I agree the prices are a little high (especially for the area) and having to clean up your own dishes isn't a plus (the place is trying to be a cafe), but worse than that... the server is so slow! I've never seen a place before with everything already made behind a glass display case, still take 15 minutes to plate. I feel bad for anybody on a 30 minutes lunch break. Still, the food is very good. Nothing fancy... I guess as a vegan the closest thing you have to that is Impanema but still has a site down cafe, sandwich place, Frescca makes some great dishes. Fresca was excellent, with a reasonably extensive and reasonably priced vegetarian menu. My group ordered a pizza, the barbecue sandwich (the protein was seitan), and the broccolini sandwich with white bean paste). All were excellent, and all were happy. You order at a counter and they bring the food to you. If I were a vegetarian, this would be at the top of my list for a non-ethnic quick-ish meal. If you're just someone who likes food, it's well worth repeat visits. read more

Lovely little vegan deli-like cafe. It holds about 30 or so. Myriad of choices!! We had the tacos and BBQ, & soup of the day. All were delicious! Prices reasonable, serving size fair, service great. Only ding I give them is one of the dishes came to the table w/a chip. If I hadn't have noticed,then I could've hurt my finger and been out of work for a few days...take note Owner: Be diligent in surveying your tableware for signs of wear and be hasty in removing them if damaged. Simple.... That's the overall feel of this restaurant. The website, the decor, and thought process behind this restaurant is really simple. The ambiance of this place is nothing to write home about, again pretty simple, but the food definitely is. "We're not vegetarian. We just don't serve meat." Fresca may not serve meat but you definitely don't miss it. Their variety of dishes from soups and salads to pizza or curried vegetables gives everyone an option...even if you're not of the veggie mind-set. I had the BBQ seitan and it was great. The sauce was nice and sweet with coleslaw on top. My girlfriend chose the roasted broccolini with the white bean spread and she raved about it. While the two of us went with the sandwiches, my brother went with a full entree. He ordered the chili and was surprised when they gave him three options to go with it. Rice, grits, or quinoa, which are really great healthy choices that he appreciated. He loved the quinoa, the chili, and even the simple side salad to top it all off. Overall this meal was really delicious! The coleslaw that came with the sandwiches wasn't awesome but definitely refreshing. The only down part of this meal was the price. The sandwiches were around $8 and the portions were a bit small. But for, "local - organic - fresh - healthy - and damn tasty. " food, i wouldn't be surprised to see myself back there really soon! Fresca is one of my favorite restaurants in Richmond! I have had everything on the menu and there isn't a single thing I don't like. I have definitely picked favorites like the pesto pizza on thick white crust and the vegan chicken salad sandwich! Not to mention their hummus is addicting. Also, I have several friends that are vegan and/or gluten free and Fresca has the most options by far for these people. I am all for more vegetarian and vegan dining options in Richmond, but I don't think Fresca really fits the bill. First, it's rather pricey for what they are serving! I ordered the spicy sausage sandwich (actually a pita pocket type deal), vegan, with a side of potato salad. The pita was sort of spongy in texture, and was room temperature - not warmed or toasted in any way. The sausage seemed like it was store-bought rather than homemade, it reminded me of pre-packaged veggie sausage. The vegan cheese also appeared to be store-bought; again, it reminded me of the stuff I've bought at the grocery store. The red peppers and onions were cut into weird, uneven pieces, some large and some small, and were unevenly cooked as a result. I could have easily made this same sandwich at home, using good store-bought pita, vegan cheese, and vegan sausage, but with evenly cooked vegetables, for a much lower amount of money. The potato salad was just okay. Red potatoes, vegan mayonnaise, and mustard, but not much else, aside from a small, straight black hair that I found near the middle of the portion. I have wavy brown hair and the person I was dining with has long, blonde hair. What's up with that? I thought this place was all about great product, and treating the food with care and attention. My friend had the sushi sandwich, which seemed to consist of strips of raw cucumber and carrots, nori, and... not much else in a pita pocket, with a side of soy dipping sauce. She had a side of potato salad as well. For the amount of money we spent, and all the fuss Fresca makes on its website about quality of ingredients, I expected a lot more. Fresca was just incredibly underwhelming. Luckily, better choices abound for the hungry vegetarian or vegan in Richmond. You really can't go wrong with Harrison Street Coffee Shop, where the sandwiches and sides are MUCH more flavorful, the atmosphere is more relaxed, and the prices are more reasonable. Other good choices are 821 Cafe, Ipanema, and even Ellwood Thompson's hot bar, depending on what they're serving up that day. read more

