I've come here countless times for the burger and garlic fries which I believe are 10/10. Today I decided to try something new-- the korean cheesesteak and the bbq fries. Both of these are some of their most famous items so I was excited to try. Let me tell you... not impressed. It was a good cheesesteak but it was very regular. The one at Big Dave's is better in my opinion but overall not bad, just not great. The bbq fries-- skip. The flavor is weird, and it needs a better sauce. So, Fred's Meat & Bread was featured by the Michelin Star folks. I already had them on my list to try, but after that, I had to give them a go. When I walked up to the counter, I saw signs hyping up their double stack burger. "#1 burger in Atlanta!" and even a food critic claiming the burger was so good that it "made him feel more American." I would give this restaurant a 3.75 to 3.85 out of 4 stars but yielded benefit of the doubt due to good pricing, hefty portions, and overall satisfaction derived. Had the Shrimp Po'Boy; Blackened Salmon; and Korean Chicken Cheesesteak sandwiches. While I would say the salmon reigned supreme, all of them had their own charm. The cheesesteak would receive the anchor score on account of the sweetness being a bit basic, and not working well with chicken. While I understand it would work better with beef, I had to improvise due to having a partner who does not consume beef. My critique of the simplicity of the marinade and sauce stands, however, and that the basic perhaps be buttressed by other flavors. read more

"The best burger for a hangover I've had in my life." That's what I was told when going to Fred's Meat & Bread. However, unfortunately (or fortunately!) I wasn't hungover. The atmosphere is great, if not a little cramped. Inside of a fun food hall, on the Atlanta Belt Line, there's things for everyone! Service was fast, the line went by smoothly, and my expectations were higher. The good news? Food came out quickly, and my burgers and fries arrived on scene faster than you could say "Fred, where's my meat and bread?" The downside? Well. The burger was a bit too greasy for me. I recently had the pleasure of trying this Michelin Bib Gourmand on Tuesday evening. Thankfully, the line wasn't long when I ordered. It got slightly more busy afterwards (my family has called this our own effect). I asked the server to recommend me something, which was the Korean Cheesesteak. The guy in line before me also ordered it, so I thought it can't be that bad. I paired this sandwich with the fries with aioli. I thought the sandwich itself was heavenly. It may have been a little too heavy/spicy (but nothing unbearable) so I had to save the second half for leftovers. The garlic aioli was great, and the people at dinner with me in the Krog food court thought the fries were amazing. I thought they were seasoned well, too, but they were a little too thick cut for my liking. I'm usually not a sandwich person but Fred's definitely knocked my socks off. One of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Located in Krog Street Market, this was the one place I had to try, though let's be honest I had many I ordered the ITALIAN GRINDER (salami, mortadella, pork, provolone, tomato, iceberg, garlic aioli, oil & vinegar, cherry peppers) and it was truly a phenomenal sandwich through and through. It was a large chick pea patty with avocado, arugula, and tomatoes. It was a good flavor combination, and I enjoyed it. My husband got the cheesesteak. He loved it ! Freds meat and bread is in my top 3 burgers I have had in Georgia! The burger stack is delicious. Its a simple smashburger with pickles and cheddar cheese. It's so good that I don't even add the bacon. I am not sure what they do to the patties but this burger is super addicting and everytime I am near Krogg Street Market I MUST stop by! I also purchased the garlic fries. I noticed they have changed their seasoning. The garlic fries basically looked green before. The fries were my favorite -they were perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside, evenly cooked, and nice and thick--to be honest, they were pretty filling by themselves. I have been a loyal fan of Fred's for a long time. It saddens me to leave this but I will never go back. They have gotten so busy their product is garbage. I tried their basic cheesesteak sandwich and thought it was pretty decent! Since they got a Bib Gourmand this year I decided to give this spot a try! We came here on a Saturday at dinnertime so it was pretty busy inside the food hall. I ordered the burger with Old Bay seasoned fries. My husband got the Grinder with his own classic fries. Granted, we definitely could have shared 1 order of fries, but we wanted to try two flavors. Everything was very satisfying, exactly what you want in a burger and sandwich. The prices might seem a little high, but the portions are definitely large. These are some of the best garlic fries you can get in Atlanta. They have been a staple for quite some time now. Came in and ordered a standard cheesesteak, garlic fries, and a can of soda. This, along with a tip, came out to about 31 dollars. I also paid to park, which was 15 dollars for 3 hours. Not factoring that in though. My meal was ready very quickly. The cheesesteak was good. I won't say it's better than what's in Philadelphia, but it's done right and will hold up to anyone else's cheesesteak. The garlic fries were more of a mixed bag. These were DROWNING in oil. I am not being hyperbolic to state that a cup of garlicky oil was in my portion size, considering that a colossal amount pooled at the bottom and the fries were soaked through. Amazingly, they stayed crispy with every bite despite being drenched in oil. I saw another photo of the garlic fries which did NOT have this problem. That concerns me as it appears to have been a quality control issue, something I wasn't expecting until I started typing this review out. Seating in front of the location is minimal but there's plenty of seating around Krog Street Market itself. I thought this was good, but not amazing. If I was in the area, I'd certainly come back and try it again. Given that it's a bit expensive and given that I have to pay to park (I also live about 30 minutes away), I don't think this merits a second trip back JUST to try Fred's Meat and Bread again. If a Bib Gourmand rating is meant to represent one of the best combinations of quality and value in Atlanta... I think they fall short. This was still a good experience. read more

I was told by many people that the Korean Cheesesteak from Fred's is a must try in the Atlanta area and once I read the description of this sandwich I knew there wasn't anyway I could skip this. It's got gochujang sauce, american cheese, candied jalapeños, green onion, garlic aioli. The flavor and spice from the fermented chili paste really comes through and the little crispy sweet bites from the candied jalapeños was a great touch. I did think the sandwich as a whole was fine but what actually impressed me was the fries. The service here was great, the guy helping me answered all of my questions and was patient with me. There wasn't a line when I walked up and that was perfect as I was hungry enough to eat the entire menu!
