Ok I just moved to the area and drive by this place every day as it is located across the street. I notice there is usually always business no matter what time of day. I was on my way to my sister's house for dinner and wanted to bring an entree. I decided to give Fortune a try last night and went in to order takeout. First thing you'll notice upon entering the restaurant is a strong smell of tobacco stuck on the walls. Telltale sign that this place used to be a casino or club of some sort in the past. There's also a hookah bar right next door so I'm not sure if the smell continues to permeate through the building. The smell didn't bother me though, and the restaurant looked clean and well kept enough. While ordering I also noticed how extensive menu was. They have fresh live seafood tanks. I opted for an order of the orange chicken. When I got to my sister's house I was convinced they had given me sweet and sour chicken, so I called and asked. On the phone I told her I had just came in and ordered the orange chicken. I asked if she remembered me. She said 'oh yes of course, the extra napkins guy.' I am a messy eater. I always ask for extra napkins with my takeout food. Yes, ma'am I am the extra napkins guy. She explained that their orange chicken is blood red in color and has a distinct taste native to their region of China. This made sense. I see a number of reviews on here saying that their orange chicken doesn't taste or look like orange chicken. Well you can't go to NY and order pizza, and expect it to be the same as pizza from LA can you? Let's not be ignorant people. Let's enjoy our blood red chicken. It was delicious. I tried this place in Kent and was glad I did. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. The ladies there were attentive and there if you needed a refill or something else. I tried 2 dishes: Sweet and sour prawns and Egg foo young with beef. I ordered 2 because I'm a big guy and figured one wouldn't be enough. Wrong! I ended up taking most of one of the dishes home. Big portions and delicious tasting food and it was only a short wait for the food. And complimentary tea and fortune cookie. Definitely a place I will visit again! read more

this is the place my family goes for all its parties.... We always order the same thing.... chicken wings....awesome...if you like them hot, garlicky and spicy. Honey walnut prawns....covered in sweet mayo.... house chow mein with hong kong style e-mein, and stuffed tofu.... Now I don't really like tofu but this dish is fabulous.... The general's chicken is huge but not always "done right" so I can't recommend.... I ordered from here because I was looking to shake up my choice and try a new restaurant. We ordered the General Tso's Chicken, Szechuan Chicken, received 3 free Egg Rolls from a coupon, an entire bowl of Hot and Sour Soup, and 12 slices of Barbeque Pork. I was fairly disappointed with the results and won't be ordering from here again, detailed reasons below. Firstly, the barbeque pork was great. It was a fabulous starter, and was warmer, moist, flavorful, and the freshest cuts I've ever had, which was a great way to start our meal. My girlfriend loves hot and sour soup, and went for that first while I went for an egg roll. Egg roll was ok, honestly you have to be a world-class failure of a chef to mess up egg-rolls. My girlfriend, however, was incredibly disappointed by the hot and sour soup. She loves H&S soup, and something about this one was so unappealing for her we ended up giving it to the cat. Now that our appetizers were done, we went in for the main courses, only to be met with the same disappointment. My General Tso's chicken was soft, almost as if they had been fried--then halfway through frying they decided to steam it for the rest of the meal. To top off the dish, they flooded my entire to-go container with the sauce, which dripped out onto my floor many times since it was kept in an open aluminum bowl within a Styrofoam box rather than give it to me in a plastic, lidded, soup container like they apparently wanted to. My girlfriend's Szechuan chicken was given the same drowned style, and it made her food more a soup since her chunks of food were smaller, some had already drowned and were floating at the bottom of the Olympic swimming pool. By the time we had filled up and put the rest away with rice to soak up the remaining gallons of sauce, we vowed never to order from here again. The next night I used the leftovers with the sauce-soaked rice and it turned out decent. Would recommend you cook your fried meat so the outside doesn't fall apart from the actual meat. read more

Fortune Seafood has to be the best chinese restaurant in Kent, WA. I cant beleive Chopsticks has a better rating, thats just crazy! Anyways, I always order the same things: salt and pepper squid, salt and pepper pork chops, salt and pepper chicken wings, honey walnut prawns and the hong kong style house chow mein and its ALWAYS good - sometimes better at other times but I am never disappointed. I've tried all the common chinese food; beef and brocolli, sweet and sour park, fried rice, etc.. and even that is a little better their then most places. Don't always judge a book by it's cover. It may not look the best on the outside, but they'll sure fool you. My dad's co-workers actually told him about this place so this is where we ended up for dinner. Since my family doesn't get to order what we want to order when we go to Chinese restaurants with my grandma, my parents