I'm glad I gave Fortune Palace some time to settle into the neighborhood and get all their kinks sorted out before trying their dim sum. My friends gave them poor reviews regarding their service and food quality, so I was hesitant to come here, but I finally gave in last weekend. They're slightly less busy than my go-to spots near 8th Ave, so I was pretty happy about that. Service was quick and friendly, contrary to what I've heard about slow service. They had some interesting dim sum dishes that I haven't seen elsewhere, such as red rice noodles with crispy fried shrimp inside. It was so good! Also tried some Chinese pork ball covered with sticky rice; I wouldn't get it again but don't regret trying. Usually, if a restaurant has good egg tarts, their food must be pretty up there. I can confirm that their egg tarts are as yummy as they look. The eatery had a good amount of offerings around 1:30 pm - surprising! My friends and I sat here for a long time, so long that the workers were having their lunch right next to our table. Impressively, no one kicked us out or hinted at us to leave. I'd definitely come here for brunch again. I came here last fall for dinner, and the food was decent. Some presentation was off but tasted fine, like the e-fu mushroom noodle dish looked dull but tasted like any other I've had! read more

I used to go to sunset park for dim sum but I'm so happy that fortune palace opened up! Boasting a lot of variety in dim sum to very friendly cart ladies, I now don't have to commute and wait those notoriously long wait times. Dim sum is flavorful and doesn't have too much MSG. My favorites here are the shu mai which are pretty sizable and their bean curd rolls. Their steamed and baked pastries selection is also pretty extensive including golden yolk buns, durian, and black sesame treats. Restaurant is clean given how newly opened they are. read more

I was prepared to have the middest food of my life from the reviews. But nah, I had worse dim sum in the area. The place looked like it used to be a concert venue with how big it was. There was a huge TV screen paying for its rent with the most random yet entertaining ads. I also love the touch of accessible bathrooms for the seniors. A dish started at $4 for the smallest dish. The dim sum was not the best, but it also wasn't bad either. I just wish the portion size was bigger. They had a good selection, with even some unconventional ones, like piggy buns and pineapple bun muffins. My favorite has to be the Mochi Buns, which had a great sweet chew with a savory scallion taste to it! Came here for dim sum and dinner. It wasn't much of a wait for a table for dim sum on a weekends since this place is huge! I love that this place is so new and clean. Dim sum was kind of expensive. For dinner, some dishes were a hit and some were misses. I do recommend the soft shell crab with fried sticky rice. This was so good and not to mention there were probably like 6 crabs in there for the price of $28.99. Love that I can eat crabs without being messy. Snow pea shoots with garlic- this was good. Shrimp with walnut- shrimp was not crunchy a bit soggy. The beef cubes with asparagus was not good, it actually came cold. Portion sizes were quite big. Waiters were all so nice and attentive. Atmosphere: 4 I absolutely love the super high ceilings of the restaurant. It is giving traditional Chinese dim sum restaurant vibes that I became familiar with growing up. Not many of these types of restaurants are around in Brooklyn nowadays. It's light and airy inside and the tables are adequately spaced so that it doesn't feel crowded. There is a ton on the menu and it could be quite overwhelming to look at. There is a lot to choose from. Also be aware that there may be some mis-translations on the menu. Mis-translations being that what you're used to seeing on the English description of the food might be different that other restaurants and different than what's written in Chinese. Since we drove in from New Jersey to have dinner with my mom, we appreciate the valet parking. For $5, it would be around the same amount if we had parked at a street meter. Except, this is way more convenient especially on a cold day! Service: 5 We came on a Monday evening, so there weren't many people. The service was good. The waiters were on top of it and we got chatting with our waiter a ton. He recommended a Chinese partridge soup for me since I was coughing and my throat was hurting. Also, when the order for Chinese Broccoli came out different than what I had imagined in my mind, they were quick to correct it and then we all found out the cause of it being from the menu. On that particular dish, I wanted Chinese Broccoli stir fried with garlic sauce. This is a common dish in all Chinese restaurants and they all describe it in English the same way. However, the Chinese on that particular dish says "western broccoli" and it did come with garlic sauce, but it was a Sichuan garlic sauce which was very different. It also came in a medley of other vegetables. Those are two very different dishes. Food: 5 The food is delicious. Wok chi is present in the dishes, and I can tell that they didn't skimp on the ingredients. The dishes come out in large portions so you are definitely getting your money's worth. Of course, they are meant to be shared amongst the family, but we still had a ton left over that we are still eating days after. I appreciate that the food isn't overly salted while still maintaining complex flavors. Overall, I would totally go there again. My mom is already thinking we can come by for dim sum next time. Came here for dim sum with family. Wow, this place was packed, waited almost an hour for the table. Since we do have a big party, if you go with 2 to 4 ppl it should be quick, but will be sharing table with other strangers. Since we have 10 people, it will takes a while to get a whole table. Dim sum was great, lots of different selection. They got good flavor and very tasty. Since it was lunch time, we decided to order two dishes from the kitchen to see if they are as good as the dim sum. We order the stir fry beef chow fun & a supreme soy sauce fried noodles. The beef chow fun is below average. It has no 'wok hay' and there's no color of it. Looks like they didn't put any dark soy sauce on it, and it was blend no taste at all. I came here early during the holiday weekend to check out the newly opened Fortune Palace. The waiting area is quite small so lots of patrons spilled out onto the steps and at some points, you do need to fight your way in like a salmon swimming upriver on Nat Geo. I think I waited about 45min for a table for 2. The restaurant space is massive and there is a giant movie theater sized screen projecting the news in the background as well-- I have no doubt this will be a popular choice for a banquet hall in the near future. The dim sum was painfully average. Some notes on the dishes I ordered: -Chiu chow fun gor (one of my favorites) had lackluster pleating and looked like it came from a bakery. They had a bit of celery and parsley in the filling, which added a little bite. -Steamed fish balls were well seasoned but lacked any fish taste. -Piggy custard buns had a delicious milky-forward custard but the bun to custard ratio was ludicrous. The pigs were also very clumsily decorated as one of them had upside down ears. -Steamed bean curd rolls were rolled very loosely, so the filling ended up spilling out all over my plate when I bit into it. They contained napa cabbage, whole pieces of shrimp, and mushrooms. I would have liked some bamboo for crunch as well. Overall, a mediocre dim sum service that I will not be returning for anytime soon. I was also sweating while I was dining here so I really hope they turn up the A/C. read more

