Zero stars if I could I pre-paid for the Fox rental car thru Expedia. A "21 dollar a day" rental car which ended up being 177.00 for three day with taxes, fees, and insurance. After dropping the car on time with gas Fox (who had a 556.00 deposit put on top of the rental) charges the additional 56.70! For more "fees" !!! Not gas! Not miles! Just some renter fees! Returned in Perfect condition (not to mention we had the insurance) So now the 21 dollar a day car was 234.00!!!! Buyer Beware!! read more

Absolutely the worst car rental company I've ever encountered! Quoted $22.00/day, but after an additional $20.00 in taxes and numerous junk fees, and a 14.5% airport and city tax fees...it's not $22.00/day. Besides the customer service rep at the counter (who was very nice)...it was all downhill from there. Although I reserved a standard SUV, I was downgraded to a vehicle that wreaked of cigarette smoke, interior wasn't cleaned and had bad brakes, because they "didn't have any standard vehicles" ready. The following day I brought the vehicle back to the Burbank location and after an hour of haggling they finally gave me a standard SUV with 87,000 miles on it. When I attempted to contact the customer service number to extend my rental, I was placed on hold for 45 minutes then extended the rental by two days... Two days later I had to extend it again, was on hold for 40 minutes when the representative answer the telephone we were cut off and I attempted to call back and was on hold for 45 minutes and finally hung up When I return the vehicle, they emailed me a receipt that included charges for $25 a day in late fees. After spending another 45 minutes on hold with customer service, the representative would only refund one day of the late fees. The next day i decided a one day late fee refund wasn't good enough. So I spent another 40 min on hold and the customer service agent was rude and wanted to know why I didn't ask for it when I called the first time. He refused to remove late fees or credit me for providing a down grade the first day. When I asked for a supervisor I was told there was not a supervisor available. Additionally, he could not provide a detailed copy of the bill for the late days. This is absolutely a JOKE of a company. As the other reviews have stated, poor customer service, vehicles falling apart, numerous junk fees...stay far away. read more

When I got there they told me that they had no more cars left but I could pay an additional $20 plus tax to upgrade to another rental car from them. I was forced to pay them an additional $25, as they refused to upgrade me for free, even though it was their fault! It's really not the money it's the principle of the thing. I don't normally write reviews, but this company is such a SCAM I'm only writing this to warn future customers. DO NOT BOOK WITH FOX RENT A CAR -BURBANK. You think you're saving money, but with all the hidden fees, bullshit, and time wasted you're basically paying the same rate as other car rentals. SAVE YOURSELF THE HASSLE NOW. We pre-booked & pre-paid for our rental car 1 month in advance. When we arrived to pick up our vehicle, we were told they don't have a car for us and there's no guarantee that another car would be available, so the next best option was to book one of their premium vehicles for an added cost. What??? The reason we booked with Fox in the 1st place was for the cheap rates -how are you expecting customers to be able to afford paying more for a problem that wasn't even ours to begin with??? We denied paying more for their premium vehicles bc we simply couldn't afford it. Their final solution they had was to come back 2hrs later to pick up the next drop off, but they emphasized even that wasn't guaranteed. Thankfully that last option ended up working out, but what would've happened if it didn't??? In summary, our original pickup time was 1:30PM, we didn't get a car until 4:30PM. We wasted a total of total of 5hrs, paid extra $ for ubers to leave the airport & come back to pick up the rental, had to deal with condescending & rude associates, and lastly learned they charged $40 in hidden fees I don't even know what for. We returned the vehicle in pristine condition before our scheduled drop off so I really don't understand. I booked by phone, only to arrive at the location to find it was booked for Atlanta. Lisa (Sunday 1/28 6 am) at the desk was frazzled, she told me by arriving at 6 am- I had arrived before she was ready with a computer set up etc. I called to get the issue straightened out after all I had spent over an hour on the phone the day before. They could book a new one, and confirmed the Burbank system showed mid sized suvs available. Lisa however had already decided I interrupted her morning and she didn't have anything for me bc I booked day of, I mean I didn't but bc of the issue I was. I let the person on the phone know and she reiterated their system shows it's available. Lisa said I don't have any cars available for you. When the other person on site at the location when I walked over said it was fine (she was checking in returned cars so couldn't help me). Based on the petty unprofessional behavior of Lisa I chose not to make a new reservation