First time diners to Frankies at their new location here in N. T.... Waited 25 minutes after being seated and still never acknowledged by a server. There were 3 other tables eating inside, no one at the bar outside, yet as we waited, there were 2 bartenders, a manager, and two table runners standing around with "nothing to do," while the server was running back and forth through the establishment from the kitchen to the other tables. We paid for our $6 bottle of unfinished water and left to patronize another NT restaurant. With all the great restaurants in North Tonawanda, it seems like Frankie Primo's is going to have a hard time making a go of it. read more

Won a brunch gift certificate at a benefit in the fall and finally made it in. The $50 about covered our meals and one beverage each with $2 to spare. I had the Giambotta, a melange of potatoes, peppers, onions, sausage and scrambled eggs covered in cheese served with Italian toast. My mom had the breakfast pizza, which we could have shared as our meal. She had a glass of Cabernet and I the Bloody Mary. I'm a bit of a Bloody Mary snob so I take points off for no rimmer on the glass. The garnish was a piece of cheese wrapped in an Italian meat sliced thin and this was shoved inside a cherry pepper. I'd have appreciated a couple olives as well. Our meals were tasty. I would maybe go back and split that pizza. I've read and think I saw the check come with sesame cookies AND limoncello....for others. We only got the cookies. Why? Can't say...I like limoncello, but didn't feel the need to ask for it. read more

Not able to decide where to eat lunch, three of us decided on Frankie Primo's based on nothing more than the lighted Peroni sign. If a place serves real Italian beer it must serve at least half-decent Italian, right? Actually, Frankie Primo's is much better than that. The food, decor, and service were all up to snuff, and we had a very enjoyable lunch. As you walk in you're met by a long bar taking up the entire wall on one side with a number of four tops on the left. The wood, exposed brick, and tin-tiled ceiling make for a nice, but casual vibe. We were seated in the back of the restaurant where it's a little more dimly lit. If you are looking for a more romantic spot or for more privacy for a work discussion then this is for you. We started off with beers and Frankie Primo's offers some local options as well as Italian, and more common beers. For lunch, I had the Uova e Tartufo pizza (egg and truffle), which had prosciutto, truffle oil, and a fried egg, and was then covered in arugula. If you're looking for some greens but also want a pizza you'll dig this. The pizza was quite good - super thin, not soggy in the middle. I like my crust to be a little puffier and charred on the edges, but the flavors were good. It's not the best pizza ever (that would go to DiMatteo in Naples or Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix) but I'd have it again. Service was good - neither slow nor rushed - despite our server also having to deal with a large party of 10+. At the end of our meal we enjoyed the complimentary limoncello. Really disappointing. Our waitress had not been fully vaccinated and was wearing a mask that kept falling down and she kept it down. We asked for a different waitress who had no interest in us because she had a big $$$ table and she knew where to focus. She was rushed, rude, and didn't;t listen to us. We could feel her impatience but stuck it out. Also we completely over-ordered as we didn't;t know options.... And finally - the pastas were awful....The sauce was on the bottom,, the pasta was dry and tasteless..... Bad Saturday night. It was an unseasonably cold October night in Buffalo and the last evening of a week's visit there. Frankie Primo's big, cozy wooden bar had one seat left, and it had my name on it. I was immediately presented with friendly greetings from Sam and Alicia (a dead ringer for a young Kate Beckinsale), who treated me with the kid gloves of an old friend, and the friendly patrons next to me became new friends as well. I started with a unique take on a dirty Martini, this one with spicy, cherry pepper juice, tempered with blue cheese olives. Delicious, and the man who invented it, Jack, was just down the bar to provide commentary on its creation. I nibbled on some tasty bread and butter as I perused the menu for vittles. I was hungry; so a starter of artichokes (Carciofi alla Romana) was in order. Yum. For my main, I had a special--linguine with salmon and a tomato cream sauce--which was excellent both as an entrée and as a doggie bag for lunch the next day. While I don't have any plans to revisit Buffalo anytime soon, I wouldn't hesitate to return here on a Saturday night when I need to dine out alone. read more

While in Buffalo attending an event at the downtown Convention Center, Buffalo's "friendly city dwellers" highly recommended this restaurant for an early dinner. I called in a reservation for 12 people...I had to call back and change the time twice....each time the hostess on the other end was very kind and super accommodating. Upon arrival, we were escorted to a lovely table, fully set up for us. Our server James was attentive and professional in every way, allowing us to relax and enjoy our meal together. Each of us ordered a variety of meals which were made fresh and fully flavored. Drinks were tasty and on point. After our dinner we were presented with limoncello and cookies on the house. This New York City group can be hard to please however, I have nothing but high accolades from beginning to end eating in this fine Buffalo establishment!! read more