What's cool about this place is that it's huge. Service was good also. The place appears to be clean. Very spacious and it looks nice. Food wise, we came here for dimsum. I don't think I enjoyed it very much, they were OK, but I think we can find better tasting dimsum not far away. I just felt like most of the food were not as flavorful as I'd like. The Cha siew bao (roast pork bun), I felt like the bun part can be softer. If I have friends/family that wants to come here, I wouldn't mind. read more

The establishment is very spacious (very high ceilings too), well lit and pretty clean (compared to other Cantonese Dim/sum, large banquet hall type restaurants I have been to). All staff members we interacted with were very pleasant and helpful. Negatives: The oversized LED billboard at the back of the restaurant; thank God I was seated facing away from it. I dunno if they have another bathroom upstairs (I saw many people come down some stairs; maybe there's more seating up there?) but the men's room had 4 urinals + 2 stalls to its one sink and no paper towels. Food was OK, but the Shrimp dumplings fell apart when you try to pick them up and the beef steam rice rolls were subpar (the filling felt like reconstituted meat and the rice roll had sections that were hardened). Pleasantly surprised by the dim sum this past saturday. The portions were generous and tasty. Although not all the dishes we ordered are shown in the photos, the variety of dishes were lacking in my opinion. We might have missed the dessert and not-hot food carts that would have rounded out the meal nicely. Otherwise, the waiters were really attentive to our tea, clearing dishes and helping us retrieve food we wanted. The noodles and fried rice dish we ordered were good but not great and came out timely which was good for our big group. Can't wait for the karaoke to be functional in the private rooms. Please read if you're considering hosting an event here. This review is strictly based off the customer service of the manager in charge on Tuesday night 4/22. We previously paid a $500 deposit to hold our wedding date in November but realized the expected number of tables we have exceed the capacity at Fortune Palace. We decided to use the $500 as credit for our dinner tonight which is stated as possible on the receipt & the manager that assisted us previously. Upon paying, the manager this night gave us trouble. He said because it was a different manager that signed off on our deposit, he was unable to proceed with using the $500 as credit, even though this policy was stated on the receipt. He told us that the manager that helped us needed to be there in order for us to use it as credit but he was on vacation. This is unreasonable because that would be implying that if the manager that previously assisted us is no longer working here, then we would not be able to use the credit when the written receipt states otherwise. The manager wanted us to pay cash for the meal which we were okay with doing if he could provide a written note stating that they would refund the $500 credit the next time we come. Unfortunately he refused to do that and his only reasoning was that he did not sign off on the credit therefore it cannot be used. This is a bad representation of a business as a policy should be held to the same standard by all managers. After finally allowing us to use our credit, the manager made a rude hand gesture and mumbled something in cantonese under his breath & walked away in the middle of the conversation. He assumed we did not speak cantonese because we were speaking mandarin the whole time. We were the last customers of the night and he believe he could get away with this because no other customers were there. A business policy cannot change depending on the manager available especially if you have a written policy on the receipt. Take this as a warning for anyone considering to pay a deposit for any events here. read more

