*this review is only for you tiao* Not warm & no dou jiang (soybean milk). But this you tiao, even in its cold (worst) form, is crunchy, oily, and fragrant, a tale tell sign of its potential when you inevitably decide to take it home to heat over a pan.

Tried this old-school lunch spot recently for a cheap $7 lunch. Very narrow entryway with a large variety of dishes (but not as many as the other place on the corner of Division farther down the street). You get to choose 4 dishes along with rice, so I chose curry chicken, bamboo shoots, fried fish, and string beans. Lots of rice and definitely plenty of food. It also came with a seaweed soup that tasted okay. Everything tasted fine but not particularly flavorful or craveable. Even the curry chicken didn't have too much flavor to it, unfortunately. It'll fill you up if that's what you're going for, but I think I'll try the spot down the street next time!

I was just hungry and needed some breakfast. These two places were opened at 8:00AM. I did not know which one to go to so I stared into both store windows. The lady in Yi Mei started tapping her window at me when I turned to visited Golden Bowl. I turned back and the lady in Golden Bowl started tapping her window. Again I turn and stood in between the two store. What is a guy to do when both ladies give me that motherly look of "Come here young man! " ??? I decided to go with Golden Bowl because they had these fried donut-like items in their window. Donut-like item (three for $1)- They look like greasy donuts but what they are turnip-cake paste deep fried in the shape of a donut. Warm and tasty & goes good with a bowl of congee. They are probably really bad for me. Rate it 4/5. http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/zBW83MXi_r2YQmTkwwbwFQ?select=V61vYk2X0WJL2gNdJ_JcGg French toast-like item ( two for $1)- They look like french toast but they are rice cake wedges deep fried. They are greasy and addicting! Rate it 3/5. http://www.yelp.ca/biz_photos/zBW83MXi_r2YQmTkwwbwFQ?select=RmDHw7njdYEoPwZgbypHfA Sweet Potato Congee ($1 a pint)- 1st time I ever had sweet potato (Yam) in my congee. Rate 3/5 I left Golden Bowl afraid to looking over at my Yi Mei-Mom due to guilt. I promise myself to visit her soon.

This is one of numerous "budget" eateries in Chinatown, one that gives you your choice of 4 Foods served buffet-style with white rice. The food is definitely edible, but any savings to your budget comes at the price of eating tepid to cold food that is supposed to be hot.

#I love how this place and the place next door (Yi Mei) yells at you to come in when you go up to the window to look at the food.

Service is very fast and they kept the water flowing (spicy dishes really are spicy!), and the portions are huge. Though you have to pay extra for white rice ($3 a bowl), the overall value was reasonable for the main dishes. The restaurant is dark and elegant inside, with a large tv over the bar that was showing sports when we were there. It had a nice ambience.

The grilled pork spare ribs was good, but it was too little meat for the price. The scallion pancake was bland. The Peking duck was ok. The pork xiao long bao was bad. The skin broke easily with the included forceps and with chopsticks. It was hard even transferring it to my plate. The mapo tofu was bland. The la zi ji (spicy crispy chicken) was too spicy to eat. I have good spice tolerance, and I always eat la zi ji, but it was just too spicy. This was the only meat dish that was barely touched at the end of the dinner. The best dish was the cumin lamb. It was seasoned well and the lamb was tender. I wish they gave us more lamb though. The meat pieces were small. I've had much better Chinese food in dallas. I would not recommend this Chinese restaurant to anyone.
