I had my doubts. CH is known for being all vibes, no taste, but Fortunate Son may actually be one of their restaurants that is getting it right! The food here is really good! My husband and I couldn't narrow down our favorites so we ordered more than we needed! We got the crab rangoons, fried rice, orange chicken, honey walnut shrimp and green beans. Everything was delicious! You can never go wrong starting with crab rangoons. The fried rice was really tasty and well seasoned. The orange chicken had that real orange glaze (not overly sweet). Our stand outs were the honey walnut shrimp and the green beans. Both were crisp and cooked so fresh! We had plenty to go after because they did provide some nice sized portions! The restaurant itself is very vibey and over the top, as to be expected, but way smaller than I expected. Definitely make a reservation. They have a limited drink menu with a few non alcoholic options and 3 beers. Glad I finally got to try this place and that I was so pleasantly surprised by the food!
I always passed by this place and it looked intriguing, especially their inside decor, here was my experience. AMBIANCE Parking: Welcome to (No)rth (Park). It can get pretty busy just got to put in some extra time in the neighborhood or streets for metered parking. Seating: Inside and outside seating. For inside, reservations are recommended. Room for about 50 people. Vibes: Welcome to North Park, a lot of eateries and bars to hop around. It's a pretty hip place with constant traffic. The spot itself is Retro Chinese-American aesthetic with a modern twist. Think red lighting, plants, and a playlist that keeps the energy up. It's one of those spots that feels trendy but still approachable--good for dates or catching up with friends. FOOD / DRINKS Mayo Walnut Shrimp (Recommend) This is one of their standout dishes--and for good reason. Crispy shrimp coated in that creamy, slightly sweet sauce with candied walnuts. It hits that crunchy + rich + sweet combo really well and is easily one of the safer bets on the menu. Green Beans (Recommend) Simple but solid. Good balance to the heavier shrimp--fresh, slightly savory/umami making it a nice side to round things out. Ginger Lemonade (Recommend) A refreshing sip with a nice bite of ginger. SERVICE Friendly and efficient, especially considering how busy it gets. Food comes out fairly quick once you're seated. TL;DR OVERALL 4 stars. Steady prices, good food, and good choices. Fun spot with strong vibes and solid Chinese-American comfort food. It leans more elevated takeout-style than traditional, but that's kind of the appeal. I've been to pretty good Chinese spots but this is a nice experience if you're looking for nice aesthetics and good food. TIPS * This is one of the Consortium Holdings (like Morning Glory) *They also serve food for next door (Polite Provisions)
Came here with a party of 7 and for what we ordered (9 items) we were all full, had some leftovers, and all for $157 after tax and tip!! We've been to a few CH group restaurants/bars and this one's a bit different (way more casual and affordable). It's also pretty small so resy's are def recommended. The Szechuan hot chicken wings and cucumbers and fried tofu were the highlights of the items ordered! Would pass on the cabbage and sausage dish, was recommended by our server but it's a bit simple. Also Also this isn't the most traditional Chinese food so def don't go in expecting that but it still tastes good!
It's more like 2.5, but "fortunately" the staff is really nice! It's always interesting to see someone's take on Chinese food. The interior and exterior are really cool! It's the kind of aesthetic that the current generation loves. But underneath it all, it's just one step above Panda Express with a hefty price tag. The noodles were decent, but something was missing, Chinese five spice...not sure. The fried rice was good. I mean, if you can't make decent fried rice than something is wrong. The kung pau was good too, but the heat was not as strong. Their version of orange chicken was more like orange chicken breading, the pieces looked big but were not. I did like the egg rolls. Again, this appeals to a whole different generation that's too afraid to venture to a hole in the wall down in South Bay. Plus it's expensive for what you get. Chinese food is suppose to be cheap but I'm sure the rent is crazy!
