My husband and I ate here for lunch today because we happen to be in the neighborhood. Boy, were we surprised. We ordered Live Crab with spicy garlic (soooo delicious), sweet and sour pork (so tender and crunchy), and pea sprouts that the server recommended. All dishes tasted amazing, portions were big, incredibly fresh, and the waiter was really nice. I'm now a fan of pea sprouts. I couldn't understand why the restaurant was so empty though... We were basically the only customers and it was a Saturday. We've eaten in Hong Kong, Los Angeles, and San Francisco, and this is the first Chinese restaurant we thoroughly enjoyed after moving to Washington. My husband and I are already looking forward to having left overs for dinner. One of Kent's hidden treasures. Their food is always prepared fresh, and flavorful. A few months ago, when I had a serious hunger for fried chicken, the local KFC actually refused to serve any chicken around 10:30 (half an hour before closing time). So I went to Fortune Seafood, and not only did they fill my order, but they stayed open 15 minutes past closing in order to make sure I was a satisfied customer. Their chicken wings, btw, should be called pterodactyl wings, my gawd, the only wings I know of that are larger, are turkey wings. KFC's chicken wings are barely the size of my thumb, Fortune Seafood's is about the size of my hand. read more

Ordered delivery and food showed up around the 45 minute wait I was told on the phone. The portions were huge and i may have received an extra order of clam soup, not sure if I paid for it. This was probably a miscommunication issue as their accents are strong. I know I asked for steamed rice at the end because he asked me how many servings and said two. Special egg foo young was huge and clam soup was great. I was so full I didn't try the hot pot but it's in the fridge. 4 stars if not for the ordering mishap. read more

I have just recently moved in and settled into the Kent area, coming from Seattle. With the international district being so far away, I did not want to drive all the way there for Chinese food. My family and I were craving so we were looking around on Yelp and saw Fortune Seafood. It was a 3.5 rating, meh, not bad so we decided to go try it. I went there with my two kids and my wife during lunch hours, around 1pm. Even though it was lunch time we still ordered from their dinner menu. We ordered the Honey Walnut Prawns, Beef Chow Fun, Pork Chop with Salt and Pepper, and the House Special Fried Rice. Let me tell you, their prawns were HUGE. I expected it to be small like the shrimp you'd see at the restaurants in Chinatown but man, these were big. They were also very tasty and had just the perfect amount of mayonnaise. The other entrees were very flavorful as well, nothing was too greasy or dry, but I would highly recommend the Honey Walnut Prawns to others. Overall, the food was great, and the waitress Anh was very friendly and helpful. The price wasn't too bad either, especially for the portion of the food we were getting. They even have free delivery depending on where you live in Kent! A bonus is they also have parking unlike in Chinatown so that definitely wouldn't be a problem. This is by far one of my favorite Chinese Restaurants...and it's not even in the ID! I will be coming back for sure. read more

first time ordering -- we ordered delivery and spent almost $50 ordered at 11:22a and had to call at 12:50p to ask what was going on. the lady who answered read the address wrong (which i do not understand because it was an online order -- i'm in Kent and they went to a house in auburn). the delivery driver came 10 minutes later to my office building and would not come up to bring it, so he suggested i meet him in the lobby. also, he did not bring enough money to give me all my change, he automatically received a tip because he only had a $5 and a few $1's. the food was luke warm - Mongolian beef was oily and our fried rice was flavorless. lesson learned, i will never order from here again. read more

Without a doubt, absolutely the best Chinese Seafood in all of South Puget Sound! It is located in an old strip mall on the East Hill of Kent and while the outside of the building does not look all that inviting, put that aside, enter the restaurant and you will be amazed at the menu selection. We visited for lunch and could not believe the lunch menu which offers 33 lunch specials, the majority of which cost $6.95, the honey walnut prawns were $8.95 and another 8 selections at $7.95. We opted for the $6.95 almond chicken and the $8.95 honey walnut prawns both of which were the best we have had anywhere and the servings are so generous it's doubtful one would have room for dinner in the evening. And speaking of dinner, there at least a couple hundred items on the menu. Definitely not your typical Chinese Restaurant and you're in for a real treat if you've never been here before. I told her what my order was, then asked my mom if she wanted anything for a SECOND & she said, "oh tell your mom to figure out what she wants and call me back!" The restaurant is under new management. The old owners basically screwed the new owners but thats ok. Under NEW management the customer service is 10x better. Food is not as greasy and still full of chinese people. This shows the food is good. HANDS DOWN I def recommend this place over the new place the old owners now have. I do not know if it is authentic or not, as I have never been to China, but I really don't find this food to be 4 star. Some of the dinnerware was not clean. When they brought the barbecue pork, it was covered in some honey like glaze that also covered the bottom of the dish. When the plate was slid across the table, it left a wake of sticky mess into which I stuck my arm. The deep fried prawns were doughy and not crisp, and the hot pot really did not appeal (it was not a pot that you placed meats into to cook them, but a simmering stew). The fried rice, however, was pretty good. The shellfish in the tank did not move in at least an hour. When we asked the waitress about it, said they were alive (I have my doubts). I think that if you have an Asian heritage, you might like this place. If you are looking for Americanized Chinese food, this is not that kind of meal. read more