New dimsum restaurant in what used to be Party City on 20th ave. The interior is modern and spacious and the staff were attentive. I'm rarely impressed by dimsum dishes but the ones that we ordered here exceeded my expectations. We did not see siu mai in any of the carts though, which was very odd considering it's the quintessential dimsum item. Nothing out of the ordinary either. Mostly dishes that you can find at other dimsum restaurants. Though I thoroughly enjoyed the dimsum that we got here, I will not be returning. Why? As we were getting ready to leave, we left the tip on the table as is customarily done and were about to make our way to the front desk with our stamp card to pay when a waiter quickly intercepted and said that he'll take care of the transaction for us. When he came back he just grabbed the tip off the table and started cleaning the table without giving us our change back. There was a brief moment of awkward eye contact between him and us as he's cleaning the table and as we're waiting for our change but alas, we realized that we're not getting it back when he quickly bounced after cleaning the table. We're not the type to make a scene out of being shortchanged a couple of bucks so we just left and considered it a small donation to the needy (and greedy). It's really sad because on too many occasions I've had perfectly fine dining experiences at Chinese restaurants ruined by greedy and obnoxious waiters. We had the prix fixe menu for 6, which included fish soup, seafood with macadamia, tofu with mushrooms, lamb with cumin, lobsters with scallions and gingers, fried flounder, and golden/silver fried rice. We enjoyed every dish. The restaurant is spacious with high ceiling and nicely decorated with taste. The service was attentive and friendly. The food was a hit or a miss. Most of the dim sum taste similar, the sui mai was the best, maybe because they have mushrooms which made it extra juicy. I would give this place a solid 3.5 stars. I came here on a weekend and it was packed. The wait is about an hour amd tables are rather close to the other. If you come here as a group of 3 or 4, it's the easiest to get a table as majority fits 4. There are 3 levels with tables on each floor. The ceilings are really high and felt really grand. Their women's bathroom is poorly designed where the corner bathroom is very spacious, while the others, not too much. The flush is also terrible, sometimes it feels as though not enough water comes out to flush everything away, whether it be 1 or 2. Now for the food, I chose the staple dim sum, siu mai, ha gao, chicken feet and beef noodle, to name a few. I feel the portion for some items are slightly more than what you'd get at other dim sum places, and slightly thicker in meat, ie. the beef noodles. They also have this red wrapped noodle dish that I absolutely loved, especially when fresh and can't be found elsewhere. We also ordered a stir fry noodle, and this was disappointing. There was no wok hay, and it was pretty flavorless. Definitely not coming for their kitchen entrees, but coming back for the dim sum. My family and I went to this place for Chinese new year day. The quality of the food was unfortunately lacking and low quality. One of things that anger me the most is the absurd price for the fish that was overcooked and bland. No hint of seasoning at all for the price of $173 dollar. Along with that, I found out the quality of the rib steak dish was so abysmal when compared to other customers that ordered the same dish. As if they took the same bone from a previous dish and reused it. The photo I took of our order when compared to online review: is a night and day differences. Ours was very thin and dried, as if they used sliced beef. Yet the other one was plump, juicy, and have colored. For about 9 dishes, we had to payed around $578 dollars for a crappy dinner. Plus we left a $115 dollars tip. Finally, they never bother telling us what the price of the dishes were. Just said "market price". I am writing to warn you about a waiter at Fortune Palace on 86th Street and 20th Ave, Brooklyn who pocketed the money and claimed that it is not enough when I paid in cash. I recently experienced this myself, and I want to make sure that others don't have the same experience. On September 27, which is yesterday, I went to Fortune Palace with my family a group of 8. We had a great meal. The meal came to $275, I paid $325, 16 of $20 and a $5. I left it on the tray with the bill. A waiter who never served our table came up and picked up the money and asked if change is needed, I told him no. However, as we were leaving, he stopped us holding a small piece of yellow Post It paper written 220 on it and said our cash was short. I was in shock and told him I counted the money 2 times and asked my daughter to count it again before we placed the money on the tray. Then he hid the Post It and changed his story and said that the tips was not enough that I only left $10 tips. We were shocked and confused. Which doesn't make sense. We told him we paid $325, and he let us counted the money there was only $305, which is $20 short. Eventually, we got tired of arguing with him and just gave him the extra $20. When I got home and thought about it more, the more it doesn't make sense as he first claimed the money was short with a Post It written $220 on it. Then claimed there is only $10 tips but there were $30 tips even with the shorted money. We all came up with the only answer is he was first trying to scam us for an extra $100 but when we said we counted 3 times, and he knew he won't be able to scam us he changed his story. I am sharing this story to warn others about this waiter. If you ever visit Fortune Palace, please be careful if you are paying with cash. Make sure to count your money in front of the waiter or have him count the money in front of you. read more

