So while my previous review strongly recommended Frank's Grille based on the fish fry (and I still remember that fish fry so fondly), I'm here with an update after trying a burger and wings. For bar food, this is as good as it gets! The burger here is one of my favorites in the area (the other being Good Tymes South). The burger here is a bit smaller than the one at Good Tymes, but a bit more polished, especially with the option to get it on a Ciabatta roll (which they toast to absolute perfection). The burger I got was a California burger with avocado, bacon, and lettuce tomato and onion was cooked medium rare to perfection. The Ciabatta roll was toasted perfectly and the bacon was crispy and the burger juicy. Great seasoning too, not overdone with salt, but just right. I'd highly recommend their California burger. The fries that came with the burger were so-so. Not the best, I definitely prefer the ones from Good Tymes as they seem hand cut, but here they seem more like the pre-packaged variety. I also tried some wings and had an order of 10. At $10.99 for 10 wings, it's a little pricey and I'd give their wings a 7/10. 8 or 10 on the sauce for the wings and 5 for value. The wings are OK-sized, certainly not jumbo and at $10.99, it's a bit of a value-stretch, but they are certainly good. So if you're hankering for some wings, I can vouch for Frank's; they're just a bit of a price premium. I simply had the medium but they had a lot of different flavors as well. Here's a line from my previous review about the fish fry as well: "You're asked how you want it (broiled, beer battered, etc.) and what side. You can choose a German potato salad, potato salad, fries, etc. I highly recommend the German potato salad! It also comes with cole slaw, macaroni salad and buttered toast, lemon and tartar sauce. It's a seriously huge plate of deliciousness! Huge portion. The fish was great -- very delicate white meat inside. Perfect with the lemon juice and tartar sauce. The beer batter fry was nice, very hardened shell on the outside and nicely flavored. The German potato salad was the absolute best! Potatoes in a pool of sauerkraut juice (or something of the sort) with bacon on top?! So. So. Good." If you're looking for great bar food and cheap drinks (I haven't tried any, but folks I was with had two pitcher's of beer and it came to around $16-18), Frank's is a great place. "To be treated in such a manner at my age from this staff of individuals was completely rude, disrespectful, and bottom line insulting. " I had asked someone to write this review for me. They had told me it had to be deleted because it was not their own personal experience. Therefore, I created my own personal YELP account so I could express MY personal experience that I had with this restaurant. My wife and I were treated with the most utmost disrespect and discourteous display of behavior that I just cannot believe from this restaurant. I am 64 years old. I have been around the block. I know good food and fantastic customer service. To be treated in such a manner at my age from this staff was completely insulting. Bars and restaurants are just starting to open in our area. Many businesses are struggling due to the pandemic. My wife and I have been looking forward to a fish fry on a Friday night. We decide on this local restaurant even though we have heard negative comments previously. We said "Eh, Let's just give it a shot!" We arrive and the parking lot is full, but we drove to the BACK of the lot and there was a spot open. My wife and I got out of the car and headed into the restaurant. The hostess, who did not greet us with much pleasure, seemed to be frazzled and distressed, said with a rather snarky tone, "Hour and 15 minute wait time."...(understandable because everything is just opening back up.) I said, "No problem, we will absolutely wait." My wife and I walked back to the car. (It's February in Buffalo - about 23 degrees - this walking back and forth nonsense at our age was a bit of a problem, we were disappointed we could not wait inside and had to walk back to our vehicle which was parked in the back park of the lot.) Nevertheless, we decided to sit our car. After an hour and 30 minutes which was over the initial given wait time, we got a notification that our table was ready! We were very hungry and looking forward to that delicious fish fry dinner. Upon walking up to the restaurant, there was an elderly lady walking in. I decided to help her out because the parking lot was extremely slippery. I was very surprised they did not salt or shovel considering we do live in Buffalo. My wife followed us. I held the door open for both her and my wife. The elderly lady walked in and sat down with her family. My