Having breakfast with Matt O. and his friend Becky. I'm told this diner is really good.

I had breakfast here with #1 son and his friend who lives close by and recommended it. From the moment we walked in I could tell why this place has earned such a loyal following. This locally owned and operated spot is located in the River Town Shopping Center at 148 Allegheny River Boulevard, Freedom Square Diner is a staple for locals in Verona, and the whole area. They opened in 2013, expanding from its original Cranberry Township location, and has since carved out a niche by focusing on breakfast and lunch with a warm, community-centered approach that works. The atmosphere is inviting and relaxed and the cozy coffee counter near the entrance adds to the charm. The place is busy but still friendly and familiar, I mean I love a diner vibe ! The menu is extensive and IMO breakfast is the star of the show, with standout items like the Create Your Own Omelette, the Hungryman Breakfast off a nice spread of eggs, bacon, pancakes, and home fries, that's what Matt O. had and he's now a fan. I had the Nutella French Toast that was like a homage to Elvis with bananas, strawberries and lots of sweet goodness, it was special! I also got a side of sausage gravy and biscuit to share, and these Yinzers actually nailed this Southern favorite. For lunch, the Whale of a Fish Sandwich is a big favorite here, it's hand-breaded haddock on a hoagie roll with tartar sauce and fries. Other popular dishes include the Hot Roast Beef Sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy, the Steak Salad with garlic-marinated filet, and the Mushroom Swiss Burger with crispy fries. They even have Homemade clam chowder, I will definitely scope that out on my next visit. The diner has wheelchair-accessible entrances, outdoor dining, takeout, and offers a veterans discount, gotta love it! Bottom line: Whether you're craving a hearty breakfast, a nostalgic lunch, or just a good cup of coffee in a welcoming setting, Freedom Square Diner delivers. Good food, great service in a welcoming environment, it's highly recommended!!! Hours: Monday through Saturday from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and Sunday from 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

My new breakfast spot! The food is really good, & service is good, fast, and friendly! Can't beat the prices either!

Quite disappointed with this place, to be honest. I've been past it so many times that I finally decided to give it a try. I came in around 12:30-1 PM. They weren't super busy, but it wasn't an empty restaurant either. I had to wait for quite a while awkwardly near the entrance before someone asked if I had gotten served. When I finally ordered, I got the mushroom Swiss burger but substituted for chicken breast. One nice thing about this place is that they still do breakfast all day. Other than that, the service just wasn't that great, and the food left much to be desired. The cheese was greasy and flavorless. The meat itself, and the fries, were packed full of oil. The chicken was rubbery -- like it had just been reheated from frozen. Not seasoned well. The bread was the best part of the sandwich. The fries also had no seasoning and had to be doused in ketchup to have any flavor. All in all, I wanted to like this place, but I didn't. Maybe their sweet offerings like pancakes and French toast are better, but the burgers aren't the best to say the least.

I wanted so badly to love this place!! It all came down to something so simple and so vital: TEMPERATURE. The food was good, but it could've been great had it not been room temperature/borderline cold. Not sure what the miss was, but man was it detrimental. Everything else about it was spot on. Classic diner vibe and super friendly servers! I will be trying it again, I just wish the first time would've left me rushing back!

Always a great dining experience at Freedom Square. Food is great and the staff is excellent. They just do a great job! Today I had the Crab Benedict and it was really good. I highly recommend it.

This is the best diner breakfast in Pittsburgh, hands down! The waiters are so friendly and they move fast! The food is delicious and comes out hot. Get the cottage potatoes, trust me on this! The restaurant is no frills, but it's clean and the booths are cozy.

Cute! Old fashioned diner! Has everything you could want here! Super friendly! Super fast!! And Great Food!! Also great coffee! I had the Buffalo Chicken Salad!,and really loved it! I would definitely be happy to have it again!! My husband had a breakfast platter-and was soooo happy to have the Mancinis bread as toast with his food. My mom had the meatloaf platter-she loves it so much-it's always her go-to meal here! She remarked at his delicious the homemade mashed potatoes were!

Decided to stop in for breakfast, and they didn't disappoint. There was a line, but we were seated quickly. The service was great and so was the food. I had pecan French toast and crispy bacon. OMG the bacon was perfect. We'll certainly go back and try more menu items. It was a great experience! Menu options for all, spacious dining room and plenty of parking.

