I got to enjoy dinner here with family on a trip. I was really excited to try some East Coast seafood, and they had suggested Ford's Fish shack. The place was packed for Friday night. Definitely would suggest having reservations so that you can down quickly. My fiancé and I both ordered the lobster - I thought it was going to have a sweeter taste but it was okay. The lobster bisque was very flavorful. The long neck clams I'd suggest skipping as they were very sandy and the broth should've had more acidity to it. One of our cousins ordered 3 old fashions and the drink got progressively better as the night went on. The first round of his drink was very pink. So not served traditionally at all. Overall it was a decent spot for a good family time but wasn't my favorite seafood because the taste fell a bit flat. read more

Followed many many Yelpers' advices and ordered the angry mussels! They were AMAZING! Food: everyone, even kids with chicken tenders, loved their food! The angry mussels was a HIT and oysters were very fresh! We invited another family and they are already asking when we are going back here! Fried shrimps were lightly breaded and well seasoned! Parking: we got there around 7:30 PM and many parking spots were available. COVID-19: staff were wearing a mask and implementing social distancing guide! Service: friendly server and foods were served quite quickly! read more

Solid 3.5 stars Ragz and I stopped by for a super early dinner. The place had a crowd, mostly for take out but a fair number of people going in and out. The we took a quiet table close to the patio entrance. Our server was Elizabeth and she was okay - definitely rushed. In my opinion, the ambience was divey but nothing to write home about, but it's also a ridiculous time ( Covid) and we were focused on eating and leaving. For the food, we started with the rocket shrimp and was delicious. At first I thought it reminded me of the bang bang shrimp at Bonefish grill, but honestly the ginger lime slaw made everything so so much brighter and yummier here! Definitely recommend getting this. I also had the Ceaser salad that was insanely over dressed and had way too much cheese on it - it was tasty, but I couldn't finish it. For the main course, Ragz and I shared the fish and chips. Shoe string fries - deliciousness! The slaw was very crunchy and fresh as well. I really enjoyed the fish - well seasoned and flash fried, but to Ragz' point, it was definitely oily and between both us, we barely finished it. Will I be back? Yes - I definitely want to try other things on the menu like their soup and sandwiches. The place is probably a lot of fun in a non Covid environment. read more

My brother has been here a few times and this is the first time I got to try it. I was looking for something light so I got the salmon salad. I was surprised by the large portion of salmon-- it was a very well cooked (medium) piece. Crispy on the inside and a flaky melt-in-your-mouth center. It was busy on a Friday night but we were lucky to get a booth. Service was good, friendly and efficient. The angry mussels were tasty and came with toasted bread that you can dip. We also shared the blueberry pie with the cinnamon ice cream. I only tried a little bit of the cinnamon ice cream, which was delicious. Would recommend this if you like seafood. The hubby and I were in the mood for some seafood after a rainy day at the winery. We stumbled upon this gem while exploring a new area of town. The Yelp reviews did not lie! This place was amazing! We were seated as soon as we walked in...our waitress was sweet and she gave us stellar service the entire time. The decor and atmosphere was super cute! But the food!!! The pics don't do this place justice. I had the shrimp roll with fries and corn on the cob. The shrimp was well seasoned, the fries were hot and crispy...but the corn was a show stopper. It was smoky, fresh and perfectly seasoned. My husband had the fish tacos. They were flavorful and the fish was tender and flaky. The prices are reasonable and you get pretty good portions. They have indoor and outdoor seating options, great drink options and some excellent seafood! I'm already planning my next visit:) read more