wife proceeded to tell the hostess our name to be seated. The waitress said "Sorry, we gave up your table up, you have to be here within five minutes of the notification." She pointed to the women who we had just helped in and said, "She took your table." Now, I found this completely unprofessional. I was in shock! Give up our table! We had just waited an hour and 30 minutes! I was starving! My wife tried to explain to the hostess the circumstances. The long walk from the back of the lot, the conditions of the parking lot, and the fact that we helped another customer into the building. They refused to take any of it into consideration. My wife asked to speak to a manager. We waited another five minutes for someone to come and speak with us. This individual told us the same thing. He said some rather smart remarks, laughed at my wife and said "Would you like to speak to Frank himself?" ..... My wife said, "Yes." He replied, "Well good luck, he died years ago, you need to leave this restaurant." I have never felt so disrespected, ashamed, and HUNGRY in this lifetime. We left and went home. We didn't even end up having anything to eat that night because we were beside ourselves with the treatment we received from this establishment. Terrible Experience - Rude Hostess - Forever to get seated. . Party of 4 went in Friday @ 4:30, figuring early we'd get seated quicker - NOT THE CASE. Hostess told us 30 -40 min, ok no problem we headed to the packed bar. After 40 minutes I asked and they told us we were next table. After an hour, they told us same thing. After 70 minutes the hostess walked by and she told us she's working on it. I told her we've seen several parties going back and she said they had reservations of 5! I told her we have been waiting over an hour, she told me NOT TO BE RUDE ?? WHAT!! Then she told us, we can leave if we want after being there 70 minutes. NOW WHO IS THE RUDE ONE!! By the way after another 10 minutes and finially getting seated, I looked at all the tables in the back and ONLY 1 - had 5 or more people. We had a reservation for 16 + 2 kids. Table was set and ready when we came in. We had 2 waitresses. Both younger brunette girls. They were amazing. Very friendly, helpful and on top of things. They were so very polite. We ordered a variety of food, most of which was amazing. One person ordered the cube steak sandwich and it was so dry and leathery. Could not eat it. A few of us ordered roast beef as this is usually our favorite at Franks. Mine was dry, and overcooked. I told our waitress and she brought me a new one right away. When the check came We realized that we forgot to ask to split the bill. The accommodating waitress said ok and proceeded to cash us out in groups (we felt bad, but she handled it like a champ). When we were almost done paying a middle aged women with brown hair and glasses came in and literally started yelling at us in a VERY nasty tone. "Don't ever come in here again if you don't plan on letting us know you need the bill split, it is rude" I responded with "our servers are amazing, and we are so sorry, but there is no reason for you to come back here and yell at us and be rude." At this point she was screaming and being ignorant. My brother asked if she was a manager, she nastily replied "I have been here for 20 years and trust me you don't want me to go get the owner" as you can imagine we were all appalled by this. We told her we wod never be back and she just lost a lot of regulars. Her response was "thats fine with me" she finally left and we once again apologized to our amazing servers and tipped them very well. After my son went to the bathroom to here said "manager" talking shit about all of us. Worst experience ever! We will NEVER be back and neither will ANYof our family. I go to Frank's probably 1-2 times a year. They have really good Chicken Wings & Beck on Weck - heck you can even order a combo as your entree if you can't decide between Wings or Beef on Weck! This time, I went and ordered the fish fry (which does not warrant the 4 star rating I am giving). The fish fry looks good when it comes out, but boy does that plate, and pretty much everything on it, need some kind of seasoning. One of the driest, most-bland coleslaws you'll ever have, as was the mac salad. The tartar sauce helps add flavor to the fish. With the time to go to dinner here, it's better to go after 6/6:30pm here. You will have a wait before 6pm due to the older-aged crowd heading out to dinner on Fridays. (BEWARE) No Chicken Wings on Fridays due to fryer being used for fish frys - if you want wings, you have to wait until 9pm on Fridays! All in all, this is a good restaurant, one of Lancaster's best. I grew up in Bflo, but moved to Kansas 30 