My wife and I had a wonderful lunch here. We started with hummus and flatbread. The hummus had a good garlic flavor and the bread was delicious. The lentil burger had great flavor and texture. It's a bit messy, as the bread used is thin, but an excellent assembly nonetheless. The mustard potato salad was awesome. We also tried the BBQ (wife's favorite), avocado, and chorizo (my favorite) tacos. All were pretty good. When we saw the dessert pizzas, the choice was clear. Banana, peanut butter, chocolate, and peanuts...on a pizza. Sounds perfect to me, but this was the only let down. It was not bad (not sure you could get any combo of those ingredients to be bad), but it needed some fine tuning to get it right. Overall, it was a great dining experience. Relaxed, straightforward, fresh and delicious! Most items can be made vegan. We had different items and all were really flavorful and great! Hummous had nice garlic taste and best pita in area (white or wheat). They have a few specials but all the regular dishes are so good, why stray? This place is excellent to balance out a meat lover's diet. We all know benefits of veggies and most of us still don't eat enough. This place makes it easy to get the nutrition fix beneficial to all. Food is fresh, well balanced (I do love garlic!), surprisingly satisfying to my carnivore pallet. Absolutely perfect on hot days. My favorite is the broccoli pita with white bean spread. In the month since I moved to Richmond, I've been here three times and LOVE everything they do. Even though I'm a carnivore, I enjoy the fresh mostly raw dishes. Today I had the three-taco plate (spicy vegan chorizo, seitan asada, and white bean/avocado) and w side garlicky-kale salad & beautifully sliced carrots. The perfect fresh Saturday lunch. Had dinner at Fresca on Addison last night. I can only say WOW. I expected 'vegetarian' and what I got was awesome. I had the roasted cauliflower and broccoli pizza with mozzarella and my wife had the greek salad pizza (feta, calamata olives, pepperoncini) and a cup of curry butternut squash soup. Even with everybody in town serving pizza, this was by far the best we've had in Richmond. I think they've only been open a month or so but you wouldn't know it by the way they handled the packed room. All the pizzas, sandwiches and (huge) salads were $7.50, which we thought was very reasonable for what we got. It's small, and largely self service. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable, explaining that they try and keep it organic and avoid preservatives and the like. Who cares? It tasted great, that's what counts. The only down side, if you can call it that, was the music that kept fading in and out. The had a deli case with lots of vegetarian and vegan options. We took home some chili and some apple/fennel salad. Both were great. Next time I'm going for the BBQ sandwich which the guy next to me got. He said it tasted better some of the real stuff he gets in town. (He obviously hasn't been to Buz and Ned's). Next time we're going to bring our vegetarian neighbors in with us and see if they love it as much as we did. Welcome neighbors. read more