I had the pleasure of dining at Ford's yesterday evening. First, since it was Monday, oysters on the half shell were one dollar each! That's a phenomenal bargain, and they were delicious! I had two dozen! And the crabcake sandwich was honestly one of the best I've ever had! My server, Trinity, was delightful--friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, and prompt! The bar staff was great too! I ordered the surf & turf sandwich for carryout. When I got home, I found out the sandwich didn't have the horseradish sauce as required. When I called Ford's Fish to tell them about it, they said I can pick up the horseradish sauce as a side. I replied that I'm already home and its a 15 minute drive to get that. There was a pause and I said I'm not able to pick it up. He said ok and hung up. I didn't like that. I would have given this rating 1 star, but gave 2 stars since the food was ok. I had the coleslaw and it was bland. Sandwich was ok. Thin fries were soggy but edible. read more

Started out good but service tanked. Table near us was sodemanding so I can't totally blame our waitress but waiting 20 mins for a refill and when she finally came back, too late I was finished with my dinner, asked if I wanted one to go. Food was average. Oysters good and tender, but shrimp dry and rubbery. Got dessert to go so jury out on that. read more

We made a reservation through Resy for an early dinner at 2:30pm on 7/29/23. We chose this location since our normal location in South Riding had closed down on 7/25/23. First off, I did not make any specifications in my reservation, however, the restaurant was not busy at all when we arrived. When we went up to the hostess, I told her we had a 2:30pm reservation for Linda so she grabbed two menus and then tried to seat us at the very first table next to the hostess stand. When I politely asked her if we could get a booth instead, she rolled her eyes, grabbed the menus from the table and then proceeded to the back of the restaurant where there was an empty booth and just hastily set down the menus, huffed, and just walked away without saying a word. My friend told me that her behavior was enough for us to get up and walk right out of the restaurant due to her EXTREMELY RUDE behavior, but thankfully, "K," our awesome server, came and saved our day!! He was so inviting and kind. He went over all of the specials and asked us what we would like to drink. We informed him what we wanted and he took very wonderful care of us throughout our entire meal! He also informed us that the South Riding location will soon be opening up in Tall Cedars so we were thrilled to hear that news! Also, "K" and a few others that were temporarily relocated to the Ashburn location will all be working at the new Tall Cedars location. Let's just hope one of them isn't the RUDE hostess!!! We got the side of seared sea scallops with remoulade sauce and two pounds of steamed crab legs that came with grilled corn on the cob, coleslaw, and melted butter. Ohhhhh my!!! We were in our 'happy place' and devoured everything!!!! Of course, I also enjoyed a cold brewski as well. I mean, c'mon, it's seafood so why not? It's part of the ambiance! If you're cracking crab legs for your own meat, it calls for it! The manager also came by a couple of times to check on us which was very nice! We will definitely be back!! read more

Learn something new everyday! I usually get the fried lobster tail but decided to try something different. We opted for the raw oysters on a half shell topped with all the fixings!! A squeeze of lemon, a dash of cocktail sauce topped with horseradish and crumbled saltine crackers. Excuse me while I lose my manners. I ordered the soft shell crab dinner whi ch was nothing short of awful. the crabs were definietly previously frozen, missing crab claws and some legs, very small and over fried. had not choice of preparation, only fry and not saute. The meal was expensive with a 1/4 cup of cole slaw and cold french fries. Not worth the $35.00 price. Very dissappointing ---- will not go back. This is cheap fast food in seafood and nothing more. Quality is below zero. Manager aware and did nothing. read more

We ordered 4 Connecticut Lobster rolls to go. Ready in 20 minutes; with easy car side delivery. Buttered crab was good, mostly claw. French fries were good even cold. Corn was just okay. This place is a great place for family night out or even friends. The interior has a seafood place vibe to it which is good cuz it is a seafood place. The booth seatings are great because they are spacious and not like other places where it gets tight for me. All the food came out pretty fast. We got the crab cake sandwich and lobster tails. They were sooo good. The grilled corn on cob was really good too. Absolutely love the corn muffins. Steamed shrimp was seasoned perfectly. Our server did a great job with us. He had our drinks coming before we even asked for refills and he checked on us often. The place was nice and clean as well. All the items we ordered tasted so good. This is one of my favorite seafood restaurants in the metro area. Being for New England where quality seafood is as much a given as oxygen, Fords comes as close as any in the greater metro area to reproducing that quality. Awesome fish and chips using fresh,not previously frozen haddock or cod, and whole belly fried clams both standout on their menu. Master those two New England staples and you know the test of the menu will be outstanding. read more

Meet the Business Owner: Tony S.

