Yummmmy, yummy, yum yum! The pizza was fabulous, the ice cream amazing and the upstairs was such a fun place for the kids to play!

Tried here on our visit to Mendocino. Pizza was ok. Liked the organic soda. The crust of the pizza wasn't the best.

While staying in Mendocino for a week, we went to Frankie's twice! We loved their pizza. Their gluten-free crust is soooooo good. I just wish you could order a smaller size. A 12" is too much for one person. We did not have a refrigerator at our B&B, so I had to toss it out. That was sad.... the first night we visited there was a great reggae band playing, it was so fun. Also the local art they were showing was very cool. I went back to buy a piece when we were leaving, but they were not open for biz. The only downside is there is a little attitude from staff, probably because they are so busy and are asked a lot of strange/dumb questions. Examples of such comments are on the back of the of the chalk board. They are pretty entertaining. read more

Unreal pizza, expresso and candy cap mushroom! Cute atmosphere, outdoor patio. You order at the counter and they bring your food and drinks out to you. I recommend getting a shot of expresso and a scoop of the candy cap and making your pen affogato! The staff is also friendly and accommodating! read more

I wanted to try Cowlick's hand made ice cream, but was never in the area at the right time, so we went to Frankie's who carries it. The black raspberry chocolate chip was probably the best ice cream I've ever had. According to my hubby and little guy, the rootbeer float and cookie dough flavors were also sublime. read more

We came here twice for ice cream on a recent long weekend trip to Mendocino. The ice cream, made by Cowlicks in Fort Bragg, was delicious, but what really brought us back for a second time was the pleasant service we received. The woman in front of us must have asked for samples of 5 different flavors, and the gal behind the counter didn't bat an eye. When it was our turn, not only did she suggest that we try the candy cap mushroom ice cream, but gave us a brief lesson on the local mushrooms. They were also open until 9, when other casual establishments seemed to close much earlier. We sat outside, listened to the local music playing in the dining room, and enjoyed the lovely summer weather. A perfect end to a beautiful Mendocino night. read more

Super Awesome place for Kids! There is an upstairs room with lots of books, puzzles and games. Best mushroom & olive pizza on the coast. Really good Falafel and Gluten Free Lasagna. Salads are extra yummy and can be customized. One should not even bother going to Cowlick's because Frankie's servers give much nicer mini scoops and always put whipped cream and cherry on per request. :) read more

We came in 30 minutes before closing to order a pizza (which can be rather annoying) and everyone was so polite. The food was GREAT too!

We held our very informal wedding rehearsal dinner for our family and friends here. The owners did a great job communicating everything ahead of time (including that they would be out of time during our party) and setting things up according to what we requested. We went in with hopes of getting a decent slice of pizza. We ended up ordering a falafel plate as well as a house salad in addition to two slices of thin crust pizza. We sat upstairs, which was cozy and pleasant. The food was brought out as it was ready and it was great. The pizza was even better than expected with well done thin crust and fresh ingredients. The falafel was good and so was the hummus. The salad was not stingy either and would have almost filled two of us up. The place has a nice casual vibe and good food in a beautiful location. The ingredients are really fresh and the pizza was made perfectly. Completely worth it! It wasn't very expensive either which is a nice change for this city. If you get a 10'' pizza for two, you'll have room for ice cream for dessert which is also incredible. It was the perfect meal. The staff was also really nice. A cutesy find in Mendocino, serving mostly organic fare, including burritos, wraps, ice cream, and a wide selection of pizza. The black bean burrito I ordered was pre-made and as I watched the girl pop it in the microwave I wondered if I had made the wrong choice. It was better than I anticipated, but nothing special. In light of the restaurant's focus on fresh, flavorful fare, the burrito should not have been made in advance. Yet the house salad with maple balsamic vinaigrette, walnuts, cherries, and olives was a tasty, generous portion. Frankie's is dedicated to composting, saving water, and using local ingredients - all redeeming qualities. And there was a friendly guy outside smoking weed with his dog. I expected much more having read the reviews on yelp but the pizza (the Virgin Creek, I think) was very average. It tasted like it hadn't been cooked enough and dousing it with chilli sauce (they don't have mustard) made it taste a little better. The service was polite without being effusive or particularly efficient. It gets an third star just for being one of the few eating places in Mendocino. read more

