When you first walk-in, you will be greeted by the delicious smell of fresh baked bread ahhh! I've had the pizza from here a few times and its definitely one of the better options in the Wallingford and Meriden area. I usually go with plain cheese or half pepperoni pizza. Very disappointed with their stuffed breads. Truly aweful. Nothing more than a loaf of bread with scant fillings. Brought two to a party and I was ashamed that's what i brought. There was little eggplant in the eggplant stuffed bread. And there was was nothing chicken parm about the chicken parm bread. Like, no sauce. Just a little chicken and a bit of cheese. This used to be my go to place in Wallingford for stuffed bread but wilL not go back. Will drive to my west haven go to place that actually stuffs a stuffed bread. Great place to go to where the service is great as well as the food and the prices ! Not overly fancy so you have to dress up it is very casual but the food is on par to any other Italian restaurant that I've been to in new haven or hamden area ! Very disappointed and, honestly, feel greatly overcharged. In addition to a rude server the chicken parmesan was just 2 small cutlets and no starch for $19?!?! My wife's chicken scarpariello was nothing close to authentic and did not finish. I haven't had Italian in a while, but tonight my boyfriend and I were craving some. Because I STILL don't know many good restaurants in my area, I just Googled "Italian Restaurants" for my area. Fratelli's came up on the list, I saw a good review for it on another site, so we headed over. Looking at this place from the outside, you'd just think it was a small, family-owned, average, run-of-the-mill restaurant. But it was SO much more! When we walked in the door, we were salivating at how good it smelled in there. There was a half-hour wait, which we were a little surprised by (again, we thought it was just a little hole in the wall), but it was a Saturday night, so we gladly took a seat and waited. Let me tell you, this place was worth the wait. When we got seated in the main dining room (which was small -- next time I think we'll make reservations), we were surprised at how fancy it was inside. We were wearing jeans, and it was suitable (I saw another couple wearing jeans too), but I think next time we'll dress up a little. It was really quite classy inside. The service was good, and the food was to--die--for! Basket of Bread-- SO good. I love a good crusty, soft, HOT bread served before the meal. And this place serves up a good loaf. Garlic Cheese Bread (what can I say? We love us some bread)-- I thought I died and went to heaven. Salads (came with meal)-- impressive. Not just some iceburg and a few measily carrots and tomatoes. A great assortment of lettuces and other fresh veggies. Colourful and appetizing. I got the Eggplant Parm, and The Boy got Risotto Primera(?), both of which were really good. When they brought them out, the presentation was very impressive (a fresh pink orchid on top, sauce drizzled just so, etc). It was truly an awesome restaurant. A true diamond in the rough, you'd never know a classy, reasonably-priced restaurant would be behind those doors. I'll definitely go back some time. read more

My inlaws love this place, and used to go all the time. I've tried a variety dishes from the pastas, to pizzas and all have been excellent! The wife and I went back today, and all I can say is that it is as great as ever. All I can add is don't be to weary about the price. We were regulars here until a very bad experience one Mothers Day. I took my mom for Mothers Day-she loves steak au Poivre. It came out as a sliced steak swimming in a sauce-not the traditional steak covered in cracked pepper with a side of sauce. Mom found it unappetizing. When we dared to ask about it , the waitress took it back to the kitchen and asked if we'd like to order something else. Mom ordered a chicken dish and we finished up. We then got a bill not only for our 2 entrees but also the aforementioned steak!!! I asked them how they had the gall to charge for something we didn't eat...and I said that if we were paying for it they should bring it back out...After a very nasty exchange with the obviously Italian owner (should not be cooking french dishes!) we left vowing never to return. read more

Fratelli's is a great place to go if you want higher end Italian foods or just really good high end pizza. They do meats and pastas very well and thier seafood is good as well. Thier appetizers are killer and the presentation is excellent. The dining room is a little small, which makes getting in o a Friday or Saturday night tough, so you might want to call ahead on those days but generally the rest of the week you are not going to wait long. Try the Bruschetta with goat cheese its fabulous. Their salads are top notch, with olives and good lettuce that was obviously well made, not just some shredded lettuce and chopped tomatoes. read more