Tony and Ana Stafford brought their dream of opening "an American farmhouse bistro" to Virginia in 2010 after zoning laws prohibited them from opening in Cambridge, MA. They returned to Northern Virginia, where, Tony says, "we know people and have a following." A former Managing Partner at Bonefish Grill in Centreville and, before that, the executive chef at Artie's in Fairfax, Tony knew the area, its people, and great food. The Staffords opened their first Ford's Fish Shack location in Ashburn in 2010, and now operate locations in South Riding and Lansdowne, in addition to a bustling catering business, Ford's Wicked Catering.

I got the "Goliath" crab cake platter, which came with hush puppies and a side, and I paid the extra $2.50 for the seafood salad. The hush puppies were cooked perfectly and were pretty tasty, a little sweet like I prefer them, and also pretty filling. I was a bit disappointed in the seafood salad since the dressing that is used overpowers the taste of the imitation crab, which is what I wanted to taste. I love the sweetness of the crab, but didn't taste it at all. Overall, I was happy with my food but I can't say I will eat here very often as my meal was $42 without including the tip, and for one person and a meal that barely filled a to go box it's a bit much. However, if I crave a crab cake sandwich, I will stop in again and try that.

After reading several reviews from people who claim to be from New England and indicated this place was not authentic, I had to post. I've never posted here (or on any other online review boards) before but I think this place warrants a review. I'm from New England and spent most of my childhood summers on the Maine and NH shores and I can say that the food is definitely authentic. There are, of course, some dishes that are not "native" to the region; however, that is to be expected in order to meet the needs/tastes of the local customers and to leverage seafood local to this area (e.g., crab). My wife and I have gone here several times and we have had a fantastic experience every time we've gone (6 times now). Four of the times we've been there we've been greeted by the owner/chef. This is very unusual for restaurants in this area. We asked if he was planning to expand to another location and he indicated that he wanted to keep the business personal to ensure the quality of the food. This says a lot of about his commitment and dedication to the business and his customers. We've tried multiple items on the menu (including specials offered on a nightly basis) and we've enjoyed everything we've ordered. The fried lobster, lobster roll, fish tacos, Maine chips and smoked salmon appetizer are our favorites. We eat out in restaurants in Ashburn, Leesburg and Reston at least 3 nights/week. We used to frequent Bone Fish, Clyde's, LIghtfoot and M&S regularly for seafood; however, after finding the Ford's Fish Shack, it's hard for us to make a case to go to these places when we want good seafood. I would highly recommend trying this place. Most of the reviews are very positive and I think that is a testament to the quality of the food and the owner/chef. How can you go wrong when some of the negative comments include too much lobster in the lobster roll and too many of the amazing corn muffins being provided in the bread basket? Enjoy! read more

I have frequented Ford's with friends, family, and co-workers more times than I can count over the last few years. I have dined there for my anniversary, my daughter's birthday, and numerous other everyday occasions. The food is generally delicious, and I love the specials that are offered. My most recent visit, however, did not leave me with a pleasant taste. I had called five days in advance to make a reservation, as we planned to bring a friend with us who had never dined before. We arrived early and were seated on time. However, we were immediately led to the patio area. When I asked if we could please be seated inside instead - it was not freezing cold on the patio but not a particularly comfortable temperature either - the young hostess told me she was sorry but those tables had been reserved. When I had called to make my reservation, I was never asked if I wanted a table inside or on the patio area. I stated this to the hostess, and she repeated that she was sorry. At this point, I was feeling embarrassed at our less-than-stellar seating with our special guest. I asked the hostess to please let the manager know that I didn't find this particularly acceptable, and she said that she would. That was the last I heard of it. The manager came over and offered to turn the heaters on to warm us up, but they turned out to be so hot that we became even more uncomfortable than we already were with the hard patio chairs and cool outside temps. I hate to say it, but this experience very well may keep us from dining there again in the near future, for as much as I like the food, after years in retail, I also value good customer service, and this was anything but. read more

