I've been here a few times on Sunday afternoons. It's a nice, airy place to sit over a couple of cocktails, and they frequently have entertainment in the bar area. I'm not a huge fan of their menu, which is mostly Asian-fusion. They do have some great specials, though, which are much different than their regular menu, and anything else in the area. Their bartenders are fantastic: friendly and attentive. The management needs to keep their customers informed, though. The last time I was there was Father's Day, and after I sat down at 2pm, found out there was a very limited menu, and that they closed at 3pm, with the kitchen closing at 2:30. Several other people were blindsided by this information, and I think that a note should have been placed on their website and/or social media pages so guests could plan accordingly. read more

Such a cool little spot in the spunky little town. The storage building that used to be obviously a foundry. Adjacent to the river outdoor seating when weather permits. Very New England decor style with a hipster lien. A large group of us went for brunch. Everyone raved about the pork belly. They certainly know how to make a salad eggs Benedict. Went in for brunch yesterday with my fiance. We ordered truffle tots, hangover noodles, and a side of steak. Tots- amazing as always Hangover noodles- not a fan, definitely not what the entree used to be. it was swimming in a sauce like broth that was tasty but the entire bowl consisted pepper and onions and barely any noodles. Pretty bummed considering the price. Steak- cooked to perfection Staff- bartender, Andrew was great. Very attentive and personable with customers. The servers were running around but were very professional as well. Woman, in her 20's about I think was the manager kept coming out to the floor attempted to look busy but wasn't and didn't smile once. My first visit to the foundry I did not post a review as the waitress seemed unfamiliar with the menu and I did not want to make an initial judgment this evening we went there with a party of nine for my daughter's 15th birthday and I must say the food was outstanding however the service could be better there's no reason that food should come out so scattered I was the first want to order dinner in the last one to receive it I have my party was already done before I got mine desserts for something to be desired but overall with the food did come out it was spectacular read more

What a gem! I had the scallops and deviled eggs (it was not easy to choose, everything sounded good). Both dishes were delicious and plentiful. A lot of flavor and great textures. Cooked perfectly, whoever is in the kitchen can be proud of the meal thoroughly enjoyed today. That was the best dinner we've had in a really long time! The curry is out of this world good! We have a somewhat picky eater, and she ate all of my curry! The braised short rib was perfection! The first time we visited this restaurant it was summer and we were able to sit out on the back deck, which I think is a major high point. The deck is lovely and it overlooks the river and quaint downtown Sandy Hook. We also really enjoyed our food, particularly my husband, we got the corned beef. It was so tender, juicy and just piled high on his sandwich. The next time we came it was winter so we sat indoors. The decor is nice, but the private room to the side was closed off. I'm not sure if they save it for private functions or just open it when busy, but our party of seven sat in the bar area. This time we had our kids with us and we found the kid menu prices a bit much given what the kids received. I got the French dip and my husband again got the corned beef. Both dishes were fantastic. I will say another member of our party got the taco salad bowl and had some stomach issues later that evening. Service was mediocre and the prices are a bit high, but food overall is good. I was curious to comeback to this restaurant after I heard it was manage by a new team (new ownership). Decor is warm and nice. Pleasant atmosphere. Overall it was a decent experience, the food was ok but nothing more. I ordered the Breakfast burger and it was interesting but was disappointed by the potatoes... it could it be frozen dish. We've ordered children menu and it was absolutely horrible. Clearly they don't pay attention to the kids menu. Last but not least, when I got the check I said to myself Wow that much!!! Wow. Had terrible service at Toro, so left before ordering and SOOOO thankful for the bad service so we accidentally ended up here. Had mussels as an appetizer. I don't even know where to begin... my wife and I were driving from WV to see my parents in Rhode Island. Every time we try to find a nice restaurant to break up the drive. Previously living in Southbery, I had eaten at the Foundry before but heard it had new owners and wanted to try it again. Long story short, our one year old son was sick, the weather was terrible and it was the drive from hell, but stopping at the Foundry made the entire trip! First off, the ambiance of the place was amazing. You could either sit in a quiet dinning