It's hard not to love some well made sushi, especially on 1/2 off Sundays. Here's the deal purchase any drink and all the rolls (not nigiri or sashimi) is 1/2 off. You can't take the food with you, but let's be real, you'd be disappointed in yourself if you weren't able to finish your rolls while you were there. It's a trendy environment which can get a little loud, but it's not excessive. Overall it's a really great option to get your downtown sushi fix. read more

So I have a bit of a problem. Now that I've discovered Forty Five's half priced sushi rolls on Sundays, there is no turning back! The inside has a cool vibe - you feel like you've been picked up and plopped into a sushi joint on Sunset in LA. I will say I think the prices on rolls are a little high without the discount, hence why I think I would only come here on Sundays in the future. With that being said, the rolls were delicious. I had the California roll and got a little crazy for my second roll and went with the Playboy. The thing came out wrapped in tin foil and on fire. It was spicy, creamy and just so dang good! Didn't have a drink on this particular visit, but definitely think this is a cool alternative to after work or even late night drinks and is a place I'll have to keep on my radar for that purpose. Yes, the sushi is good. Yes, the atmosphere is "exciting" however, I have only been here on Sundays for 1/3 priced sushi, and the wait for a table is insane (up to 90 minutes), and the wait staff while friendly could be more attentive. Having come from living in multiple cities on the west and Pacific northwest coast, I would consider myself a good judge of quality sushi. The quality of the sushi they serve is not fantastic, but it is pretty good for land-locked Indiana. Their miso soup is not too salty, and their pad Thai was not too peanuty (appropriate use of tamarind and fish sauce). If I am looking for sushi downtown and have some time, my default is 45 Degrees. During a weekday at normal price, probably a 3.5 star. On half-price sushi roll Sundays, madness ensues and all reason leaves my head - bringing it up to a solid 6 star value one day of the week. On one fateful Sunday a group of 4 friends chopsticked their way through 4 sets of standard rolls, 3 specialty rolls, and beers for ~$20 per person. Let me break that down- that's 16.5 sushi pieces each plus beer. Like I said, madness. I've only visited this restaurant once. We went on a Friday night for their Devour Downtown Menu. We had made reservations the day beforehand and we were seated at a hightop table for two just at the entrance to the restaurant. The location of our table made it unavailable for us to even appreciate the restaurant's modern decor and even worse large groups of people waiting for tables had to stand right next to ours. As far as the menu goes, the Spring Rolls were excellent! The teriyaki glaze drizzled on top was very flavorful and the wraps were tightly rolled and served on top of baby spring mix. Overall the four rolls were a pleasure to eat! However they are a little too messy to eat with your hands but we were forced to do so for lack of knives and an absent waiter. The second course on the Devour Downtown Menu was a salad, either their signature 45 degrees salad or the ginger salad. I had the ginger salad and while it was okay, it was nothing special. I usually only use half the salad dressing given to me at restaurants, but my salad barely had any dressing. On top of that, the salads were very small. I'd say my portion was less than a cup of mixed greens. My boyfriend did say he enjoyed the 45 degrees salad. We ordered the Rainbow Roll and the Thai Kiss. Both of the rolls were excellent tasting. However, I agree with other reviewers that the rolls could have been more tightly wrapped. The quality of fish on served on top of the Rainbow Roll was superb, and the Thai chili sauce on top of the Thai Kiss certainly had a kick! We both enjoyed the flavor combination. We also ordered martinis with our meal, the Key Lime Pie and the Wild Orchid. While both were great tasting, they were not very strong. Overall, I cannot see myself going back for a weekend dinner.Maybe I'll visit on Sundays for half-priced sushi, but otherwise the amount and quality of the food served for the price isn't worth it. I went to Forty Five Degrees for my 22 birthday and couldn't have asked for a better experience! The waitress was the perfect combination of attentive and scarce. She paid attention to what we needed, but didn't hover over us. The sushi was delicious! The 5 of us in our group each got a different roll and everyone was extremely pleased with their choices and it was the perfect amount of food! A group of us went to Forty Five Degrees