Food is excellent we got basically everything that our tiny table could not fit. The aesthetic is basically why we came here. Super cute, dark, great for date night till u realize that u can't find parking so now you're late to your reservation. Which BTW don't come here if u don't have a reservation. Nice to try but idk if I would come back again
Took our mom here for her birthday and what a great choice it was. We had a reservation so we were seated right away without any wait. From the outside you wouldn't think much of it, but the moment you walk in your jaw just drops. The interior is absolutely stunning. A Chinese dragon stretches across the ceiling, red lanterns hang everywhere, and there's a cozy fireplace that just ties the whole vibe together. The space is on the smaller side but it works perfectly. It genuinely felt like we were transported to another world. We went all out and ordered pretty much everything on the menu and zero regrets. Service was impressively quick and every single dish delivered. My personal favorites were the Dan Dan noodles and the salt and pepper shrimp. We devoured everything so fast and still had leftovers from over ordering, which we happily took home. And the best part? The price. Incredibly affordable for the quality of food and the one of a kind dining experience you get. Honestly such a gem in North Park. If you haven't been, go!
They finally take reservations, yay! For the longest time they didn't, and it was always so hard to get into. This was my second time going, the first was when they first opened. The decor is still very similar, and looks very beautiful with all of the red and green decorations. The beautiful lanterns and Floral pieces all over really make this a perfect spot for the Lunar New Year celebration. We came to celebrate with the small group. I believe the largest group they can see is about 6. This area can be tough for parking, so plan to arrive early enough before your reservation, as you might have to circle around a bit. This place gets packed, as it is very popular still, and I'm not sure if everyone knows they take reservations because the walk in line was huge. One of the downsides is that the restaurant is very small, and there isn't much room to fit large groups, and they don't have much space for reservations. We ordered several dishes, and enjoyed most of them. The prices are fairly reasonable as well, and the food is mean to share family style. Orange chicken - several people in our group thought this could've had more orange flavor to it, however i thought it was just the right amount of orange flavor. It was cooked very well and not chewy or over fried. Chongqing crispy tofu - im normally not a fan of tofu but i really enjoyed this dish. It was crispy on the outside as described and coated in a nice seasoning with cumin. I would order this again. Bok Choy and Green beans - my least favorite, it had no flavor and needed salt and they both tasted the same because the gravy they were coated in seemed to be identical for both dishes. Wouldn't recommend. Dan Dan noodles - one of my favorite dishes. The noodles were cooked just right, not mushy or hard. They had a lot of flavor and everyone agreed they were very good. Salt and pepper shrimp - another one of our favorites, we all agreed they were delicious. Nice and crispy with a good flavor and not overly salty at all. Would recommend. Fried Rice - we had two orders of this one with beef and one with shrimp. Both were excellent, everyone agreed, lots of flavor, great texture and another of my favorite dishes. General Tso's chicken - the flavor on this was excellent. A little kick to it, just enough, and the chicken was cooked perfectly just like the orange chicken. Crab rangoon - I love when you can find these with real crab and that's what these had. I enjoyed them, and wish there were more in the order. Overall the experience was pretty great. Decor was beautiful, food was excellent and the staff was friendly. They did rush us out as soon as we were done, but I get it they had a long line of people waiting to come in. There were six in our group, we ordered lots of food to share, and had lots of food to take home. I highly recommend coming here at least once.
My friends and I had an early dinner to celebrate the Lunar New Year. There were only 6 of us, but we ordered 9 dishes! We ordered the following to share family style: - Fried wontons - Crispy tofu - Szechuan green beans - Bok Choy - Shrimp & pork dumplings - Dam Dan noodles - Shrimp fried rice - Beef fried rice - Orange Chicken Service was good and the food wasn't too bad, although it wasn't entirely authentic Chinese. My friends all seemed to really enjoy the food. I ate very lightly because I was going to another dinner. The restaurant was beautifully decorated with a long dragon floating in the ceiling that stretched all along the interior of the restaurant before the decorative arch at the entrance. I was there mainly for the company and photo ops.
