On a whim about a month ago, I planned a vacation to Fredericksburg based solely around how much I loved the brewery when I lived there with my dad 32 years ago, when I was 14. The brewery was the first place I ever had a scotch egg, my dad would get a small beer flight, maybe we'd get a brat, he made it fun. I'm pretty sure it had just opened back then. We got into town, checked in at the Trueheart Hotel, and immediately walked to the brewery because I was so excited. I probably went in to this with the unrealistic expectation that it would be the same as when I was a kid. It had a great start. The hostess was nice, and our server was, too. I wish we had gotten to sit in the back room with the long tables, We started with the beer flight and a scotch egg. The beer flight was okay. I was expecting really good German beers, mind-blowing, but these were just fine. A pale ale, an IPA, a flat porter were on the list, just not a memorable selection, although the red ale was good. The flight was a good price, though. For our appetizer, I wasn't expecting such a small scotch egg for $9. I mean, it was really small. I've been to several places around my area for scotch eggs, and they're usually $11-12 for two and they're properly sized. But we're on vacation and I wanted nostalgia so fine. It was delicious, and the creole mustard the scotch egg comes with was divine. More on that later. For our meals we tried both schnitzels. I was disappointed they don't have spaetzle, I'm pretty sure they used to. My boyfriend had the schinken and I had the jager. I don't like ham but his was infinitely better because of the gravy. The gravy on the jager schnitzel I got was heavy with some seasoning, maybe sage. It's all I could taste, and I couldn't just push the gravy off because my pork was fried to death. I barely ate any of mine. The sides we got (you get two per plate) were German potato salad, fries, onion rings, and vegetable medley. The fries and onion rings were great, especially when dipping in the creole mustard we saved from the scotch egg. The German potato salad is supposed to be sweet and sour and my boyfriend usually likes it, but this was way sweet, he wasn't a fan. The vegetable medley was good, but seemed really out of place as a side, normally with schnitzel you'd expect green beans or a salad or something, we got broccoli and squash. They did have a side salad, but it was $5. Not sure why a side salad couldn't just replace the two sides for no upcharge. I will say the rolls were awesome. At the end our server let us sit and hang out for a few minutes, he didn't rush us. We asked if they sell the creole mustard in bottles but they don't, so he said we could pay $5 for a togo container of it. We got probably a cup, so I was fine with that, I really loved it that much. We paid, I noticed he charged us $5 for tarter sauce that we didn't have, figured it was the only way to ring up the mustard. We left with our prized creole mustard. Cut to this weekend when we opened it to make a sandwich, and what we actually got was tarter sauce, so somewhere along the way he'd forgotten what we asked for. We live 200 miles from Fredericksburg, there's no fixing that, but maybe that's on me because I should have checked it. They really should sell bottles of that mustard, it's very good. Overall, it just wasn't the experience I was expecting. It's not the same, it's been over 30 years so I totally understand, and I did try to be fair with my critique. After reading through some of the recent reviews, we were hesitant in coming here because of some of the service and food issues. Since there are no business owner responses, the problems could be persisting. However, we've enjoyed our time here in the past so we thought we'd try it again. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We got here at 5 pm on a Thursday and the place was mostly empty. That usually translates into better service and likely a better prepared meal as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Sure enough, this theory was correct. We had two craft beers on the table within three minutes followed by Ruben fritters five minutes after that. The menu here is pretty simple with the expected German twist to it. We just stuck to a salad and burger. The salad was fresh and good, but the burger was pretty average and you have to add your own mayo and mustard. Even by adding cheese and mushrooms it still fell within the three star range and the fries were just OK. The beers were correct to style, but the hoppier beers were slightly tame. It's pretty much three stars overall, but the service was great so 31/2*. I'd still come back and try something else off the menu before the weekend and before 6. read more

