Great tapas! We had fromage plate, white asparagus, duck, wine and sparkling water! Excellent food, fantastic service.

Nothing I write will be able to describe how delicious this place is. Nothing. I didn't really know what to expect going in. I've had tapas before. But not like this. I've had nothing like this. Sit at the bar around the kitchen, and take a look at what the 2 chefs are doing. It's impressive. Intricate. Delicate. Fresh. It's beautiful. Each tapas is around 7-8 Euros. You would take about 2 or 3. I can't exactly tell you what I took, as their menu changes everyday and every season. But they are quite eccentric flavors. Seriously. Give it a go. This was one of my favorite places in Paris. It is tiny but people seem are nice for being crammed in a small place. No issues with people moving when you need to get through. I went with a group of 6 and we had the tiny booth in the back which was a stroke of luck. It is a little pricy but I thought it was worth the money. I loved the "fish no chips with black mayo", the cheese platter (if you ask they will bring bread), the BBQ ribs and tempura broccoli. Our server also spoke English which was nice since our French is basically pointing and frantically looking in the French/English book. I'll be back for sure. read more

Not a huge wine list but what's on it is good. The staff are pretty good at recommending something so don't be afraid to ask them. Lots of small tapas plates with super fresh ingredients- not just cheese and terrines. Think small grilled lamb skewers, green bean salads, croquets etc. A great place to order little bits as you go. You may end up perching against a small tabled wall but it makes the place more social and adds to the atmosphere. If you do get a seat it will be a stool around the edge of the bar or at the bar. And most of all: great staff. They really made our visit! read more

Freddy's is always fun! Packed and lively!!!! After a short wait we were seated at the bar. A nice young gentleman took our wine and food order. Unfortunately, he left shortly after that and the service dropped precipitously the rest of the evening. The young woman behind the bar ignored us completely. I got her attention numerous times as she passed and she would say " one moment", only to continue ignoring us. I finally had enough, stood up and asked for the check....when she finally gave me a look. Too bad, as we were trying to order more wine, but I wasn't going to be ignored and put up with her "attitude".... The night went from 5 stars to 3 stars because of the lack of service. read more

Pretty good small shareable portions of good (not amazing) foods. We ordered 'fish no chips' where the fish was ver very good, the batter not so much, then a slab of sliced skirt steak that we liked; the hummus looked good next to us; keep in mind there are no tables just counter eating and drinking. Some friends invited us out for drinks while we were in Paris. It sounded intriguing. The reviews were all great, so we went in with great expectations. Especially after a long day of touristing. We were not disappointed. There four of us. So we shared five tapas. And the tapas were ample enough to share. And, wow, what great flavors! We had a roasted pumpkin dish, sautéed, Korean mushrooms, a beet salad, fish-no-chips, and breast of duck. We also ordered a kalamata spread. And we ended it with a cheese selection. Tres magnifique! Everything was delicious and accompanied by excellent bread. The service was a little slow, but understandable as it was very crowded, despite being a slow night. Our waitress said that on busy nights it is standing room only, with a line out the door. And I believe her. It's just that good. The only fly in the ointment is that they have only one beer on tap. But it's a very small fly, because their beer is a good lager. Their wine selection is huge and excellent. Even more, the place is a bargain. The four of us had all that food, four glasses of wine, and six beers - all for 122 euros. If you find yourself in Paris, get over to Rue de Seine and wait in line for Freddy's. I was excited to try this restaurant having read some great reviews. It's a wonderful local, casual, restaurant with excellent food that offers lots of bar seating. The wine menu is fairly limited but offers a nice range at extremely affordable prices. I had the Languedoc Le Vent se Live (Domaine Lacroix-Vanel) '13 and the VDF Causse Toujours (Domain Ribera) '15. I wasn't sure how many dishes I would need since everything is tapas styles, and I ended up with three. I started with the Heliantis fume, puree de prep in de courses (artichoke smoked) which was a jerusalem artichoke smoked on BBQ and finished in a pan with hazelnut butter and pumpkin seeds, I found the consistency to be similar to a potato, but the dish was delicious. Next, I had the Rouge grille (grilled redfish), which was a fish similar to mackerel but milder. The dish was served with mushrooms and was lovely. The last dish I ordered was the Grecque de champignon. I'm not usually a mushroom fan, but this dish was amazing and my favorite of the three. The mushrooms were served in a garlic creme fraiche. I wanted to finish with some cheese as they had a lovely selection, but you had to commit to one cheese. The place was busy for a Sunday night. The waitresses/bar staff were young, but friendly and knowledgeable. I recommend the restaurant and would go again. read more

