A quintessential Aspen experience, this restaurant was well worth the hype! In fact, I think it might have been the coziest and most charming restaurant I'ver ever been too. A little on the pricy side, but we'll worth it for the amazing ambiance and service. As a group of 5, we started with cocktails/wine and the Escargot which was sooo tasty and served with the fluffiest/crispiest bread for dipping. For dinner, we tried the Kobe Beef Burger which was cooked perfectly medium and accented with truffle and caramelized onions. We also tried the Coq au Vin (braised chicken) and Kaiser-Schnitzel, which were also quite tasty. I hope to go back and try their fondue and raclette, which were someone the more unique items on their menu that we opted to skip. Overall highly recommend! I went in for Happy Hour and ordered a tonic water with lime to drink. I have been sober for a long time....and was brought a gin and tonic. I told the waiter this has alcohol in it--he said no. I told him to smell it. He then took it to the bartender and asked him. The bartender had put gin in it.... The bartenders friend at the end of the bar said.."eh, things happen." Came here for my birthday. Loved the ambiance and interior. My friends and I don't typically fancy French food but all dishes were delicious and turned us on to French food. The only issue I have with this place is that it took 15 minutes for a server to greet us and order drinks even though another table sat way after us and was served before us. And then once we took our first bite of food it felt like they were already trying to take plates away ti turn over the table quickly even though we hadn't even been there for 40 minutes. Also they don't do anything for birthdays which was disappointing. The server just said happy birthday and shook my hand lol. Drinks were fine. Overall don't come here for a special occasion. Other places like catch will provide cake or melted chocolate which seems more festive and do more than shaking your hand. Service was mediocre so that's why I took a star away. read more

We stayed in Aspen for four nights and came here for dinner the first and last night. In retrospect, we should have come here every night. After some pretentious disappointments at other restaurants in the area, our last night back at FAB seemed like a breath of fresh air. The first night we had the cassoulet, and it was comforting seeing the staff eating the same dish (we were dining quite late), clear that they trust their own cooking. The second, we had the boef bourguignon. I'd have had a small preference for it to have been served over potatoes rather than noodles, but it was still excellent and full of concentrated flavor and the carrots didn't get "mushy," as sometimes happens with long-cooked stews. The service was impeccable and unobtrusive; we never felt rushed and there was no hint of pretension. In fact, we even had to let them know when we were ready to leave. Some might consider this distant or withdrawn, but for us it was absolutely perfect. We were there to have a good time, not seek validation from obsequious staff, as seemed to be common in the Aspen dining scene. read more

Stopped by for a late lunch on a sunny Saturday with our pupper. Like many places here, they are dog friendly. We ordered a glass of wine and beer along with caprese panini and truffle gnocchi. Panini was decent, nothing too special or fancy. Truffle gnocchi was pretty good, very rich cream sauce with plenty of truffle and lardon pieces. Our server was very attentive in the beginning, giving us recommendations on wine and dishes. He even offered to bring ham for our doggo. After we got our food, however, he didn't stop by until we were done and ready to pay. One thing to note though, the portion sizes were very small. I get that we ordered from the lunch menu, but I just expected a bit more with how much they charge here. I'm not sure if we would come back next time given the fact that there are plenty of other restaurants to check out in Aspen with better quality & price. Lovely bistro in the heart of aspen! I loved the rusty cabin design with a cozy interior filled with blankets, cushions, and woody furnitures. Be sure to sit in the top-level cabin if you can for the best pictures and views! The cheese fondue was one of the best I've had, being super rich with the perfect mixture of various types of cheese. I highly recommend adding the truffle because it made the dish 1000x better! The onion soup was very tasty as well, with bits of baguettes and more than enough cheese without being too heavy or sweet. Apart from the appetizers, however, the mains and desserts were more lacklustre. The fish and duck were ok but more on the bland side, while the crepe suzette was way too bitter. Overall, this is a super cute bistro with amazing cheese fondue, but other dishes may need some improvement. read more

