Oh what a breakfast/brunch!! I was torn between Frank's and the new place next door but I leaned towards Frank's because of the prices and the amount of food they give you. I walked in and took a seat at the bar because I was solo. Sitting at the bar you get a front row seat to the grill and chefs. The chefs were friendly and even sparked a conversation with me. I went with the Chicken fried steak and eggs recommendation. It is a lot of food! With your Chicken fried steak and gravy you get 2 eggs choice of grits or hash browns choice of biscuit or toast. I would suggest grits add cheese and a biscuit. Those biscuits are homemade huge and fluffy! I took my gravy on the side so I could split it over my CFS and biscuit. When I left there I was fill and in no mood to get back to work on a Friday! Now the con to my visit today is parking. Went here recently, placed my order with Cathy. We sat at a table waiting for over an hour for our food. The restaurant wasn't even busy, everyone else around us was receiving food and service except for us. There was no waiter or server to tell us the status of our food or assure us the food was coming. We finally got up and asked to pay just for our drinks and our server said she would pay for the one drink we ordered, and still no word on whether or not they were actually preparing the food or not. I stop by Frank's Grill this morning, I usually go to Tel-Wink, since I had a few errands to run and Franks is near my house I decided to stop, the parking lot was empty so I figure I could get in and out. As I expect the place was not crowed so I sat at the bar and order a simple breakfasts of 2 scramble eggs, grill onion/ bell-peer on top, bacon, hash-brown and grits and toast. After sitting there about 15 min, I notice that my waitress whisper something to one of the cook and he quickly scrape off the plate the two egg over-easy and stated to prepare scramble egg. When I finally got my plate notice that the egg were over cook and the grill onion/ bell-pepper were mix in the eggs, not what I order, I ask the waitress to fix the order. The waitress brought the plate back to me in about 7 min only to discovered that now the grits were cold, I the waitress over and told here and her response was I bring you a bowl of grits. By the time I was over Franks, I told her never mine and I just did not eat the grits. This place really don't care, they have lots of people working there but the could careless what kind of service the give, out of 5 orders are wrong, I know I will never do business with them again. read more

Great place to grab a bite to eat! Whenever I get a chance to visit Texas I love coming to this local shop. First off the restaurant is spacious and lots of room so I don't feel like I'm cramped when I sit down. The owner also greets me every time I see him and gives me a great smile. The servers and cleaners are always super friendly and really give me that old timey restaurant business thats perfect for families, old couples, and even young children to accommodate! They have the most amazing fried chicken in a huge portion for a great price. I've had the eggs as well and they're top notch for the price! I never leave this place feeling not satisfied or full I'm always stuffed. Not sure what the other reviews are talking about with the smell I have never noticed that but sure there could be some off days I understand. But this place has never failed to disappoint me and I will continue coming here every time I get a chance to! read more