This is a review from the last time I was in Paris, which was also the first time I was in Paris. Two years ago. That's how good Freddy's is. I stumbled on it during a perfectly Parisian ramble through Saint Germain dés Prés. Perched at the bar, I asked to be surprised. The glass of Yves Leccia LÎle de Beauté Blanc "Biancu Gentile"that appeared before me was a revelation. (Yes, it's been two years and I still remember the wine.) The Corsican character was indelible. The wine tasted of sea breezes and caramel. It had legs for days.... This was a white wine with body and presence, unlike any other I had ever had. The wine was so good that when I returned to New York City, I posted a plea on Twitter for a connection to a wine seller that carried this bottle. You're in Paris. You'll have good wine. But at Freddy's, you'll drink wines that will have you saying "Oh yes... I discovered this wine when I was in Paris..." read more

After leaving a horrible experience at another restaurant near by, we found Freddy's on Yelp. What an amazing experience! The bar tender took the time to translate the French menu into English. A very generous gesture. There was a solid mix of English and French speaking patrons in the restaurant. The small plate menu is exactly what we were looking for and the quality of the food was fantastic. Wines were well thought out and fit the cuisine. The entire staff was smiling and happy. Wandered in here while visiting Paris, located on one of the restaurant row side streets in Left Bank. What appealed to me was the large (for Paris) bar, as I was on my own. More places should configure this way to accommodate singles who don't like sitting at a table solo. The service was fantastic -a server found a bar stool for me, the place was jammed. The rose was icy cold and inexpensive and I soon met 2 young women who were also on their own and we shared some fromage and smoked salmon with fresh bread. The server brought us an order of delicious sautéed mushrooms, gratis (on the house) It was a great night to remember, making new friends and sharing stories and laughs, all made possible by the warm hospitality of Freddy's. read more

Recently visited Freddy's on our latest trip to Paris. My husband and I went in the early evening for a light bite and some local wine. We loved the ambiance which felt intimate but also lively. The bartender helped us pick out a few different French reds and patiently let me try a number of different whites before I ultimately decided to stick with another red. Food was perfectly sized for what we were looking for -- and the razor clams and the pork shoulder were two of the best bites we had on our entire trip! read more

From our past experiences in Paris, seeing Japanese tourists made us highly optimistic about the meal to come. It's essentially a small plates type of restaurant. We started with braised leeks, which were rich and nutty with a Thai influenced peanut sauce circling the plate. Next came excellent grilled razor clams, which were prepared with a traditional escargot's garlicky, buttery persillade. Next, button mushrooms with 'fresh' cheese, which were adorable, pickled, and salty. Enjoyable but the fresh cheese was essentially an Indian flavored yogurt (cumin, coriander, lemon, etc.) that was overwhelmingly strong. Next, a grilled white fish with spinach puree that was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Simple, excellent. Finally, duck hearts with sauce diable, which was not diable, but rich and yummy and speared and grilled on a stick like satay - my favorite small plate of the night. The hearts were rich and beefy. For dessert I opted for a cheese plate of Tomme de St-Antoine, which was excellent but unnecessary. read more

Wonderful no-reservations wine bar with friendly staff and varied menu on blackboard that changes daily. Food is interesting and really tasty; prices quite reasonable. I go on the early side because it gets packed and kind of crazy as the evening wears on. I've been given "tastes" of various menu items on the house. Freddy's was a last minute try on our last night in Paris and what a find it was!! We were greeted by a very helpful young man that informed us the kitchen was closing within minutes but he walked us through the entire menu and gave detailed descriptions of each dish. The fish "no chips" menu item was fantastic. The fish could not have been fresher and tastier. Very Delicate was the batter and served with lemon and curried aoili. Simple and perfect! Every dish that arrived upstaged the previous one. Great when that happens. The waiter steered us in the right directions on wine paring as well since we were not familiar with the French varieties. All were on point! We found out after our meal ( through another patron) that the proprietors also are wine merchants so the list is thoughtfully put together. The music selection was very eclectic and ambience hip and tasteful. Will be back at the START of our next visit to paris instead of the end. Great job Freddy's! read more

Found this casual little gem by accident after running across John Talbott's Paris restaurant blog (a great resource for trip planning!) It's tiny, bar-only, small plates place with really well done simple food, beautiful wine pairings, and seamless service. We didn't get a chance to visit its big sister (Semilla) next door on this visit because it was closed for the holiday during our trip - but looking forward to it next time.
