This place is walking distance for me, so I ho here once a week or more. I typically order their chicken breast sandwich, it's pretty large with good taste. Other places I have gone to, the chicken breast is tough. Not sure if the other places pre-cook the chicken breast, but the texture and flavor at Franksville is much better. Ot maybe Franksville just gets better quality chicken. Prices are a little steep. I've also had their burgers, chicken souvlaki and taco salad. The recently removed their daily specials, which is a shame as I would go when certain items were the special of the day and you could get them slightly cheaper. If you have not tried their BBQ Ribs, you've got to try a slab. Just fantastic! The ribs fall off the bone and the sauce is delicious. Ribs come with french fries and bread & butter. This place is overpriced and their food sucks. The inside looks old and dingy the staff is rude especially in the drive-through. I've tried this place a couple of times and every time I've gone somethings wrong somethings missing somethings cold and the food taste like shit. Franksville is located on Harlem Avenue with an eye catchingly vintage sign of a hot dog train being driven by a Bing Crosby looking conductor. Walking in I noticed a Vienna Beef Hall of Fame plaque on the well and thought I'd be in for a quality hot dog. I waited patiently for my food to be ready and was served a hot dog with all of the appropriate ingredients on a plain non-poppy seed bun. For the price I was a little surprised by the plain bun, but not entirely discouraged. The slice of the pickle was definitely thicker than I would have liked, and as I bit into the hot dog the gargantuan pickle flavor overwhelmed the rest of the taste of the hot dog. The mustard and relish were only sparingly applied though the onions were chopped and properly complimented the hot dog. Overall I can't recommend Franksville, I was definitely disappointed with my hot dog experience here. read more

I'm slightly surprised at the lukewarm reviews for Franksville. For me (a person who grew up in near-by Elmwood Park), it's always delivered as expected, and done so well! I have no issue with the gryos or the chicken pita for that matter -- to me, they are served up perfectly. The onion rings are great -- the onions actually stay in the battered coating when you eat them, instead of sliding out! But my favorite thing about Franksville are the shakes... and the MALTS. Hard to find a good, true malt nowadays. But they have 'em! OK, one more thing... I like that I don't have to get out of my car (drive-up window). Hmmmm... Does that make me a lazy ass? This is a cute spot I have passed by many many times over the years. Today we stopped in and both opted for the hot dog special (imagine that). They were good basic Chicago style dogs, though the standard seems to come with neither sport peppers or celery salt. I didn't ask about that however, so I don't know if they will add it upon request. The fries were nice and crispy, but I think best eaten on site, rather than as a carry out. The prices seemed reasonable and the place was clean. We will have to try some other items in the future, but for now, our experience was A-OK. read more

This place is so close to home and everyone here is always friendly especially the owner. Makes me feel like family. Hands down they have some of the best chicken ever, if it's on a pita, or in a form of a kabob or gyro it's delicious. Another 4 Star experience here! 3rd time in 3yrs, 2nd time in a week! Gyros-Great flavor, nice texture, but I am used to a little more meat & slightly more crispy. that being said, I'll take Quality over quantity any day, and rather not crispy than too crispy and dried out. Best Gyros experience I have had West of Pulaski! ILTACO brand Pizza Puff-Simple, yet fried perfectly which is easier said than done. Fries-While still not fresh cut, they are growing on me....As good as frozen fries get in my opinion. Not mushy, not salty.....Just right! Keep up the great work Franksville! Two words - SUPER TACO! These guys make the best one around. Their cheese fries are also my favorite. I've been going here my whole life(35yrs) and have probably had about everything on the menu. Don't pass the Taco Bell to get a taco here. Wow, I have never had such a bland taco. There was no seasoning of any kind on the meat so if you declined the sauce to add on then you got no flavor. The taco shell was also stale. No shortage of meat, lettuce and cheese though. The hot dog was fine. The pizza puff was fine, exactly the same a I have gotten at other places, so nothing special. Always drive past this place but finally decided to give it a try. The interior is not that much to look at, has been a round a while, one can see the history. Next the menu is alright, should you what they have, a little messy but the food looked good. The person taking the ordered struggled with her English a little as I asked a few questions. There seemed to be to many cooks in the kitchen just standing around watching people as the ordered, a little creepy but ok. I waited for the for the food for about 10 min. Everything looked good. This place is hands down in the top 3 places I could not live without. I was turned onto this place by my wife about 3 years ago, and no matter what, I must stop here at least 1/month. When I host executives from out of town, I take them here to get a feel for real Chicago food. The best item on their menu is the grilled chicken pita sandwich. I have had almost everything on their menu and this no doubt is the best. The kids meals are great too and no matter what you order, they shine. If you are a regular, the people who work their will recognize you and even get to know your name. I don't know what some other reviewers are talking about with their low ratings, but this place is in my top 3. It's been a while since I've been to Franksville. I went with the chili dog, taco, and fries. The chili dog was good. The chili had very good flavor. The hot dog was a Vienna Beef and was warmed up just right. The taco was your typical fast food taco. The fries seemed to have changed since I have been here. They didn't have a lot of flavor. Wow!! What in the seven hells has happened to this place? It's been a few years since I've been to this place and I happened to be driving by it early Saturday afternoon. I used to be a regular back in the day, just loved their gyro plate. I used to get 2 extra sauces which I considered the best sauce ever, eating it with fries as well. It hurts to say but I was really disappointed this time around. The gyro meat was so dry and flavorless I didn't even finish it. And my favorite sauce tasted like a plain Greek yogurt. A neighborhood staple with great hot dogs! It's a typical greasy spoon with good food and a friendly staff.

They are a little pricey. Now, what do I mean by that? Well, if you if you can make it to Harlem & Grand (2400N)-El Alegre Burrito, instead of Harlem & Addison (3600N), pat yourself on the back, you just saved $3 off each gyro on a comparable item. What am I, a cheapo? Simple answer, yes. But, as the saying goes, "You do get what you pay for". They do a fine job dressing up the plate and preparing the food to taste as expected. You won't get any filler ingredients in their menu items and the ingredients they do use will be fresh and won't be second best. For example, there will be no french fries, lettuce, mayonnaise, or kitchen sink in your gyro. The meat is tender, juicy & properly cut. Just being as honest as possible with this review. I'm not here to bash them. In their neighborhood, I'm sure they are one of the best. They do provide excellent customer service. They are friendly and very fast, even at their drive-thru. They have ample parking on-site in a clean and well-maintained lot. This is especially convenient for groups of people needing more than one car. As a tasty Chicago food provider, they seem to have no problem competing with the McDonald's next door. No play place or clowns here, just good food. read more

Granted, with a name like Franksville, I should only be eating hot dogs, but that must be the only good thing on the menu. I decided to have a polish since I couldn't wait for a nice large roll and grilled sausage. Nope. Here, they put it on a plain hot dog bun. The husband got a cheeseburger and I think you could read the paper through it - it was so thin. And grey - and greasy. Fries were half and half - the crisp ones were delicious, the soggy ones, not so much. Plus for giving you your own ketchup and having salt and pepper on each table instead of pre-salting everything.