Frankie Primas, BAM, a perfect evening. We settled in nicely at the bar, and Greg the bartender was nothing short of masterful. I had a half portion of the Bucatini ameritaccianna and their version of a special caesar salad, shrimp laden of course, and I was catapulted to Sorrento. "Mi tesora" enhaled the featured dish of risotto and said at least 3 times. "The food is always so good here." I concurred. An added bonus was having Aarron the owner of the new Bacci Club Ristorante on Hertel, join us from the socially distant other side of the bar, for some lemoncellos. Went with my friend and we were so happy with our meals. We both had a yummy cocktail and ordered the orrenchini for an appetizer. They waitress brought us bread and olive oil dip. I went here on a Friday with a group of friends. This was during November+ so that outdoor seating was closed. The inside is very small and tight. We had a high top+ by the bar and it was tight. Every time the door opened it was very chilly. I was never able to take my coat off. We order a classic pizza for the table. It was very very good, crispy and good sauce. First time being here, this spot is so incredibly quaint. All of the staff were so warm and welcoming. The food was amazing! We ordered the Meatball for an appetizer & Ricotta Gnocchi. The meatball was huge! Paired with chunky tomato sauce, peppers and and snowball of ricotta. I ordered the half portion of pasta, i truly cannot imagine what a full portion looks like as i couldn't even finish my half portion. This place is HEAVAN!! Dad and I had just gotten off miss buffalo and needed some grub. We had been to Frankie's previously just for drinks (dad: this is the greatest place in town they have pistachios) and another time for dinner (Melissa-why haven't you brought me here before?) We sat on a he patio where they had heat lamps which was nice touch i was frozen solid. Their pea and shrimp risotto is out of this world!! Dad got the T-bone which he loved too which was a special. The host was extremely friendly when walking in, just watch your step when entering - The host asked us what our preference was besides just sitting us down, and that says a lot about how she wanted our experience to be. The server, Alex E, we had was also very friendly and knowledgeable to the menu - She provided us with descriptive menu entrees and her favorite; in which, her recommendation and knowledge sold me on the tortellini. It was absolutely amazing. Cocktails were stiff and great! Alex never let our drinks run dry either. After our meal, they provide you with a lemoncello shot and biscuit for a pallet cleanser. I went here for dinner on my birthday and had a pretty great experience! Our waitress was very friendly and helpful in navigating the menu. I ordered the gnocchi, which was a pretty generous portion and flavorful. We also ordered the arrabbiata, which definitely has a kick to it, but is delicious. They had delicious gelato flavors and I got a chocolate peanut butter tart, which was so good. The only improvement I would make would be to add some hearty meat dishes to the menu, it's missing a chicken, steak, veal or pork dish. Additionally, I would recommend sitting in the back area because the bar can get pretty loud. Overall, it was a great experience. read more

Decided to round down for their review. Food is amazing. They have different sizes for their food so you can choose how much you want. The patio is very cute, espeacially if you want to enjoy the nice buffalo weather. However, service wasn't great. We had one menu the entire time we were there between 3 people. We asked for more water and the waitress left with the water pitcher and never came back. We saw the buzzer more times than our waitress. Regardless, trying not to be too harsh because it was my first time here. Hopefully the next will be better! read more