allowed us to order whatever we wanted. We ordered the fish maw with crab meat soup, honey walnut prawns, Peking duck, a jewel hot pot, orange beef, and I think that was it. The fish maw soup was great. They had huge chunks of fish maw and you could see the crab meat too. I wouldn't have minded the one with chicken either. The honey walnut prawns were huge! They were the size of shrimp tempura. Each of us managed to get 4. The Peking duck was a great size and plenty of meat to go around. I was glad to see it wasn't a plate full of bones like other places. The hot pot was very flavorful with all the veggies mixed with meat and seafood. I mainly went for the veggies. The orange beef could've been a little lighter on the sauce. It was heavily drenched. If it wasn't for the sauce, I probably would've enjoyed it more. All in all, the food was great and I can't really complain about anything other than the orange beef. Coming back? Great chinese food at a good price WITHOUT having to head to the ID! My family loves this place, we live in Renton and Kent so it saves us the gas of driving all the way to Chinatown. Selection is usual of what you'd find in other restaurants. I recommend the honey walnut prawns, salt and pepper pork chops(comes in a basket, with a lot!) They have a Japanese tofu dish that my mom absolutely adores. The servers are friendly and polite. read more

Don't judge a book by its cover. This place is in an old strip mall with a pawn shop and a dive bar as neighbors. There is also a bikini barista in the lot which I can't decide if that's a good or bad thing. Hmm, might have to investigate that one more. 90% of the time I go in here its nearly empty. The other 10% its packed - weird. The food is great; my favorite is the General Sao's Chicken. The chicken is done right, not dry. 7 bucks gets you soup, rice (sticky or fried), an entrée, and hot tea. They also deliver, wow! If you can't tell I really like this place. Since 90% of the time its slow, the staff is very attentive and polite. They don't know me by name, but know my face and what I like to eat. I think for the price this place is very tough to beat. Hong Kong style Chinese food. This is a great place for groups. They have an extensive menu, fresh seafood (like crawling around in the tank) and the service is excellent. Loads of parking in the run down mall and decent prices. I ordered the chow fun - fat egg noodles - and it was done well, let alone that they had it on the menu. If you read Mandarin, I bet you can get a few off menu items here - I haven't tried that (yet). They said that they have been there for three years. I think they do take out as well. My wife and I love this place for dates. If we go a little early, we have the luxury of being the only people in this quiet restaurant that's always clean and organized. The decor is outdated and mismatched in a lot of ways, and one of the kitchen workstations is visible from the seats, and not really in a good way, but that kind of stuff doesn't really matter to me. We always order one of the combination specials because you get an insane amount of stuff. Sweet & Sour Chicken, Crab Rangoon, choice of Soup (I like the egg flower), in addition to your choice of entrée. $10 for all that is nuts, and we always end up packing about half of it home for leftovers. I've seen that some people don't like the Rangoon, but we enjoy this crunchy, fried cream-cheese filled pocket. You don't really taste the crab, but I like it anyway, and my wife doesn't like crab so it's all good. The General Tso's chicken is yummy, but may catch some off guard. The sauce is similar to typical Generals' sauce, but it almost has a smoky southern barbecue flavor to it. It's not bad, but is not what I expect. I love the Broccoli Beef. It's so tender, and the portions are insanely generous. The only problem I've had here is that I ordered the Mongolian Beef once. Never again. A very heavy, salty sauce tastes like it was mixed straight from a packet and is totally gross. Other than that, this is easily my favorite Chinese place in the area. When I pulled up from the main street the only thought that came to mind was to turn around and go home, but since it was wasn't my call on restaurant and we already agreed to go so I felt obligated to attend. The food actually wasn't bad. For starters we had BBQ pork and egg rolls, both were kind of dry and the sweet and sour sauce had way too much corn starch in it, Westlake soup tasty, garlic crab was nicely prepared, seafood and chicken w/ mix vegetables was ok, peking duck and deep fried chicken was dry, and the chinese mushroom w/ bok choy was overcooked. After our meal we were served sliced oranges and fried bananas. I haven't seen the banana dish since I was a little boy so it was very nice to have some. If you're not in the International District and you wanted some traditional style cooking, I think this place should satisfy your cravings for the people on this side of town. read more

