at Fords is always fantastic, it's delicious and I always find myself craving it. The crabcakes are to die for! The lack of consistency in this restaurant is so very frustrating that today may be the last time we give it another chance. We have been coming here since they opened. It was always the go to place fresh oysters and fish along with good beer and great service. Today our favorite, Angry Mussels were dry, with very little sauce. This is our second time eating at Ford's and they never disappoint. If you want fresh and delicious seafood, this is it! Their mussels is heaven to me. Tomato based soup with chopped chorizo ( that give a little spice kick but not too much) and a crunchy bread to dip the sauce with. Good portion too. My hubby ordered lobster roll ( warm) and I had their specialty for the day which is rock fish with polenta. We also had fried oysters for starters and we had an awesome meal! What happened? Possibly the worst service I've received in a long time. 40 minutes to get our appetizer. Entree orders were never taken. No apologies for the long wait, nothing offered to us because we sat there for so long with empty drinks. 62 dollars for 4 drinks and an appetizer. Our menus were still on the table because we were never asked what we wanted for mains. Our waitress only came by three times and could tell we were upset by the way she decided to just ignore us after taking our ordered. It's sad, because I really wanted to like this place. If you're busy - tell me. If you're backed up - that's totally fine. Just don't ignore me while I sit with an empty water glass and empty cocktail because I'm still waiting just for attention. We had a reservation and a walk-in got sat before us. They also received all their food and drinks before we even got our appetizer. The table next to us got served their food, ate their food, paid their check, and had their table bussed all before we got our appetizer. Just inexcusable. I was so excited to try their food, just for this incredible disappointment. My recommendation - don't bother trying to come here on a Friday night. I'm not sure about all the hype about this restaurant. I spent big part of my life in Boston and love New England seafood. This place is not even close. Service was borderline ridiculous,we flagged down employees 10 or more times,after 40 minutes waiting time,they brought wrong 1 of three dishes. After back and forth with kitchen they corrected it,but manager never showed up,they didn't comp anything,not even tried to give us desert on the house or something else,whole dinner took 2+ hours. About food by itself, I ordered a baked cod and for 26 dollars I got a dollar bill size over dried fish, lobster roll was wrong, roll should not be soggy,bread should be toasted and buttery,lobster was over cooked and for 27 dollars it should be more lobster. In town for just the night, and was pleasantly surprised at how amazing the food was, from the appetizers to the desert. I love seafood, and I have to say the only thing that would have made the Sea Bass any better was if I had caught the fish myself. It was my friend's birthday and I sort of forced him to have a dinner because I couldn't accept that he didn't want to celebrate. He chose this spot and while the food was amazing, I don't recommend parties of 5+ just because it didn't seem like the staff could handle it. I've worked in restaurants and have had parties of 15+... no trouble splitting the bill. The server was upset that we wanted to try and separate the bill, he gave us about 8 checks with a bunch of random meals so we had to figure everything out and make sure everyone paid, which led to me paying $30 more than I would have because he also brought out two bills late. Another server rolled her eyes and made a rude comment in spanish after it took about 45 seconds for someone to claim their food that she was serving. Just not very great service.... Food is about 4 stars overall. The clam chowder would be the only reason I go back, and even then I recommend just getting it to go. read more

Five stars is just very hard to score, but for food, decor, and service Ford's comes close. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly. Glancing around the room was like taking a trip back in time for both my wife and me; we both lived in New England as young adults. The buoys, traps, and other fishing gear-paraphernalia were reminiscent of many clam shacks, fishing shanties, and hole-in-the-wall food joints we visited over the past 50 years (especially those of our youth.) Menu: You name it, they probably have it...including some "Market Price" (read pricey) New England lobster. $24 dollars for a 6" Lobster roll on the day we visited was too much for our worn wallets. However, there is a plethora of other reasonably priced items on the list. You really need to check the menu on line and then be sure to check the special board as you enter. (This day it was Sheepshead.) Two of our accompanying friends shared a bowl of Lobster Bisque drizzled with Sambuca Cream. (BTW - we checked with the chef who literally rushed to our table to tell us it was made with Shrimp stock, so it was off-limits for me.) But the soup was so, so very good, our friends ordered a second bowl and promptly finished that off! I wanted to test the true authenticity of the place so I ordered the