this spot really is hit-and-miss for some reason.. the service is always great but some of the cooks really need to go back to cooking school or choose a different profession. with a name like fortune seafood you would think that they know how to cook something as simple as a deep-fried, battered prawn? sometimes they turn out perfect with a light, crisp batter, but they also frequently turn out like soggy corndogs with a really thick, heavy batter loaded with oil... the same thing happens with anything fried in batter like sweet and sour chicken-beef-pork or almond fried chicken or general tso's chicken. and their general tso's sauce is really bad, no flavor or spice at all, almost like ketchup. the vegetable dishes are always good however, so if you are vegetarian this is a good spot. the egg foo yung is always good. reading other reviews i also see a lot of similarities to what i have experienced but even though some of those reviews are quite old it seems as if the owners of this restaurant don't read them or just don't care. this spot used to be called south palace and the main attraction back then was the bar, but this spot has no bar so bad food is no excuse. read more

Yummm! Typical Chinese restaurant. Nothing fancy that'll blow your mind when you walk in. First time with my boyfriend and went again for my moms birthday last Thursday. Delicious both times. The waitress (who's probably the owner too) greeted us and said "long time no see", but it was our first time there haha. Anyways, don't let the place fool you. Food is AMAZING. It's too far of a drive for us to go to Seattle to eat Chinese food since we moved to Kent. This place, I randomly googled and thought "hey let's give it a shot". Come to find that they serve A LOT of different food. I was appalled. We ordered the congee, salt n pepper squid, honey walnut prawns, and fried rice. Oh also pea vine. Everything was delicious. I absolutely loved it. Was in a food coma. My parents loved it. They even sung happy birthday to my mom and let her wear a birthday crown and got a small slice of cheesecake along with it. It was cute but embarrassing at the time. I would recommend anyone living in the Kent area to try this place at least once. I ordered delivery and the lady seemed nice so I was looking forward to a good meal. I was extremely disappointed. My gyoza wasn't even crunchy one bit, it was more like a rubber that was hard to tear. The egg rolls were not good at all and pretty soggy. The orange chicken shouldn't even be allowed to be called that. It was just soggy chicken that had a bunch of red sauce piled on top. The one thing I was looking forward to was the broccoli beef which was too salty and the broccoli was a little too over cooked for my taste. The wonton soup I had was probably the only good thing I had but it was a small cup size and only had two small wontons in it. This is my first review on yelp, but I am doing it for this restaurant! My brother usually gets his food from here because he lives in kent. Our family went out to celebrate for my birthday and decided to go to this place because we are tired of going to chinatown because my brother lives far and parking sucks on a saturday night. I thought it was just another chinese restaurant, but they actually have some interesting food on the menu which I plan to try next time. We ordered honey walnut prawns, salted fish fried rice, fried chicken, garlic bok choy, eggplant with shrimp, another dish I do not know the name of, and free hot&sour soup. They were all very tasty! I can't really describe how they taste because it would take 5 pages, but I trust my taste bud. I'm just surprised that they do not get many customers. If this restaurant was in a better location then it would be a hot spot. Not just the food was great, but also the service! The owner (I believe) was very kind! Our family were the last customers and they played the birthday song and brought out cheesecake for me! I literally cried which was really embarrassing especially in public. Overall, I had a very memorable experience here and this is now our to go chinese restaurant! I really recommend this restaurant to anybody in the mood for some chinese food! Authentic Chinese foods for a reasonable price. Our family is very picky when it comes to Chinese food because of the widespread of fusion foods (ie. Chinese American, or Chinese Japanese). But this place has some dishes that taste just as authentic as those back home in China. The environment is clean and comfortable. The portion sizes are also pretty good. read more

My family and I used to come to fortune every other week and ordered the same food. Mongolian beef and Hong Kong style chow mein were our favorites. Today, we went and ordered the same foods to find out that the taste and texture are completely different. Both lack taste and quality. When we called them and asked why it isn't the way it was before, they apologized and gave us the same Mongolian beef for free. The problem was, it was the same food. When I pointed out that it was the same and described how it was a darker more firm texture, the worker told me that the one they gave us was better. In the end, we found out that they switched owners. The food isn't so good anymore. :( read more