Brewery #374 Ordinarily I hate giving 1-star reviews because that means I had a bad experience. A month has passed since I visited, and I am now happy to write this review. We came in sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas on a rainy night and were seated right away. After waiting like 10 mins the waiter came and took our drink order. The ladyfriend had a water and I got a flight of beer. He showed up 5 mins later with her water and took our food order. We order a pretzel as an appetizer, and each ordered a salad as an entree. Then queue the Jeopardy theme as we waited. 1st came out the salads after 15 mins or so. I asked about my beer and the waiter says, "yeah dude I asked the bartender and he said you'd get it before Christmas" and proceeds to laugh. I smile and let it go. So now I am watching the bartender and he's not busy. He actually took other people's order at the bar. Then comes the pretzel 10 mins later. The waiter says, "Can I get you anything else?" I say, "Yeah my beer. How am I supposed to eat this without anything to drink?' He says " woah dude don't kill the messenger". I then went full Karen and asked to speak to a manager who never came. Finally, after finishing the salad and a piece if the pretzel, the beer came. I got my order completely out of order. The pretzel was stale, and the cheese was cold. The salad was fine, and the beer was average. The service sucked and the bartender was an assclown. Tourist trap craphole and oh they didn't even have brewery stickers. read more

I have came here two separate times and I've had a great time each time. There's a lot of reviews about the waiters forgetting and such but each time I've came they have been so sweet and attentive. I got asked several times what else we needed and just regular check ups. They do have brewery stickers since I literally bought one. This place needs more love I swear! First time here and when we entered we were greeted and seated. We had not the best impression for first time dining because we were seated but no one came to take our drinks or food order. We waited for a while until a waitress came and then told us, " i don't know where your waitress is because she is no where to be found so i am going to step in to help. What drinks would you like?" We ordered for 2 waters and a honey cream ale. That waitress left and then a while later our waitress that we never met came with waters and put it on our table and told us one moment and walk away. We were baffled because there was like only 3 other tables (including us) that is seated. Our waitress didn't seem happy and then after a while later came back to take our order. We had ordered: 0/5 stars: the artichoke dip it was all cream and lacked salt and flavor. It just taste like cream of mushroom consistency and bland. It wasn't cheesy and just cream. The tortilla chips were not fresh and stale. 0/5: sausage sampler the grey sausage was uneatable. It was dry and just didn't taste good like it was bad. The pepperwurst texture was not bonded together and was way off. One of the sausage was ok but it wasn't anything special. Our order of sides were wrong. The side of sauerkraut was very salty and acidic. The red cabbage was super sweet. 0/5 JAGER SCHNITZEL the pork was dry and under seasoned. I felt ill after having a couple of bites of my meal and stopped. The German potato salad was bland and unappetizing. The potato tasted like it was from a can. Onion rings were drenched in oil and super greasy. Under seasoned as well. 0/5: peach cobbler: we were excited anout the peach cobbler since Fredericksburg was known for their peaches but we received raw pie dough that wasn't entirely cooked. It tasted like raw flour and the strangest thing is the vanilla ice cream doesn't taste like normal vanilla ice cream. It's not sweet and bland. I have no idea how that can be possible. 4/5: honey cream ale - this was the only item we enjoyed. Hint of honey and it was smooth. Do I recommend this place? Maybe just go for the beers. The beer is really good, we got a flight of generous pours which allowed us to try all their beers. The pretzel was disappointing, just a generic Super Pretzel brand; I expected a homemade.... That was a previous review from 2023.... We have since returned. The sausage plate was really good, hubbys fave was the brat and mine the jalapeno sausage. We split the jagerschnnitzel which was really good. Entrees came with a roll that was two kinds of bread, light and dark, pretty good. So this is exactly the intent when going to Fredericksburg Brewery. Fredericksburg brewery brews its own craft beer, has a beergarten and also a bed-and-breakfast. For this visit, luckily, it wasn't very full. I ordered their Wurst Sandwich, which is a choice of sausage in a toasted hoagie with Swiss cheese and sauerkraut and a side. It was pretty good, and at $12, an ok price. The other person in my group ordered a club sandwich which came with a side of fries. The service was good but not extraordinary. The place has a very comfortable feel and they brew their own beer, so it certainly worth a visit. read more