Such a cool space with an intimate vibe and great service from start to finish. Everything is served family-style and they definitely don't skimp on portions, which makes it perfect for sharing and trying a little bit of everything. Drink options include beer and wine along with tea, lemonade, and soft drinks simple but fitting for the experience. The wonton soup is legendary: jumbo shrimp wontons, rich flavorful broth, and comforting in the best way. Do not miss the dumplings they've got a nice little kick of spice and so much flavor. Parking in this area is always a challenge, so rideshare is your best bet. Reservations are highly recommended if you want to sit indoors. Overall, absolutely worth a visit. They also do a takeout and you can get drinks at Polite Provisions next door and order from Fortunate Son but you miss the vibe.
I definitely need to come back here, but from what I remember this spot was pretty good! There was a bit of a wait when I went, but nothing too crazy. Parking around here can definitely be a pain so keep that in mind. One thing that really stuck out to me was the fried rice I'd 100% order that again. The vibe alone is super dope. They really nailed the decor down to the T. The whole place has a dark, moody ambiance and a really cool aesthetic that makes it feel unique. I actually came here for a birthday celebration and the service was overall really nice which made the experience even better. The only sad part is they had this dessert that they no longer have and it was SO good. I still think about it sometimes and wish they'd bring it back. Overall a really chill spot with good food and a great atmosphere. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.
Good news is the food here is great. The service could be a bit better so my advice is to go next door to Polite Provisions and order there. The bar staff there is awesome and it has more tables. Okay, so food! The tofu dish was da bomb here. Perfectly crispy and great flavor. And the portion was really large. They give at least 12 pieces.
Fortunate son has been on my list to try for a few years and my husband surprised me yesterday with a little birthday outing for linner and man, did it mean expectations! Ambiance - nailed it, so freaking cute! I definitely want to go back at night to show moody it can be! Service- very friendly, helpful and attentive! Food - really love that everything was family style and the flavors were on point! The orange chicken was refreshing almost! Like you could taste hand squeezed orange almost, idk how else to describe it! The lo mein was delicious, the general tso cauliflower was delicious... Literally zero complaints about this place and the prices are excellent too!
All of the food was excellent--except for the hot and sour soup, which lacked both heat and tang. Everything else tasted incredibly fresh and didn't have the heavy, greasy feel you sometimes get with typical Chinese food. The décor is vibrant and colorful. It's a bit dark and can get a little loud, but overall it's fun, lively, and full of interesting details everywhere you look. Service was good. It took a little while before we were checked on, but the staff was very friendly. The pacing of the meal was unusual: a side dish arrived first, followed by the appetizers, and finally the soup. If you're looking for fresh dishes and a fun, energetic atmosphere, this spot is definitely worth a try.

Yet another entirelyyyy overrated CH production. They make it so "exclusive" with their hours long wait times despite there being a bunch of empty tables at any given time. The service is horribly slow, lacking warmth and attention. The food is nothing better, if not even worse, than your average Chinese takeout spot on the East coast. Every dish was either drenched or swimming in an overwhelming amount of sauce taking away from the dish entirely as that's all you taste rather than the food itself. If you're looking for Chinese American, with everything else that San Diego and the Convoy area have to offer - Hard pass on Fortunate Son. read more
We had a delicious night out with friends here! It was all our first time going here and we enjoyed everything we ate. From the Orange Chicken, Beef & Broccoli, Fried Rice, Salt & Pepper Shrimp to the Lo Mein Noodles...it was all so yummy! The portions are family size so great for groups or for a big appetite! Great service, super kind and fast staff that were very attentive the entire time. We also really enjoyed our food. We got the honey walnut shrimp and the lo mein noodles and were full and happy by the end of our meal, though we wish we could have had room for more! The ambiance is also gorgeous and there were many people having a good time there. We took very pretty photos here. I would 100% recommend for anyone to try, but with a reservation unless you are prepared to wait 1-2hrs. P.S. You can also always go to polite provisions and order the food from there! read more