this weekend for dinner. We went to have sushi but tried a few appetizers as well. As far as appetizers are concerned, we got the edamame, the spinach & artichoke dip, the calamari and some buffalo chicken egg rolls. All were good. I think the consensus was that the calamari was the best. Instead of usual deep fried calamari, this was pan seared in garlic & herbs and served with a spicy mayo dip. Very good! For dinner, we all had sushi. Definitely not the best sushi I've ever had but they had some creative rolls as well as the usual standard fare. Most of the fish seemed fresh with the exception of the red snapper and the spicy tuna rolls. I'd go back to check out the other items on the menu. They had A LOT of options which actually makes me question whether or not they are trying to do too much with their menu. I guess we'll see next time we check it out. read more

The sushi menu is fairly wide with some really great options. Sundays provide the same options but at half price. As I'm a big fan of spicy, sweet Thai sauce, the Thai Kiss will always be my favorite roll, but there are a wide variety of other rolls that I enjoy grabbing off of my friend's plates and ordering as a second option. For the non-sushi lovers, this place also has a wide number of non-Asian options to enjoy as well. As I'm a sushi-lover, I am unable to provide you with a review of these items as I have never tried anything from that menu. I doubt I will ever try anything from that menu as if I come here, it's for the sushi. The patio is a fun place to be on First Fridays during the summer. It is definitely among my favorite places to kick off First Friday, before heading over to the Art Bank and other nearby art studios. The place is a bit over-priced. The sushi rolls should all be priced a few dollars lower than they are and so I will likely make most of my visits here on Sundays. There are many other sushi restaurants in the city that are a much better bargain for the sushi quality. Thus it is better to consider the other attributes of this place, such as the atmosphere and great drink list, when making the decision of whether to come here. The drink menu here is fun and the design of the interior of this place is unique and modern. For these reasons, it's great place if you are looking for a chic location to eat a Playboy Roll. read more

Went with some friends and was able to walk out with a $3 tab, not common to get sushi for under $10! It's quite incredible. I cannot believe I haven't reviewed this place before! I'm not really sure why, but I'm pretty sure this is my favorite place in Indianapolis. Super friendly staff, a fun, cool, modern looking environment and great food. Sundays are the absolute best day to go with those half-priced sushi rolls, but make sure you're able to eat all of what you get on the count you can't take it out or get charged full price. In fact, I wanted to go so bad yesterday with my snuggle buddy, but he had the sniffles or something...idk. So, I didn't get to go. One of my favorites roll is the Mount Fuji, which is a shrimp sushi that they have stacked like a little mountain drizzled with volcano sauce. If you dip this one in soy sauce, I recommend going for the low sodium soy sauce as in the regular soy sauce adds almost a little too much saltiness with the roll. I think my absolute favorite is the Playboy roll. If there were an sushi version of a barbecue, it's this one. I don't mean it tastes like barbecue, but it has that feel as it comes out wrapped in foil and then they light it on fire and you sit there until the fire goes out. A few lessons I've learned from this one; is not to touch the foil as soon as the fire goes out, absolutely make sure the fire is out before trying to open it (it can be a little tricky) and do not order this if you're sitting out on the patio on a hot and humid summer evening. Unfortunately, I've made these goofy mistakes, but how else am I supposed to tell others what to watch out for if I didn't have these experiences, you know? It's also nice, because it is a bar, so you have to be 21 and over and don't have to worry about rowdy children in the place. But it's also not the kind of bar where I think you necessarily go to for a time of getting plastered, so most of the times you won't have to deal with rowdy drunk people either! They have some fun little drink specials on mojitos, spritzers, other fun fruity drinks, etc. Probably will go next Sunday, since I didn't get to go yesterday hopefully. We went to Forty Five Degrees for a Devour Downtown special and I was so happy we did! Two people for $35 is quite the deal. For one, when you walk into the restaurant, it looks like you're walking into a bar of the future. Bright, yet dim colors