for a different. Car. I would give 0 stars if I could. I made a reservation through a third party, Expedia. I went to pickup my reserved vehicle at 6pm, which is when I requested the car. The worker at the kiosk said that they are closed, and I should not have been allowed to book a reservation this late. She said she did not have any car for me, unless I wanted to pay $150 extra to upgrade to a much bigger car, which I did not want to do. She basically told me to contact Expedia to cancel my reservation and request a refund from them. She stated that she would write her notes in the reservation to have them refund me. 2-hours later, my husband brought me to Payless Car rental to pickup a car that he reserved for me. While driving through the parking garage, I saw that FOX car rental was still open, workers were inside, and customers were lined up outside the kiosk. We asked the Payless Car Rental Rep and he confirmed that Fox car rental was still open. We were quickly assisted by Payless Car Rep, and drove off with a shiny new rental car. I'm very disappointed in the lack of customer service I was shown at Fox Car rental. We will never use FOX again, and we will recommend our friends and family to steer clear of Fox Car Rental, as well. Why are they so horrid??? They are so cheap BUT we couldn't find a person when we arrived. Once we found her, she was nice and we got on the road. Our car smelled of bad BO. We had places to be and assumed it would dissipate, but it did not, and we were 100 miles away at a conference so we bought ground coffee and odor remover for the car which at least overpowered the stink. The return of stink-mobile nearly drove me over the edge. No signage, no employees and so we pull up next to their booth in the garage and start unloading our bags and "Steve" starts yelling at us to get out of the road (there were no other cars and we were on the 3rd level of a parking garage ‍). Then he directed us to another booth to return and then I guess that wasn't right so he had us BACK UP and move the car again. I told him to chill out and he just wanted to fight me. It was weird. Made a reservation for pickup at Burbank airport 2 months ahead of time. Get there at 8pm. No cars available. Not just the one I picked, but no cars at all. I felt pretty sorry for the front desk person, as they clearly were going to be dealing with a very rough night, as there was a line forming behind us. Reserved a midsize SUV thru Travelocity, paid in advance for a Collision Damage plan thru the app. Travelocity said my Total with taxes and fees would be $162.44. I had read the reviews before and they said watch out for hidden fees. I didn't believe it so I still tried the Fox rental. And when when I went to pay I ended up paying $409.78. The only fee added on was $20 something a day for being 23 years old, which is my rental was 4 days. So don't get Fox rentals if you're not ready to dash out twice as much as you thought you were. First this Helen was great, but that's where it ended. I was charged for an extra day even though I returned to car 26 hours before my receipt came in. And charged for gas after we filed the car up before we dropped it off. I called customer service and let them know i have google timeline to prove that I returned the car before the time it was due back and have Google timeline to show when we got gas before returning it. My almost 2 hours of being on hold resulted in about 5 mins with one representative, a long hold and transfer to another representative about 10 mins of a conversation where I explained i have my Google timeline to show and there cameras will show the same thing, and then being hung up on. I'm now contacting a lawyer being that they only have me back $52 of my money after taking my $150 deposit and charging me another $122 for "gas" supposedly. We were already having a hard enough time, we weren't renting cars for fun. My boyfriend's car broke down, we took it to the shop got it back 2 days later it was stolen, then the police found it and it was stripped of parts, so another trip to the shop. We aren't giving out money freely, and yet again we have been robbed, but by fox rental car now. P.s. we tried to get a receipt from the attended and were told it would be emailed to us. The car was fine and the woman who helped us when we returned the car was kind and helpful. Unfortunately the man that helped us when we picked up the car mislead us. We asked what happens if we go through a toll, as we were unsure whether we would have to or not. He said "For twelve dollars, you can go through whatever toll you like." We took this offer, as it seemed like a good one! Wrong. Its $12 a day. We paid $60 to never even go through a toll. When we asked for a refund for the $60.00 at the end of our trip because we were mislead, we were told that they are unable to give us a refund and we would have to call customer service. When we called customer service they told us that they can only refund half of the amount, no matter what. Just make sure you know what your getting before driving away, as they will not help you when you go to pay for the car at the end of your trip. Deposit is $500.00. read more