We waited two hours in a Friday night after checking in at 4:45pm. We were sat outside but the heater kept us warm. The service was surprisingly quick. We ordered the crab ragoons which were amazing, the wonton soup delicious wonton, with a simple but flavorful broth, and jumbo shrimp, general tsos chicken delicious, beef and broccoli so good. read more
I have been wanting to go here for years and finally made the trip. I took my fiancé for her birthday and an early Valentine's Day dinner. The food was amazing. We tried a few different dishes to make sure we got the full experience. The service was great and the ambiance of the place is very lively but intimate. Super cool place, very well decorated, we did Chinese style Funky, cool, great music, pretty loud too. And fairly good food. We have the orange chicken, honey shrimp, some noodles, fried rice, cucumber, salad, and some of the green beans which were OK. It's fun and happening. I just wish they had an open bar. read more
The wait is long, we had a reservation and still had to wait a bit. And the restaurant is very small so you have to wait outside. But our length of wait was worth it. The food was absolutely wonderful. The portions are family style so you get plenty of food. We ordered the walnut shrimp, beef and broccoli, and got a fried rice. All of that was great and the following day. The Szechuan hot chicken wings are not spicy at all and they had the perfect crisp to them. The crab rangoons were just okay. There is not much filling in it, it is mostly just the wonton wrapper. I would not recommend getting them because it not worth the money for how little you get, unless you enjoy wonton wrappers. We saw on the Instagram reel about this cool and beautiful decor Chinese restaurant. The place is small and tight. The waiting time to eat inside with the fancy decors took us about 1-3 hours wait. They have limited seating outside as well. Good luck finding a parking spot in this area. The food was meh. This is an American version Chinese food. read more
While at polite provision, got hungry and decided to order from here. So glad we did. The food was pleasantly good. I really like the general tso, the wings had a good crunch to it but lack flavor and spice which was disappointing as I was expecting some heat. Overall, I will definitely be back to try out other items on the menu. read more

The interior is so beautiful! I just loved the red lanterns and dragon. They had some red lanterns that made the vibe intimate for date night. It's pretty small and cozy inside so not a good place to bring a huge party. More of a romantic date night! On the food.... lol...Okay... so we were the only Asian patrons there which kind of said a lot. The food was very Americanized and kind of salty. The portions are massive though. I would rate this place a 4/5 for Asian food but a 5/5 for aesthetics read more
I'm not the biggest fan of Chinese food bc I usually find it bland but WOW THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. The chicken was SO crispy and flavorful. The mushrooms were juicy and perfectly seasoned!! FORTUNATE SON @ North Park I was pretty stoked about this place after hearing it was a go-to spot from my boyfriends friend over and over again. We did a walk in, and it was a 2 hour wait, so we waited, more than excited. It did indeed take the 2 hour wait, so recommend reservations ahead of time. Parking was a massacre, it's all street or pay to park but there isn't any spots even available (small lot) The ambiance was astonishing and stunning, I absolutely loved the lantern lights, the dragons, and all the small details of this place. Even the plate, they were asian liked with the traditional bowls and chopsticks. We ordered 4 things off the menu, the honey walnut shrimp, bok choy, the fried chicken, and the beef fried rice. I actually disliked quite everything besides the honey walnut shrimp. The bok choy came with just about 8 pieces, so small, and it was SOGGY, drenched in their salty sauce. Fried chicken was dry, no flavor besides the pound of green onions and red pepper, it was atleast hot and crispy. The beef fried rice was the WORSE for me, once you got down half way, it was drenched with so much oil (photo is also inserted). It was also all over my plate and there was just a whole pocket of oil, and it made my stomach later that night feeling awful. The service was horrible as well. I waited outside with at least 4 other people behind me as three of the same servers glanced at us all and walked straight passed us, until one of them finally says, i'll be with you shortly, then immediately leaves. Our waiter never filled our water up, and I think they are understaffed because the same two waiters were the only ones we saw bussing out all the tables of the place itself. read more