This morning I checked out Frank's Grill for breakfast. Their motto is "The best breakfast in Texas ". My usual go to for Sunday breakfast is Waffle House but I've driven by Franks for years and decided to check it out. Walked in and the place was busy, lots of conversations over piping hot coffee and full portions on the plates. The wait staff was prompt to greet me at the front door and say hello and good morning. I was taken immediately to my requested table and given a clean menu. My water came in record time by my waitress. She was very friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be taking care of me. I opened my menu and started checking out the breakfast fare. The options were typical breakfast choices that you'd see in a American style diner. Eggs, bacon or sausage, biscuit or toast, hash browns or grits. I also saw chicken & waffles, breakfast burritos and pancakes and breakfast sandwiches. The prices were good. A typical 2 egg breakfast with bacon or sausage, toast or biscuit, grits or hash browns was $7 and some change. That's what I was going to order. I wanted to compare what I'd order if I'd gone to Waffle House. Now first thing straight off the bat I need to say is most places can scramble an egg, cook bacon, sausage and toast bread without offending your palate. A no brainer. I'm wanting to see how they compare to what I consider the pantheon of hash browns that is Waffle House. A quick refresher on the anatomy of a Waffle House hash brown; first its in patty form. Not pre made and frozen into shape, it's pre shredded potato that's cooked to order by first drizzling a oil & butter on a hot skillet, then they put a stainless steel ring on the skillet and the shredded potato is put in to fill the ring, giving it its prefect size and shape. Once a good crust is made its flipped once until golden brown and crispy on both sides. The interior light and fluffy. The gold standard in my opinion. Now back to my review on Frank's Grill breakfast. I ordered the 2 egg combo that comes 2 eggs any style. I always choose scrambled. I also chose sausage, biscuit and of course hash browns and I normally never order a glass of milk but today I did. My order came back in a satisfactory time frame. It was presented to me with only one issue. My waitress brought me bacon instead of patty sausage. No big deal, I reminded her she was gracious in her apology and in a flash she was back with my correct order. She asked me if I needed anything else and said she'd be back in 5 minuets to see if I needed anything. I checked out my plate, it wad a healthy portion. They must use jumbo eggs because I've been to places and 2 eggs must have been hatched by tweety bird. Good portion size on the eggs, nice thick patty sausage the biscuit was ginormous, at least 2 inches thick, coated with melted butter on top. I first thought omg this is going to be dense and gummy. I was pleasantly surprised. It was quite fluffy. I now started my initial critic of the hash browns. Good portion I noticed not perfectly symmetrical and uniform like WH, they reminded me of hash browns my mother made. Portions of crispy bits mixed with softer tender bits of potato. That's actually how I make them at home to this day. It was a good looking breakfast. The eggs were perfectly cooked just soft enough with no brown edges. The sausage though thick was cooked throughout and the right amount of flavor, the biscuit was fluffy and I had to eat it with a fork because it was just to big even when I cut it in two. Good flavor and texture. I was right about the hash browns tasted like my mother's hash browns just a tad dryer than my moms. I think they spared the oil to reduce calories. My moms would collect a sheen of yummy oil on the plate after eating them. The milk wasn't icy cold but it never is at any restaurant when the cooler doors are constantly being opened. No biggie. As promised my server was prompt to return in the time frame she promised. I was even greeted by I'm assuming the general manager, he made the rounds to every table and asked how everything was going and if I needed anything else. That was a pleasant surprise. I finished my meal not cleaning my plate but was very satisfied and full. My plate was cleared quickly as not to be staring at my in eaten remains and dirty paper napkins. My check came soon after my tab was $10.74. Excellent price for the portions and quality of food. My server took my credit card returned, told me thank you for coming and have a great day. I signed the bill and left. Overall I had a good experience at Frank's Grill. Very friendly staff, great service and the food was very good. I still consider WH the best hash browns but Frank's reminded me of my mother making us breakfast and now that she's gone anyway I can invoke memories of my mother's cooking is a good thing. I will return to Frank's Grill and next time I'm bringing my dad. read more

Would have been 5 stars because food was GREAT. Just moved to Texas and first time here. Came on Veterans Day in which im a Veteran. Packed house but I wanted to sit at bar. Soon as a couple got up I sat down and Dericka approaches me and my friend and says sarcastically "You guys dont me to clean it off!" As a server, it really bothered me . I would of course be more than patient and out of the way for the busser to clean off the bar. All she could've said was "I will get this cleaned off for you" because it was busy somebody was going to already try and take the seats. This attitude was unacceptable especially for my first time. I will say this is my second time dining at Franks Grill, the first was back in November and I had the chicken fried chicken and waffle. My portion was HUGE and it tasted good loved the waffle. I dined in that time. The second time it was ok I had two pancakes, and the turkey and cheese omelette. I would have loved my omelette but it was made with American cheese, and I prefer cheddar just a personal preference. It was still good! My pancakes were huge, and I will say I preferred the waffle. I think it was because I got it to go, and its just something about putting pancakes in those styrofoam containers that change the flavor. All in all I would definitely go back. Just finished bkfst. Bacon, coffee and toast were the highlights and the items done right. Half of plate filled with hash browns likely to make up fir the really small eggs. Ordered over easy eggs and got one over hard with the second egg having a broken yolk. Got a second egg, cooked between over hard and medium, after mentioning the broken egg. Note to chef- over easy means the yolk runs when cut open! I did enjoy the atmosphere and the camaraderie between the employees. read more

I had Frank's grill a few years ago, and it was fantastic. So today we decided to visit again. I must say, the place has let it self go. I will start with our server. He started off great, but left us hanging. We placed our order, received our drinks. Another person working in the diner saw us and brought our food to us. An hour after we finished our meal I had to walk over and ask him for our ticket.He seems so pre-occupied. The rest of the staff was amusing to watch. There was a lot of eating over the food that was being served. The cashier decided she had to have a chicken wing , while ringing up customers. Another lady was eating grits and shouting orders. Then there was a lady with a sandwich eating just outside the cook area? Now I am not expert, but I am pretty sure this is not serve safe. But needless to say the food was just as bad. In the past it was wonderful. Today it taste like everything was microwaved. Bland and not appealing for the price at all. They have lost me as a customer. I am not sure if it is under new management but some how, what was great about Frank' s is lost. You get better service at Denny's. read more
