Ordered a large hot honey pepperoni pizza, and an order of garlic knots for pick up. The staff was friendly and accommodating. We had to wait a few minutes for our pizza to be ready and the waitress gave us two free sliver slices of pizza for waiting. Plenty of parking available too. Definitely good pizza here!

Illiano's pizza is a taste of nostalgia for me. When I was in high school, Illiano's was one of the only pizzerias around that offered Mac & Cheese Pizza and my cross country team loved stopping at the Middletown location (Main Street) after a meet. Since then, I've introduced Illiano's to friends and family who also now enjoyed the Mac & Cheese pizza and discovering other new favorites. Having a Illiano's near by in Meriden was a huge plus when we moved to town. Since we are local, we receive coupons in the mail often which is a huge help to get more bang for our buck. We order Illiano's for special occasions or if we really want to treat ourselves. They are a bit pricey especially since we like to order the fun topping gourmet pies. The pizzas that are big crowd pleasers are the Mac & Cheese and Baked Potato. We also order classic Cheese and a meat lover type of pizza. My new favorite is the Dill Pickle Pizza. The crust isn't too thick or too thin. The slices from a large pizza are huge. Once slice could fill me up. The Mac & Cheese pizza has a white cheese sauce, topped with noodles and a blend of cheeses. It's a carb overload, but so good. The Baked Potato pizza has thin slices of potatoes, bacon, ranch, cheese and scallions. The staff offered us a sample slice once and have been ordering it ever since. I've fallen victim to the pickle pizza craze and recently found out they had a Dill Pickle Pizza on the menu. It was very good and will do until the next Big E. It's a white pizza, loaded with pickles, drizzled with ranch and topped with dill seasoning. The best part of Illiano's is that they allow half and half gourmet pizza. For example, we ordered half Dill Pickle Pizza and half Baked Potato. I have yet to dine in for dinner at the restaurant since we typically order takeout, but the place is very cozy. They offer pizza by the slice including their gourmet pies (just like the Middletown locations). There is a refrigerator with sodas and desserts too. I know everyone has their own opinion on pizza, but if you are looking for creative pizzas, give Illiano's a go!

    Grandma Pizza but not really...

We have ordered the Grandma Pizza from here several times so this time we were really disappointed in what we received. The pizza usually comes in their square crust and is thick. This time for some reason, they made it on a round pie. The crust was thin and all the sauce and cheese was off, it looks like the crust wasn't able to support it. I don't know why they suddenly changed their Grandma Pizza when it was so good before.

Solid Italian restaurant in the heart of Meriden. Great pizza selection with some unique combinations including the "Big Mac" pizza. Got takeout for me and the Mrs. that included a sampling of Illiano's pizza selection. Tried a slice of the loaded potato and a "snack" size of their Buffalo chicken pizza. The loaded potato was spectacular. The sour cream base really brought the flavors together. Crust was crisp. Very enjoyable. Buffalo chicken was also solid. For dinner tried the gnocchi w/ meat sauce. Not the best gnocchi I have had but still a solid dish. House made bread was very good and their cannoli and huckleberry cheesecake desserts were divine. Service could not have been better. Counter clerks went out of their way to make sure I was taken care of. Looking forward to diving deeper into Illiano's menu, especially their specialty pizzas!

This has been my go-to for years. The Buffalo chicken is my favorite. However, lately the quality control has gone downhill. Missing sauces, missing pizzas, receiving someone else's order. Just last night I placed a delivery order- 3 pizzas. One was somebody else's. I didn't know until it was too late because my father answered the door. I called and the girl said, "Oh okay that's where it went" so the person who ordered that pizza must have called as well. They offered to bring another pizza to correct it- very nice! I live up the road, maybe 3 min away. It took an hour. That new pizza, as our guests were eating, included a piece of plastic likely from a block or bag of cheese. Good thing she saw it! Where is the quality control? This could have been a safety issue.

If you like New Haven style pizza, which is arguably the 'esemplare' of all pizza, then visiting The Little Rendezvous is a MUST visit if you live within 90-min. Plan a trip to visit some store you want to go to, a beach visit or whatever, just find a way to circle The Little Rendezvous into the trip! The crust is thin with a crackery-crunch, the sauce is at a another level and the mozz and roni are high-quality deliciousness! Rendezvous stands tall with any of the well known top-3 pizza joints in New Haven. Dave's score of 9.1 (if you are unaware of the reference, then pizza isn't your thing) is right on point, and I'd go as far as scoring it slightly higher at a 9.2 based on my visit. The building is something out of folklore. The building is all of about 20ft. wide, and when you enter, it is immediate, Steve (owner/chef) is all about the pizza. To be clear, most will consider Rendezvous to be take-out only. There is zero decor, less signs made with cardboard and sharpie notifying you that wait times of hours are real..... so be sure to call ahead. You walk past the most basic seating area of 3-4 small tables with bare walls, and then proceed to walk down an oddly long and narrow sloping hallway which leads you to the service counter/kitchen which houses the 130-year old oven! It's honestly something you could only imagine out of a movie...... the hole in the wall that is creating high-quality, delicious pizzas! Why or how you ask? The answer is simple, Steve! The guy clearly has a passion for making pizza and has dedicated his life to doing so. I met the 'man-the myth-the legend' on my visit, and he kindly even took the time to chat with me. Bucket-list item checked off! Overall score = 5.0!!!

We arrived early on, what I thought was off hours and ordered in person, the wait time was 4 hours. I don't live far so it was easy to come back. The dining area is tight and pretty basic, so plan on wooden bench in limited space if you are dining in. I would also recommend calling way in advance with your order. As far as pizza goes, I have had the opportunity to sample most of the high profile places and understand why this place deserves to be on the list. The crust is pretty fantastic and overall a really good pie. When we went, there was no line. The grab and go was super simple, cash only. Order ahead, plan accordingly, and enjoy.

They do advertise for combo deal's, slices, $1 wings. Angelina's is directly across the street from Hubbard Park too. I'd assume people grab and go to the park. We ordered a simple cheese pizza and a chicken cutlet sandwich. The pizza was fresh, melty cheese with tasty Italian spices and perfectly cooked crust, but wasn't anything special. There are many other pizzerias in the area so it comes down personal preference and price. The chicken cutlet sandwich was a decent size and delicious. We were happy with the portion sizes, quality, and price. Our total was about $23 and we had leftovers (this was for 2 people). We will likely order again and will think of this place if we plan to have pizza for a gathering.

On a recent Saturday I finally stopped in for their $6.50, 2 slice pizza deal that comes with a 20 ounce Coke. The pizza is New Haven style and baked in a wood fired oven, need I say more? One word of caution - be prepared to pay an additional 4% over menu prices if you choose to pay by credit card.

I'd driven pass Empire Pizza many times but this would be my first experience easting there. We ordered a large pizza with mushrooms and peppers, asking for the pizza to be made "light on the cheese" and the order was a pleasant surprise for both of us. I rate that experience slightly above average, 3.5 stars and determined that I'd visit again in the future. The second visit was with my uncle who had visited to help with some repairs and a pizza reward seemed appropriate. Our order was also mushrooms and peppers, but I didn't ask for any alteration to the cheese volume since I knew that my uncle would prefer more cheese and he had made the trip just to help me so I decided to see how this pizza would rate. Sadly, I found the pizza less exciting overall, barely average. BTW, the pizza isn't New Haven style pizza and is more of a local variation on NYC style pizza (which I prefer over New Haven style pizza). Based on the two visits I'd rate Empire Pizza three stars overall, IOW average. There's nothing wrong with average pizza, so this isn't intended as a slight in any way.
