Despite what people may say DO NOT PASS THIS PLACE UP! My boyfriend and I are here 2-3 times a week for either drinks at the bar, their amazing happy hour, and for dinner. John is the best bartender and takes care of the bar area so well. The French dip is my favorite and the house bread is an amazing appetizer. my boyfriend is currently working his way through the entire menu and has yet to be disappointed. My boyfriend and I dined at fork and barrel just about a week ago. The interior had a nice rustic farmhouse look to it with a variety of touches such as barrels on display. For an appetizer, we chose the Florida Sweet Corn Bread. It was moist and the honey butter was mouthwatering. The Southern Blackened Redfish was my choice for an entrée. The fish was cooked to perfection and the sides paired well. My boyfriend selected the Salmon Oscar and enjoyed it as well. In addition, the service was good as expected. Both the meal and appetizer came out fast. Our waiter, Reynaldo, was kind. Overall, we rate the experience a 9/10. Just shy from being a perfect 10/10. Can't wait to come back soon! read more

The restaurant was not busy on a Saturday afternoon except for a few bar customers. The restaurant is clean and tidy. Our server was friendly and helpful. Their menu offers a great selection of sandwiches, salads, and main courses- steak and seafood selections. Their food is well priced. For starters I ordered the Lobster Bisque, and it was tasty. The bisque was too thick, and the cream gave it an appearance of slight separation indicating they added it while the soup was too hot and very thick; not much lobster to speak of, good tasting soup overall. My husband ordered the cornbread which comes with butter- it was nice, 3 mini loaves of well baked, with a crispy crust and a layer of sugar cornbread goodness. I like cornbread to be a bit sweeter but I was delighted with this version. My husband tried the French Dip au Jus with truffle fries. He gave it a thumbs up; really loved it. I stole a few fries and they were amazing! We both loved the flavor, the crispiness and doneness were on point. The Caesar salad ingredients tasted freshly cut and prepared. The croutons were not homemade but were fresh. It had both grated and shavings of parmesan cheese and the grilled chicken was perfectly cooked. The Caesar dressing was not my fave. It was sort of an emulsified Parmesan vinaigrette- on the very acidic- not enough traditional flavor side, which really surprised me because I expected a great version, but not this time, in my opinion the dressing was a no for me. They offer a bar area, booths, self standing tables and additional seating, maybe suitable for private events. Their decoration is Americana rustic farmhouse concept. Ok, third time since its re opening as fork and barrel. I was with a large group. They had gotten the back room. The music was too loud and we couldn't hear the speaker. Although they had said before they could turn down the music, apparently there is only one music volume for the whole restaurant and so they denied our request to turn it down. The food was ok but nothing to write home about. I got the redfish sandwich. She asked if fries are ok and when I asked to swap it for a salad she said yes but never told me there is a $4 upcharge. I feel sad posting this as it's our local neighborhood restaurant but we're very disappointed. We have been coming to this location since it was GPH. Tonight will be our last visit. We've given it the benefit of the doubt, but the quality of food for value just no longer exists. Our cocktails tasted very weak, almost watered down. Ordered a chicken sandwich - the meat itself was tiny. Husband had the Salmon BLT - the fish was terribly overcooked (may have sat under a food lamp for awhile) yet the bowl of mashed potatoes was cold. The truffle fries were good, but not as a focal point of a meal. Our kids fish and chips was probably the best food and it was quite bland. She mostly ate ketchup. Tonight we spent $100 with tip but agreed that was NOT a $100 meal. read more