Particularly since Fresca advertised a gluten free dish on June 21st. "Fried Chicken of the wood w/ garlic mashed potatoes and roasted Brussels sprouts tonight! vegan and gluten free!" Since my original post, someone from Fresca graciously reached out, explained and apologized, but held true to the comments about flour in the air "we make our own pizza dough and our pita bread in house, naturally flour is airborne. Also, we use the same, very hot, oven to cook the pizzas. To most this is no problem but to those severely allergic this can be very serious." I don't know how my post could have been removed. ??? Here is the original form 3/31/2013...... gluten free pizza - If you have Celiac disease, do not go here. My daughter has Celiac, and was participating in a soccer tournament in the Richmond area March 15-17. After her game on March 16th, we went in search of something gluten free. She was in the mood for pizza, and Fresca came up on google. When we went in, the place smelled great and really got us hungry. My daughter ordered a 3 or 4 cheese gluten free pizza, and the girl behind the counter said OK - waiting for my order. As I have learned, I held up and told the young lady that my daughter has gluten allergies, and that the gluten free pizza she ordered was not just a preference. At this point, the girl said, well "there is a lot of flour in here, and it does get into the air". I had never heard this before, so I asked, what about the preparation areas. To which she responded, "well, since there is so much flour in the air, we can't guarantee the surfaces are clean. If you are going to get sick from gluten, we can't guarantee the pizza will be gluten free." ????? At this point, as hungry as we were - we obviously left. Why does Fresca advertise that they are gluten free??? Why was the girl behind the counter going to take our gluten free order, until I mentioned that my daughter couldn't have gluten in her food??? It appears she would have gladly served my daughter a contaminated "gluten free" meal, accepted the money, without understanding what it could do her. From my experience, Fresca cannot guarantee your food will be gluten free. If you have Celiac Disease - do not dine at Fresca!!! read more

A little pricey for lunch but worth the money! The sushi wrap is one of my favorite items on their menu. The ginger and wasabi are the perfect flavor together and the bread is so fresh. They really strive to be healthy and clean and you can feel it the moment you walk into this place. It's truly delicious. The staff is really friendly too. this is a normal review, but will end with an odd statement. fresca is great. the food is wonderful. if you're a vegetarian or vegan it's yet another great place in richmond to enjoy a meal where you have more then two options. all the ingredients are fresh and tasty. the seitan is always the right consistency and never chewy. the greek sandwich is my current favorite. it's light and filling. plus the atmosphere is cool and the staff is super helpful. and they have a cool beer selection. if fresca was running for president i would vote for them. just sayin. read more

This place is amazing! The owners seem very friendly and the staff is like a big family. I eat here everyday that its open and was excited they extended the hours because I live a hour away, but the travel is worth it. The lentil burger is the best thing I've tasted ever. The vegan cupcakes are better than any junk food I used to eat before becoming Vegan. I only hope the community supports this place so it never shuts down, to be honest I wish they'd open a second location in the tri-cities area. Fresca is an awesome addition to the Richmond restaurant family, because everything you eat here, you feel good about and it's all quality, fresh and creatively prepared. I got the Seitan BBQ sandwich in their to-die-for made-to-order wheat pita pocket and a side of the brussels sprouts, which were well-cooked. Everything here is Vegan/Vegetarian, in order to prove that you can still pop with flavor and forgo the crutch of meat! The people are very kind and accomodating, and it's a great place to get a take-out sandwich and enjoy a nice picnic at Maymont (that's what I did!) The seitan and slaw both had good, crisp flavor and the portion was very reasonable for the price. The owners are a team with a passion and it really shows! read more

This place has great individual size pizzas with creative vegan and vegetarian options. They home make their pita bread, and they seem to use the same excellent dough as the crust for their pizzas. Saturday evening after 5 pizzas are half off, a nice time to experiment with different varieties. I've had the chorizo pizza and kale pizza, both of which are very good. The sushi sandwich is also really tasty! Definitely a nice, small, local spot to try out. read more

Without a doubt Fresca on Addision is one of the top vegetarian restaurants in Richmond City. I have never had a negative experience here, the service and food has always been extremely immaculate. The lentil burger is the best dish I have ordered but the broccolini sandwich isnt to far behind it! Nice outdoor patio and indoor seating. This is one of my favorite spots for vegetarian/vegan food. The pizza is very well done. I am partial to the Greek Pizza, which is topped with all the ingredients usually found in a Greek Salad.
