We ate dinner at the Four Winds tonight. it was one of the worst experiences that we ever had. The bar person was very rude and the food was even worse. The so called specials ( flounder)were awful as they were floating in the sauce and the food was overcooked. someone should explain to the "chef" what al dente means. Very nice brunch today at Four Winds. Understandably busy for Mother's Day but staff did a superb job of attentive service. We started with an appetizer of shrimp scampi. Very flavorful sauce. Then wife & daughter ordered from the special menu. Lobster Mac & Cheese and Pistachio crusted Salmon. I had the stuffed fluke. All entrees were large & delicious. Let me begin by saying I have been a customer for over 25 years. My wife and I return to the Four Winds frequently on special occasions. We dined there last night to celebrate my birthday. To date, I have enjoyed both excellent food and service. Normally I would not take the time to offer these comments. Last night however, I was very concerned over the method by which our food was delivered to our table. I observed our waiter leave the kitchen area with a large tray and place our food on a portable folding stand directly outside the entrance door to the men's room. He then proceeded to carry two of the plates to our table, (which was a considerable distance from the rest of the food which remained on the tray). He then returned to the tray next to the men's room and brought the remaining food to our table. Even though this was done in a relatively short period of time, the food that remained on the tray was unsupervised for a portion of time and located right next to the men's room. NOT a very sanitary picture. Anyone entering or leaving the men's room would have passed very close to our food. I brought this to the attention of our waiter and the fact that I was uncomfortable with the method of serving the food. His response was, "really, this is the first time anyone has complained about that procedure". He offered no further comment. I would hope that management will caution their wait staff to not leave a customers food unsupervised during their delivery process and attempt to place the awaiting food closer to the customer's table.. On a brighter side, the food was excellent. We do plan to return to the Four Winds in the future. read more

This restaurant is a little of the beaten path but is great. Large portions. Good service. This was our 2nd time here. Tonight (Monday), we went to celebrate my husband's birthday. He had the salad with Shrimp Scampi and potato; I had the Manhattan Clam Chowder with rib/shrimp combo and french fries. The shrimp were made with a BBQ sauce that was very good and the ribs were moist and came right off the bone. MMMM Good. For dessert, we shared a slice of cheesecake. We did not have to wait before being seated. Ribs and shrimp were delicious. My husband mentioned that he could not taste any garlic in the scampi dish. It had more orange - flavored seasoning but still was very good. Definitely recommend this place. Last time we went on a weekend but called ahead to make reservations. It does get crowded. read more

I've been coming to this joint on and off, mostly off, for many years and sad to say they are as mediocre today as they were back in the day. Between the bar staff and kitchen they can't manage to deliver a simple cheese burger properly on time and prepared as requested. Not to mention that their decidedly inferior version of a prime rib dinner, which is their signature dish by the way, was just mediocre. No salad, no bread, zip, nada just an apology from the staff. Four Winds has always been a favorite spot with exceptional food. I don't know if the restaurant has been sold to a new owner and that would explain what happened. It was my husband's 73rd birthday dinner. We ordered tuna sashimi and 6 oysters. To begin, there was zero presentation. A little tin of soy and some pink jarred ginger accompanied the overcooked, hard tuna. Wegmans has better sashimi. The oysters at $17 for six, were served on a soup plate with a few pieces of ice, one sliver of lemon and some cocktail sauce. They were improperly shucked being still stuck to the shell. They were barely cold. My husband ordered crab cakes $45 and I the sautéed soft shell crabs. There was a choice of either scampi of francaise. I ordered the scampi. My husband's arrived in a bowl of orange sauce without as much as a parsley leaf. Mine was served on a mound of tangled pasta and were slimy to the touch. I tried to get the waitress' attention but she didn't see me. So I walked over to talk with her. She listened and said, there's nothing I can do. You need to speak with the manager. I returned to my seat and the young man who had been busing the tables came over. He was polite. I was confused and said, are you the manager? He nodded yes. Then a clearly intoxicated man with shorts and a stained tee shirt arrives. I had no idea why he was out our table. He asked me my name and where I was from. I told him my name but I refused to talk and was looking around for the waitress when I hear my husband say, what!!! You just told me to go F--k myself???!!! I stood up to look for help when another man from a table near the bar came over and said "I'll get your bill" and I wondered aloud why would a patron would pay. The drunk man was challenging my 73 yo husband to fight. The man, the waitress, and the musician were escorting us out saying, you've got to leave. They were trying to restrain the drunk. I asked, is he the owner? He was!! He followed us out (along with the other two men) who were trying to hold him back. He was screaming that he was calling the police bc we didn't pay the bill. The musician apologized and said the owner is not normally like that. We went home hungry bc it was too late to go elsewhere wondering "what just happened ". read more