Best Chinese Food in Town! Yesterday evening I was craving some good Chinese food unfortunately my toddler was sleeping and I was not about to wake her up. Decided to go on Yelp and look at delivery options. Fortune seafood came up and after looking around reviews I decided to try it out ! This is my go to Chinese restaurant but I've called on several different days at different times and there phone was out of service or they were closed... My family orders delivery from this place, which is great when we don't feel like cooking or going out. We like their BBQ's..like roast duck and steamed chicken. Dining in is also great, but probably much better since everything is so hot and fresh. In general the food is pretty good, but I can't say it's always consistent. When I have cravings for hot and sour soup, this place doesn't always taste that great, so it's like playing Russian Roulette with their soup..LOL Maybe one day, you'll have a good bowl, and other days, it's just tasteless. I love their Beef Chow Fun noodles (dry style) where the soy sauce is "stuck" to the rice noodles. It has a lot of flavor, and their Sauteed Green beans with Pork. The green beens sometimes tends to be a bit too oily or salty...guess it depends on who is doing the cooking, and their fried chicken wings are so tasty and crispy. Their Honey Walnut Prawns aren't that great. I don't know why, but compared to Honey Court Restaurant, I don't think I would pay for Fortune's Honey Walnut Prawns since the taste quality is not really up there. I found out what made my husband and I sick specifically. There was undercooked pork in the chow mien. The restaurant now wants no communication with me, so I have reported them to the BBB, Health Inspector/Department, and a few other business complaint places. I've been here a couple times in the last month and each time it is the same. No change in scenery which is pretty drab with the old style light blue paint job and the food here is nothing to write home about. The location itself makes me feel unsafe as there is a dive bar right next door playing loud music which can be heard all the way in the parking lot and the clientele hanging outside isn't the savviest. Each time the only consistent item I have enjoyed are the black bean clams. They have that down pat as the sauce is great with the clams and by the end of the meal I just want more of them. We have also had crab both times and for some reason it has been a letdown. The crab shouldn't be deep fried which they have cooked the same way both times. It just doesn't have that crab taste once it is deep fried and taste kind of bland even though we added some hot spices this time around. The barbequed duck on the other hand was better this time plus we tried the barbequed pork for the first time and it wasn't bad even though I can tell some pieces seem to have been sitting around for awhile once it has that dark colored meat. Veggies here are seasoned nice and they have a good wok taste which I enjoy. Service here is pretty good as we constantly had our bone plates changed out very often and the hostess/server is always busy since she is the only one who is constantly working the front end of the restaurant. The restaurant stays busy with all the people ordering take-out or having it delivered which I don't see very often from Chinese places. I surely wouldn't come here if it I wasn't with my family as it is a kind of ghetto area and it is just a bit too far from where I live to come here on a consistent basis. New owner, as of today. And what chaos, even though there were 3 employees out front, and only 7 customers. And it used to be so good! We ordered family style dinner, and they brought us combinations. I tried to explain their mistake, but they didn't understand me...or pretended not to. Not a deal-breaker...but they did charge us for family style. By then, I just wanted out, though. Pretty awful food. My wife's chow mein was barely acceptable, and that was the best we got. Fried rice was bad, had a strange gummy texture to it. My General Tsao's chicken was truly horrible, and I'm used to eating that at below-average Chinese buffets. Maybe they'll get better. So since my last review, we've been back multiple times and its worth more than 3.5 stars that I initially have given. I should've updated but I didn't. Now I'm updating with our most recent visit with the new owners. They still offer the family style dinner that you may choose what you like which is a plus, still accommodating and friendly, another plus. The food is good and an "A" is given for effort. So the difference between the new and last owner would be the food and slight decoration/"update". We usually order the spare ribs that my husband loves BUT the new owners couldn't execute it the way like the last. The batter is different. It's not "bad" but not bomb like we're use to. Everything else is not bad. They appear to have tried to revamp the place by adding fake flowers around the walls.. A bit tacky in my opinion but we weren't there for that, we were there for the food. In the tank, there was a fish swimming upside down and I joked about how that fish should be half price since its not too "fresh" anymore. Complete with very small orange slices in the dish BROCCOLI BEEF: The broccoli was cooked to perfection. It was tender but with some crunch to it. The beef was just a bit overdone, but not enough that most people would notice. This also had a lot of oyster sauce which I love but some people may find overpowering. SCHECHUAN BEEF: The beef was perfectly tender, the sauce spot on, and the vegetables perfect, tender but with crunch. WONTON SOUP: Fresh, tasty, light. Perfect. SWEET AND SOUR CHICKEN: The breading was perfect and it was not mostly breading. PORK FRIED RICE, EGG ROLLS, CREAM CHEESE RANGOONS: These were all meh. Tastes like anything you could buy from the freezer section at your local supermarket. SWEET AND SOUR SOUP: I was not a fan. With a slew of ingredients, it still was rather tasteless.