The service was quick and we were frequently checked on. I had the short rib and it was delicious. My wife had a Caesar salad with shrimp and that was also very good. Lava cake was very good. Had dinner with 2 friends at the newly branded Fork & Barrel (previously General Public House) in Winter Springs last night. The one. and pretty much only thing I liked at the previous General Public House was the Fried Green Tomatoes. I was happy to see that they were on the Fork & Barrel menu. We arrived before Happy Hour (HH) was over and ordered a couple of small plates (apps), Fried Green Tomatoes and Spinach Artichoke Dip) that were $3.00 off (I think it was) for each. We also ordered a couple of red wines (also discounted for HH) which were of decent quality. While the tomatoes were good, they were a bit too firm, but they were cooked very well with the still appreciated dollop of Pimento cheese (even though I wish there had been a little bit more). The Spinach Artichoke dip was good - basic - and it came with about 7-8 small pieces of toasted bread which was nice and hearty. We finally added a small plate of Chicken Tenders (also HH discounted) and French Onion Soup. Tenders came out and were good sized and I heard very good. I had the French Onion Soup which was 'ok'. Nothing to write home about and the cheese was contained and almost melted; the soup itself wasn't very hot. For me, French Onion soup has to be hearty with lots of cheese melted over with some sticking to the sides, but this wasn't THAT type. One out of our party ordered dessert, the Best Banana Pudding ($2 off for HH). While dessert is generallys good, she noted it tased like boxed banana pudding. Service was very pleasant and efficient. When we received our bills, each paying our own while splitting the first 2 apps between the 3, all was broken out well, but the wines were charged incorrectly between 2 of us - mine were quite a bit higher and were on someone else's bill while hers were the HH wines, much cheaper, which were on my bill. No biggie - we swapped bills since everything else was fairly even. Overall this was an 'okay' experience, but nothing really blew me away. Menu has some quite a few choices on entrees, etc., but it still feels to me like General Public House which wasn't one of my faves. Would I return and try more? If asked, sure. read more

I was sorry to see General Public House close, but so very happy that it has reopened as Fork & Barrel! Have been there 3 times since it has opened, and had a great experience each time. Not sure which entree I love more... the steak frites or the redfish. Both are superb. My friend had the grouper and it was excellent! Also love the shrimp and grits! The appetizers are delicious (grilled deviled eggs, fried green tomatoes and the spinach and artichoke dip are my favorites). The service is as good as always with very attentive servers! The lettuce was very fresh and crisp but it was slathered in a little too much blue cheese dressing but that's okay. My favorite draft beer, Space Dust is gone and isn't available in bottles or cans either. My wife's favorite Salmon BLT is no longer available either and so she opted for the turkey/brie sandwich. French fries were cold. Her vodka martini was served in a rocks glass instead of a proper martini glass and I had to go to the bar myself to get the olives . What used to be our favorite may have to be removed from our list unless things improve. They have some things to work on. read more

Oh man. We went there on a Friday evening. The place was not busy when we arrived. We attempted to order cokes for the children, but the soda machine was out. We attempted to order the deviled eggs, but they were out too. We attempted to order a couple fo draft beers but their on tap beer was also unavailable. We pivot and order a prosecco and old-fashion. The pours were small but that's ok we arent at a college tailgate. Our server Madison wasn't the most attentive but again not biggie. We waited just under an hour for our food. We ordered chicken wings, chicken tenders, red fish and fish and chips. Why would that take almost an hour to prepare? Tables that were set well after us received their food. Our server offered no reason. We had to ask for silverware while our much anticipated food set cooling on the table. I additionally waited an extra 5 mins to receive my order while my starving family ate their food. Our server then came and without asking grabbed both of our cocktails, that we were still nursing, to remove them. My husband tipped 10% but I personally I would have went lower. My wife and I loved General Public House and really was hoping the Fork and Barrel rebrand would be just as tasty. Starting with apps and cocktails, the Fried Green Tomatoes are still here, but instead of a full teaspoon of Pimento Cheese it's down to a half teaspoon smeared on the bottom. If the green goddess aioli was included on there it wasn't very memorable. Still really good tomato flavor and the panko crust was well seasoned and fried to a perfect crispness. My Blue Mule was tasty but I didn't detect any hint of blueberry infusion other than eating the blueberry garnish. My wife ordered the White Peach Bellini which had great flavor but the temp was barely cool and quickly went lukewarm. My main was the Braised Beef Short Rib and I tried to sub an equivalently priced spinach for the red bliss garlic mashed potatoes since I am not a fan. The request was denied without any explanation and I was told there are simply no substitutions, period. I actually enjoyed the dish other than the potatoes and wished there was slightly more demi glace to accent the beef. Overall the dish was average and I do prefer the Carrabba's fall version. I ordered a separate side of spinach with the dish and enjoyed it thoroughly. I loved the punchy garlic flavor with a hint of lemon. My wife ordered the Steak Frites which were tasty and she commented the truffle fries were perfectly seasoned and the steak was very flavorful. She requested the jalapeno cilantro chimichurri sauce on the side as she is not into spicy and wanted to taste it just in case. She wasn't a fan but I thought it was excellent and had just the right amount of spice. If we went again I would potentially get the Frites with that sauce but unfortunately I wouldn't be a fan of the truffle fries and knowing I couldn't substitute is a deal breaker. We ended the meal with Sticky Toffee Pudding which had a deep caramel toffee flavor and was just the right amount to share between two people. Our waitress was extremely nice and kept our drinks filled. This is a star by itself as we do appreciate service with a smile. I do miss some of the old characters from GPH though and was hoping to see them. I don't know if any of the old staff was kept for the rebrand. Overall it was an average experience that we didn't feel justified the cost. With some menu tweaks and policy changes I'm sure they could easily become a hot spot in that area and I wish them the best. read more