room, outside on a beautiful patio or near the bar. We sat inside due to the rain, but can't wait to go back and experience the patio. The entire place, from the location to the rustic tables were gorgeous and really made it a fun place to be. We started off with the dumplings, which were recommended by the server and they were outstanding. (We didn't know where to start due to their amazing and unique menu, carrying anything from burgers to Asian styled sandwiches) Having previously lived in Asia, I was astonished by their authenticity and flavor. My wife doesn't try a lot of new things but I seriously thought she was going to drink the sauce out of the bowl. For lunch I had the Bin Sahn sandwich and my wife had the chili. Both were large servings and very reasonably priced, not to mention absolutely delicious! The food was the restaurants best quality, but what really made our experience even more special was the service. Our waiter was informative, efficient and very kind. The bar tender was knowledgeable and went over a wide variety of what looked like an amazing beer and cocktail selection. Somehow, my son caught they eye of the owner who stopped and talked to us for some time, even introducing her husband. They've lived all over the US and seem to have a great deal of culinary experience, along with just being super great people. You could tell they were busy but the fact that they took the time to see how our meal was and just talk really made the meal special. Nice restaurant, ambiance is nice, like that they use organic when possible. Love that there are plenty of vegan options, there is something on the menu for everyone. The mushroom Reuben is my favorite. The first time I ordered it, it was filled with plenty of mushrooms but varies each time I order, sometimes there are hardly any . Seriously my favorite restaurant in town. I've said it so many times, the atmosphere really makes my experience everywhere I go. If it's not cute in pictures, you wont find me there. Sorry not sorry. Anyway, their food is always good. The fish tacos are amazing and I get them almost every time I come. The cocktails are also great- my favorite is the Elderflower Martini. (If it's not on the menu, ask if they still have it and give it a try. Seriously). I had a great autumn salad recently with spaghetti squash and sweet potatoes. The only thing I wish was different about the salad would be to have the veggies warm. Still yummy though. Their charcuterie board was amazing when I got it, and I had truffle something once too. We went to dinner here on a Wednesday night, and sat outside. We were so excited to it - especially with the live music playing. Unfortunately that's where the good part came to a close. The service was so slow, we waited for over 15 mins to get water. I was so close to walk out, when my fiancé told me to just relax. The food was meh, and our waitress never waited came by to check in, we had to ask someone else for the check after waiting for a while. Honestly, it really is a shame, I don't know if this place is under new management or what. But this used to be a favorite of ours, we'd always go here for birthdays, and celebrations (it's where we celebrated our house closing when we moved to Newtown). So knowing the menu is now off and the service is below sub par is really disappointing. read more

Ambiance is pretty good. Half of the restaurant (dining area) is quiet and the other half (bar area) is lively. Food was okay but not great. Went here specifically because they had yucca fries, but I've had better, both in a restaurant setting (Clearwater, FL) and at home. Just an odd flavor profile for it that made it more herby and salty that something crunchy that you would dip in a sweet mango-like dip. The dip they provided was also of the savory, creamy kind. The truffle parmesan fries were also ho-hum. The ones at Cowfish (Orlando, FL) are way tastier, to the point that if these had been the first ones we've had, we would have never tried them again. The entrees of fish taco and smoked brisket french dip were decent, just not particularly memorable. The french dip sandwich was a good size and it reheated well for leftovers consumption. We also had a s'mores shake that had beautiful fire-charred marshmallow on top. It was a good shake but it had more attitude in the presentation than in the flavor. Once again, the aforementioned Cowfish restaurant provides the best S'mores shake I've ever had, with graham crackers inside the shake. Foundry had the graham crackers dusting the rim of the glass a la margarita instead. Overall, it was a decent place but not worth the money spent. I remember hearing about the Foundry but I never tried it before. We decided to have lunch at there last Saturday. The decor is rustic and comfortable with interesting artifacts and patina. We enjoyed the bar fare of burgers and sandwiches. My daughter had the beef teriyaki with sticky rice which was excellent. My only complaint was too much sauce on my burger so I will be sure to request it on the side next time! The price is reasonable and the portions are generous. The