What's unfortunate is that I've been a patron for 13 years. However, after today, I will not go back. Late last night, I ordered the "shrimp in lobster sauce". It does NOT say on the menu that chunks of egg would be floating around in the sauce. It wasn't until after it arrived that I realized. I called the restaurant. Initially, the lady said "well why didn't you say 'no egg'?" I was highly offended by her questioning because I ordered SEAFOOD. Why would anyone assume that egg chunks would be floating in it?? Not only that, but the menu did NOT state that egg would be included (I am allergic). She eventually changed her tune and they were closing, so she credited me a free meal that would be linked to my phone number the next time I called. The next day (today), I called to retrieve my meal credit. The gentleman on the phone said that I could not get it because I would have to spend $12 before I could get food delivered & the amount of my meal wasn't enough (!!!!). In other words, I cannot get my free meal because I won't spend more money?? I spent money (including a delivery fee) last night on a meal I could not eat, and now they want me to spend money AGAIN to get the compensation meal?? How is this fair? He seemed quite disinterested in the situation too. This location has had really good food in the past. Always got the General Tso's (with request not too spicy) and the Sesame Chicken and extra pork egg rolls. First of the year we ordered our usual for take out and the General Tso's was ORANGE. Like Texas Pete Hot Sauce ORANGE. The egg rolls, while crunchy on the outside were soft, wet and smushy on the inside. Terrible. Just terrible. Costs 47$ or so, with tip, whenever I order so we're not talking chump change here. VERY disappointing. TWO BIG STRIKES. Don't know if they changed ownership but the food is definitely suffering right along with the patrons. One of the best Chinese Food restaurants in Charlotte. It's the closest that I've gotten to NY Chinese food since I moved to Charlotte 13 years ago. My only problem with this establishment and all the others that I have tried in the QC is their Lo Mein noodles are extra thick and chewy. I'm not sure what that's about in the South but it doesn't sit well with me. Lol. Anyways this place is clean, the ladies that run the front are nice and friendly. The bathroom is super clean which makes this an entire PLUS for me because if I walk in to your place of business before I order my food and the bathroom is disgusting, I will politely let them know and proceed to walk out. That goes for any sit down or take out restaurant. So kudos to Fortune Cookie for nailing their bathroom aesthetics!!!! I just got a quick carry out for lunch here at their newest location. The lunch lo mein is a good size for the price, I was pleased with it. The taste was delicious and it wasn't dry, it came with plenty of sauce-much to my delight. The new location is nice inside. It is spacious and comfortable. The girl who checked me out was talkative and friendly. When I placed the order on the phone, she was helpful with questions I asked. Parking is easy, it's in a strip mall. Service was very fast for lunch hour business. The workers were friendly and pleasant and the restaurant appeared to be clean. I ordered sesame chicken to go. I thought the price was fair and the portion size was good. However, what they referred to as fried rice was bland and there was nothing in it. After looking back over the menu, I realize you have to ask for pork or chicken or veggies or egg or whatever - and pay extra for it, so now I understand why the price seemed to be low for what I ordered. Although I order take-out or delivery from here almost once a week, I really don't know much about the menu or the service inside Fortune Cookie. I CAN say that every time I've ordered delivery or take-out, my order has always been correct and I have always received my food in a timely manner. I always get the same thing - Sesame Chicken with fried Rice ($9.55). I've had their white rice and to me, it just lacks flavor, so I always go with the fried rice. The Sesame Chicken always comes with a plethora of chicken, drenched in their sweet and yummy sesame sauce. The chicken is always good, but never great - as sometimes the chicken can be a little dry and chewy as if its been cooking too long, but this is the exception and not the norm at Fortune Cookie. For me, its hard to find a decent Chinese spot that my stomach and mind both feel comfortable indulging in without worry of sickness or health code violations. With Fortune Cookie however, I think my mind and tummy can rest easy knowing I've found the perfect combination of quality food at an affordable price. read more

