What Superman is driving these days...

Ended up with a dead battery in my X5 on the wharf in San Francisco last week and called AAA, so they sent us Superman! Juan from Fortes Brothers shows up less than 10 minutes later and immediately demonstrates "He's the man!" Familiar with BMW's, knew right where the battery was hidden, had all the right tools and had his sensors hooked up and diagnostics running in under 2 minutes. He also had a BMW spec battery with him and replaced mine and had me on my way in less than 15 min! The guy is a true pro! Next time you have car trouble, make sure your Bat Phone is connected to Juan at Forte Bros/AAA!

Dont answer the door during regular hours which is illegal and their management kept blocking me from taking the car by standing in front of it even after I paid (because apparently some other staff hadn't done their job and "escorted me"). Wasted about 1 hr all in all. Ripoff price too. 500$ for a 1mile tow. Joke.

Manny from Forte Brothers Towing - super guy!

Super customer service ! - when you're in a panic, car's warning light going off, can't steer - on a weekend no less, Manny is your man to tow your car - really appreciated his reassurance - doesn't get any better.

A dirty Mt View, CA, cop stole my Mercedes at 3am with the help of a Fortes Bros equally dirty employee! NO ONE CARED!!

No one picked up and there was no returned phone calls. I am just going to go in tomorrow and pick up my car and take it to another location. Update 6/30: It seemed the mechanics were fine, I'm sure it is a capable shop. I finally got a call on Friday (1 hour before i was going in to pick up my car to move it to another repair shop). The nice person who accepted my car let me know that they had completed the diagnostic. I told him I was just gonna come in and get it since it had been 9 days since i had dropped it off and couldn't get ahold of anyone there. Plus on my voicemail on Tuesday i had said to cancel the diagnostic. I picked up my car and took it to another place. Also worth noting... I responded to the yelp response below on Wednesday with screenshots of my call log and the address where i took it. I got no response from that email address, no phone call, no nothing. I suspect the problems with this place are one or more of the following: * They have a LOT of cars onsite. My guess is that they are accepting too many and we would all be better served if they didn't over commit and said no to some of us. * I am guessing there used to be someone who was in charge of answering phone calls and responding to voicemails and communicating with the mechanics. Now there seems to be no one dedicated to this (though maybe an overworked mechanic who is stretched too thin). On Friday the person i worked with seemed to have no knowledge I had cancelled my diagnostic 4 days earlier. * Maybe they have an automated system for responding to one star yelp reviews... and it is not being monitored anymore. * Maybe their phone system is down or misconfigured and they are losing phone calls and voicemails. * Maybe the owner (or office manager) is sick. I hope they get better if so.

The office staff was professional, communication was good, and the shop was clean. In addition to changing my oil, they did a detailed overall inspection, which included a battery stress test, engine, brakes, and undercarriage. The full report, which included photos, was emailed to me and I was impressed by how comprehensive it was. If you just need an oil change and can do the minor maintenance and inspections yourself, then it will be a bit pricy at this shop (~$170). However, if you want someone else to do all that, it would be cheaper than a dealership.

I went back to the shop 3 times over the course of ~9 months, each time discovering some issues and replacing the pad/disk (this is where i felt good about the shop, everyone welcomed me back and did the diagnose and replacement for free). I end up relacing the two front pad/disk with another brand (zimmerman? that's what i heard) and resolved all issues. Maybe I just got unlucky, but I have to leave my honest and true experience which exhausts me over the last year (imagine every time you back out of your garage and hearing this "click" sound from your brake system, with a baby in a car. You natually worries about your safety).

Time and time again, Rick (runs the front desk and I believe is the owner) and the rest of the folks at Yarnell's have provided our family of cars the highest level of customer service! If you have a Toyota or Honda (or Lexus or Acura), they are the go to place for whatever ails your car. (They do other makes as well, but specialize on Toyota/Honda.) The job gets done right the first time and for the right price. Just this past week, I had the (12V) battery replaced in my 2006 Highlander Hybrid along with the headlight restoration (now I can actually see the road at night!). When everything was done I asked Rick to come out and listen to something I heard in the car for the first time that morning. Turned out to be tons of leaves/debris coming in contact with the AC blower. He pulled out the old air filter lickity split and replaced it. "How much do I owe you?" I said, "No charge." he said. That's just one example of the several times he has helped/provided something at no charge. He's provided advice over the phone several times too! The day Rick decides to retire will be a sad day for all of Yarnell's customers. Yarnell's really understands what it means to serve their community.
