I came here because it was the only place open past 10pm in this area. I walked in at 10:10pm and it already looked like it was closed. The lady behind the counter touched the pizza with her fingers to put it in the oven. These are the same fingers she used to take our money and count the money in the register. I was extremely repulsed. That is completely unsanitary. She should have used gloves or a spatula and washed her hands. Another Lady was spraying the pizza display glass with windex, and I personally witnessed the spray go onto the pizza underneath, as the display was not closed. The pizza had windex on it. 3.5 stars... Frank's is half typical NYC style take-out pizza counter with premade pizzas, garlic knots, rice balls, and so on, and half waitress style restaurant. My girlfriend's family put an order for 3 pizzas on a busy night so they told us it would take 45min, it actually took a little over an hour so there's no extra points for efficiency, especially considering they're working with three giant pizza ovens. The pizza was average suburban type pizza, really nothing special. Still the service and prices were good and there wasn't too much to complain about so if you're in the Oakland area and want some decent Italian food or pizza, I would recommend Frank's. read more

Frank's has the absolute best grandma pie in the world. I'm addicted to it. I also like their sausage & broccoli rabe appetizer. The only complaint I can say about this place was that I had once ordered a pie to have it delivered to my boyfriend's house. My boyfriend called to tell me that it still hadn't arrived an hour later. I called to check on it and whoever was on the other end of the line (I think it was the owner) started telling me that it wasn't delivered yet because I called back and told them not to deliver it until 8pm. I said, "If I did that, why would I be calling now to wonder where my pizza delivery is? It's 7:30." He said that the person who called to ask for a late delivery ordered and broccoli rabe and sausage pie and I was the only one who ordered that. We were starving- I did not call for a later delivery. Well, unfortunately, here we are again with Franks earning less than a star if I could put that on here. I called to order dinner and when delivered, the sandwich that is ON THEIR MENU was not delivered. The girl who answered had a difficult time initially finding what I ordered and then said, "okay, I see it." The sandwich was their roasted red pepper, fresh mozzarella, and proscuitto. It was delivered without proscuitto. I called back to state that the order was incorrect and the same girl answered, telling me, "oh that must be a custom order." I explained that we've ordered it many times before and it is ON THEIR MENU. She once again said (after a few minutes), "Oh yeah, I see it. Did you want them to deliver it or...?" I said of course, "We'd like the sandwich we ordered and we have this one ready to go back. " My husband just answered the door and would you believe they CHARGED him an extra 2.50 for THEIR MISTAKE! Done with this place...and that's saying a lot since there are very few places now without our fave, Oakland Pizza! Guess we'll be rolling in the Franklin Lakes area from now on! I feel like i get ripped off every time i order online from here. Twice I've ordered a margarita pie to only receive a plain cheese pie or a plain pie with fresh mozzarella on top of the normal cheese literally lbs of cheese. When i called to complain its "tell us next time and we will credit you." Today they only delivered half my order so my family is eating without me while i wait for my ice cold pizza to get here. I'm tired of pizza places that omit the traditional trifecta of dough, sauce, and cheese from a pie but do not state this on their menu. For example, if I order a four cheese pizza and it arrives as a white pie with four cheeses. Menu did not say "white pizza," so I assume it has sauce. So let me get to Frank's. If I see a Fried Calamari pizza on your menu for $26, I am picturing crust, sauce, cheese, and fried calamari. Sounds awesome, right? Well, this image was shattered when I opened the box to see just crust and sauce with a boat-load of calamari. I appreciate the ridiculous amount of calamari, but your menu should make mention of the fact that this pie lacks cheese. I would have gladly paid extra on top of the ridiculous price of this pizza to fulfill my fantasy. Frank's is mediocre. Typically, I will order just entrees from here because they are consistently good, and they give you a decent amount, enough for two meals. I throw away the side salads because they almost always contain some old, wilted pieces of lettuce. Their sandwiches are lackluster and I have found the pizza to be inconsistent and not clearly defined on the menu. If there's no sauce or cheese on the pizza, tell me! Don't get my hopes up and then tear them down when I open the box. Also, I have had some service incidents with delivery. Once, a chicken Marsala pie arrived but all the sauce, chicken, mushrooms, and cheese were smooshed to one side of the pie. When I called to let them know, instead of telling me they would immediately send a new one over, I was asked, "How bad is it?" and "What do you want us to do?" Followed with, "Did you eat any of it yet?" Seriously? Do you need me to send you a picture? Do you want to come inspect it before you do something about it? Do you want me not to touch it so that when you deliver a new pie, you can take it back and send it to the lab for testing to figure out what went wrong? When I told the gentleman that I wanted a new pie, he told me it would take at least an hour and a half. I'm sorry, but I just waited an hour for your food, and now I should wait an hour and a half longer. I told him just to give me a refund, which to his credit, they obliged. Also, I have had to, more than once, call the restaurant after receiving delivery because they forgot an item I had ordered. This place is hit or miss. Sometimes, it's a good experience that convinces me to order again, but normally the nuisances and disappointments that come from ordering Frank's overshadow. They always mess up the order somehow. Whether I get linguine instead of angel hair or angel hair instead of linguine. Sometimes, I even get and pay for a pizza I didn't even order. It's a little ridiculous. I like their food, but they need to get their act together if I'm gonna keep ordering from them. Ordered again, and the order was wrong....again. Not surprising, but that's the last time I order from them. Too bad because I do like their food, but it doesn't make up for their inability to ever get an order right. read more

