I am local and would love to support a local family owned businesses. I searched and this place came up with 4.2 Stars. I ordered their signature ramen with pork but I was shocked when I received the dish. It looked like egg noodles wonton soup with bbq pork, they put spinach and an over-cooked egg inside the bowl. It tastes like a sweet veggie broth and the pork smells horrible. A friend of mine told me to try this place because I love ramen. I tried to call but the line was busy everytime. I arrived and they asked if I called in a order. I told them I had an issue getting through and they were surprised and tried to prove their line was not busy, as if I wasn't being truthful. They let me order my food and I had to wait about 15 minutes. It came out and I proceeded to pay. The lady took my payment with and attitude and walked away hastily. We are locals and love visiting Burke Fortune House. We order sushi only here. The food is always as expected - TASTY! - and prices are reasonable. What we especially love is that we are always treated as though we are old friends even though we moved to the neighborhood only a year and a half ago. (We don't dine out a ton, so this is a big deal.) Nice to see a staff so accommodating of families with children, too. The sushi chef once brought my kiddo a sample of an item she might not have otherwise tried... and she loved it! He also took the time to show her how to use chopsticks. It was really a cute moment. I would describe the ambiance as simple and clean. We are always pleased with our experience. Aaaaaand now I want sushi for lunch! Important note: We did start ordering from BFH during the pandemic, when we lived in a nearby neighborhood, so we knew their food was good and we're so grateful they remained open! I have to admit that I was skeptical of this place when I first started to eat sushi. I remember trying it early on in my sushi odyssey, back when I was first starting to embrace it, and thought it was alright. I think I had a simple bento box or something. My friends had always raved about this place and so my girlfriend and I decided to give it a go. I immediately realized that I HAD MADE A HUGE MISTAKE NOT COMING HERE SOONER. This place is hard to beat. Firstly, the size of the sushi rolls are huge when compared to other such places. I always have to intentionally order less sushi when I come here since you get so much more for your buck. Secondly, the establishment has that very elegant local vibe. It knows what it is and lives up to that style. Nothing super flashy, instead they focus on the quality of the food AND IT SHOWS. Lastly, the customer service is outstanding. I believe there is really only one sushi chef who I also assume to be the owner of the establishment. It is obvious that the people who work here are very close-knit and either family/friends. However, the chef/assumed owner is ALWAYS there and ALWAYS has such a bright and inclusive attitude. He is the icing on the cake. It might be because my gf and I go there late at night when there are less customers, but he always strikes up a short yet meaningful conversation about the food. Last time he suggested that we try the tamago right after he cooks it, apparently its so much better when its hot. The only criticism I have is the location could be a bit cleaner. Sometimes I have had tables that are just a tad sticky and last time I went in, the waitress poured me water and it was all cloudy and filmy. I think that was simply because it was hot when she got it and it just had that cloudiness that comes from that. It cleared up after about a minute or two, but made me obviously not want to drink it. So if they tightened up the environment a tad, like with cleanliness, this would be a 10/10 for me. I still give it 5 stars, but perhaps a 8/10 because of my concerns. Why did I wait so long to write a review? We come here monthly if not more frequently!! I can't personally attest to the sushi as I'm not a fan or seafood, but my wife really enjoys it and it's much closer than going to Annandale or Alexandria; so added bonus!! I always get the oyakadon and it reminds me of Home! The service here is incredible; it's family owned and the server knows most people by name (something we love about Burke). My wife loves the super salmon roll and a few other rolls here but she's never had anything she didn't like. If you're looking for a sushi fix and near Burke; this is the spot for you!! read more

Their sushi is the real deal, been going here for years with my family whenever we're in Burke and they just get it. The sushi roll is fresh salmon and taste delicious, same for the shrimp roll as well. Their spicy tuna which is the main roll I get has a good kick as well as a lot of tuna on the top which is another add bonus. I once got their chicken ramen just to try it and that was the best ramen I think I've ever had. First time ever trying ramen other than at home packets but that stuff was really good. Very authentic, okay every roll i've tried is delicious. My favorite roll thus far is the Dynamite roll, its deep fried with shrimp, avocado, and cream cheese inside. I absolutely adore this place. It's a small family owned restaurant. The staff are very interactive and friendly to every customer. Everything I've had there so far has been beyond amazing! Their specialty rolls are very large but made well. I have been a fan of the Fuji roll and the volcano roll. The crab wontons and the fried squid are also very yummy appetizers. This place is FILTHY, DINGY, DIRTY and needs a health dept. inspection. When I approached their front door that obviously needed cleaning, it was a clue to what was inside. A power washer could do a dream job here. The menu - filthy too. but it was after 2PM and I was really hungry. No one in sight to serve me. Finally the sushi chef came out from behind the counter and took my order. No pictures. A bento box with undercooked vegetable tempura, sashimi was slabs, not slices of fish. The soy sauce bottle was filthy and had less than an ounce left in the bottle. It looks like the owners are just post-covid- weary and very tired. Not taking care of the business. I recommend Ariake (closes at 2:30PM at lunch) or Sushi Prince (closed on Monday). read more

