Amazing food for insanely cheap! My brother and I came here today for lunch, looking for a quick bite without spending too much money. We ordered upon entering, and for just $14.50, we snagged up 2 orders of dumplings (10 per order), peanut noodles, and two bottles of water. A full lunch for less than a single entree in a restaurant! I ordered the pan-fried veggie dumplings, while my brother ordered the classic pork and chive dumplings. They were both made fresh, and I was surprised by the variety of vegetables present in the dumplings I ordered. They were perfectly seasoned as well, and you can tell how fresh they are. I love how you can stand there and watch them make the dumplings in real time. The peanut noodles were equally delicious! This place is perfect for a quick, filling meal on a budget, and I love how no-frills it is. There are barstools in there, as well as a single, long table with several seats. There's also small sauce containers available, where you can fill them up with the complimentary dumpling sauce, sriracha, or rice wine vinegar. I was there on a weekday afternoon and while I was there the place filled up, it seems like they have a lot of regulars which is always a good sign. the prices are fantastic, and it looks like they also sell bags of frozen dumplings alongside the fresh food. I went boiled this time instead of pan-fried in the name of health, but found it's worth it to treat yourself to the fried dumplings. Veggie noodle soup (fried egg included) was a nice complement to the shrimp dumplings, very simple and not super flavorful but good together. For the quantity to price ratio, King Dumplings is one of the better places in a very competitive dumpling landscape within the area. This is a no-frills type of place, so don't expect table service or any fancy signage. Their dumplings are decent and have satisfied my cravings over the years. All in all, I was fond of this place. However, all it took was one bad experience and everything changed. I stopped by earlier today with my kids because they wanted some dumplings for dinner. We walk in, order and give the 'boss' man $4.50. As he's about to prep our order, he sneezes three times over a batch of cooked dumplings with zero effort to turn away or cover his mouth. Even my kids noticed this and said 'he sneezed on the dumplings.' After seeing this, rather than start a back and forth with 'Boss' man over what happened, we took the dumplings and tossed them out in the trash can right outside of the store. I accepted the $4.50 loss out of precaution and as a lesson that I'm not coming back again. YMMV but I saw what I needed to see to take my business elsewhere. read more

I absolutely love all dollar dumpling spots in Chinatown and this is one more to add to this list. I went on a Thursday night and it was crowded in this small corner store and for a good reason. We were still able to get one of 10 seats in the main table and enjoyed some dollar fried pork and chive dumplings (think it was 8-10 for $4 which is amazing). Dumplings came out within 2 minutes and they have the classic soy sauce and siracha on the table. Together it was truly wonderful. Love all dollar dumpling stores NYC has to offer. I would say some of the other places I have visited may be a bit higher on the list of best dumpling spots but this one also doesn't miss. I also got the seseme pancake with duck. It was also $4 but I would note that it was some what disappointing. It was filling and did taste relatively solid, but I think there could have been more filling. There are also better places to get similar foods, but at that price I simply can't complain. I love all dollar dumpling spots and this place matches that vibe. It's quite efficient as food comes out within minutes. There might be a bit of a language barrier when ordering food, and to note it is also cash only. I went strolling through Chinatown one evening looking for dumplings. The first couple of places I tried were far too packed, but Kings had an open seat to eat at. In retrospect, I'm glad all the other spots were too full, because Kings is delicious! Their dumplings are super affordable and super tasty. More so than even the dumplings though, I gotta recommend the Peking Duck stuffed scallion pancake!! To be honest it didn't taste like scallion pancake at all, the texture was more like a nice toasty focaccia - but to me that's a pro not a con. I really loved it! My only minor complaint would be that it was low on meat, but given the low price it's completely understandable. The inside is pretty small and can seat about 10 people total probably, so I wouldn't recommend going with a big group. It's a very classic small Chinatown shop vibe though with just a simple order counter. It's cash only, so come prepared! Overall, great dumpling spot! I hadn't been to Chinatown in a long time and had a dumpling craving so decided to hit up King Dumpling. Definitely seemed like one of the best cheap spots from the reviews. It was such a breath of fresh air to look at all the truly cheap options available on their menu. I ordered the 10 dumplings for $4 and also got a fish ball soup ($3). Total came to $7 (I think this place only accepts cash). I actually ordered a fish ball noodle soup ($5), and think the guy misunderstood me, but for $3, all misunderstandings will be forgiven! Oh man, the dumplings were just as good as advertised. The last time I got fried dumplings from a stall in Flushing, it wasn't too great. But damn these dumplings were really good. It seemed like it came fresh off being fried, so the dumplings had a nice, hot, fried texture. They were also very juicy and meaty. The fish ball soup wasn't amazing, but it was pretty solid. The soup had 5 solid fish balls in it and the broth was very satisfying, if only slightly on the more oily / fatty side. But it paired nicely with the dumplings. All in all, I loved how amazing and cheap the food was here. King Dumpling has to be one of the best, if not the best cheap eats place in NYC.
