I have tried this place for it's pizza a few times and thought it was very good. But I went in recently to pick up a pizza and when I walked up to the counter, I noticed an employee next to the counter, using a curling brush on the hair of another employee, next to the food prep area a few feet away! I was a bit surprised to see this, but she continued curling the woman's hair like it was okay to do there. Kinda cringeworthy and definitely a health code issue. I ordered 4 flavors for my son's football team for their post-game dinner- cheese, pepperoni, margarita, & Staten Islander. The Team enjoyed them. Even a coach who doesn't like pizza had 2 servings of margarita. Our Head Coach noticed how good the crust is right away. FPJ is generous with toppings. Their pies are not greasy or salty. I called them before placing the order on Grubhub and the lady on the phone was very helpful. We decided to order from Frank's last night and had it delivered by Postmates. The delivery was flawless and when I opened the pizza and the spaghetti it was kismet. They both looked like the NYC spaghetti and pizza I used to get in the city...New York City. After two decades of missing out on good old New York City pizza, I finally have a place here in San Diego that does New York pizza right! For those from / or familiar with late NYC nights getting off of a Penn Station train or one from Grand Central, and snagging a hot slice of pepperoni or plain cheese pizza for your jaunt home, Frank's pizza is nostalgic! Pick up the slice, add your sprinkles (Parmesan, Hot Pepper Flakes and/or Oregano), fold the beauty in half and nosh away in delight! The spaghetti was fantastic! It was nothing fancy but the most delicious meatballs, sauce, and a real fresh baked large dinner bun. The meatballs were seasoned to perfection, not bland, not too salty, just like a loving mamma's cooking. The dinner bun, was the size of a hoagie bun. It had a thin light crispy shell protecting the warm soft inside full of light fluffy bread. For those familiar with great French bahn mi buns, it's similar to those, just a teeny tiny bit denser...just a teeny tiny bit. Even the ratio of meatballs to sauce to noodles was perfection. There's plenty of great restaurants and food to delight any foodie in San Diego. I have certainly enjoyed lots of them, but there will always be a warm place in my heart for authentic New York pizza and folks, Frank's pizza is on point!!! read more

5 stars to this gem. I realized how bomb this place was the day after Christmas when they were closed and i was really craving a sandwich! My mom and I get the turkey club. one of the best sandwiches I've ever had to be honest from quality to freshness. I always add mustard or hot sauce. They have a rad happy hour 22 oz for $6.00. I have tried their marinara spaghetti and that was super super good, i try to get the sauce on side however with bread. Just got a couple of take out pizzas. The chef was wearing a mask under his chin. His mouth and nose were not covered. A young man was sitting at the bar, apparently waiting for a pizza. Oh no~! I guess I didn't read the fine print as I called up this local pizzeria and order a medium pepperoni half sausage pizza and a side of medium wings. I have driven past Franks time and time again but never had the opportunity to drop by. Tonight though, tonight I needed some pizza to pair with a 2007 blend I had picked up in Little Italy the night before. So I grabbed my Yelp app and took flight. My fingers flapping away for the best pizza in the area. As I arrived to Frank's just as the clock struck the twenty minutes expected wait time I noted that it looked very clean from the outside. Through the window I could see a couple and some families having a good time and eating their meals. As I entered I was shocked to find a dainty and very clean bar to the left and the pick up desk just straight ahead. The staff behind in the visible kitchen working away on others meals as I was greeted at the pick up desk. I know, don't hate me, but I grabbed it to go. The ambience was noted and I would return simply for that. As I peeled open the box top it hit me. New. York. Style. Dang. I'm not a fan. I grabbed a few slices hoping for the best and found the toppings of my first slice sliding off into the grease pool below. That's okay. I eat my toppings last anyways. Im weird like that. I chewed into the crust and was sorely disappointed. No flavor. No character. I grabbed my fork and went after the toppings. The sausage had the slightest hint of heat as the pepperoni was just too over done for my pleasure. The cheese was greasy and not very flavorful either. The sauce stung through each and was the pies saving grace. I continued on with my meal and broke open the tin of wings. Wings. My kryptonite. As I opened the pack of ten with medium seasoning I was surprised to find healthy cuts of carrots and celery. Thick with crunch. The wings are the type that are hard on the outside, dry on the inside, and covered dripping with more sauce than is truly necessary. I know there are plenty of people that love this style of wing. Just not me. While I am certainly not the biggest fan of the foods I sampled tonight, what would be a two star rating was saved by the sauce and ambience. I would return to enjoy a cold one with some friends if they were in the area, but unfortunately I don't see myself coming back for take out again. read more

Easy parking. Nice interior. Friendly service. Good value. The Made Man pizza is 5 meats sausage, meatball, pepperoni, canadian bacon (ham), and bacon. Pizza looked good when it came out after at most 20 minutes. I got the medium (no small available - but slices and ravioli... are available). All the meat obviously adds grease and the bottom of the crust can get wet and a bit floppy. ai like the tables, music. I'd like to try the ravioli rosso next time. I'm a fan and will be back but its a bit of a drive for me and I need to order two small things to eat rather than one big pizza. read more

