I went here after a friend recommended Michael. He was very friendly, and they got me in quickly on the weekend even though I'd never been there before. The salon is pretty big and has these cool fish tanks. They don't push products on you, either, which I appreciate. I stayed w Francos for a couple cuts but my hair looked a bit funny so I followed Sam to the new place and am paying more than I want but my hair looks the way I like it again. Ive been coming to Franco's for a couple of years now, after finding them on Yelp. I'm very happy with the service and the ambiance. After Sandra left, I switched to Sam and I have been very happy! I love the way Sam cuts my hair. She's a sculptor and think she approaches haircutting with an artist's eye. I don't need anything unusual, but she's made some good suggestions that work for me. She listens and whether i want it close or long, she makes it work. As far as the ambiance - I like the relaxed feel - it's comfortable and friendly. I used to go here for my main spa needs because it was right next door to my apt in Inman Sq. However, now that I've moved I can't say that I'm attached. They give awesome pedicures. I had my feet pampered and massaged. They offered me wine too. I've had a brazillian here too, but it wasn't as great of an experience. The first time was pretty good. The second time, I had the same lady, but she did not take her time like she did the first time. She didn't ask if I wanted a landing strip or not (which I was debating on, but hey she made the decision for me). The 3rd time was just like wtf? I recently moved to Cambridge and was searching yelp for a place to get my hair cut. I stumbled upon Franco's and a long list of rave reviews. I checked out the website and found out I could make an appointment online (nice perk). The next day, I sat down in the chair with Franco. He's a quiet guy, but don't be fooled. He knows what he's doing. My hair wasn't in great shape thanks to a bad cut previously. Franco ran his hands through my hair to examine the way it fell, asked me what style I was looking for and then went to work. The result was an awesome cut that left me feeling a lot more confident than when I walked in the door. The cost is reasonable and you get 20% off if it's your first time coming in, too! I just moved to the Boston area, and went to Francos for a haircut. The stylist sped through my consultation, not asking any questions or clarifying what I wanted, and got the back of my sweater wet washing my hair. Her scissors were dull as I could feel the resistance as she glided them through my hair. My haircut is straight, but the end layers I asked for aren't there. I would have asked it to be fixed but I just didn't feel comfortable having her continue to work on my hair. At the end she didn't give me a mirror to check the back, and had walked over to the front desk before I was even done looking at my hair. Overall I got the impression she didn't want to be there and sped through my cut so she could go do something else. The 2 stars is because the haircut is straight and not atrocious, but it's not what I wanted style-wise and would not recommend going here. read more

My boyfriend is a longtime patron of Franco's, so when I was in search of a new, convenient salon in Cambridge I thought I'd give it a try. I had a great experience with Ashley. I have a pixie-length women's cut and it is a challenge to keep it looking exactly the way I like it. I want to keep the length but thin it out and reduce the puffiness. Ashley was a great listener and gave me exactly what I was looking for. I had a haircut with John. The haircut itself was okay. I've had better and I've had worse. I would say that it was about average. Jon spent a lot of time reassuring me that I was going to get what I wanted, and not actually that much time asking me to describe what I want (and of course, I should have been more certain and vocal about what I want, so this is probably my fault as well). Asked for a shaved sides haircut and Franco got me a full shave. It doesn't look bad, but it's not what I asked for. My hair will grow back again, and when it does, I'm not coming back to Franco's. They did the hair for my wedding! They did a great job, and were very kind and accommodating, opening the shop an hour earlier than usual on a Sunday. Price was good, too. The only thing that got in the way of that being a five-star experience was that there was a lot of confusion beforehand as to whether that was possible and what the price would be, which made the planning phase more stressful than necessary. I made an appointment online which was confirmed and when I walked in was informed that the system had made an error - even though my appointment was in their system. The error was that the amount of time allocated to my service was shorter than it actually takes. I said I had time to wait and was given the response "sorry but we can't help you". There was no attempt in giving me options of coming back at a later time, rebooking my appointment or having me wait until I could be assisted. I am appalled at the complete lack of customer service. I can understand computer systems making an error yet not attempting at all to try and rectify or make up the error is unacceptable. As I'm new to area I was hoping to make this my regular hair salon yet I will never come back and do not recommend it at all. read more

A different hair salon gave me a haircut that belonged to someone else last week, someone a little chubbier and less vain. Although I tried to live with it, I decided to return it to its rightful owner. It just wasn't working out. I called around to find out who might have lost their haircut and put up a few signs in the neighborhood with my number, but didn't get a single response. I considered a Craigslist ad, but after a lot of soul searching, the best thing to do was put it out of its misery. It wasn't something I had the stomach for. So I booked an appointment at Franco's and Ashley, wielding a arsenal of scissors, had taken care of it in a few snips! No blood even! In return, she introduced me to a new haircut. She missed painting part of my big toe, and only 30 minutes after the manicure I need to take off the polish and finish filing down some of my nails.