Been there several times in the last couple of month and have yet been majority disappointed with their food and service. FYI....Their happy hour is from 4-7pm, it is Bar area ONLY, be glad if you can grab a seat between 5:30pm-7:00pm. They are always full for the most of the time. Oyster, Angry Mussels, Jumbo Shrimp and Rhode Island calamari are my all time favorites. If you go there on happy hour, the oyster and jumbo shrimp are just $1.00 a piece. Since 4 out 5 times I have been there, today it's the only time I had a jumbo shrimp that were over steamed. Overall I gave their food a 4.5 stars and I'll be back. Not your Legal Seafood environment, this is more of bay area decorated. However, even during high peak hour, the dinning area and restroom are kept cleaned throughout my entire stay. 5 stars. Service, servers are attentive and knowledgable with their menu. I found services are quiet of slow in the dinning room, I' am not sure if the server are buying time for the kitchen so they can catch up their order or they have too many tables to serve at once however, the server does take the time to explain menu. 4 stars. Execution, if you are getting oyster it keeps to deliver to your table rather quickly but when it comes to other hot entree it gets longer to 20 minutes or more and on top of slower service. 2.5 star Overall, great Seafood restaurant in Ashburn to go to if you are craving for great Bay Area favors. read more

Fords Fish Shack. Ahhhhhhhh. I had the dreamiest night of my life. I walked into this resturant and laid my eyes on the most beautiful creature I have ever seen. This brunette goddess with rich, flowing chesnut hair and PEIRCING blue eyes stole my breath from the second she opened the door for me. She was all I could think about all night, all day, the next day, all week. It was crazy. The food was pretty good too. But as I previously stated, my attention wasn't really fully focused on the meal. I couldn't even remember which utensil to use. My waitress brought out these little corn muffins, and I literally died. Throughout the entire night, I asked for extra muffins. They are amazing. As an entree, I ordered the Fried Fish Sandwhich though. It was good. It was very flavorful and moist. I would definetly get it again. The service was fantastic, my waitress was very attentive. Top 3 or 5 restaurant in Ashburn. By far the number one seafood restaurant in the area. I enjoy the firecracker shrimp for an appetizer , or the fresh peel and eat shrimp (esp when sourced from North Carolina). They also serve corn bread rolls with whipped butter that could hold you over. The cod stuffed with crab meat is a good entree. The lobster roll Connecticut style (warm butter) or the 2/3 lobster tails is the best way to eat lobster in this area. Served with shoe string fries and grilled corn. I recommend trying one of your tails deep fried. Again a unique twist. Something about dipping a deep fried chunk of lobster meat in melted butter makes my mouth water. Pro - great service. First class. Everything they do, they do it well. Con- always a wait on weekends. Place is packed. I have not sat at the bar or in the bar area. I have grabbed a drink while waiting. I had heard such great things about Fords Fish Shack in Ashburn. I was excited about it. Met a couple for dinner and drinks. I ordered half rack and tail... Ribs and lobster tail. My ribs were ok, but my lobster tasted funny. i had the people at my table taste it. They agreed. It tasted old and stale, as if it had been frozen and thawed too quickly and cooked. The manager knew a person at our table and came over. He asked about our entrees and I was honest. He quickly changed the subject and began talking to my friend at the table about his family. I didn't want to tarnish the evening so I dismissed it. That was 2 years ago. I never went back, and I doubt I ever will. I gave it 2 stars instead of zero because the server was friendly. Back again - been at least a year since my prior review. Here on business again and my partner for the week and I both wanted to visit this location again as we had both been there before and liked it very much then and just as much this go around, food is great and the service even in the bar area is fast and attentive. Angry mussels... damn those are good. Splurged a little and went for the lobster tails one deep fried and one grilled. Never had deep fried lobster before so I thought I'd give it a try - interesting, not bad just different and the breading combined with the lobster was good enough that I shared it with my partner as a "you've gotta try this" - don't think I'd order it again as the broiled tail was soooo much better. The oyster roll at Ford's Fish Shack is a standout! STUFFED with crispy oysters, fresh lettuce, and a tangy remoulade sauce, this roll is a delight and a must-try! The buttered buns add an extra layer of richness, making each bite a perfect blend of flavors and textures. The fish & chips featured cod served with thin fries and coleslaw. While the cod itself was a bit bland, pairing it with the tartar sauce brought out a much-needed flavor boost. The rocket shrimp, a mix of crispy shrimp, sweet chili sauce, green beans, and Asian slaw, was a bit underwhelming. I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ford's Fish Shack, and I must say, the food was fantastic. Every dish we ordered was fresh and bursting with flavor, and the portions were incredibly generous. We started with the 6 oysters, smoked salmon bruschetta, and angry mussels. Each appetizer was amazing, with the smoked salmon bruschetta featuring a huge, delicious salmon filet. For our main courses, we ordered the footlong Connecticut lobster roll, the Maine seafood basket (pick 4), and the fried Fishwich. Every item was delicious and tasted exceptionally fresh. I highly recommend Ford's Fish Shack to anyone looking for a great meal. However, I suggest making a reservation, as this place is popular and fills up quickly. read more