Usually very solid. Good food, good setting. That being said, I was craving stuffed pepperoni bread after a conversation at work so I called in an order. When I arrived home I was incredibly disappointed. It was thin, undercooked inside, and had an EXTREMELY small amount of pepperoni. It was essentially a greasy mozzarella sandwich with a light "layer" of pepperoni. Pepperoni bread should be thicker and absolutely loaded with pepperoni. So yesterday we tried to go to knuckleheads since I heard it was great and we epically failed since they were closed Mondays.Anyhow we drove all the way from new haven and decided since we would stay local so we ended up finding this place. When we first arrived I was very skeptic since my mom chose this place and myself am a classically trained chef (so I don't have much confidence in her choices because she doesn't understand the concept of fresh lol).Anyway we drive up and find out its in this plaza along with another bar restaurant that looked empty. So we walk up and start doubting ourselves. UNTIL we walk up to the host stand and she very politely walks us to our table. We see this very nice restaurant interior separated from the bar dining area at first I thought we're little under dressed NOT THE CASE this is a family place our waitress jamie I think her name was served us awesomely our drinks were never empty and when they got close she would magically appear like spidey sense. We ordered the calamari,stuffed clams and fried mooz for appetizers. They were all delicious except the clams which although did taste fresh the stuffing was not that great. But was overlooked because of the delicious infused oil and fresh baked bread and other appetizers. I ordered the Zuppa de pesce and requested fra diavola sauce. When I tell you it was delicious I'm not exaggerating. Seafood was fresh out of this world and the flavor depth was so intense my taste buds were crying tears of joy. My mom ordered the lobster ravioli that was topped with shrimp and idk what sauce that was but I did sample it and that's what I would order if we ever came back. Other dishes my family got was the pizza which not to fond of but I'm picky as hell as new haven style is the best style (lol), half meatball sub (the whole one is huge), and the baked ziti. Our waitress told us we didn't look too happy but we were more than happy because it's one of the best services and food we've had and we go to alot of restaurants all around the country. Crummy service and mediocre food. We stopped on the way back to Boston from New York. Dining room was nice, clean. Our server could not pronounce the specials. Words like cognac, julienne, and other basic food names were mangled to the point where we did not know what she was saying. We were never served bread although all the other tables were. Food was delivered hot after about a 39 minute wait. The eggplant parm was a mushy, sweet mess. Five stars. Best pizza in Wallingford easily. This is closer to a New Haven pie than Christos. The crust has a good crunch, the sauce has a nice tang to it, the cheese gets all melty and they don't kill it with oil like Christos has a tendency to do. The bar is pretty much a low key quiet spot. I like coming here after a hectic work week or work day and grab a drink and a pizza with some friends and just relax before heading home. The service is fast and friendly, never had a bad experience. This is either a hidden gem of Wallingford or i go here on off nights because I've never had to wait for a table and the service has always been exceptional. read more

Ordered from a hotel located within 2 miles. Food sounded great. When I called to make my order they told me I had to order through the app. Ok. I did but on the app, there were few characters allowed to leave instructions. I was barely able to leave a note about which hotel , my room #, and my cell #. I could not leave further instructions. Received food at hotel -no napkins, no plastic ware. I called them back to ask for assistance and they said I should have left note in instructions that I needed plasticware. But on app, which they insisted I place my order, there was no room to do so. When I asked them for help, the hung up on me. read more

Recently went to dinner at Fratelli's. Reminds me the movie Goonies for some reason! Lol. Anyways. So we sat down and were given some bread with a nice garlicky olive oil to dip it in. Yum!! My friend ordered mussels over angel hair and I opted for the chicken parm which came with a side of pasta with red sauce. There are two barometers for judging Italian restaurants, first the red sauce. The red sauce at Fratelli's was delicious! Thumbs up. The second criteria is chicken cutlets. Sadly this is where they fell short. It was a generous portion of chicken but was bland and chicken a bit overdone. We rounded out our dinner with the homemade apple tart which excellent!! Fratelli's is a decent italian option with good service, but living in state saturated with Italian restaurants, you really need to stand out. I'd come back again however to check them out again and see what else may be good there. read more

I've been to Fratelli's twice now and man oh man, what a treat. LOVE their lasagna bolognese. Some of the best lasagna I've ever had....it' was hard for me to order something different because it's that good. My other favorite is the Zuppa de Pesce. Tons of fresh clams, mussels, squid, fish, and shrimp simmered in an incredible tomato sauce and served with linguine. Ask for it fra diavolo for a spicy step up. Fresh baked bread always arrives piping hot and steamy, olive oil on the table ready for dipping. So good. Apparently the bar is a hot spot for happy hour. Just about every woman in the joint had a martini in their hand except myself....Wino for life! read more

Well some things were really good...and some not. The bread was fresh and warm, with a hard crust and soft middle. Our meals also came with side salads which were average. My salmon did not have much flavor, and came with average mashed potatoes. The grilled tilapia was pretty good. The spaghetti (which is Barilla and not home made) and sauce tasted like they came from a store, and had very little flavor. The best thing was definitely the risotto! Highly recommend getting a side dish of it, will not be disappointed! Also, the home made apple pie dessert was delicious, the white chocolate cream mousse cake lacked flavor and had a cheesecake like texture. Overall our service was good and the place is very cozy and relaxed, but the food was a bit hit or miss. Great presentation though! read more

