Went for brunch with my guy. They had a special for beef tenderloin eggs Benedict, with grits, and cornmeal hash browns casserole, with applewood smoked bacon. We both decided to get it, me minus the bacon (no pork). The eggs Benedict were delicious, with the meat being just like its name, tender. The grits were super creamy, and cooked perfectly. Lastly the hashed browns weren't spectacular, but rather okay. Loved the many free coffee refills. Overall a great experience! Would come back. read more

Delicious spot in North GA! My family and I were looking for a dinner place while staying in a cabin house in North GA and I am glad we found Fortify! The drinks were strong, the server was attentive, and the food was delicious! We ordered the scallops which came on top of a delicious gnocchi as our appetizer. The only complaint here was that it was a little too salty. My favorite dish was the Grit Bowl, which appeared to be a mixture of seafood and meat on top of grits! My husband does not even like grits but he raved about this dish! We will definitely come back if we are in the area! read more

The food is incredible! We had the Gouda pimento cheese balls as an appetizer and they were amazing. As an entree, I had the crab cakes. I've visited Fortify for both lunch and dinner, and I've been blown away both times. I held back on reviewing the restaurant until I had the opportunity to experience both. Service is outstanding, and both meals were two of the best meals I've EVER eaten at a restaurant (Meatloaf for lunch, lamb chops for dinner), same for desserts (blood orange creme brulee, strawberry cobbler). Honolulu, Miami, Denver, Atlanta, Washington, Salt Lake City, Charleston, New Orleans, Austin-- I don't think I've had a better experience in any of these places. I can't speak for every customer, but this place certainly has it together. I can't really think of a legitimate complaint. Also, my mom had the burger for lunch, which looked incredible, and my girlfriend had filet mignon for dinner. Presentation, taste, you name it-- incredible. Oh, and the lamb chops were served with a quinoa and blueberry combo and complemented with chimichurri and feta cheese, all having me wonder how chefs go about discovering these insanely delicious taste mash-ups. Portion sizes were just fine! These people know how to operate a great restaurant. I could go on about the food, but the service here is special. Interact with the staff a little, and you'll find that they're very passionate about the restaurant and what they're doing in Clayton, Georgia. Food knowledge is dropped on you with tremendous enthusiasm-- they are happy to answer your questions with serious detail. The waiting folks seem to be candid yet professional, and I haven't met the chef, but its clear that he has invested a lot of creative care into the food. I've got to give credit to Austin for tonight's service! And Zac for the enthusiasm and kitchen passion! I'm having a little trouble recalling the waitress's name from lunch a few months back, but they're all excellent at what they do. It is such a pleasure to eat here, and we will be back many times. Best meal we had in Clayton. From the Fried Green Tomatoes and Gouda Fritters for appetizers to the Beef Filet and Pork Tenderloin the entire meal was divine. I was a bit disappointed in the apple-blueberry crisp (way too many uncooked apples) no where near enough crisp. A great addition to Clayton. My mom and her friends go all the time which says a lot. This was my first time and we went for dinner. Food was delightful. Service was AMAZING. PERECT. The pear/vodka drink from the bar is a must. Don't even think about missing it! Fried green tomatoes were good but the coating/breading was a little much for my taste. I would still order them again. The gator part of the appetizer special was okay; its accompanying slaw was awesome. Everything was perfectly cooked - lamb chops, halibut and scallops. Lamb chops were well seasoned. My only complaint is the the halibut was a little salty and the scallops were very salty. It wouldn't stop me from ordering them again. I would just make sure to ask them to go light on the salt. We stopped in on a Sunday not knowing what to expect in this little town but I had read the Yelp reviews and it sounded like it would be a great new place to eat during our travels. The pork chop. That's almost all I need to write. Just get the pork chop. It was magical. I've been there twice. The first time my wife and I sat at the bar and were so well taken care of by the bartender. He might have been one of the friendliest people I've ever met. He was sure to remember everyone seated at the bar by name and joked and chatted with each person making them feel as though they had been friends for much longer than 20 minutes. The second time we went, service was a bit of a struggle. Our food was majorly delayed and it was about an hour+ before we got our order. The waitress offered us a second appetizer, the manager gave us a free round of drinks and, after mentioning that I loved there chocolate caramel ganache tart but having no space to order it, the waitress brought it out in a box to take home also for free. I get it, sometimes things just happen, service suffers and you just don't get your food right away but, whatever the case, the staff went above and beyond to ensure that we were still taken care of. The ambience is great, the cocktails were tasty, appetizers are fantastic, and the bread is a perfect start. All that to say, I drive an hour to get there and, despite a hiccup last time, I can still strongly recommend it. Also...the pork chop. read more

My husband and I had dinner at Fortify after hiking at Black Rock Mountain. We went because of the excellent reviews and are glad that we did. Everything was delicious-the bread basket which consisted of a variety of 4 breads all made in house and served with a duck fat butter and herbed butter, we ate it all! My husband had the Maple Farm duck with kale and a sweet potato polenta and I had the striped bass with a rice cake and a wonderful pear martini. We will return. We were very surprised to find such a great restaurant in the small town of Clayton. It was recommended by a friend and so we tried it out. We sat at the bar, had an Old Fashioned made with local James Henry Bourbon. Very nice cocktail. Then had Gouda bites that were scrumptious. My husband had their grits bowl which was very unique shrimp, grits and fried chicken. His only complaint was he'd have liked more grits. I had duck lettuce wraps which were ok, but nothing special. What made the meal though was the dessert, a caramelized banana and peanut butter semifreddo. Don't miss it. The bartenders were friendly and skilled with making many types of cocktails.