Mediocre, at best. We were a little confused by the reviews as they seemed pretty inconsistent. I'm definitely in the boat I'd give people a chance because maybe some other reviews were a fluke. We ordered the French onion soup, sea bass and truffle gnocchi. We decided to stick with these as they seemed like mainly positive reviews. The French onion soup had a very bizarre flavor. It tasted more like tomato soup with a beef bouillon cube added. The consistency was a little thicker than a normal French onion and was lacking flavor. The sea bass was pretty bad. I almost sent it back but honestly was feeling sick while eating it and didn't want to bother with the trouble. I have never had a fishy sea bass before as it is such a mild fish. The only way I could cover up the fishiness was dunking it in the lemon butter sauce. The marinara vegetable medley beneath it felt so out of place under the fish and did not mesh well with the rest of the dish at all. My fiancé got the gnocchi which was highly rated. I had read some reviews about it being overpowering and just thought, hey, that's truffle. But I agree, it felt like there was no balance to the sauce. It was just overwhelming truffle (and we didn't have the truffle added to the top). I noticed another patron mention this but the gnocchi had a strange consistency. The outside was normal if not a little on the soft side. The inside however, was pasty like the flour and water didn't mix all the way in the middle and just left the gnocchi feeling chewy and odd. We paid over $150 and just really not impressed. The staff was all very pleasant. Also, a note about the outdoor lower patio: the bench tables are against a wall with decorations. Cute look but you end up sitting with your back against a picture or a washboard. We asked to be moved inside. Inside was much nicer but the tables are so close together and have to move them to get in and out. I Overall, I would not recommend. read more

This has to be one of the most dreadful service experiences we've had in a very long time. We have been in places that have been slammed, but here we were basically ignored throughout service, as were tables next to us. After being seated our server did not show up for 15 minutes. When he showed up he said bluntly "are you ready?" and we gave him our order, but told him we never got the wine list. He came back a few minutes later but he never returned to ask what wine we wanted, so we said forget the wine. He also took our bottle of water which was never refilled, and we never got checked on the rest of the meal. Literally we never saw our server for the rest of the meal, we basically had to yell at him to get us more water and the check. The food - good but ridiculously overpriced for what you get. Wife ordered the $62 saffron scallops and there were three and a half scallops, sauce, a few tomatoes and no starch. Two small french onion soups for $44. Insane. Quality was good but I expect to pay these kinds of prices at The French Laundry or Alinea, not a homestyle French restaurant, albeit it is Aspen. Even at being overpriced, the service was just awful, and management is completely to blame. There is zero attention being paid to the front of house, they're woefully understaffed and untrained. No care or attention to detail. Not a single visit to our table to see what we needed. Just unacceptable for any restaurant, and insulting at this price point. I don't blame the servers, they're working with the situation handed to them. This is all management being clueless and greedy. Hard pass. read more

Amazing restaurant in the heart of Aspen. If you aren't looking for it , you may miss it, even if it's on the corner. Some seating outside, but most of the seating is downstairs. Adorable outdoor seating in the courtyard with cozy chairs, warm and inviting decor, but the inside is even more amazing. Transporting you to a mountain side restaurant in the Alps, with fur covers, antler chandeliers and rustic tables and chairs. Even with the mountain vibes, it still feels upscale with the linen napkins, beautiful glasses and candles all aglow. We ordered a couple of their signature cocktails which were unique and delicious, and had the Foie Gras to share as our appetizer. Would highly recommend as it was so good! It was lunch time so we ordered the Caprese Sandwich, Salade de Chèvre Chaud, and Boeuf Bourguignon. These would all be recommended and I would order these again. Unfortunately we did not have room for dessert - will have to enjoy that for another time. The service was friendly, attentive and fast. It is a little expensive but well worth it! Truffle Gnocchi-Flette alone would be 5 stars.. but.. I didn't have a good dining experience on two occasions. The first visit, we were sat next to the kitchen where the servers went to grab drinks and food. I sat on the outside and my chair kept being bumped into. The gnocchi was good enough for me to stop by a second time to try the French onion soup. Soup was nothing to rave about. However, the server I got didn't seem like he wanted to be there and never even greeted me. SO CLOSE to 5 stars! My favorite thing about this restaurant was the interior. I sat in their covered upper-level outdoor area. It was really cute and comfortable. Also, I went downstairs to see their indoor seating and I absolutely loved the vibe. The decor and lighting made it feel intimate, classy, and cozy at the same time. I loved it! The food was decent but pretty expensive for what you get. However, I didn't deduct stars due to price because anywhere you go in Aspen is going to be overpriced. I ordered the Crepe Suzette and it was WAY too alcoholic. It tasted like they didn't cook down the Grand Marnier enough. It legitimately tasted like I was drinking a shot. Not fun. Lastly, it took them a while to take my order after I was seated. Someone came over to clean my table WHILE I was seated and didn't even acknowledge me. Once the waiter finally came over to me he was super nice and respectful, but I wish I was acknowledged sooner than after sitting there for 10 minutes feeling basically invisible. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place for lunch or dinner in Aspen. There are some small issues I hope that they figure out. Ate here when I was in town for the Food & Wine classic, wound up on one of the outside makeshift tables that everyone has added for COVID. A+ on this structure and making it not feel like an afterthought. Service was good and as one would expect at this price point. Food was also to be expected for the cost, good well executed french classics, good portion size, and reasonable value given that you are in Aspen.
