Frangos Peri Peri is a mini Portuguese chain specializing in said African-Portuguese dish. The most well known chain for this spot is Nando's with a few in DC but there's none of them here. There's a a couple of these spots with the original one being in Middle Village (in queens) but there's also a few other locations as well. I went here with one of my less common groups to sample some of the tasty food here. The head was ordering for us as he had a mild/moderate spice tolerance so we stuck with the less heat focused options but it was still tasty. The service was alright being pretty friendly but not with the best English. I presume the guy spoke Portuguese or something similar. The drink selection has a good soda fountain with more unique options than most. We started with the hummus listed as hummus with a drizzle of peri peri sauce and served with nachos or pita bread. We got it with pita and it was fine. The hummus had a fun spice kick from the peri peri but had some of the creaminess you'd associate with a hummus. I presume they don't make in house but the peri peri was a nice touch. We got two of the Whole Grilled Chickens, Lamb Chops, and the Beef Bites as the main. The former was with a mix of mild and the garlic and herb. The chicken was pretty sauce and quite tasty. A bit of heat but not much as expected but they did have some sauces on the table which helped kicked it up a bit. The lamb chops we got with mango and lime. You couldn't taste the lamb much from the sweet sauce but it was tender and tasty. Pretty solid but tiny chops for the price. If you're looking for something more substantial based on price, the beef bites with flame grilled bite size beef served with rice & salad or fries was probably the most filling. We got the lemon & herb for the beef and the beef could have been a bit more tender but it still had a tasty sauce. For sides, the Grilled Cauliflower was probably the best of the group also having some peri peri on it. The Seasoned Fries were also very tasty with a tiny kick. The Coleslaw was luckily not that watery but lacked a bit of flavor and the Spicy Rice wasn't that spiced and the salad was standard with a creamy dressing. It's hard to rate this spot. The chicken was solid and the food overall was pretty tasty but I find the prices a tad high for just about everything with especially the sides being overpriced for the sizes. Frangos Peri Peri has been one of my go-to spots in the neighborhood for a while now, and it never disappoints. I usually get delivery, and the food always arrives well-packed, hot, and delicious. Their wings are amazing, and I especially love the chicken bites--they're so flavorful! My favorite combo is the chicken bites with salad and rice. The salad dressing is so good! My husband and son love the wings too, but we've also tried the steak bites, wraps, smash burgers, lamb chops, impossible burgers--you name it. We've sampled a lot, and everything has been great. Was expecting something very good from the high ratings but the main star, the chicken, was kinda disappointing. My brother and I got the Peri for Two takeout which portion-wise is clearly enough. Maybe it was just the wrong choice of sauce or what but lemon & herb was not it. It was thick and gritty with a strong lemon taste and I don't mean it was sour either. This place was delicious! They have a small outdoor tent set up and weren't too busy on a Friday night. Given how amazing their food was, I was surprised there weren't more people in line! The chicken was tender and flavorful. You can pick which sauce to go on top of the chicken and when the food arrive, they also give you all the 6 sauces on the side. We got our chicken with the hot sauce and I dipped my pieces in garlic and herb. It was perfect. For the sides, the seasoned fries were addictive!!! Highly recommend this. My entire family got food poisoned yesterday. I've ordered from here few times. I miss Nandos and flavor wise this was the closest to Nandos. In the past the food was always a hit or miss but yesterday I can't even fathom what the 6 of us went through. The chicken smelled like fart or faeces. I didn't think too much about it. We were starving so we all pushed through and just ate and we all discussed how the chicken smelled like fart. I complained to DoorDash talking about the quality & we got half of the food refunded. Also all table has a water bottle already filled with water, also I'm not sure that's a good idea and I would not want to drink that water if the table has been emptied if for even 30 minutes without a cover .. Here comes the food, uhm.... I've had many peri chicken and this one was quite not okay. The sauce was acceptable but only sit on top of the chicken skin. The meat has no flavor at all. Especially since I don't eat the chicken skin, after taking the skin off, I was left with a flavorless chicken. I can't remember what it was like prior to the call for social distancing. This was the weekend before it all went down when we decided to try Peri Peri for our monthly eating adventures. It was a very cute space with water and sauces already placed on each individual table. There was only one person working during the lunch hours. We had to order in the front. The garlic bread was heavenly. The fries were nice and crunchy though the "spicy fries" were more like Cajun fries. The lamb chops were good. I forget which sauce we got, but the wings and the chicken were a but too sauce-y. The burger was very interesting in a weird way. We all agreed that we would not get it again. It tasted artificial. My new favorite chicken place. A really unique recipe (to me, at least), and nice, unusual sides. You can order your chicken by degree of peri-peri chili spiciness, and we got the "hot." It was fine, but there's a extra-hot I'll try next time. My fiancé and I tried the shrimp skewers, the Russian Roulette wings (be prepared for a little bit of spice with these, it's a flavorful spice and not one that leaves your mouth feeling numb) the lamb chops with mango lime sauce and mild garlic sauce (both just finger licking good), the grilled cauliflower and the peri salsa. Cool menu of different chicken options as well as various sides available. Decided on the Peri Burger w/ one side ($13) - chicken tenders in burger form drenched in hot sauce. Tenders are sizable, so I only finished 3. There wasn't an option to select sauce type on Postmates. What turned up was a variety of sauces. The Mild and Mango & Lime were my favorites, but the Lemon/Garlic & Herb were great as well. Can't wait to try Hot/Extra Hot as someone who loves heat!