As always, food is reliably delicious. Truly, never had a meal I haven't loved. However, prices have skyrocketed (astronomically) so it's no longer a place we go regularly on principle. I understand the need to increase prices, but this feels more like greed than the economy. Servers and bartenders are typically lovely, but management is rude and curt. Excellent burgers cooked perfectly medium rare. Also very good fries. We had lunch at the bar on a Sunday afternoon. Place was relaxed and bartender friendly and attentive. I think we found a replacement for lunch at the old Rod's at the bar. read more

My family and I went to Happy Hour here and overall had a terrible experience. The free popcorn they give you at the bar was completely stale. I ordered the grilled chicken tacos and the pico de gallo was brown. I left with a stomach ache that turned into food poisoning. I was throwing up all night! Never going here again. Four Winds is a solid choice for a family dinner in this neck of the Jersey Shore. I've come here with the boyfriend's family for a nice dinner out to celebrate Easter and the New Year. It's always packed here and even with a reservation for a table of 6 on a Saturday night, we still had to wait about a half hour before we were seated. It's decorated like a nice large but cozy home with plenty of big tables and a few smaller tables scattered throughout. They have a full bar and quite a nice, extensive local craft beer selection with about one of every style of beer. You can chill at the bar to wait for your table if you wish. Overall, their prices are definitely more on the $$$ side. Many of the entrees for dinner start in the $20s but they do include a salad or soup to start as well as bread to start off. Their plates are big and many do bring a box home at the end of the entree. I ordered one of their daily specials; seared scallop and crab capellini with a chicken barley soup to start. The soup was alright but salty for my liking. The scallops were sweet and the entree was quite hefty but I had enjoyed it. The rest of the table had prime rib and mahi mahi special which everyone seemed to enjoy. I'm typically feeling only 3 stars and an OK at the end of a Four Winds meal. The plates are generous and if you know what to order, it's certainly worth it but it's a local place where you can go for a nice family dinner where you want to treat everyone well. I don't ever feel like I've been dazzled by my meals here but I don't dislike coming here either. Give Four Winds a shot! read more

My neighbors raved about this place so I had to check it out. It was OK. Not great but not terrible. They can take a reservation but not sure if they know how to keep a reservation. Our 7:00 reservations turned into 7:40, plus they crammed 6 of us into the corner and barely could get in our seats, the hostess was not helpful or just didn't care. A couple of us had the prime rib which is their signature dish, it was above average. I made the mistake of getting a vegetable on the side (broccoli) completely tasteless. My wife had the seafood broil and that was just OK. The drinks were good and the atmosphere was casual, lively and fun. Lots of TV's if you want to watch a ballgame as you eat. If I ever crave a half decent steak and don't mind waiting I will return. read more