The interior of this restaurant is stunning. You are introduced with many flying lanterns and 2 dragons running across the whole place. Many chinese inspired decorations are everywhere. It is a little smaller than i expected it to be but nevertheless the atmosphere displays comfort chinese food. There was a party of 4 of us and we all ended leaving full and satisfied. Not to mention all the food listed below was an affordable $120 and we still had many leftovers left. We ordered the Shrimp Fried rice, pork and vegetable egg rolls, pork and shrimp dumpling, crab rangoon, orange chicken, honey walnut shrimp, salt & pepper shrimp and the dan dan noodles. Out all of my favorite dishes the pork and shrimp dumplings were my favorite. The chili sauce had a nice hint of spiciness but was boasting with soy flavor. The orange chicken was more on the citrus/sweet side, kind of like panda express. The salt & pepper shrimp was very spicy but in a strong taste of pepper way. The shrimp fried rice was excellent. The pork eggs rolls were boasting with flavor and the nice sweet chili sauce was a great addition with it. The crab rangoons also tasted very crunchy and were fulfilling with the creme cheese. The honey walnut shrimp was a nice addition as well. It was sweet and tangy. The service was exceptional and the spot even hit more on a rainy cloudy day. Nevertheless i will be coming back here. Please keep in mind you may want to book a reservation here as it does get busy here. In addition it is the heart of north park.... Parking is very hard to find. Did we have a reservation? No. Did we try to make one? Also no. But somehow we made it in time to out our name down for a short 45 minute wait for an outside table. TIP: Reserve in advance and book indoors - it's worth it! The staff was accommodating, pleasant and not overbearing even though they had a long waitlist. The food, delicious! We tried some classics and specialities and you really can't go wrong! The vibes are always perfection from CH, as expected - every detail accounted for. Reservation recommended. We were quoted an hour wait, and decided to head to Polite Provisions next door to order food. Food was good! General Tso's chicken was super tangy and spicy - the perfect mix of both! The shrimp and pork wontons were alright. I wasn't a fan of the sesame seeds, but I'd just order it without any next time. The bok choy was super saucy and garlicky! Loved the food! The portion of the chicken was good for the price, however we found the bok choy and wontons not worth the price they were at. They both had smaller portions and were over $10 for each plate. read more

Check into our reservation at 8:30 and got seated right away! The restaurant itself is really beautiful but also super small, there were about 8-10 small tables in the middle with bigger tables each left and right near the entrance. There were a few outside seating as well! Service was cool! Server was slightly attentive but food came out quick! Dishes are family size so everything is shareable! Cucumber salad: (3/10) the cucumbers were hard and the sauce barely stick to it Szechuan green beans: (8/10) this was actually my favorite dish I got! They were perfectly sauced with the green beans not being too soft but also still having that little crunch! General tso's chicken: (6.5/10) the chicken breading was a little too much but it had a good flavor with a kick to it! Salt & pepper shrimp: (7/10) similar breading to the honey walnut shrimp, it had a good pepper taste to it and if you eat it with the stir fried green onions it tastes so good! Also has a lil kick to it! Dan Dan noodles: (5/10) the noodles were soooo soft and overcooked, I typically don't like Dan Dan noodles but the flavor was actually really good, the dish has potential if the noodles weren't soo soft Shrimp & pork dumplings: (7/10) very slightly similar to the spicy dumplings from din tai fung. Ginger lemonade: (8/10) has super strong ginger taste which I really like but the lemon was in question because I couldn't really taste it but I still love the drink tho . Overall food was super mediocre and nothing I was wow about but the aesthetics and decor were beautiful! 6 dishes, a bowl of rice + 2 drinks came out to a total of $100 which is actually really affordable, we came in with a party of 3, paying a little over $33 per person!! So I would range the pricing $20-30 per person depending on what you get! We had a lot of leftovers as well! read more