We been coming to Fratellis for years and we use them for special occasions. We planned an outing to Fratellis on a Saturday to celebrate. We showed up and no customers were in the dinning room. To me that's never a good sign esp on a Saturday evening. We sat in a dark room, lights barley on. I had two elderly people with me and they couldn't see the menu. They had the music blaring over our head too. We asked them to turn up the lights and turn down the music. Since it's just us in this empty dinning room. Service was ok, the guy seemed like he was writing down what we wanted. Our order came and what a mess. He tried to argue with my elderly mother in law over garnish in her dish (which she told him to NOT put in ) I ordered a pizza and had it split in the middle with different toppings on both sides, nothing was correct on either side and the pizza was boring and hard. The list goes on. And needless to say we will not return to this place. I hope it was just bad chefs on that night because it's a shame if it's like this all the time. read more

This is one of our favorite restaurants and it is in the most inconspicuous plaza in Wallingford so you would never know it! One of my coworkers was raving about how great the dinners here were and I was sure he was confusing it with another place- he was adamant so we decided to give it a try. It was completely worth it- the dinners truly are delicious and the portion size are huge. You easily get two meals out of it. They always have a beautiful fresh orchid on every plate and under a lot of their chicken dishes the have these incredibly thin sliced potatoes that are just melt in your mouth delicious. My favorite is the chicken piccata- the sauce is perfect every time. Salad or soup and bread come with every meal as well. Service is mostly good, sometimes when it's busy you wait longer than average times to see your server and sometimes they're right down to business, not in an unfriendly way so I'm good with that! What a negative experience my family had at Fratelli's last nite! The service was poor. When the waiter said I'll give you a few minutes to decide on your order, he didn't appear again for 20 minutes. We ordered fried calamari. as an appetizer....tasteless. I barely touched the salad, soaked in dressing. The highlight of the meal was the bread.. just out of the oven, hot and yummy. I asked our server for ice water 3 times. Had to flag down another server who brought it to us right away. When our meals finally arrived, I didn't have much of an appetite due to the long wait I .brought most of my meal home, as did the rest of my family. Ironically, I had just recommended this restaurant to several people I work with that very day. I really hope they don't check it out. A very disappointing experience, especially since we were celebrating a special occasion. read more

My friends, family, fiance and I are regulars here. The food is the best. Most of the food is good (minus the buffalo pizza..) Everyone's favorite is the Vodka Pizza and the stuffed bread. Their brushetta is banging and their salads are delicious as well. The reason we all keep going back though is for the food and drinks, which is what matters. I've only had the pizza here, though I've had it a number of times, and every time has ended the same way -- with PAIN! Their pizza is delicious going in. I mean it, it is among the best tasting pizzas in the area. But there is something about it, and I don't exactly know what, that causes me massive gastrointestinal distress culminating in what I generally refer to as the Thundersh*ts. This place went downhill. My visit was 9-20-09. Asked for a table for 2 at 6 PM when I entered with my wife and she asked if this table was available. The unprofessional Hostess said only if you can finish by 7PM. Then she said pointing to a table 15' away, "I think this one is available". OK, so that was odd and could of been handled better. Sit down, waitress comes with menus. See her 10 minutes later. Are you ready she asks? I asked are there any specials? She said oh yea and read the 3 specials to us. Ordered a cheap $30 bottle of red wine and placed our order. Salad came out...salad was iceburg (tasteless) with a teaspoon of dressing. OK, so i added more oil and vinegar at the end even though i had a ranch type. I then noticed a bread basket at a different table with 2 people. I asked for bread. This took about 7 minutes as she came back with 4 slices of bread. Main course comes out, my veal picatta was 2 1/2 small medalliions on top of potatoes au gratin (was deceiving if you thought it was all meat). There were 5 mini sprigs of asparagus in a lemon flavored heavily buttered sauce. The 1st time I did eat here we had to bring the left overs home. Now the main meals are the size of kids meals. NEVER will go back, I would prefer driving to New Haven if I wanted real Italian or NYC. read more

This place is pretty popular with the people I work with, but it just never does anything for me. Wait staff is very friendly, it is a nice atmosphere (ate in the back room--there are also tables in the bar area), and both times I have ordered great tasting seafood dishes--calamari fra diavolo and zuppa di pesce...the zuppa di pesce could've been a little more spicy (more like the fra diavolo) but it was still great none the less. Still haven't had the pizza, but it is definitely on the to-do list after these two experieneces. read more
