This hole in the wall Chinese restaurant was one of few open on New Years Day in the area. It's very small inside, with just two tables and the cash register dividing the front from the kitchen. The cook/cashier was very nice and brought our food to our table when it was ready. The food is also incredibly inexpensive, especially for NYC. I had the sesame chicken, which came with some broccoli and white rice, as well as the spring rolls. Overall the food was pretty average Chinese food, but did the trick on a cold day. read more

This is a nice small hole in the wall kind of place. It's a small family run business with maybe enough seating for 10 people but realistically you'll probably never see more than 6 people sitting at a time cuz it'll be too cramped otherwise. The food here is really cheap. You could get chicken and broccoli for $4.50 which is enough to fill you. I will say that the entrees are somewhat unremarkable and the noodles are subpar (go to Lam Zhou instead for better noodles). However, what makes this place great are the dumplings! The boiled dumplings are always fat, fresh, and juicy and a good value. They do not skimp on the filling which makes them amazing. I wouldn't recommend the fried dumplings unless they make them fresh (they usually make them in advance so by the time you get them they're kinda cold). I live less than a block away so I'll be coming a lot so we'll see how long it'll take for me to get sick of it (it'll probably be a while tho). read more

Let me start off by saying this is a cheap place so don't expect all the bells and whistles. Most items are 1-2 dollars. This is another one of those $1 fried dumplings joints sprinkled throughout Chinatown, this one located at the very very edge of it. As most places have raised the dumpling prices to $1 for 4 dumplings tgese days, this is one of the few that still sells it at $1 for 5 as of this writing. As this is a slower moving area business wise as compared to such popular dumpling places as Vanessa's Dumpling House or Prosperity Dumpling, don't be surprised to find that the dumplings here is not fresh off the pot like those said places. Instead it sits within a metal container on a steam table keeping it hot. The dumplings are good but a bit on the dryer side (probably from sitting in the container) and the dumpling skin is of the thicker variety that I do not prefer, although that is a personal preference. As with most dumpling places, they have Hot and Sour Soup. Not sure how this became the normal soup to sell along with fried dumplings but they carry it here also. Less hot and more sour, the soup could have been more flavorful and intense. Their fried chicken wings are crispy and slightly over battered. These are the kind that benefits from the condiments around them, my preference being hot sauce that is found by the tables. Despite them being one of the cheapest places for fried dumplings these days, I would not hesitate to pay a bit more for the dumplings at the other places instead. But if you are in the neighborhood and don't want to go too far to get your fried dumplings fix, this place would certainly do. read more

Those of you who have been wondering what ever happened to the noodle/fried chicken food cart on Catherine Street (Shing's Food Corp - http://www.yelp.com/biz/shings-food-shop-new-york) -- well, they have moved here and set themselves up in this little spot. Despite its hole-in-the-wall size on a dodgy street, it's a well-kept and clean little shop and run by the same friendly people who ran the food cart for decades. I'm glad they were able to finally set up a store, and hope they continue to be successful. They also expanded their menu to include dumplings, soups, rice noodle rolls (cheong fun), soup noodles, soy milk, and some other common Chinese snack shop items. read more

Good for a nighttime snack because they stayed opened until at least midnight and sometimes passed midnight. The food is okay not the best but it's okay if you order from the wall to your left it's most likely fresh. Other items are not fresh especially the fries stuff. They just refry it for you to hear it up. Wait time is kind of long even if you're the ONLY person there so you might wanna grab their number for next time and all in. It's a mom and pop shop literally. If you're hungry at night and want something healthy come here. There's better food in the day time than this place but this is my go-to for grumblies at night. I like their A2-4 on the wall to the left. I like chewy noodles. Their wontons and dumplings are more bland if you prefer less saltiness. All the food on the wall is meant to be eaten quickly or else it will become cold and soggy which isn't good for reheating because everything will fall apart if you reheat it. Most people who come in get typical Chinese-American stuff...egg rolls, fried rice. I have no idea how good that stuff is. I always get the spicy beef noodle soup, which is AMAZING. Nice, thick noodles in a delicious broth, with a few pieces of bok choy to make you feel like you ate something vaguely healthy, and a decent quantity of tender braised beef. For just $5.75!! Omg I love this spot!! I come here for dinner sometimes when I'm too lazy to make my own food and I'm looking for authentic Chinese food that tastes like mom made it on a low-key night. Cheap, tasty, and healthy food. I recommend the "Pai gu mian", or Spare Ribs Noodle Soup. It's boned pork cutlets, bok choy, mushrooms, and freshly pulled noodles in an aromatic soup. Customer beware: They speak limited English, just enough to get your order, but not enough to hold a conversation. The only real knock on this place is a lack of cleanliness, which is fairly common for Chinatown, unfortunately. read more

This place deserves 0 stars. They are rude. I ordered Mei Fun noodles, and the woman behind the counter was insisting that I accept the old, dry noodles that were on display. Another guy from behind the counter said that he was making a fresh batch that would be ready in five minutes. I agreed to wait for the fresh serving. Meanwhile, the woman began speaking in her native language, and the guy said for me to take the old noodles, because it was good. I declined and said"that's ok", I would rather wait. They both shooed me out of their restaurant. I did not want to use the word "racist", but that's how they treated me. I now realize that the "N" word sounds the same in many languages. I like these guys & gals. They serve no-frills Chinese street food with a gritty, modest charm to it. The menu is constantly expanding, with a hodgepodge of ideas from other Chinese spots (likes of Xian Famous Foods, or Taiwanese style pork over rice), but everything taste good enough here to warrant the cheap price. Their chicken is seasoned and cooked in a way that is akin to crack to me...the nice young lady laughed and brushed me aside in Chinese when I tried to ask how she did it. Super cheap, we ordered two noodles (Cunmin beef and regular beef), two orders of different dumplings and a large soy milk for 25 bucks.