Trip #1 - Burnt pizza. Friend kept telling me to go back. Trip #2 - Hair in my pizza!!!! Approx 4" hair that was mostly on top but made it under some of the cheese. I can understand an honest mistake. I decided to call and let them know. And now for the mistake that shows lack of customer service training and blatant disrespect of a customer, I said that there was approx a 4" blonde piece of hair in my pizza. The very first thing that was uttered out of her mouth was, "We don't have any blondes that work here." She followed it up with I will relay it to the manager so you can get your free pizza. Ummm. Excuse me miss but I didn't call for a free pizza. I didn't have time to go back down there. Her phrase was as if I was some degenerate that was looking for a freebie. Bad move!!! When I told my wife she told me that the hair looks more light brown. I said that I really don't care, the comment should have never been made. A little tip to the young lady. Assume responsibility and just apologize. You never apologized for the MISTAKE. As for this pizza which wasn't burnt like the first one, I will say that the quality of the ingredients are good. The preparation of this New York style pizza was lackluster. It was saturated with grease which caused soggy crust. There was no "snap" to that first bite. It was mush. I'm truly bummed by this experience. It looks like this place is onto something here but the employees are not allowing the owner to shine. I have a feeling that the owner has the product and the vision but the employees are dropping the ball. Unfortunately I can't go back. I would have knowing the ingredients are good, but the customer service rep just blew it. In response to your reply: I could do a long drawn out post but I won't. Thanks for your quick response. Thanks for your 2 apologies. Thanks for the offer of food and drinks. And finally, thanks for not taking personal responsibility for the hair in my pizza. I don't care about who works there and their hair or lack there of. There was a hair in my pizza. It was not mine or my families. Period. The hair was not just laying on top. It was threaded into the cheese with 2 separate spots rising above the surface. Get off your pride train. Mistakes do happen. Geez!! FYI - In your future endeavors please remember that if a customer calls to complain about ANYTHING, the response is really simple. I'm sorry. What a horrible mistake. What would you like for me to do to rectify the problem?? Your pride will be your downfall. And no thanks on your offers. I wanted something other than Mexican food today and decided on some Pizza. Been here a few times and have only had there antipasto salad to go. Today, I wanted something more fulfilling. I decided I wanted a slice of pizza and some salad. I asked if they sell pizzas by the slice and thankfully they do. You have four types of pizzas to choose from. Margherita, Pepperoni and Sausage, Cheese and pepperoni. I ordered the pepperoni and sausage and a small Caesar. My salad came out first. The romaine lettuce was cool and crisp and they put just enough croutons and Parmesan cheese. They were a bit light on the dressing, so I had to ask for more, which they quickly and gladly accommodated. My pizza arrived nice and hot. The crust was neither thin nor thick, it was a standard thickness one would expect. It was crispy yet doughy. The cheese was nice and gooey. The saltiness from the sausage and pepperoni added to the flavor of this pizza. Overall, my lunch was delicious and filling which is what I was looking for. read more

I'm obsessed with the fact that I can write my reviews as there happening so I can tell you like it is right as its happening. I will however soon take a creative writing class so that my reviews are not just to the point but exciting at the same time! I talked My mom into coming out to eat with me and when I get her to agree to something I got to make sure it's close and it's fast. Luckily I heard about Frank's from my brother and it was exciting to know there was a new pizza joint that wasn't a Pizza Hut in my neighborhood! My first impression was cool.. looks like New York City pizza joint and there was sign outside that said slice house. i was waiting for someone to tell me to hurry up and buy in a new york accent but unfortunately that didn't happen. We walk in about 9 o'clock and the place I think closes at 10 and immediately told us that their chef was gone and they didn't have pieces by the slice so we had to order something off the menu :( they didn't have any small sizes of pizzas only one size all of them more than $20 a pie. Unless you want to just cheese which was $18. I wanted to order the blue cheese wedge salad but they didn't have any blue cheese dressing that night either. Wah :( I was expecting to see some pizza by the slice to see what I wanted to eat you but it wasn't like that. There was some cool decor all over the place. We were little confused because there was so many people sitting down we didn't notice the counter where you order so we ended up sitting at the bar and then they told us you got to order at the counter and then it's full-service after that. I ordered Greek salad, hot wings, rosemary fries and a jersey turnpike torpedo. My bill with the tip was about $32 so I assumed everything was on the bill. We got a salad first then our chicken wings and then the guy at owner looked at me and said hello what is Wayfare Jametta my gap but I got some fries two and his endless in like a son who is the registered and put on the bill. Just send him back and asked me if I wanted to order the fries after I told him forget about it and then they ended up bringing me that I'm on the house which I thought was really sweet of the owner. You know when I walked into the place is filled with people and then I realize that it was the family of the owner and his kids and his relatives and you know really having a good field to the place. The salad was good just a little salty and the wings were great a little dry the sausages sandwich was huge which was awesome but it was extremely salty. All in all I think this place could be a little better but I guess it will do read more

You walk into this place and really does feel like a NYC pizza joint! Brick walls, draft beer, and beautiful pizza pies. All the ingredients are fresh and the joint is family owned. The owners are kind and funny and very welcoming. They care about their customers and product! One of their daughters even bakes her own cake pops! They are very delicious! All I can say is WOW! From the impeccable service to the fantastic food this place is definitely 5 stars. Came here on a random whim and was thoroughly impressed. The two teenaged girls that were working the front were so nice and spunky. They were so friendly and helpful in making our order to go. The overall atmosphere was so nice and light and really gave in to the NY style pizzeria. Had the special with a slice, a drink and a side salad which was the perfect amount of food for lunch. I ordered a pizza for myself and my colleagues today and it was the most DISGUSTING thing I've ever seen or tasted.