Changes to formally known as General Public House are not for the better. Menu limited compared to prior fare and much more expensive. Dishes more "unusual" and fell short of "good food" in an attempt to be more exotic. Not that busy for lunch, but service was slow. Only observed one server. Soup of the day was chicken and dumplings... So thick it was like gravy and sent it back. Oysters were very tasty, served on shells that sat on a bed of rock salt. The salt contaminated both the oysters and moreso the toast slices. Doubtful I will return. read more

I recently tried out Fork and Barrel, formerly General Public House for their dinner service. As a resident of Winter springs, I was optimistic for the re-opening and hopeful for a new spot to frequent in the area. Fork and Barrel did not disappoint! Our server was very attentive and provided great recommendations and direction with the new menu. The goat cheese bruschetta was unique with the perfect combination of flavors and the lobster butter that came with the oysters was chef's kiss. I also loved the option to be able to mix and match the side plates as a great starter option. We finished the meal off with the sticky toffee pudding which was a fan favorite that even my four year old devoured. The manager, Carlos, was very present and professional, checking on the table often to make sure the experience was perfect. Overall, we had a great time, and I will definitely be back to try his recommendation for the pan seared grouper! read more

Dissapointing. I never leave reviews on Yelp and doing my first one now in hopes the restaurant can turn things around. I was really looking forward to it's reopening from when it was General Public House and now not sure how it will do in the long run. Nice decor (similar to how it looked before) with a great central location, yet food and service was nothing special. We were charged $14 for the smallest and weakest Old Fashion. Food was mediocre, bland in taste. The prices on our bill did not match the prices listed on the menu. They gave us kids menus but said they had no crayon's. For a place that just opened, it's all about the details. I found it interesting that the owner mentioned in a press interview that he is looking to open up more locations in Malibu and Calabasas. Reality check, I'm not even sure this restaurant will survive here. What's most disappointing is that this has been a neighborhood stable (previously as GPH) and I know several folks that were excited to try it out. Despite this being a negative review, I plan to come back again in a few months. I want to give it another try in the hopes they have turned things around and just getting through the new opening kinks...fingers crossed. read more

We were sat in a dining room off to the side with only one other table seated but were seated in the back near the server station/storage area for high chairs. It also had a nice view of the men's room. Music was quite loud and the table sat after us asked to be moved. As we looked at the menu, 2 other tables were sat and servers quickly approached those tables to take their drink orders but still no one had come to our table. We flagged down a waitress who at first said we had another server but then said she would be our server. I get it, things happen, but the experience was not great as a first time guest. Drinks were slow to come but food came quickly. I had the pork chop and my friend had the mahi. The food was good but for the price point I would say they were just okay; we likely wouldn't return for what we had. They do have happy hour from 4-6 with drinks ($4 wells, $6 vodkas and $10 cocktails. $3 off wine) and $3 off starters and $2 off desserts. We opted to skip a starter because at $13+, we weren't sold even with $3 off. Had we not planned to order entrees, they might have been more enticing. Overall an okay experience but sadly nothing that made me excited to return. read more