Fortunate son in North Park is a beautiful Chinese restaurant with elegant Chinese decorative ceilings and red lights to make for a romantic setting. A good place for Chinese food to dine in or take out. I ordered the Honey Walnut Shrimp, Szechuan hot chicken wings, beef fried rice, and Shanghai bok choy. The Pros: The honey walnut shrimp was absolutely delicious and perfectly crispy. Every bite was amazing and definitely worth ordering if you like shrimp. The chicken wings and beef fried rice had great flavor too. They have only one bathroom but the decor and vibe matched the decor and ambiance inside. Service were nice and the food came out pretty quick, with all the items being more larger appetizer sized plates that act as shareables. Most items do not come with rice or noodles and will have to be ordered separately. The Cons: Be prepared to wait about an hour and a half to two hours for a table of you are doing a walk in. Definitely make a reservation way in advanced. This place is pretty small and they get filled up fast. The beef fried rice was also very oily, more oily than I'd like it to be. Obviously, a Chinese restaurant has more oil used than most places but there was a puddle of oil at the bottom of our bowl. Great flavor up until you get to the end. The bok choy was also not the great. Not a ton of bok choy and it was drowned in a sauce which overpowered the veggie. The chicken wings also felt like it needed a sauce and was also drowned in green onions and cilantro. Parking is atrocious and difficult to find. It is mostly street parking with a pay to park lot behind the building. The Verdict: I'd recommend trying this place out at least once. The long wait increased the hype to the place and other people we saw looked to enjoy it. I'd consider coming back to try the other items but not anytime soon, or maybe try to do take out instead. read more

Gillian was amazing! I have several food allergies which causes a bit of anxiety eating out, but she made me feel genuinely taken care of and comfortable. There was a slight mishap out of her control but she and the team went above and beyond to end things on a high note. We used to live closer or I'd say we'd be back soon, but we'll definitely keep FS in our back pocket when hosting friends. read more

Went to Fortunate Son a few weeks ago and I was super impressed. The ambiance has to be the most stylish I've seen for a Chinese Restaurant. Bonus points for being right next to Polite Provisions as well! The service was also very friendly and welcoming. Now let's talk food, everything was amazing! The Honey Walnut Shrimp was hands down my favorite: crispy, flavorful, and paired perfectly with their fried rice. The Crispy Tofu was another standout, especially with the sauce it came with. Everything we ordered had bold flavors and was clearly made with care. Overall, a great experience. I can see myself ordering take out from here once in a while. Would I go again? Make sure to go in the evening time to see the beautiful interiors in all its glory! The lighting, ceilings, and presentation truly transport you. The staff was very accommodating because our original reservation was for patio seating but it was unfortunately raining that night. They helped us find a spot inside! Thanks so much! The food was so so good. We got the green beans, Dan Dan noodles, hot and sour soup, and honey walnut shrimp. We kinda went in on the food before I took a picture lol. But it was so so good. Our biggest compliment was that the green beans tasted like chicken and not just veggies! It fits the "Americanized Chinese food" description but still tasted pretty authentic with just milder flavors. Overall, very yummy and highly recommend if you're looking for fancier dinner options! read more

Tried to get a seat, but the place was packed solid. Pro tip: make a reservation--Fortunate Son stays in high demand. I ended up getting it to-go, and let me tell you... the magic travels. The beef Dan Dan noodles are next-level. Tender beef, perfectly chewy noodles, and that Szechuan chile garlic sesame sauce? Deep, spicy, and flavorful enough to wake up every taste bud you've got. Throw in preserved mustard greens, yu choy, crispy shallots, and that chile crunch, and you've got a symphony of flavor in every bite. Even though I wasn't dining in, Josh made sure I was taken care of--friendly, fast, and gave me the same level of attention as if I'd sat down for a five-course meal. Absolutely love the ambiance inside -- warm, inviting, and perfect for family-style dining. Portion sizes are generous..My favorite was definitely the honey walnut shrimp -- a must-order dish! My Brides birthday, so she got to pick... while I wouldn't normally pick a place like this, I'm a fan! Started out with the crab rangoon, next up the green beans, followed up with