Money is tight for everyone and restaurants have taken a hit but this is price gouging. Disappointing they choose to take advantage of clientele like that in this economic atmosphere. One of my favorite spots in Buffalo! Delicious, consistent, and filling Italian food. From their meat and cheese board to their pasta specials, you will not be disappointed! My family has enjoyed many special occasions at Frankie's and has never left unsatisfied. This restaraunt also happens to have an incredible martini made with cherry pepper brine. Just wow! I came here last Saturday and yesterday (Friday) for dinner. Yes, twice in a week, so it's no surprise I'm giving this place a 5 star rating. We made reservations both times, and I think on a weekend it's highly recommended if you'd like to get seated immediately. On Saturday we were seated at the very front of the restaurant tucked into a corner. Last night we were seated in a high 4-top adjacent to the bar. If you're seated in the front of the restaurant, or near the bar it is a very tight seating situation, which admittedly is a little tough for a tall guy like me. But to be completely honest everything else about this place makes it all worth it. The food here is just fantastic. First off, the bread; fresh baked, has garlic baked in, and served with butter. This bread is phenomenal, I prefer to add a little bit of oil (on the table) and some salt in addition to the butter. Appetizers are probably my favorite part about this place. The arancini we had was very crispy and the prosciutto and peas mixed in made for the perfect rice ball. The sauce they serve with it is not only good to dip your arancini in, but also any bread you have left in you basket (hint hint, save a bit for dipping). Piatto di Salumi for 2 was enough for our party of 4 last night. The meats and cheeses are plentiful and a very high quality. When we came last night they served it with a ghost pepper jelly which was AMAZING, hopefully they keep serving it. The calamari was crispy and had the perfect amount of breading on it, and I also appreciate that the serve it with both marinara and a pesto aioli. The entrees here in my mind are simple, but they do them very very well. The Pollo e Prosciutto "panini" isn't really a panini in the pressed sense but it is a incredible sandwich despite being slightly mislead. The bread is closer to a sub roll, but it is fresh baked, soft, and not too toasty, and the chicken, prosciutto, spicy garlic spinach and asiago are the perfect combination for a sandwich. They are a bit on the samll side for $12, but I'll gladly pay that price again for that great sandwich. The pappardelle with pork sugo and hazelnuts was not my favorite dish in the world, but I'm not going to knock them because it wasn't my cup of tea. Again the quality of ingredients and freshness was present here as well. The tortellini bistecca we ordered without mushrooms (a change they were happy to do) and this was probably my favorite entree. The tortellini was cooked to a near perfect al dente (a little over) and was served with a cream sauce that I'd compare to an alfredo. The ribeye served with it was a good size piece of meat and was cooked to medium rare as per my request. I would order this dish again and again, as it is a great value for $25. Lastly the pizza; we ordered a margarita pizza and the crust reminded me alot of a New York/Jersey pizza crust. Which again, is not my favorite thing in the world, but my fiance and her mom (from Jersey) loved it. The drinks here are a little higher priced, but I guess it comes with the Chippewa territory that they can get $10 for a cocktail or glass of wine. My fiance loved the white cosmo and I enjoyed my mulo bianco as well. The bar is a decent size and looks pretty prime for sitting with a friend and having a drink and maybe an app, or watching a game as they have 3-4 big screens. When we came on Saturday the bar was packed, but on Friday there couldn't have been more than 10 people. In conclusion, they service here was excellent. We never once had to fill our water glasses, they had no problem with bringing over extra bread, and the food was brought out at appropriate times. Each time the manager or owner (not sure which) came over and asked us how our meal was. I've mentioned this in previous reviews, but the extra attention and detail of something small like this sticks with me and I don't understand why all restaurants do not do this. We will be back again and again, and I can not wait to check out their patio in summer! Keep up the good work! read more

The pasta is very good, you can tell it is homemade and very delicious. The pizza was ok, we got Margherita pizza and it was more like a cheese pizza. No chunks of mozzarella and basil that I would expect. The portions were very small, the gnocchi was about half the amount then we expected. They do offer a half size option on the menu and we thought we were given that by mistake and when the check came it was definitely full size price. The amount is not worth the price and $7 more to add chicken and it was about 2 pieces. Also you have to pay for refills on the Coke. Overall the pasta and bread were delicious but i think the size and extra charges are higher than it should be. The decor was more pub like than Italian restaurant but it was still nice. The patio looks nice but even with reservations we could not get a table outside. read more

Wow. Great little patio that doesn't feel like you're on the sidewalk level in the city. Basil and rosemary growing everywhere and so aromatic. The wine list is great from moderate glass to $200 Brunello. Had a 2012 Solengo Argiano for $98 and was great. Server so knowledgeable. Apps were great. Their fresh mozzarella delicious. We had everything from pasta to chicken and zero disappointment. Risotto was perfect. Limoncello at the end of the meal and they make a great Dessert martini. Will definitely be back. On side note- if you want the table side pasta done in the cheese wheel they need 24 hour notice. read more

Yum is all. We went there for an early dinner for my best friends birthday and we decided to order the grilled salmon special. It was the best salmon we ever had. The salmon was nice and thick and flaked nicely. And the Farro that it was on was to die for. They topped it off with grapes cut in half that were warmed, and who would have thought of warm grapes. P. S. Their women's bathroom is pretty cool and unique. Our server, I don't even know her name was she had blonde hair. She was super sweet and when we asked for bread she brought it out and asked if we wanted seconds and who doesn't deny that. Dinner included carciofi (artichokes), salad, calamari, bone marrow and Cacio de Pepe pasta (my favorite). No leftovers! Four people were behind the bar just talking and there was a server next to us helping another table and all didn't even make eye contact with us. So... we left.