Let me start by saying that I was born and raised in Northern Jersey, my husband was born and raised in NY. We moved to the DC metro area a few years ago, so when we go back to NY/NJ to visit family, we try to grab some "real" pizza. We tried ordering for delivery tonight at 9:10pm, (they're open until 10pm according to their menu), and we were told that they only deliver until 9:30pm. When we pointed out that it was only 9:10pm, we were told that it was slow, and they didn't feel like paying the delivery guy. I tore up the menu. If your delivery guy doesn't show, or you have an emergency, I can forgive closing early. If you're just cheap and unreliable, you've lost my business. Update: Was nearby and lazy, and decided to give this place a chance again. Got a hot chicken sub, and once I got home, had to actually cook it. The cheese hadn't even been melted. Franks Pizza is a franchise pizza/Italian restaurant. The current chef owner of this Franks is making a sincere effort to give you a great dining experience at a modest price. While there are booths and tables in two dining room sections, and you will find the local HS kids eating here, adults can enjoy exceptional preparations of American Italian. I'm sorry I didn't photo our dinners this evening. An order of Shrimp Scampi and an order of Calamari Calabrese with Arugula Salad. Everyone makes shrimp scampi, this preparation was actually pretty when it was brought to the table. A fine julienne of cooked broccoli rabe stems was mixed into the al dente linguine giving the dish a nice touch of summer and bit of a bite to offset the thin garlic slices in the butter wine sauce. The shrimp were very big, and bright pink and arranged around a human sized portion of pasta. The tender fried calamari (some tentacles) were crusted in semolina and basted with a light cream sauce, while the fresh arugula was adorned with roasted peppers, shredded Parmesan cheese and drizzled with a balsamic reduction. The sweetness of the balsamic was a nice compliment to the peppery greens. We sopped up the scampi sauce with the gratis bread on the table, that was served with green olive oil that had poached garlic cloves in it. With drinks, this was a modest $30 before tip. They have dinner specials which can be truer Italian. Tonight there was a lamb ragout. I've had pasta dressed with olive oil, walnuts and orange in the past. We've eaten here many times, and have never had anything that we could characterize as bad. While most of the fare is typical American Italian, and pizza is of course the big item for many customers, the dinner entrées are very good and are a good value, as this place is competing with many higher end Italian places within just a few miles.. Many people BYOB. In our experience, the fried appetizers have not been greasy, the subs are shareable if you're not a teenager), and the pasta dishes a fine choice for dinner. Chicken Tortellini soup tastes like your grandmother was in the kitchen and is one of my favorites in the winter. Wait staff is generally young, but pleasant and try to make sure that you have what you need, but can of course become a bit overwhelmed when the restaurant is full. The owner has been coming out more often to check on your dinner and your experience. There is also a Frank's in our own town, but it's become a bit tired, the food isn't as well prepared,. Great place to stop for lunch as they have a lot of different things to chose from right out of the case and always very good. But one problem is if you order off the menu they are very prone to mistakes. Tonight's mistake will probably make it the last time we go as a personal pizza was ordered with pepperoni, sausage and onions and they put peppers instead of pepperoni. Sent it back and they just took the peppers off threw pepperoni on it and threw it in the oven. Then they sent out a pizza that was burned and still tasted like peppers. So the upshot is if they Get it right from the start it is good, but there is a 50/50 chance it will not be right. read more

For delivery I'm going to warn you, I would have given 0 stars. Which is really unfortunate because I would give 5 stars for eating in the restaurant. Pick-up is hit or miss. I placed a delivery order today for 2 sandwiches, 2 beverages, and an order of French fries. I specifically asked for lemon iced tea. I received sweet tea, which no one in the household will drink since its vile. I called just to say that it was delivered wrong, hoping to perhaps get credit on a future order. The girl (very pleasant, helpful, and professional) who answered insisted that it be corrected. Delivery driver comes back a while later, visibly moping his way to the door (meanwhile he isn't your typical teenage kid, this is a sixty-something year-old man), and proceeds to essentially throw a hissy fit rivaling a toddler. I explained that I requested something different than I received, to which he replied he is not the one who took the order. I'm not sure how blaming your coworker makes it better? Maybe go be grumpy and childish to him? He then states he had to drive 20 miles out of his way. Ummm... I looked. Its 4.4 miles. If he rounded up to 10 miles (from 8.8 round trip), then fine. But if we are including the initial trip to deliver the food, then piss off. Any time I've eaten in the actual restaurant, the food has been great and the service at night has been wonderful. (The woman who waitresses lunch shifts on weekdays is in her upper 70's and has an attitude that makes it clear she is not happy. Ever.) Pick-up is usually ok, but I've gotten orders wrong a handful of times. In the future I will make the journey (20 miles uphill both ways, on foot, in the snow) to pick up food instead of delivery (and check my food in the restaurant before I leave.) He gave us a great deal on the last of the pizza, which was delicious (even if we hadn't been starving). The dining area is beautiful. HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! Rude staff!! First time we ordered, we picked up the order and something was missing from the order when I arrived. The young woman at the register rudely said, you must not have ordered it. I was pretty sure that I did order it, but even if so it was no reason to be rude. Second time we ordered, we had it delivered. We informed the people when ordering that we had a coupon, they said the driver would take care of it. When the driver arrived he said he didn't know what to do with the coupon. In addition they again had forgotten something, (My daughters dinner) Again, we were positive that we ordered it because, we made a list and I heard my husband say the item that was missing. When we called, again the person that answered the phone, a young man, said you must not of ordered it; it was not in the order. We wanted thebecause it was our daughters dinner. And then they would not deliver it. We will be bringing our business else where. My recommendation to the owners is to train their staff on customer service. read more