I called the bank and the bank said it was fine and there was enough money on it to cover the rental. They sent me an email and text message to show to the manager. The manager then YELLED- that's not acceptable. That is what we call phishing. I told him well, you need to get the dictionary and read the definition of phishing. Where's the negative sign for this star rating? I stopped renting from Fox several years ago after a typical " we have no cars, yes you have a reservation but we rented everything " experience. But I got sucked in to the low rates. Thank GOD I didn't prepay. I was concerned when the three people in line ahead of me left without cars. I made a reservation online with Orbitz and when I went to pick up my vehicle, I was told by Crystal (the manager) that the reservation wasn't in the system and that it could take up to 3 hours to show up in her system. She then went on to tell me that the vehicle I rented was not available and wouldn't be available at all. She said in order to get me an SUV (like I reserved), it would have to be an upgrade and I would have to pay over $300 additional dollars for it. Orbitz said Fox Rent A Car should have accommodated me without an additional charge since they didn't have the car I reserved; unfortunately Fox didn't. It was such a hassle and waste of time. This was my first time renting a car and the whole process was honestly so easy. And thank you so much to HELEN! When I was dropping off the car I wasn't sure where to go since the guys weren't there to take the keys back and I wasn't quite sure how to fill out a sheet they had for after hours drop off so I headed to the service desk and Helen was disinfecting the whole counter. We really should have looked here way before renting. 3 times and every time bait and switch. This last time we wanted something sporty so we rented a Dodge Charger. Even call 3 days in advance to insure they moved one to Burbank from another lot. The guy told us that is they didn't have it or similar they would issue a voucher to pay any additional charges from a competitor. I arrived at 6am sharp and immediately the girl says they don't have it. She also says they have NOTHING even close! I wanted to try this rental company, but, If I could give it 0 I would. Worst experience. The employee walked in the front desk without a mask then put it on after. Then a young guy that was picking up the rentals had no knowledge of the cars and looked at me like if I was crazy when I told him what yr was the car and if it was involved in an accident, it had a huge dent on the hood. He looked at me like I was crazy and said "I don't know" other rental cars know their cars. i asked if they had anymore cars to choose and they said no, i really didn't feel safe and wanted another car but they didn't have many options. They really didn't go out of their way to make you feel safe and at peace. its was like you're on your own. Car was NOT cleaned or sanitized & the worst part was you can hear the breaks made noise SAFETY HAZARD! I could swap the rental because there was no Fox Rental's Co near me. Car was damaged & dirty from the inside and out. the driver floor had a whole on the carpeting and it was a mess. I called and told them about my car and said they couldn't do anything. If I could give this location negative stars I would. So this past Monday 03/20/23 me and my family flew into Burbank airport to go to Disneyland. We made reservations with this location for a 12:30 pm pick up and ended up arriving around 1:30pm, which should have been more then enough time for them to have our Midsize standard SUV ready for pick up. When we arrive the lady in their little kiosk lets us know that our vehicle was not ready and that they had NOTHING available and didn't know when they would. Now there was a Jeep sitting in their parking lot right in front of the kiosk which was a "premium" SUV which is at most $15 dollars more a day. I asked the lady if we could just take the Jeep since she had nothing else available and she didn't know when she would and I didn't want to have my sons out here sitting around in the cold, since the LA area got hit with a decent size storm. She advised she couldn't give us that vehicle, now we have rented from just about every other company and EVER time a situation like this came up they have ALWAYS did a free upgrade. NOT FOX however. I asked to speak with the manager. The manager came over, she is a heavy set Hispanic lady with red/pink hair. The situation was explained and instead of taking care of her customer she made the situation worse! She was extremely rude and gave us a bunch of bullshit excuses. She told us that she would NOT let us take the Jeep and that we could either wait or we could cancel and go else where. She told us it could be 5 minutes or 3 hours for our vehicle to be ready and that we could either wait or go somewhere else. She eventually just walked away and said "Ok bye come back tomorrow for your rental." At this point I asked for their corporate number so I could speak to a someone with some sense and also complain. Oh did I mention that the "manager" refused to give me her name and told her employees NOT to give it to me. After speaking with their customer