staff is helpful and attentive. One of our dishes had an error that clashed with a dietary restriction but alas it was not a big deal at all and the manager came out, apologized, and comped one entree and a round of drinks. THANK YOU. Hostess and bartender were also personable and kind. We cant wait to come back again next year and continue to give them our business. I've had a more middle-of-the-road experience at the Foundry. Sometimes they knock my socks off, but other times they leave me wanting more. Cocktails tend to be the most hit-or-miss thing for me: either too strong or very watery. Lunch has usually been solid with its attentive service, varied menu options, and execution of dishes. Unfortunately, dinner has left a little bit to be desired. So far, what I've had in the evening has failed to pack a punch. But it's an absolutely gorgeous spot that's easy to get to and has something for everyone. Perhaps I need to explore the menu and find a favorite to stick with! Brunch menu is odd and pretentious. Eggs Benedict came out after being under a heat lamp: Luke warm product with over cooked eggs. Bad flavor (hollandaise sauce is a staple in culinary school. How can you mess it up?) and pathetic potatoes (soggy and luke warm). My partner had an omelet which was ok. Coffee was weak and bitter. Live music was a turn off too- really noisy. I have had the misfortune of being dragged to this location a total of 4 times. The first was when we first moved to Sandy Hook. We sat in the noisy, practically pitch-dark dining room, wondering where our waitress was, what on earth they were using for their French Dip instead of Roast Beef (it turned out to be brisket) and choking on the fact they charge for each tiny glass of soda-pop. I have also been out to their porch in the summer, and despite the nice view of the Pootatuck river, is too windy and serves the same silly selection of food as inside. The menu is ridiculously pretentious and overpriced. Go to their website and look at their menu! Peanut Butter & Banana French Toast? Lobster w/Truffle & Eggs? French Dip with Duck meat? Poutine made with TATER TOTS, manchego cheese and lamb gravy??? (the entire country of Canada shudders with disgust) ...and get this: A salad with burrata cheese, beets, arugula pesto and Hawaiian lava salt that they call the "Battlestar Galactica"! So, if you are a "Muppie" (Millennial Yuppie) , this place is probably for you. But if you are an average person there are many better choices for both casual and upscale restaurants within a mile of this place. UPDATE: 12/31/18 The pretentious little owner thinks he's being funny with his comment about my review. The "business" I provided your sad little restaurant was (as I clearly stated) NOT by choice, but because going was easier than arguing about how unpleasant I think your place is. Consistently excellent food and service.I have been here a dozen or so times over the past 2 years and it never disappoints. Fish Tacos, Yucca Fries and Roast Beef Au Jus are some of our favorites. Just thought I'd update my earlier review since it's been a few years. My fiancé and I come here all the time and have nothing but great things to say. The service is phenomenal. Staff is very quick and attentive. They constantly come around asking if we need anything or to refill water and drinks. The food is amazing as well. Ask for the dumpling of the day!! Every time we have ordered them they have been delicious! Personally I love their sourdough grilled cheese. It's so good, especially with the tomato soup that it comes with. I recently tried the salmon BLT as well which was very tasty! My mother in law recently ordered the impossible burger and absolutely loved it so that's definitely a dish worth trying out too! Meanwhile, my fiancé loves the corned beef Reuben!! He always raves about how amazing the corned beef is (we've always had the corned beef when we come for brunch too and love it!). And as a final note definitely order the truffle or rosemary tots they are to die for! Stopped in for the first time last night. Rolled up to the bar around 930 and was greeted by a very pleasant bartender, Chris. I was pleased that he was able to offer me a "wrist breaker" liter of Radeberger on draft. The Picket Fence Pinot noir that my love ordered was a very nice offering in a Pinot by the glass. A few moments after we sat down, the gentleman came behind the bar and offered us a "sample" of a prospective new menu item. It was a very creatively done buffalo style version of scotch eggs. After chatting us up a bit, we came to find out that Clark is the new proprietor. We asked about the room upstairs and he promptly offered us a guided tour. He was more than happy to answer any questions we had about the place and provided me with a brief history of the building. As an individual who has been part of the hospitality business his entire life, I was more than impressed with my first visit. While I did not get into the menu, The energy that both Clark and Chris exhibited we're more than enough for me to look forward to being a frequent customer. read more