We ordered a large platter last weekend for my mom's birthday dinner. We were impressed with the variety of rolls (dragon roll, rainbow roll, spicy tuna roll, etc etc. if you are fan of unagi, there's good amount of sushi, rolls) as well as very thick cuts of fresh sashimi. Only drawback was the amount of rice in nigiris but overall enjoyed it! This platter was $132 but they did inform us that they were going to start raising prices this week :( I don't think the price increase will stop us from ordering from them again though! read more

Came here for a quick lunch just to get something in our stomachs since we haven't ate all day and we were also in the area. My bf and I happened to be the only people in the restaurant at the time so the service was fast and the owners were super nice and friendly. We ordered 3 rolls and an appetizer that was good enough for the both of us and the right amount of food. I do like the fact that the chef puts the filling on top of the sushi rolls as a display to give you an idea of whats inside the roll and it was delicious. We also got a yami yami roll that was just as delicious as well. Overall great place to get a quick bite to eat if you're in the mood for sushi and you wont be disappointed by the service. read more

Out of pity for my uncultured brethren and sistren, I will walk you through why you should stay as far away from Burke's Fortune House as humanly possible. 1. The nigiri had a SEVERE lack of freshness and revolting taste - to the point where I pondered if I should get tested for contracting any parasites. 2. I ordered a rainbow roll but was given a California roll. I really would've raised hell in Fortune House if I had been charged extra since the rainbow roll (that I didn't receive) costs more. 3. I had to ASK for soy sauce. That is the most basic element of a sushi meal. What in the world? 4. About an hour after finishing my mediocre meal, I have a headache (please pray for me). Heed my warning: STAY AWAY If you're ready for quality sushi - give Matsui and Osaka (both in the Kingstowne area) a good look. My kid brother's historically a picky eater, and the last minute babysitting request left me uncertain if my culinary skills could produce something he'd eat. So just to be sure I decided to take him out to lunch before making him dinner. Found parking a few rows away amongst the frenetic crush of weekend Walmart shoppers. Fortune house is a small establishment with bright, pleasantly generic Asiatic decor, and a few unexpected touches (a sushi t-shirt tacked to the wall, a thank you note from a fan). Place was empty on the Saturday afternoon we rolled in, though a regular and her friend passed through and the lady's attitude warmed up significantly while they were there. Minor pet peeve, I don't think you should reveal such a huge difference in service. Disregarding it since it was probably hard to be more discreet in that kind of space when we were eating at the counter. Seemed like our server's husband was the sushi chef, and to his credit he was pretty committed to giving us an artfully presented tray. Nigiri was good. Almost perfect cuts, size criticism aside. Rufor's spicy salmon roll was indeed heavy on the mayo, but otherwise decent. I supplemented his tentative order with a 007 roll after skimming the other reviews, since a growing boy should eat more. I'm not usually a fan of rainbow-style rolls but it was pretty yummy. Three and a half stars. Still a bit wowed at finding this odd little hole in the wall in Burke suburbia. Decent sushi at reasonable value, though cuts are on the small side. Not destination dining by any means, but a convenient place if you live in the area and want the closest to quality sushi available in the boonies without driving at least another half hour. I don't know why some restaurants don't go by the name on the order, rather than what I actually ordered. Aren't they making lots of orders that is the same thing that I ordered, so how would they know which one is mine based off my order rather than just reading off my name? Also my family has been going there for a long time and I have to say they cannot upgrade any thing to a Bento box how cool is that! they will treat you like family even though there is one or two waiters do not be hesitant to come to big appetite. Just moved to the Burke area and I was hoping to find my go to sushi restaurant here. Service: I felt like the waitress kept trying to rush us to order and eat. I was fine when they rushed us after we ate since it was getting busy but the service definitely could have been handled better. Food: The salad that came with our meal was doused in dressing. We ordered the spicy tuna, spicy scallop roll, rainbow roll, and chirashi bowl. Sushi rice in the chirashi bowl tasted like it had too much rice vinegar. Pickled radish was too sweet. All the rolls were way way too saucy and all of them fell apart as I was picking them up. Sashimi was just ok. Literally almost all the chef's special rolls had cream cheese in them. I get that it's popular to put cream cheese in rolls but maybe have some options without it other than cooked eel and imitation crab. The friend I was dining with can't have dairy. Maybe the nigiri is better, but I probably won't come back just to try it. I'll stick to my usual place in Centreville even though it's now a 25 minute drive from me. read more

They got alot of take outs -- so, eating in sometimes can take long. Stopped by here for a lunch break from work. I ordered an avocado roll and spicy tuna roll. My total came to $12. Pretty standard rolls. The fish in my spicy tuna roll tasted fresh enough. Nothing extraordinary, but definitely cured my sushi craving. Interestingly they put excess spicy tuna on top of the spicy tuna rolls themselves. I haven't really seen this done before. Fortune House is a wonderful little restaurant tucked away in Burke. I am Asian for reference, so I know my sushi, and my friend is the sushi scientist. We received a warm greeting upon entrance, and we were immediately surprised at the selection here. There are all kinds of entrees for those who don't like raw sushi, but there's also many authentic quality sushi rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. The fatty tuna(Toro) is delectable, and well worth the price. The staff was friendly and often made conversation with us, and combined with great food, is a great dining experience.