Service is terrible. Hadn't been in a while, figured I'd give it another shot. Previous experiences, service also less than desirable. Gave it a fair shake and came to the same conclusion, the staffs lack of passion and engagement is going to ruin the legacy. Beer was cold and tasty. Food was fair. Over 1.5hr to get a second beer. Staff not engaged, on their phones. Appeared that off-shift team members were coming in and out of the restaurant, going to hostess station to use phone charger. The food variety it what brought us back...and the GD first encounter some new food...Service was a little lackluster, especially at the end...waiting 15 minutes just for the check to show up...never returned to see how the food was after being dropped off..The flight of beers are always a hit for the wife and I...started with the pretzel...alway a crowd favorite...Also rolled with a knackwurst with sauerkraut, bread and Mustard...alone the GD tried the kraust...not a huge fan...but with bread, wurst, kraut and a tad of mustard...she was a fan..and went in for seconds.. We were one of 4 parties at this establishment to eat that night (biggest group there was 2-3 people), and feel like we got the better end of the deal for it! Service was still fairly slow, but the waitress was kind, but her leisurely attitude in checking on us kept me from drinking as many beers as I probably would have.. So maybe that's a good thing actually haha. But, I had 2 different brews - both were great - and shared the pretzel appetizer (fairly good), and ate the Schinken Schnitzel (or something like that). The beer we tried was very great and there were plenty of places to sit in their bar portion of the establishment. I usually find restaurants are overrated on yelp, but this one is the opposite. Sure this is not a Michelin star restaurant but the food was not bad at all. We ordered the sausage sampler. She checked on us constantly. There was a huge party of 60 people, and she made sure that we got our order in before them. I gave it four stars because the of the price of our bottle of wine. Came in here on our last day in Fredrickburg... plenty of seating , plenty of beer and food options. We opted for the sausage sampler with a side of sour kraut and mashed potatees with brown gravy . Also with the blue cheese salad. The sausages were fantastic, the sour kraut was warm and delicious! And the gravy was outstanding! Stumbled in here for lunch in Fredericksburg. It's conveniently located on the corner on Main Street. It is a lot bigger than it looks from the outside. We were seated immediately in the dining room. There is also plenty of bar seating and more picnic style seating in the biergarten. We ordered a spread of appetizers - egg rolls, chicken wings spinach dip and a bowl of chili. Everything was tasty. The chili was a lil heavy on the meat for me, but was flavorful and the Cornbread it comes with was really good. Their beer is great but the food and service is just okay. Ate there yesterday afternoon. Our waitress brought out the wrong food for my daughter. When my daughter told her that she ordered CFS and not CFC, she said, "she said chicken fried chicken". No, she did not. My daughter has never ordered CFC as CFS is her favorite food. It was ridiculous, no sorry or anything. We just had to sit there and we had to wait for the food to be remade. She almost acted like we were lying about what we ordered. Do not plan to go back to eat ever again. We have eaten there many times and have taken people with us but the food and service just isn't very good anymore and if I'm going to spend that much money on a meal, I would appreciate better customer service and better tasting food. read more

Coke products served in can, no refills, at a brewey? Onion Rings too greasy should have been fried at higher temp. Sausage Sampler plenty for two or a good appitiser. Welcome host was extreamly friendly. Located downtown on south side of Main street. Street parking can be a bit tough when busy. Lots of air movement. Nice restrooms. Wow, this place is good for locals and tourists too. Sausage sampler, and a flight of beer samples is a good combination. Service was excellent and offered us a wealth of information on the sampler's. Atmosphere is Biergarten theme, and late 19th century. read more