line the walls, there's modern furniture and tables littered throughout, and there is a vibe in the air that seems futuristic. I very much enjoyed it here! We started with an appetizer of the Spicy Yellowtail sushi roll. The eight-piece roll was made of yellowtail, scallions, spicy sauce, and cucumber and it was oh so delicious. I'm a huge fan of sushi and apparently Forty Five Degrees specializes in that. For my salad I ordered the Forty Degree salad made of field greens, feta cheese, toasted almonds, dried cranberries, and cranberry balsamic dressing. It was mighty good as well. And for my main course, I confidently ordered the stuffed tilapia! My of my, was this tilapia amazing. It was a properly portioned meal consisting of parmesan panko crusted tilapia stuffed with blue crab with a side of asparagus and basmati rice. What stood out to me the most, and what I essentially licked my plate clean for, was the spicy lobster sauce that covered the tilapia. I could have seriously drank the stuff. It was so yummy I could have died. Maybe not, but if I did, I hope I could reincarnate as the person who tests the sauce forever. read more

I've been here several times and they have a big variety of rolls so just about everyone should be able to find something they like. They have plenty of entrees that are not sushi. Mount Fuji was by far my favorite. I really liked the tempura and spicy mayo. The forty five was okay but nothing earth shattering. The playboy, one of their signature rolls that they light on fire, was awful. I could only eat a piece or two. I don't know what sauce combination they use on top, but it tastes funky and reminiscent of barbecue. I liked the idea of setting a roll on fire but the execution needs some work. read more

I like to call this place "sushi chic". It has a modern feel and the sushi is good too! If you're lucky you'll get to sit up in one of the comfy booths. I recommend the spider roll here- one of the best I've had in a while! There are also many dinner plates on the menu for a nice variety of options. Sitting here at 10:30pm when 12:00am is closing, we feel as though we are being kicked out. Half off sushi on Sunday's is prime, along with the drink specials for Mojitos, Bloody Mary, and Long Islands. As soon as you walk into the door, don't expect a welcome or a smile. When eating your food, expect for servers to want to clear plates that you are working on. Throughout each night, we feel the same. Half a plate of edamame and half a plate of sushi we are working on that is being bullied to be finished so that they can take it away from us. I could see FortyFive degrees being 5 star if they read their Yelp reviews, but I can understand the reputation that they hold to stand by the menu prices. We ended up waiting about 35 minutes for table, which wasn't a big deal since we weren't in a rush and the deal seemed worth the wait. We ended up ordering mojitos, a Philadelphia roll, an ultimate veggie roll, and an orange crush roll. The mojitos were $5 and were among a selection of drink specials. I would not recommend the veggie roll. The soy paper it was wrapped in was a major turn off. It was rubbery and tasteless. We loved the Orange Crush roll. I would highly recommend it. The best part - our entire bill 2 drinks, three roll was $30. We will be back! read more

Very good service-we arrived early, about 11:30, and they were just getting set up for lunch. Tomato jalapeno soup is the bomb-great flavor and very creative. Sushi was average, small portions of fish in a standard presentation. I wish I could write more on the sushi, but when I see small portions I can't really go more than average. It wasn't particularly flavorful fish either, and the nigiri was just sliced very thin. Nice vibe, kind of like an upscale diner feel. Waitress was terrific, and well worth the tip. Imagine if the Jetsons designed a restaurant and decided to serve pasta alongside sushi and, in effect, you have 45 degrees. Planted at the corner of mass ave and college is one of the most distinct-looking restaurants in Indianapolis for sure. It's essentially triangular-shaped and has this tomorrowland interior. You'll either find it jarring and kitschy or space-age cool. I personally like it. They have a diverse selection of entrees and I'll admit, I've only had a few pasta dishes but I had no complaints. Nothing special but nothing heinous either. The real draw is half-price sushi on Sundays. ANY sushi for half-price--tell me of a better deal in Indianapolis? Even my cheapskate friends make it here on Sundays as a result. The sushi selection is one of the best in Indy and although probably not authentic, it's still tasty. If you want a great martini, they have half-price martinis