Granted, it must a been a soft or something but from the 1-2 hr wait times for dim sum & the terrible service, someone in management must be fired or go back to business school. First, it took forever for the food to come out (55 mins) Second, the fish was undercooked (literally sushi ) Third, we ordered a dish the waiter recommended to us (their short rib) but it never even make it to out of the freezer. We asked waited 5 times & we ended up cancelling it. The kicker? Occupancy wasn't even full. It was only 50% occupied. We even waited a good 20 minutes for our check. It's like they were using an abacus to calculate the bill. I do feel sorry for the staff as I heard them complaining about the long work hours & 6 day workweek. I feel more sorry for the aunties & uncles who have to wait 1-2 hours standing just for them to get a table at this place. Unless things change, I will never go back to this place. The food was decent. This is an incident that I want to give a heads up to everyone who wants to dine at this venue. I didn't realized the problem after I left the restaurant and my husband mentioned how expensive the bill was. We had few kids with us I was very distracted packing up to leave. They gave us a bill without any prices of any of the dishes we ordered. It was a blank pink bill with a number on it. I think we were comfortable at a Chinese venue in the neighborhood we grew up in. Also the fact that we are all Chinese and it was a hectic evening that it didn't occurred to us to ask to see the actual bill. We just paid it with 20 % tips total of 345 for 7 dishes and a soup. Large size Shrimp with mayo, sweet and sour pork chop, snow pea shot with broth, steak with asparagus, Yangzhou fried rice, pork ribs with taro, fish maw soup with crabmeats, fish and tofu casserole. We didn't even order any extravaganza seafood like lobster. If you average it, each dish would be around 38 dollars. Maybe that's how much the dishes cost but giving customers a blank bills and take advantage of their trust because it's a neighborhood eat. It's really not nice. The first time I tried to come on a weekend we waited 30 minutes for a large table and we were no where close to being called so we gave up. recently got lucky coming on a Thursday for lunch around 12:30P. the trick is to stand right next to the MC and watch the numbers get called like a hawk. If you're adept you'll also see who is calling available tables and for how many. It was just 2 of us so when I saw another waiter raise 2 fingers I jumped right in and said we're both here (in terms of attendance) and the MC sat us right away. I'm sure his head was spinning from the numbers ahead of us and he'd have to call down the list to see who responds. I definitely skipped the line for other pairs and 3's. we did have to share the table but we didn't mind. we tend to dine fast & furious anyway. we had the staple items: beef rice roll, ha gow, tripe, steamed spare ribs, phoenix claw. the overall consensus was nothing was all that tasty. everything felt diluted in some form and a bit bland. nonetheless it's a nice ambiance to be in a newer dimsum palace. can't say I'd be back to fight for a seat in the coming months. read more

And plenty of food carts running around which I enjoy, unlike the dimsum spot in Manhattan that removed them nowadays.