years ago. I always brag about the wonderful food Bflo has to offer. I was told that Franks was a great place to get a good fish fry. This was my first visit to Franks and was looking forward to it. Our waitress was really great. Three of us got the Beer Battered Fish Fry. They were dark and overcooked, and the fish was greasy...didn't taste like any Haddock I ever had. My grandson had a cheese burger which was dark and crunchy on the bottom. Well, a bunch of us went for lunch today. Sat outside on the "porch" and it was nice. Waitress took our drink order, got one drink (tea) wrong, but made it right. Brought straws out after this mishap also. Snapped at one person in our party when she was told that the tea was incorrect. Ordered our meal, she had to come back and ask again about our dressings for our salads. When the meal came it was DELIVERED to the wrong table. Now I personally do not like to see my meal being set in front of someone else and then brought to me. I find that disgusting. Never came back to ask if anyone want more to drink, except the coffee drinker. The salads were good, seemed fresh and plenty of mandarins, walnuts and choice of cheese. Chicken was cooked just right, not dry. The reason for the score of 3 stars was due to the waitress. The 4 of us have decided it was not a good birthday luncheon and prob would not go back. I've been coming to Frank's for years. Lunch, dinner, drinks with friends, it don't matter. They are always on their "A" game. Their beef on weck (in my opinion) has g]ot to be ranked in the top 5 of Western NY. They have a patio during the summer and I heard they are expanding! I ate the meatball appetizer, crock of French onion soup and a burger. Of course, could only eat one of the meatballs. The rest were devoured by my son who was with me. They were the size of a squash/handball! Just a tad smaller than a tennis ball, but boy were they delicious! Homemade sauce, homemade ricotta (what???) And tender as can be. Wow so delicious. Got a fish fry from here and probably one of the best in the Lancaster/depew area. First off the sides are obviously made fresh which is instant points when it comes to fish frys. I'm not sure if the fries are fresh cut (I don't think so) but any fish you get you are asked if you'd like gravy for your fries which is such a nice touch. I absolutely adore Frank's Grille & I cannot remember how I stumbled upon it, but I have been here at least 30+ times since living in WNY, and have recommended it most likely double that. Being a seafood fanatic, I must say, I have always had superior seafood here. My favorite preparation is the blackened, but I must say the cajun is just as delicious. Their Friday fish fry is amazing to boot. Any of their seafood appetizers or entrees are a great choice. I always order from their daily specials, but have had their salads, pizza, burgers, and sandwiches. I can only recall a time or two where something was off, and it was corrected immediately. Bottom line, any choice here is a great choice. Their drinks are good too :) Just a heads up: If you come here on a weekend evening, expect a wait. They do not take reservations, and sometimes the wait can be over an hour, but is well worth it. read more

My husband wanted chicken wings but we were told they do not serve them on Friday. That was not posted anywhere on the website or on the menu. It would have been nice to know that prior to going there. We ordered stuffed peppers for an appetizer which were ok. Our entrees were delivered right on top of the appetizer so they sat and got cold while we finished the peppers. The beef on weck was good. The onion rings were nothing special. Best fish fry in western New York! Beer battered fish is extra crunchy on outside and moist and flaky inside and not at all "greasy". Sides were all fresh and extrodinary. Will definitely return. They also had many other great choices on menu too that I will have to try. read more

Rude. Unprofessional. Disrespectful. Those are just a few words that come to mind when thinking of my experience last night with Frank's Bar and Grille. After a long week at work, my wife and I wanted to relax on the couch and order in for dinner. We searched and searched online for something that we were interested in ordering. We decided on something simple, chicken fingers from Frank's Bar and Grille in Lancaster. We ordered through DoorDash. I selected a single order of chicken fingers with hot sauce, and 3 blue cheese. My wife chose a single order of plain chicken fingers, with 4 ranch sides, and 2 BBQ sides. If you are not familiar with DoorDash and how it is set up to order with Frank's, you select the item you would like to order, and then you add notes. So for us, we