The pizza was decent, and the pear sorbet was delicious, which is the only reason I gave 2 stars. My group had 2 separate orders, both of which were wrong. I was given half the amount of sorbet that was originally ordered but I was ignored when I tried to tell the gal at the register, so I just let it go because my husband was about to lose it after having to repeat himself several times while ordering. The biggest issue I had was with the work ethic of the guy bussing tables. When we were finished eating, we were discussing whether to take our plates downstairs, but then there was a sign that said to leave everything on the serving tray. The busser happened to come up at that moment and told us that we should just carry it down anyway ourselves, even though we had armfuls of toddlers, diaper bags, and boxed pizza we were juggling. He went down completely empty handed, even after we pointed out that fact. It was just plain rude; we are there to pay for a basic service not do your job for you. (Also as a tip, don't sit upstairs unless you want poorly disciplined children running around your table, screaming, wrestling, hitting you, or knocking your things off your table). read more

Yeah, Gooooood homemade ice cream. Worth every last drip of that $3 a scoop price. The strawberry was excellent. Can't wait to go back and try every flavor. Pizza- thin crust, just like i want. Homemade sauce and toppings; the guy can make pizza. My advice forget the stuffy, expensive and slow resturants in Mendocino and just stop here if you want to eat something good. Pleasantly surprised after average pizza elsewhere the day before. Nothing compares to an actual slice of NY pizza, but this hits the spot. Love that they have pizza by the slice, although the selection is limited. Came out piping hot and delicious. Service was a tad slow despite only two people ahead of us in line, but everyone was friendly. Can people watch from the patio, and they have Cowlick ice cream which is great stuff (although their prices are higher and portions smaller than the Fort Bragg location, which is a bit of a bummer). Went here with my wife and two kids for dinner and a salad. Pizza was decent, but the rest of the experience was miserable. Like the rest of Mendocino, it's been overrun by hippies and liberals. While signing the VISA receipt the girl behind the counter reminded me that their was a tip line. I took the bait and tipped 15% even though much of the restaurant is self serve. They gave me a beer that was different than the one I asked for. The salad showed up with three forks and no plates (we're a family of 4). While sitting at the picnic table outside, a hippy mother and her children obnoxiously behaved in a corner of the deck. It culminated with the kids throwing ice cream at each other. At no time did the restaurant workers make any attempt to shoo them away. Like I said, Mendocino is full of the local hippies and the place has been overtaken. We finally said "enough" before the pizza was ready, and asked that they box it to go. It still showed up 10 minutes later on a pan before we asked again for a box. Next time I'm up this way I'll pass on the entire Mendocino experience and take my money to Ft. Bragg. North Coast Brewery earns it. read more

First time here and blown away by the service. Really great staff: super friendly and accommodating (even though we came in near closing). Plus they are dog friendly! We got the Navarro (a pesto chicken pizza) and the combo and they were both delicious. Plus, since we were eating the pizzas there but also ordered a to-go salad for a friend, they offered to keep the salad in the fridge for us until we were done eating. So nice! Got here just before closing time on a weekday. Both my wife and I wanted coffee, needed coffee, in our veins, if you get me. "We have just one cup of coffee left, and we can't make it a half-caff because our espresso machine is broken." The young laborers were obviously tired after a long shift and ready to be done with it all, but I am once again inspired toward writing my dream-article, "Service Specifics for Young People." 1. Eye Contact. 2. When a customer asks where the pepper is, please don't nod in the direction of the empty pepper shakers on the counter, go get the pepper and put the "serve" in "service" please. Your customers and your tip jar will thank you. 3. Age related engagement: we middle-agers hear just a little bit slower, think a little bit fuzzier as we come in off the dusty trail, and many of us have a tribe of youngun's tackling us at the ankles while we're trying to please our whole party and do it without spending our whole paycheck. We do not need your blaring electronica, your yelling to your coworker in the back about last night's date, or to be treated like a nincompoop because we ask questions which seem a bit, well, stupid to you. Which brings up, there is a chalk board (facing the kitchen, but readable from the eatery) where they've listed a bunch of their favoritist dumb tourist questions (Is that frothy water out there Lake Mendocino? is my personal fave). Funny, all of them, but also a bit haughty in the attitude dept to post idiot customer behavior on the back of the menu, guys. I know I'm over-sensitive, but it adds to the communicating of the unwelcome atmosphere. Food was okay to good. Salad, my wife says, was a work of art. Pizza fair to middlin'. Presented with not just zero fanfare, but as I say, reticence, if that's the word, as in, here, eat this up so I can sweep under your table and close this place down. Bad timing on our part, but hospitality could have been much better. Probably would have been better just to go for ice cream in the middle of the shift, I hear that's their strength. Go for it, I'll be looking for coffee at Fort Bragg next time. read more

A go-to place for my husband and me in Mendocino. We usually split a small pizza (love the Whiskey Shoals Pizza with goat cheese, pine nuts and jalapenos) and a large salad. They have tasty Cowlicks Ice Cream for dessert--sometimes it can be a little soft, but usually it's fine. read more