I'm a Father of one of the female employees and I'm being told that several of the female staff complain amongst themselves that the managers are very touchy Feely when the managers come to them to talk about something. Is it Necessary for a manager to touch my daughter or any other female on there shoulder or rub there back just to speak with them. The answer is NO! I hope that the Managers seeing this will address all other managers to keep there hands to themselves when addressing and employee specially if it makes them uncomfortable! Yum yum and yuuuuuum!! If I lived closer, I would be here every weekend (don't tell my husband) although he would probably be right there with me because it was just that good! If you aren't sold yet- just go through the reviews and look at the pictures people posted. That will turn you into a fan. Now imagine what those pictures taste like! I've been to Ford's Fish Shack a few time and always order the fish and chips. The fish is very crispy and flavorful, with the two dipping sauces and a side of fries. Always enjoyable. Also tried the fish tacos which are decent, but prefer the fish and chips over them. Will come back and try other dishes. Great service, attentive, haven't tried the bar experience as of yet. Ford's is an outstanding place. Have visited them several times. Being from New England my favorite entree is the Ipswich Clam Dinner. Finding New England Whole Bewllied Clams in Virginia is hard. They were delicous. The Fried Scallops are also excelent. The mixed plate Clams and Scolops is toi die for. The corn bread muffins are wonderful. My grandfather owned a seafood restaurant/market on Cape Cod back when I was just a little kid. Every year when we went to see him I enjoyed some of the best seafood around. Moving around over the years I have had really bad to ok seafood. Never have I had seafood the caliber of what I had growing up.....until. Ford's Fish Shack is the best seafood I have had in YEARS. Ford's Fish Shack is simply the BEST seafood restaurant in Ashburn, hands down. This place is always packed, so expect long wait or make reservations ahead of times. We have been here numerous times and tried almost everything on their menu. Complimentary corn muffin - yummy. Their lobster rolls and chowdah are delicious. We love their angry mussles. Excellent seafood place. Their menu has a variety of other options as well and their daily specials are amazing. Be sure to try their fish tacos and salmon salad. We go there at least twice a month and it never fails us. This is a great option if you don't feel like driving too much away from Ashburn, and before i forget, their bread basket is just plain addictive. read more