It's been a while since I've reviewed a place on Yelp but I feel inclined to do so because of the terrible reviews of Fortune Cookie. I want to share of my recent positive experience to level the review field. Positives: -The Crab Rangoon was the best that I've ever had from this kind of caliber of a Chinese restaurant ( meaning it's not buddakan in Nyc but just your average, city/town Chinese restaurant) they were crispy, creamy and very good!!! -the sesame chicken sauce was very good (but unfortunately there wasn't enough sauce) there was a little at the bottom of the container and I tried to sponge up as much as I could. I would definitely order again and just ask for extra sauce. -the beef and broccoli was pretty good. It's not the best but flavorful and a good portion. -delivery was within 35 minutes from the time I ordered online to door. -the sweet little man that delivered my food stole my heart. Very nice service! Cons: -definitely the lack of sauce as mentioned above on the sesame chicken so therefor the chicken seemed a bit dry and lacked but I would definitely order again and just ask for extra sauce. Overall I was very happy with the food, service and delivery time! Had it before and it was okay. There isn't much high quality Chinese in Charlotte. Was craving Chinese food and got this delivered through postmates yesterday. I hate to be negative but it was not good at all. Ate some due to my craving and hunger but threw the rest away. General Tsos the meat was rubbery and the flavor not great. Egg roll was very unenjoyable. Sounds odd but even the packaged duck sauce tasted like plastic (no idea why as this is prepackaged and duck sauce is duck sauce). The steamed chicken and mixed veggies that I got was actually very well prepared and tasty. They served it with a bowl of warm soy sauce. It looked like soy sauce soup! The serving portion was huge and clearly enough for two meals. So, here's the deal: I guess I prefer restaurants with regular plates and glasses versus styrofoam. I guess I prefer having a server take my order, versus going to a little counter to order. My friend, Kathleen, pointed out that the styrofoam keeps the food costs low. I pointed out that i would have gladly paid the difference PLUS my way would be better for the environment. She pointed out that the diverse crowd in the restaurant probably wouldn't be able to afford eating here if there were plates and glasses. Maybe she's right on that one, but I still like real dishes. It was fairly nice inside and the food came out fairly quickly but, I found the quality of the food to be quite a few steps less than from the original office. The menu has a wide variety of combinations. I went with the Sweet and Sour Chicken and paid a modest upcharge for pork fried rice as the accompaniment. The rice was awesome with the roast pork bordered with the red glaze so common in the Northeast but increasingly rare elsewhere. There was a nice smokey flavor as well. The Chicken which I ate without the sauce was crisp on the outside and tender inside. Nice! Ordered takeout through Postmates but when the confirmation came through saw it was for wrong Restaurant. I called within .30 seconds and canceled the order and asked could they make sure to cancel the order so I would get a refund. The man there said they don't get paid by postmates they just make the food????? I called back and said that there is no way you make food and have me pick it up for free and that I know they get the money from postmates. Needless to say the lady manager hung the phone up and said I had to call postmates. I went to the correct location on S Tryon and ordered the food there and while sitting there I get a notification thanking me for picking up my food at the location that I canceled my order. So basically they told postmates I picked the food up and collected the money anyway. I had no idea what postmates was and thought the website used it to order since the price was the same. AVOID THIS ESTABLISHMENT AT ALL COSTS! On September 5, 2022, my family and I placed orders for three combination plates, a Crab Rangoon order, an order of egg drop soup, an additional order of fried noodles, and six egg rolls. When we got home, we discovered the egg rolls were missing, the rice was undercooked, and the shrimp was also undercooked. We called right away and went back to the restaurant to ask about the food. Even though the business closed at 9 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, no one was there when we arrived at 9:23 p.m. On September 6, 2022, we contacted and spoke with the manager (a gentleman with no given name), who said that undercooked rice was typical and that no refund could be given, but that we could still get the six egg rolls. When we complained about the undercooked rice and shrimp that came with the missing food, we were told that the only thing that could be done was to replace the egg rolls. When we asked to speak with the owner, we were told that he was out of the building and that he would not be returning. We have spent thousands of dollars at this restaurant over the years, and we have told others that it serves the best Chinese food. Following this incident, I strongly suggest all customers, friends, and family to AVOID THIS ESTABLISHMENT! They don't value their patrons' loyalty. Nobody wants to spend money on a subpar service. Legal actions are next because we are on the way to the hospital! read more