selected chicken fingers, and added a note of how we wanted our chicken fingers. Ok, order submitted. The order arrives after approximately 1.5 hours, which was 30 minutes late from estimated delivery time, and the DoorDash driver informed us the order was late due to Frank's not having it ready. Starving, we open up the containers to find that my wife received zero sides of ranch. Her chicken fingers were plain as requested, and received the 2 BBQ sides. I called the DoorDash driver and he informed me that he isn't authorized to go back to the restaurant for an order. He suggested calling DoorDash and/or Frank's. I called DoorDash and they refunded me some money for the error by Frank's. However, this doesn't solve the problem of no ranch sides which is basically everything to my wife for her chicken fingers. I call Frank's to inquire about the ranch sides. What sounded like a younger female employee answered the phone, and then gave the phone to what I believe to be a female manager on shift. The manager asked what my problem was, to which I informed her of the missing items in my order. Not only did she not apologize, she told me that I didn't order any ranch sides. I told her I'm looking at my phone right now and it clearly shows "Chicken Fingers. Plain. 4 ranch dressing sides. 2 BBQ sides." She goes on to deflect blame to DoorDash and says DoorDash calls in the order and they did not tell us about the ranch. Now, what seems more likely? DoorDash calls Frank's and tells them "chicken fingers. Plain. 2 BBQ sides" and just skips right over mentioning the 4 ranch OR Frank's took down the order wrong or just simply forgot to put the ranch in the container? You decide. The manager then asks, ever so graciously, if I would like her to bring me the 4 ranch sides. "Yes, of course thank you!" I gave her my address and she stated, "I'll be there in probably 15 minutes, what is your phone number in case I get lost?" I give her my phone number, and the call ends. We wait patiently for her to arrive. An hour later, no ranch and no phone call. I'm thinking, 'there is no way that the manager told me she'd bring the missing items, take down my address and phone number, and then just completely stiff me, right?' Wrong. What happens next is inexplicable. I call Frank's back and explain that the manager was going to bring me my missing items. The girl tells me to hold on a minute. I hear her yell "Hey, it's the DoorDash guy calling about the ranch what do you want me to tell him..." and I hear multiple people loudly laughing in the background! She gets back on the phone and tells me "We thought you lived in Lancaster, not Cheektowaga, we're not bringing that to you", and abruptly hangs up the phone on me!!! Is this real life? I promptly call back and they immediately hang the phone up on me. I call back again; this time, they answer but set the phone down and nobody comes back to the phone. After sharing this story on my Facebook page, I've learned this is the type of behavior that customers regularly experience with employees of Frank's. Speaking of my Facebook post, shortly after I complained about my experience, someone who appears to be the owner's daughter comments on my post attempting to discredit me and defend the manager's actions. "You ordered through door dash, and they didn't mention you needing extra ranch, nor were you charged. We also offered you a free meal...And we as a restaurant do not deliver, but tried to see if someone could. But obviously being so busy on a Friday, a waitress could not stop what she was doing and bring it to you." This was a sad attempt at damage control. Maybe an apology and a promise of possible discipline of aforementioned employees would have been better warranted. Not to mention, how unprofessional of a restaurant owner's daughter to blatantly misrepresent the events that occurred on a customer's Facebook post. Needless to say, I will never be getting food from Frank's Bar and Grille again. I hope that putting my experience out here will save some of you from having the nightmare experience that I had. They changed the pizza dough :( it used to be the best pizza lancaster. I have always raved about it and everyone who I ever had try it agreed!! This pizza was o.k. But I'm disappointed because I expected it to be amazingggggg (like it used to be). On a positive note I usually get the Texas fries and those are incredible! Frank's is what's best of Buffalo's suburbs. Neighborhood taverns that over achieving. Every day you can eat the standards at the bar. Wings, beef on wreck etc. But they have a crazy menu with hard core southern Italian macaroni, burgers and sandwiches. It's high end tavern food and worth the drive. read more