Ipswich Clam Basket with fries. Throwback touchdown! Slightly chewy with a crispy, thin breading, sweet clams fit the bill nicely for me. The shoestring fries were a fine and typical accompaniment but almost unnecessary for this classic dish. The chopped (not shredded) coleslaw was a bit different and had a surprising ingredient added: cinnamon. I could pass on this, not a fave but ok. My wife had very large steamed shrimp and loved every bite. Our fiends had fish and chips - made with tender, succulent absolutely melt-in-your-mouth Cod. They declared that it was the best they have ever eaten! (And at 87 and 89 they've each had a lot of fish and chips.) No room for dessert but we were sorely tempted. According to the menu that provides the backstory to this restaurant, it prides itselfitself for "fresh food and friendly service." Neither was evident on our recent visit. The waiter was at best, indifferent in his approach to us. The mussels we ordered contained at least 10 that were inedible, due to the fact that they either did not open, or were empty. Those that could be eaten did not appear to be of high quality. The featured fish, mahi-mahi, was mediocre at best, having no real taste, despite being in a sauce. The menu indicated that it was served with mixed vegetables. It was, but they amounted to about a tablespoon full of chopped squash, sprinkled across the fish. We will not be returning. I really enjoyed the food here!! We had reservation for 6:30pm. We were surprised to have made their happy hour! Unfortunately, happy hour is only at the bar side. Our Server was Valerie, she was efficient and the other staff were attentive to us whenever she was busy. We started off with Mainer Lobstah Potato Chips and Smoked Salmon Bruschetta. Mainer Lobstah Potatoe Chips - absolutely delicious! The hand cut potatoes went really well with the tomatoes and melted bleu cheese. It was a nice balance, the cheese didn't over power the dish and plenty of complementing flavors. There were small lobster meats in it, can't say I noticed it so much but I would have this appetizer again and again. Smoked Salmon Bruschetta - the salmon was cooked nicely. And by cooked, I mean cooked, the salmon was not smoked... Maybe it was but it's not the "smoked" salmon one would expect. We really like this dish though. The Entrees came out soon after finishing our apps. I ordered the Blackened Scallop Penne - The sauce was creamy and citrus, really complemented the blackened scallops. We got free dessert for linking our first check on their loyalty program app. We had the Blueberry Streusel Pie with Cinnamon Ice Cream, ugh, to die for!!! ... I've been here a couple of times now, and every time, it has been really enjoyable. Service has been consistently good. Very efficient and attentive, although the last time I was there, the waiter was a little unfamiliar with the menu and the type of fishes. Not a big deal as he did offer good advice on the serving sizes and what to order. We always get the fried clams and the Maine chips for an appetizer. The fried clams are delicious. My boyfriend's parents are both from the New England area and love that they do a good fried clams. The Maine chips are SO addictive. I love the garlic aioli type sauce it comes with, the chopped up tomatoes on top give it that refreshing aspect. Yum! We were suggested to take the smaller sizes of both the appetizer (they have a small and large size), and they were perfect for us. Portion sizes here are HUGE and well worth your money. We also got a basket of their muffins with butter, and it's always delicious. Nothing super special, but a great start to a meal. The fish tacos are my favorite. They come with 3 and are actually super filling after eating all the appetizers. I always only get through 2 and kind of just pick at the third one or take it home. They come with skinny fries which are decent. The corn on the cob side looks SO good. It looks buttery and has some light char marks, which makes it look super appetizing. I've been meaning to try the fish and chips, seeing as how it's one of their most well known dishes, but those fish tacos always get me. The dessert look fantastic as well. The last time I was there, we had the seasonal white chocolate bread pudding. I LOVE a good bread pudding. This one was perfectly baked and also had more of the bechamel sauce all around you could dip it in. The scoop of ice cream on top was cold and not melty, which I actually prefer. It just shows they made it super fresh and brought it out right away without it just sitting there for too long. I saw the other desserts (a blueberry pie) and it looked amazing. It didn't seem store bought either. This place does get crowded during weekend dinners. They have call ahead seating which is huge plus. Skip the wait and call ahead. Charming ambiance, great happy hour prices, and stiff drinks. Gave a 4 out of 5 due to having a lot of shell pieces in our oysters and the oyster muscle not being unattached from the shell. I get it, you can't beat $1 oyster and happy hour/dinner time is busy but they should at least be clean. When we ordered their non-happy hour oysters they were clean though! Also, got the Connecticut style lobster roll (personal fav) and surprised to find out they come in 6" or 12"! We got the 6" to share and comes with a plate of fries and grilled corn.
