I love learning more about the ingredients and process from the staff as everyone I've come across is very knowledgeable on the options. Forte' chocolates are artfully, beautifully decorated and delicious. The ingredients taste extremely fresh. My son was stationed at Whidbey Island when he discovered Forte'. He ordered chocolates to be sent across the country for my birthday. When I had an issue with the shipment, Shannon took care of the situation very nicely and quickly. This is a nicely decorated, specialty chocolate store in downtown Mount Vernon. I had read previous reviews so I was prepared for sticker shock and definitely was excited to taste and explore the yummy options. There weren't any prices. The lady working there was wonderful and answered all of our questions. We did some sampling and made our purchase. I'm looking forward to the Christmas tree hunt or whatever that event is called. It's festive and a fun opportunity to possibly win a decorated tree while shopping town. The truffles were my favorite. I'm looking forward to trying the hot chocolate too. read more

We went there on a whim because we had heard good reports about their goods. My wife is disabled and has a medical condition that often requires immediate access to a rest room. We were told that there was no customer restroom available, only for employees. My wife experienced severe discomfort until we got to another nearby establishment which was very understanding and graciously allowed her access to their employee restroom. Consequently we had to cut our day short and retun home. Outstanding. Award wining. Chocolate. The first thing you have to know is that Forte is not a candy store, it is most likely not for children. Or anyone who isn't in the mood to appreciate the nuances and complex artistry that goes into producing a really fantastic sensory experience. However, if you can appreciate a good wine or a local brew, if you care about organics and fair labor practices then this is a place you want to be. Try this, buy a Lemon and Pepper WhiteChocolate (I know, but trust me) Gusto bar and shave or grate a bit onto grilled steak and baked potato. Or bust up a Tazmainian Pepper and Lime Dark Chocolate bar and let bits of it melt in your mouth. Or if you have the time and feel really luxuriant, get the Orange Jazz Forte bar, open it right there in the store and eat bits of it with some one you love strolling the river walk along the Skagit river. A forte bar is meant to be shared and savored. I take at least three days to eat a whole one on my own. The price reflects everything I have just said. So for us it is a destination, a treat, a date night or guest experience- for special guests! This is a splurge to savor! read more

This chocolate won first place at the World Chocolate Championships in Belgium for a good reason: it's the world's best chocolate even when compared to Belgium's homegrown goodies (and Forte has been placing at this tourney for years!). We are so lucky to have this company call Skagit County Home. The chocolate is well priced: not inexpensive but FAIRLY priced for the quality of the ingredients and overall product, like flavor which is deep, rich, and complex; texture smooth and clean, like never gritty. MY FAVES: My favorites are the classic milk chocolate bar and it's hip cousin the salted milk choc bar. The lemon white chocolate bar is divine and quite unique; I normally don't care for white chocolate. And I recently tried their Almond Toffee.... good lawd it's to die for. The texture is simply incredible. REQUEST: I'd love a peanut butter / milk chocolate truffle or bar. It's my all time combo, but it's hard to find in higher quality like this. read more

The one item in the store they don't have samples for is the 7oz bags of caramels. Caramels are my absolute favorite sweets so I bought two bags not realizing they were 20 dollars a bag! $20 dollars for 7 oz of caramels is completely outrageous, but too late I already bought them. I got the "24 piece Fleur de Sal Caramels - Checkerboard" as a gift. It was the best caramels I have ever had, hands down. Since then, I have tried their truffles. Once again, the best I have ever had. The are smooth smooth and rich. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it. The packaging is very elegant as well. I would highly recommend this as a gift to anyone who likes real fresh gourmet chocolate. I love the fact I we can get quality chocolate! So different then the candy bars and so called Swiss chocolates. read more

Took my family in for an after meal treat. We had never been here before. As soon as I walked in I knew we were in the wrong spot. We can't afford this chocolate. It was $3 for a 1/2 inch piece or Caramel! OMG! I'm sure it was delicious but we let our sons enjoy it, we couldn't afford to buy any for ourselves. I was hoping for an experience like See's. We usually go in there and buy two nice pieces each and it's about six dollars (resonable). This place is for people who can afford six dollars for a tiny chocolate bar or $15 for chocolate bark. Not the place for us regular people I guess. Guess we'll stick to See's and Rocky Mountain chocolate. There we no affordable choices for our family. :( That being said, the people behind the counter were lovely and helpful. There were samples everything was totally clean and beautiful. So if you really have a palate and LOVE for chocolate and lots of money to spend on it, this would be the place for you! The only reason we wont be going back is that it's WAY out of our price range and dosn't seem like it has choices for kids and families...which is sad for downtown Mount Vernon. read more

[First of all, let me say to Forte (and other businesses) that if someone is ill, they should not be working the counter...] Okay, that aside (and I'm sure that will never happen again), Forte Chocolates are great. They are probably in my top 10 list of chocolate shops (along with Maison du Chocolat, Recchuiti, Teuscher, and a few others). What makes the chocolates great is the control over the flavors and textures. For example, the Orange Essence chocolate doesn't hit you over the head with orange, but rather keeps it right below the surface. The Aztec Soul chocolate has a great progression from chili to chocolate without overwhelming either. The caramels there are dark-ish in flavor and expand on your palate. (I will say that if subtlety is not your thing, you might not get why these are so good. But then you should probably not waste your money at the other places I mentioned either.) The shop itself is tiny, a little hard to see, and there isn't much on display, so I'm not sure that this a destination type place, but it's definitely worth trying the chocolates (and especially the salt caramels) if you're in the area. I find Forte's to be outstanding on both the quality and customer service fronts. First, quality: I was introduced to Forte's at the Northwest Chocolate Festival. Amongst a sea of stellar chocolates, theirs were among a handful that really stood out, especially their Lemon Pepper and Balsamic Vinegar. I never eat white chocolate, but I made an exception for them. My girlfriend also enjoyed their honey dark chocolate. Second, customer service: sensitive, responsive, and humane. I had trouble with their e-commerce system and let them know; they gave me a discount on shipping due to the inconvenience. More importantly, the chocolate I was ordering was a time-sensitive delivery to a terminal patient. When they learned of this, they bypassed their normal system to get my order out the same day, and it was delivered two days later. I was so impressed and so grateful for their efforts above and beyond the call of duty. Bottom line: great company to buy from. Quality and service. I found them reasonably priced relative to other artisan chocolatiers. Obvious choice! read more

While this chocolate shop is a little hard to find and have only a small selection, they produce high end treats. They gave me some of the best customer service ever and were very knowledgable on all things chocolate. It is worth your time to stop and grab a sampler pack and talk to the staff. read more

forte makes more than just chocolates. I discovered them at the NW chocolate festival in 2015. There were a lot of vendors there and they stood out. I picked up a bag of their chipotle honey caramels.... unbelievable. I love chocolate and spice normally, putting the zing in caramel was just heaven. Highly recommend Forte, delicious! read more