the walnut shrimp, and rounded out our visit with the kung pao chicken... everything including the fried rice was great! Only negative was the lack of local brews, though they had foreign beers I loved! Ambiance is Asian street party, service was prompt and helpful, and prices were slightly above expectation. It was my first time here last time with some friends and we were def satisfied. We tried to get in last year but the waitlist was super long. Def recommend a reservation if you want to eat here. Emily was so sweet when we first arrived early for our reservation. Our server Lauren was amazing as well. The food was amazing! So many options to choose from. My favorite was the honey walnut shrimp and the shrimp and pork dumplings. I love that it was family style so you can share things with the group going with. The ambiance was SUPER CUTE, loved all of the interior designs and they played really good music. Would def go back to try more things on the menu. read more

So I found myself at this spot because it's my friend's ride-or-die restaurant, and it was his birthday. Obviously, I couldn't say no -- peer pressure and free cake are powerful motivators. First tip: Uber like your happiness depends on it. Parking in North Park is basically an urban survival game and I did not bring the right gear. Once we made it through the great parking fiasco of 2025, we were greeted by a cozy, traditional little place that felt like the kind of restaurant where good food and good gossip are equally welcomed. Indoor and outdoor seating available, in case you're feeling mysterious or breezy. Our server was on it -- friendly, fast, and clearly had the menu memorized like it was the script to The Godfather. Now let's talk portions: massive. These weren't just "shareable," these were "bring a Tupperware and a second stomach" sized. I ordered the honey walnut shrimp and fried rice, and friends... that shrimp? Thick. Juicy. Drenched in creamy, sweet sauce. It made Panda Express feel like a sad, distant cousin who forgot your birthday. The fried rice, on the other hand, was a bit of a diva. It looked the part but didn't hit that wok-fried flavor I was craving. Texture was a little too soft, but after a splash of soy sauce and a drizzle of chili oil? Boom -- redemption. I also mooched some of my friend's kung pao chicken because, well, birthday dinners are for sharing (and I have zero shame). Flavor was on point, though I personally prefer my chicken to snap, crackle, and pop a bit more. All in all, this place is a win. Off of the 805 and near the intersection of Adams and 30th. Parking is a bit luck based here. Note that they do seem to prioritize togo orders. Loved the decor. The little planters on the fence have some spikey plants so be careful when sitting down for outdoor seating. Awesome thing is that if you're drinking at Polite Provisions, you can order the food and it will be delivered to your table. Like their neighbors, the staff were polite as... well you get the idea. Some of the dishes had very unique takes on dishes. The orange chicken was almost like a crossover with a sweet and sour sauce. The hot chicken wings were piping hot and were very uniquely seasoned (5-spice?). The fried rice was delicious. Beef with broccoli was perfectly cooked. Tofu wasn't our thing. read more

I have been wanting to dine here for sooo long! So happy my friends and I finally had the opportunity to! We ordered several items off the menu, we all agreed all entrees were delicious!!! It is not traditional Chinese food but it will not disappoint! I loved the ambiance. The seats were comfortable, their to go boxes have their name on them. Our waitress was very friendly. Parking can be a challenge as it is street parking only. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!!! read more

I feel pretty dang fortunate finding Fortunate Son! I go to San Diego every summer and this was the place that I knew I needed to try this year. My friend recommended it and it didn't disappoint. The honey walnut shrimp is a must order. Hands down. Mind blowing. Everything was so beautiful. The ambiance. The food. The vibes. Service was also good and efficient. Definitely get a reservation! No it's not POC owned, It's own by Consortium. Fortunate Son's chef Tony Guan I believe is a POC.
We tried to go tonight around 6:30 pm and were told there was a 3 hour wait for a table...? How is this possible and how do we manage this if there are no reservations? Many customers in line has the same question.
There's no trick to trying to get in on the weekends, outside of NOT trying on the weekends unless you're prepared to grab yourself a nice table at Polite Provisions and wait it out. Tuesday/Wednesday are less busy if you get there anytime before… Read more
