We looked for "Best Mexican food close to me" while in Minden and Francisco's came up. I had the Chile Colorado and my wife had shredded beef sopes. The Chile Colorado was delicious, very tender and in a flavorful deep red sauce. The sopes were very good and the portions were generous. The service was outstanding, very fast and returned multiple times to refill our drinks and to get a green sauce for my wife. We will be going back for sure. read more

Ok- where to start? How about the starters. Francisco's refried beans and salsa are the BEST my wife and I have ever had. The beans were creamy and delicious and the salsa had a kick that wasn't over whelming. Our meals were amazing. My wife had the chimichanga and I got the macho burrito. Both were amazing! Overall an incredible meal. The service was also incredible. The restaurant itself has a very relaxed and authentic feel to it. We will definitely be making this a required stop whenever we are in Minden. The only detractors (and these were small) was that that our kids cheeseburger wasn't up to par with the rest of the meal. Also the sopapillas were a little harder than we are used to. However we have only had them in New Mexico so maybe that's how they are done in other places. read more

I have been here many times as we pass through the area for hiking and the Highway 395 experience. It could be managed just a bit better, like a better bathroom (soap dispensers suck), and a few other nuances, but for the most part the kitchen and competent service staff do a wonderful job here at this "established for many years" restaurant. Plate wise, the portions are large, lots of seafood and house specials, typical combination plates. The salsa is quite spicy made in house, and delicious. There are tables outside, but the inside is very inviting and marked with bright mexican colors and paintings, there is a front room, bar area and back dining room which is their core seating area. This location (of 2) is in the heart of Minden in a corner block so the location and private parking lot are quite nice and it's easy to get too right in the business district of Minden. One of my favorite features of this full service, full bar restaurant is the bar area, which is quite comfortable, well lit and inviting. It has two televisions for you to enjoy with a beverage (and a meal). They carry all the Cazadores (the hunter) Tequila styles, which is one of my favorite tequilas. I haven't been back in two and half years, and yesterday was the day that the hiatus ended. I needed 'to go' food, and it was a very specific order. We needed shredded beef enchiladas, cheese enchiladas, whole beans, and white rice, and Francisco's delivered. The order was phoned in and ready in 15 minutes. That's a good thing. They told me it would be ready, and it was. Also, the meals were very carefully packed. Instead of simply covering each plate with a piece of foil, they foil wrapped a plate and placed it upside down covering the food. Seems simple enough, but most places skip this step. So, the food appeared great when I got it home and took it out. How did it taste? These were exactly the flavors that I expected, and, yesterday, the food hit the spot just right. I did not try their tacos, and so I don't know if they will compete with my favorite tacos from down the street a bit. So, after 2.5 years it was nice to go back to Francisco's. read more

Stumbled across this place by accident. We were driving through the area and decided to stop for lunch. Fantastic, BEST chili Colorado I've ever tasted and that's a pretty expansive list. I love chili Colorado, it's one of my go to Mexican foods. The place was nice inside, maybe a little sparse but the service was good and the food was great! I don't live in the area but will definitely eat there next time I'm up that way. read more

Very good ..are favorite Mexican restaurant in Minden. Nerve had a bad meal service is great they have a bar and make great margaritas there are some outdoor seating if you like. We always make a stop there when we come from California and stay and play at Carson Valley inn. Very well known by the local residents for there great food. We recommend if your looking for good Mexican food this is the place to go and easy to find. Give it a try you won't be disappointed. read more

Today I went with my friend and my mom. It wasn't to busy and it was absolutely delicious, fresh warm crisp chips and the best bean dip that's free. Mom ordered the seafood tostada, it was only 7 bucks covered in bay shrimp and wait for it.... real crab!!! I could believe how big it was when it came out and how much crab, and it tasted fresh, the salsa was a little hot for her but I loved it. I got the fajitas shrimp, they come sizzling out in a tangy sweet and sour spicy sauce, cooked pretty well but with all that heat they are a little smaller than the ones on my friends dish that was to die for. The beans are super yummy and the guacamole was just avocado, it was lots of chunks of tomatoes and spices and onion, the rice is light and fluffy with a paprika, butter notes. My friend out the ranchero shrimp and the browned buttery of the sauce was to die for, and they give you like 10-12 shrimp and it's only 13 bucks, plus rice beans tortillas. I learned the depth of flavor comes from not so spicy chilis like poblanos and like six other chilis layered with bell pepper and onion, it tasted like was cooking for hours. Yum. Yum. YUMMY!!! This is our new "go to " place in our town to eat, everything was fantastic. This restaurant has a bar area, two separate dining areas to eat, and a banquet room for parties, which is a nice feature as our town is limited in that area. Our server was super super speedy, she did not mess around, and it was awesome. Chips and salsa came first of course. Their salsa is extremely tasty, loaded with chunks of fresh tomatoes and cilantro. I had the two cheese enchiladas and hubby had the combo with an enchilada, taco, and tamale. Let me just say that there was no food left when we were done. The food was super flavorful, just the right temperature, and I really wish I could have eaten more We have 4-5 Mexican restaurants in our area, and Francisco's is the best for sure. read more