service representative she advised that unfortunately there wasn't much she could do on her end other then email her General Manager and that she doesn't understand why the "manager" didn't just upgrade because that's normally what would happen due to the situation, however it is at the discretion of the location. While on the phone with customer service they magically found a midsize car for us to take. Now if they would have just told us that they did not have a midsize SUV BUT did have a midsize sedan we would have understood, said thank you and went on our way. If this is the way FOX treats their customers I don't see them staying around for much longer. Side note it's now Friday 03/25/23 and I NEVER received a call or anything from their General Manager! Now I know why their "manager" acts the way she does, it starts from the top. WORST COMPANY to deal with, spend the extra couple dollars and go with Hertz, Enterprise or Avis. I have a rental and wish to ask a question, service kind of hard to explain with travel nonexistent. Upon receiving my rental I remarked to the young man the heavy xmas smell. Come to find out after several days it was someone who had smoked in my car. Finally got a customer service rep. to answer with my question on the extension and talked to Christy on Monday, Aug 3rd. They didn't have the car I reserved so they put me in a bigger one at no cost. Everyone was very nice, the car was clean, looked nice on the outside too, and ran well. I've rented from Fox before with low expectations, but this whole new level. Our car that they wanted to give us was a new Toyota Corolla however it looked like it was on a bumper car course before it became a fleet rental car. Everybody panel was damaged, car had obviously been in a front and rear accident as the paint looked like the skin of an orange, a sign of subpar paint job. The interior had fresh stains of who knows what origin. Interior was light color and stains were all over the cloth. This car needs to be at the nearest pick n pull yard for parts. I complained and they gave me a better car (if you want to call it that), but again the theme at Burbank is to provide cars that have been in an accident. Front bumper and driver fender were missing vin numbers and were poorly put back together. Every time we went over a bump, the front end of the suspension sounded like it was about to detach itself from the frame. I felt like I lost teeth going over the bumps in this car from the jolts it sent though the body. Imagine going over speed bump at 50 miles an hour, that's what it felt and sounded like. Do yourself a favor and spend little extra on car rental or risk the car you rent to come completely apart in an accident. I'll be sending Fox my dental bill for new teeth. read more

Worst customer service experience I have ever received and I am 60! The person who claimed to be in charge, Adel, obviously has not received any management training nor would he ever be a candidate for a manager role in a more professional company. I had prepaid $292 for a standard car for 8 days through Priceline. There were no standard cars available when I arrived. I was offered a 4 wheel drive for an extra $180 plus all the fees. My other option was a Starsky and Hutch looking car that was so long and jacked up, I knew I would never be able to park that in LA. I am 5'2" and drive a Mini Cooper at home. The employee helping me was helpful and trying his best but this "manager" person was hot headed, rude, and kept interfering with the employee. The employee could not do anything without Adel interrupting him. The situation went from bad to worse. The "manager" said he was done with me and cancelled my reservation completely. Told me to go back to Priceline to deal with my refund. Bottom line here, what I learned about Fox Car Rental is they quote super low prices through 3rd parties like Priceline and Expedia. When you arrive, there is no inventory in those cheaper categories, so they try to upgrade you to a more expensive car thinking you are desperate to get on the road after your travels. In the end, the price I would have paid for the available 4 wheel drive was very close to the same as if I had chosen a more reputable company in the beginning. My guess is this is how Fox keeps $$ from going to the third party but yet uses them to lure in business. I rented from a different agency and was on the road in 30 minutes. I also learned the other more reputable companies at Burbank Airport want Fox removed as they are constantly hearing similar horror stories from Fox customers. So, I arrived to pick up my rental feeling a great deal of trepidation! That feeling ended up being totally unwarranted. The person that helped me was very nice, didn't hard ball me on the extra coverage, etc. and gave me a much nicer car than I had reserved! Returning the car was super easy. No hidden fees. Awful experience!!! We have rented from FOX for years. In Burbank they wanted to charge for spouse because we have different last names!! I pointed out in CA you do not get charged for spouse, domestic partners as additional drivers. She said she did t like my tone and refused to rent us a car. She then cancelled our reservation.