on Wednesdays when it becomes a club at night. Decent atmosphere but not my thing personally. I'd rather just grab a beer at a pub. The service has been consistently good for me and my girlfriend loves to ogle the waiters, even if they are mostly gay she seemed to appreciate that. Although I probably wouldn't come here outside of Wednesday and Sunday, 45 degrees offers a truly unique atmosphere that would certainly appeal to a specific clientele. Good martinis and decent sushi. They lean a little more towards the novelty side of rolls (there's even one your server sets on fire for you) but overall they are tasty. I just wish it had less of an ultra lounge feel inside and more of the fun mass ave vibe that the patio has outside. Miami vibe in the Midwest... I was getting ready to deploy overseas when I realized that my last dinner in the US just HAD to be sushi. Armed with a rental car and 2 friends, we headed here on a reccomendation in an attempt to satisfy what could be a year's worth of sushi cravings (and alcohol, too) The restaurant is called 45 degrees for a reason, it is at the corner of 2 streets (Mass Ave and N. College Ave). The entire inside of the restaurant is decked out like a cool Miami lounge with raised booths along the ceiling to floor windows and some seating for 4 at tables in the middle. The DJ is raised against the wall caddy to the bar and is spinning fun, but relatively loud music in the evenings. It was definitely a cool place to go to if you don't plan on trying to get to know someone over dinner - you definitely wouldn't hear the whole conversation. While we were mistaken to think this place was a classic sushi place, the fish was surprisingly fresh for a fusion restaurant =) We had a bunch of rolls and sashimi and an appetizer: Bacon Wrapped Sea Scallops - Wrapped with bacon, these jumbo scallops are served atop a basil pesto sauce and garnished with sun-dried tomato tortilla strips. - these were amazing. Although they only came with 4 or 5 (don't remember) the sauces were perfectly matched to this already perfect combo. The scallops were seared and the bacon was crispy Corona Roll - Tuna, jalapeno, avocado, cilantro, topped with white tuna and lime. This was one of their newer rolls, but it was amazing! The lime perfectly matched what was needed in this roll Zen - 8pc Yellowtail, jalapeno, cilantro, cucumbers, tobiko and ponzu sauce. Spicy, creamy to match the buttery taste of yellowtail with the crunch of cucumber and cilantro to add that extra savory/deep flavor..YUMM Island - 8pc Tuna, asparagus, tempura and jalapeno. Topped with white tuna, avocado, tobiko and eel sauce. - MMM give me anything with tempura in it and it taste great! Mount Fuji - (fc) 10pc Shrimp tempura, asparagus, spicy crab, cream cheese, tempura fried and topped with volcano sauce. ALSO very good. Looking for a hip and cool place to enjoy Sushi with friends - This is your spot. First let's start with the sushi - absolutely fantastic variety to choose from. Every roll that I have had at this place has been well prepared. Next let's move on to the atmosphere - nice clean look with a small outside dining area. The space is a bit tight on the inside and the tables are close but don't worry the crowd that normally frequents this spot are with friends and typically not bothered by the closeness of the tables. Sushi on Mass Ave in a swanky environment where mod disco meets Asian fusion food. I am going with 3 stars because it represents an average of my 4 stars and my dining partner's 2 stars. He barely ate anything and was not impressed. I, on the other hand, ate my half and most of his. One of the highlights of this place is that you can add a side salad or soup to any sushi order for only $2. woohoo! Salads for all! And they have really, really great salads! The sushi was what I'd expect in terms of freshness and taste, so they get a B+ for being above average. They had some roll combinations that I had not seen at any other sushi place, so they get an A+ for creativity. My dining partner was not impressed with the quality and felt the flavor combinations were too chaotic, like they were going for too many strong flavors competing in the same bite. He felt the flavor of the fish was lost inside a peanut-plum-soy sauce or jalapeno-pineapple-mayonnaise bomb. We sat at the bar and aside from the party crowd knocking me in the arm whenever they came to order their drinks, it was a positive experience because the servers were attentive and the food came out in the right order at the right time. Also, I could tell the 'tenders were not impressed by the party-goers bumping me in the arm and tried to subtly convince them to come around to another side of the bar to order. Much appreesh.