Hey, I get having limited seating and all. I understand the mask thing those distancing thing. My wife and i make a point to drive to Nevada to experience any kind of normality. But to walk up to my table after I've spent 100.00 on dinner. After I just got another alcoholic beverage that I hadn't touched yet. You asked my wife and I to leave. Get out, we need the table. The food was ok, kind of over rated actually. Service was ok. But whoever that guy was that told us to leave.....here's your well deserved 1 star. It was our first time here. Apparently they had tacos for $2 for taco Tuesday but we weren't aware but we also didn't ask. My husband ordered the lunch menu of 2 tacos, rice and beans for $9.95 while my mom ordered a side taco. It wasn't until we got the check that we noticed the special. So my husband's 2 tacos would have been $4 and his rice and beans cost ended costing $5.95. On the way out there was a chalk board sign but nothing mentioned the tacos. To me it would make sense to make the combo on sell since the ala carte tacos are cheaper, even $7.95 to get people to order up. Except for not telling us the special, our server was nice. Taco salad without a shell was good. Price was a nice price considering it was salad and meat. Sour cream and guacamole was extra. So my score is really a 3.5 but I don't like to under score so I went to a 4 star instead. We will come back for tacos but know now to just order ala cart. read more

This is our new favorite Mexican food restaurant! Always delicious! Great Horchata! This place gets really busy but is worth the wait! Do yourself a favor and take someone you love. I have eaten at this restaurant only once, and that was enough for me. I ordered Chile rellenos, they were awful, the cheapest ingredients were used to make it. I took a couple of bites and barely managed to choke it down, I stopped eating right then and there. About all I can recommend was the chips and salsa, at least that was edible. I have been testing all of the Mexican restaurants in the area, trying to find an authentic one with great flavor and price. So far JJ's has been the best. Their portions are small, but the food is authentic and full of flavor. This place left me very disappointed. The flavor was bland, service was painful (I felt like I was interrupting their lives by eating here), and I feel I could have gotten the same meal if not better from any restaurant in the area. Sadly enough nothing stood out to me here. Won't be back and don't recommend :( read more

I ordered the shredded beef burrito from the lunch menu and it's served with sauce and melted cheese over it...kind of like an enchilada....with rice and beans on the side. The burrito itself is filled with a good amount of shredded beef. Overall, it is just the right amount of food for lunch, and the pricing is fair. read more

We 'accidented' upon stopping into Francisco's this past Friday night. We were driving through Gardnerville/Minden on our way to Bishop CA when we had car trouble. We went in around 6pm I'd say and the place was very busy. The wait staff were scurrying around at high speed. We asked for a table in the bar because we didn't want to take a lot of time. I found the service to be adequate, and the food was fine, but I think the locals must LOVE THIS PLACE because it was extremely busy. In the 45 minute we were there, there was a steady stream of people coming in. It didn't take long before there was a waiting list for at least 3 - 4 tables. Plenty of people finished to make room for more, but there was pretty much a waiting list for almost the entire time we were there. I don't think anyone had to wait more than 10 minutes before a table was available though. Busy busy busy place. Generally means well liked by locals. If I'm ever stuck in Gardnerville/Minden again, I'd be happy to stop here again. read more

Good Mexican This restaurant is in Minden the main drag so it's easy to find. The usually no wait and the service is good. They have a large menu so there is always something on the menu for everyone. Chips and salsa are served before the meal. We had carnitas burritos, chicken chimichanga, beef tacos and cheese enchiladas. Everyone was very happy with their meals. This looks like a bar at first... Then you walk back behind the bar to the dinning room. It's small but clean. Bathrooms are clean too. I ordered the taco salad.. You have your choice of meat. It comes on a plate WITHOUT the shell. You have to ask for the shell if you want it. The food was HOT and the flavors were good. You can tell the use high quality foods, compared to its competitors. Beans are made from scratch, taste like bacon to me :), and the group of people eating here range from judges and lawyers to mom and pop. They have American food on the menu as well, so the kids are happy to! I would love to come back to try something more traditional. read more

Went there for lunch with my husband. Clean dining area, prompt service and a good size menu. The chips and salsas were very good. Tasted very fresh and homemade. I ordered chimichanga with shredded beef. Everything was good except the beef was bland. We ordered fried ice cream and it tasted really good. Their food and service was great. Their red and green salsa for the chips they serve was fantastic. It wasn't too chunky and it wasn't too liquidity. Our waitress showed great hospitality towards us!