I've passed by this location often, and wondered if it was any good. It was quite good, all around - and I would definitely go back. The front dining area was kind of loud with the bar right there. My sister requested the back room dining area, but after 45 minutes the request was forgotten and ignored and we were seated in the front area anyway. This was really the only issue. Beyond that the service was friendly, the food was excellent (the menu was varied and interesting - so, it was hard to pick). The price was reasonable as well. We went on an off night, and it was pretty busy - so, I'm thinking they do a great local business all the time. Recommended for the right reasons. read more

Frank's is a wonderful establishment with a enjoyable menu. We had the pleasure of dining in this evening and had a delightful meal. Our waitress, Angel, and the owners daughter, both provided us with stellar service. The food presentation was inviting and the taste was exceptional. There are dining specials everyday and a happy hour that draws a interesting crowd. Tonight's special was eggplant parmigiana with a option of BYOB. There were many tables that enjoyed the option of BYOB. My hubby and I started with the chicken quesadilla. We had requested that Gouda cheese be added to our app and it was delicious. For dinner, I enjoyed the Chef Salad w feta cheese and a grilled chicken breast. A heathy dish that I will be sure to order for take out in the future. My husband enjoyed a Cajun grilled chicken sandwich w Gouda cheese and ranch dressing,(request ranch dressing and you will thank us later). read more

I came here with some family for dinner just once and the food was great. The burgers are huge! I had the California - which comes with avocado, pepper jack cheese, and the regular lettuce, tomato, onion. They offer great portions for a great price, my only reason for giving three stars was because of the service. I hope to go back and update my review but based on my recent experience, I can only give three stars. The server was almost non existent at our table in the very back of the restaurant. The time it took for her to come and check in was so long. Even when she came back she wouldn't refills drinks and left too quickly before we could ask. By the time we were finished it took even longer to get the bill and pay it. Note: It wasn't even slightly busy. If you're a fan of dive bars, tight quarters, overcrowded spaces, extreme anxiety caused by being squished in a corner by large swaths of large people that breathe hot breath down your back while you sit snuggly at your table like a dead sardine marinating in vegetable oil, and good food then Frank's is just the place for you! Frank's Grille is very reminiscent of Grover's in East Amherst: good and cheap bar food with a loyal cult-like fan base of clientele clogging up the throughways of the tiny restaurant. There are, however, a few improvements over the latter. First of, the service is exceptional and incredibly friendly. I ordered take out in sub zero temperatures and the server asked if she could carry it to my car for me. I mean, it was really cold. Planet Hoth cold. Not even the innards of a Tom-Tom would have prevented her from dying from exposure. There is also a small dining room off the main bar area. Doesn't seem to put a dent in the traffic, however. Moreover, don't even think about going near this joint on a fish fry Friday during lent; take-out might be your only option (Grover's often laughs hysterically at your request for take-out and will then hang up on you.) If you do opt for take-out, expect to still wait around in the chaos while the wait staff calmly puts together your order all while those other hungry patrons breathe hot breath on your neck. read more

A family-type restaurant with lots of traditional meals like pork chops and meatloaf, but with a hint of buffalo pub style food, too! Everyone seems to have had the beef on weck... well I didn't! I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and a mojito, both were great (mmm, costanzo's bread!). My dining partner ordered the soup (some sort of daily special chicken chowder) and a grilled chicken salad, which she also enjoyed. Great portions, great prices. The service was fine, and the patio was nice... even though it's attached to the parking lot, there's lot of nice plants and flowers to help you forget that. The one catch... the stuffed peppers were just NOT good. They were stuffed with some weird breading, almost like oily turkey stuffing, with a tiny bit of cheese mixed in. I'm expecting either (a) some sort of guilty pleasure cheesy stuffing or (b) meat and cheese. Instead, they were dry and just... not tasty. I would never order those again! Stay away!