A family member got the Cobb salad, and they're brought it out with an enormous, and tasty, piece of chicken on top. Another family member got the Chophouse salad, and it came out with a huge hanger steak. Instead of fries, it had redskin potatoes and it looked almost like somebody put a salad together and cooked a roast to put on it. The only thing off was that it was requested to be medium, and it was seated nicely, but far closer to rare. We tried the oysters, and they were good. They came out with 3 sauces (cocktail, hot sauce, and cucumber mignonette). We tried the potato croquettes, and they're game with a slice of jalapeño and a spicy sauce. The croquettes were crispy on the outside and really airy on the inside. The jalapeño was a great touch as it added some bite that we all liked. I'd get this again. We tried the Burrata toast, and it consisted of four pieces that had an enormous ball of cheese. They were a group favorite. I'd definitely get it again. We tried the beef carpaccio, and it came out with a large portion of toast. I thought the beef was good, but I preferred it without the toast as it seemed to hide the beef flavor. I went with the seared salmon, and that came with grains and pickled onions. The salmon was cooked very well, and I feel like the grain, onions, and sauces gave it a unique flavor. I appreciated them doing something different. I got the broccoli as a side as I just don't see it as an option very often. It had a balsamic glaze, tomato, and it was cooked well. I also got to try some of their lamb chops, and the portion was huge. The lamb itself was good, but there was a spice on it that didn't seem to be equally distributed. You'd not taste it for a few bites, then you'd take a bite and this heat would kick in. It wasn't bad by any means, but it was enough that several of us noticed it. The lamb came with roasted carrots, and those were amazing. They are easily the best carrots that any of us had, and they're good enough that I think it's worth mentioning. One person got dessert, the crème brûlée, and she said she'd have been happy to have five more brought out, so it's a safe assumption that it was tasty. Lastly, the service was exceptional. I'm really sorry that I didn't catch her name, but she was great. With everything that was ordered, she handled it all well and she couldn't have been kinder. I'd definitely be good with coming back sometime in the near future.

Soon she took our order and brought out our drinks and foods. At the end of the meal, she promptly processed our payment and thanked us. Here are my ratings for what my husband and I ate: Turkish Plate - 4.5 stars - I think that Gino might be Turkish, and this entree was one of the few Turkish menu items. It consisted of scrambled eggs, black olives, two cheeses, sliced tomato and cucumber, French fries, toasted bread, jelly, honey, and butter. Fruit Tea Waffle - 5 stars - A waffle was topped with Nutella, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, and powdered sugar. The fruits were very fresh, abundant, and sweet. On the side was whipped cream. Egg-bacon Omelet - 4 stars - My husband ate this omelet, and he thought that it tasted good. It was a good size, and it contained bacon, onions, and mozzarella cheese. On the side were three plain pancakes. Orange juice - 4.5 stars - This orange juice contained some purple and tasted fresh.

I flew in from Atlanta and my friend said I had to try it. They're closed on Sat/Sun so we went that Friday. The shop is quaint but cute. It's takeout only. We arrived at 11:50am. They cut off breakfast ordering around noon. So we got there in the nick of time. And a line of people came in after we did but they still honored their orders. We ordered the Speecy Spicy on a croissant. I got mine without greens. The desserts looked so good I also bought an enormous chocolate chip cookie and my friend got the Nutella cookie stuffed with raspberry. Our order was made pretty quickly. I opted to eat in the car because it smelled delicious and I couldn't wait til we got back. Opening the wrapper was like opening Christmas presents...the anticipation and excitement were at a 10. First bite, I melted. It was everything I needed. The croissant was buttery, flaky and soft. The folded egg was fluffy and the way the cheese melted in between the layers was heaven sent. The bam bam sauce took it up a notch but the bacon stole the show. I've never in my life had bacon that tasted that good. It's such a satisfying and filling sandwich that I only ate half and decided to save the rest for the next day which I might add was still tasty. Air fry it for 7-10 mins and then microwave for an additional 2 mins and it tasted like I just got it. I was in town for 5 days and had it my 2nd day and my 5th day as well. I was lucky that they decided to make breakfast on a Monday and I flew out that afternoon so we made a stop to get me 1 more for the road. This time I left the greens (spinach) on the sandwich and I still loved it. I will def come back to Pittsburg just for this breakfast and the desserts.