Gave them another try Tuesday night. Plenty of empty tables but we prefer the bar. We took the seats of another couple who had just gotten up. Bartender did not acknowledge us for 22 minutes, YES 22 MINUTES! I said to her "do you not see us sitting here?" She apologized and only then began cleaning up the dishes from the people who had left before we came. She then had the AUDACITY to tell us that she didn't realize we came in and she thought we were the same people sitting there earlier. This is unacceptable to me on so many different levels. 1: How can a bartender be so disengaged with her paying customers as to not know that there are now two totally different people sitting there? 2: Even if we WERE the previous customers, why would they be left there well over 25 minutes with used dishes in front of them that were not cleared? We had no intention of staying but I did stop and ask for the manager. She apologized but amazingly said that there was a shift change and the bartender probably didn't realize that it was a different couple. I have tried and tried to find some dish I like here but no dice. The lobster bisque was so so... no lobster meat at all. The crab cakes were fried but mushy inside with no discernable piece of crab to be found , on a bed of "eh" sauce. Stopped here for a St. Paddy's day lunch with friends to avoid the crowds at all of the area taverns. It was an excellent choice! We were seated right away & our waitress, Juliet, came over promptly. She was quite friendly & personable & immediately took our drink orders. My friends ordered vodka drinks with olives, which she graciously stuffed with blue cheese. A dirty martini rocks with stuffed blue cheese olives! I ordered an espresso martini that was absolutely delicious! We started out with some crispy, wasabi firecracker fried calamari & shrimp cocktail. The calamari was not as spicy as I had anticipated with the wasabi sauce that was nicely placed around the rim of the dish. Being a fan of just a little spice it was perfect for me. For lunch I opted for the pecan encrusted grouper. It was served promptly & was piping hot. It came with a side of yellow rice. I have to admit, the grouper was a bit lackluster. It tasted OK but was a bit on the mushy side, possibly due to the large amount of what looked & tasted like salsa on top. The rice had very little flavor. This is a nice place to come & hang out for a bit, maybe have a cocktail & a bite. I've eaten here before & the food is always OK, not great. Nice place though with reasonable prices. read more

Great menu, great food, great drinks. Poor Covid cleanliness. I went early (5pm) for dinner on a Friday night. The tables have plexiglass partitions up on 3 sides. However unlike other restaurant I've been to during Covid, the Four Winds was not seating guests in alternating spots - they seated EVERY table. And by 7pm the place was uncomfortably packed. The buss-staff were observed to barely wipe down tables and surprisingly did not wipe down the salt and pepper shakers either. Most restaurants no longer put salt and pepper shakers on the tables for Covid concerns. Apparently this restaurant isn't concerned about that. If Covid is a concern for you, give this place a pass or go for a late afternoon visit read more

We usually enjoy Four Winds, but our last experience was not great. No reflection on the food and service, which were very good, but their lack of COVID protocols is astounding. We had a 6pm reservation, and arrived about 15 minutes early. The place was PACKED at 5:45pm. It was at 100% capacity. Unlike other restaurants, they have not removed tables. Food is just ok and way overpriced for the taste/quality. But the fun neighborhood vibe is why we go there. But last night marks the last time for that. We were a party of 8. When the check came, which actually came sooner than expected with the waitress telling us that there was another party waiting for our table, one of our party took on the role of dividing up the bill amongst all of us, including tip. We all contributed our share in cash, but one member of our party used her credit card to pay her portion of the total. Then on the way to the door she was confronted by both the waitress and the manager who demanded to know why she hadn't included a tip on the credit card receipt. My friend explained the circumstances but was berated to the point where she ended up adding a tip to the credit card anyway just to be able to leave. I visited the Four Winds today because of an Asbury Park Press article about the best burgers on the shore. Four winds was not on top of the list but they got on my radar. I found the parking across the street wide open and ample. The building in new looking and appealing yet it sees dated and small inside. A nice greeting and a friendly waitress make you feel the place is on the ball. We ordered a couple of burgers and they came out in a decent time frame. Definitely cooked to order and just as we asked. I had the peppercorn burger with bacon and Swiss and I had them add blue cheese. My companion had the California burger. My gripe was finding a hair on my pickle. I quietly gave it to the waitress but it was not dealt with properly. No visit to the table from the manager. No offer of any kind. GROSS! I was on a date and didn't want to make a big deal I even continued to eat but I really didn't want to. I can say the burger was good so chances are you won't find a hair go try the place. read more

This is by far my favorite seafood restaurant so far. I had the captains seafood entree broiled and my wife had the stuffed shrimp. Both entrees were amazing and we will definitely be back on our next trip to NJ. I also had the margarita which was made perfect and the baileys coffee which was a little strong for my taste but who doesn't mind a little too much alcohol.
