This review is just for the drag brunch that they have on the weekends. I am currently dating a woman whose daughter is into drag queens. I mentioned to her that this drag brunch has become super popular, and they both asked for me to make a reservation. Regarding reservations, and this may change in the future, but when I went to the website to make a reservation, the website sent me to Yelp. This isn't a complaint. Making the reservation was super easy and I immediately got a confirmation email. I'm just saying this for your information. We got in and were immediately seated. The restaurant is a bit on the narrow side, but deep. The décor is very nice. The service was wonderful. I ordered the quesadilla on the brunch menu. I don't know how authentic is was, but it was wonderful. Now, my girlfriend and her daughter have some dietary restrictions (they don't eat pork), and they asked that bacon be dropped off their orders. The waiter said, "No problem," and they all loved their food. Now for the drag show: When it started, my girlfriend and I mentioned the possibility of taking our moms here for Mother's Day. Then the show got raunchy... super raunchy. Don't get me wrong, it was great, and I don't think my mom would mind, but my girlfriend and I gave each other a "hmm... maybe not for our moms" look. Also, if you are a devout Trump supporter, this show is definitely not for you. That being said, Gloria Swansong and Golden Delicious gave a great show. They interact with the audience wonderfully, and they have great comedic timing. And, seriously, they were both super nice before and after the show. This restaurant is not close to our home in Long Island City on Center Blvd, but we liked the vibe. VERY friendly wait staff and service is really nice. Unfortunately, on our 3rd visit for dinner, we noticed our waitress decided to add a 20% tip on our check which seems odd for a table of two people. We were turned off by this, especially since we often tip more than that. With minor food issues like spoiled lettuce in my salad, we decided it wasn't worth the distance from home. The two servers at the time, Jordan and Edwin, were extremely attentive and really pushed the experience to a next level with their service, recommendations, and overall kindness. It's more like 3.5 stars. We exchanged Groupons after the last place was nasty to us (See Jon L.'s review on Butcher Bar). This place was considerably nicer but very slow. We sat down at 6:30 ordered by 6:45 but the food didn't show up till almost 7:30. I had the Pancho Villa which is a burger with avocado, bacon, and cheese with a side of fries. I have to say it was delicious. The dipping sauce for the fries were also great. At $16 it was a little on the pricey side. My daughter had the pork taco. She liked it. My son had the carne asada and my husband had several tacos. The food is good but quite expensive. A taco was $4.50 each and you had to order a minimum of three. The carne asada was $26. With the Groupon it was more affordable. The interior is very cute and there was a myriad of interesting drinks on the menu. First time here and it was absolutely delicious!!! Got here at approximately 3:30 and we were the only ones in the place. We left around 7:30 and it was full of people having dinner. The food and the drinks were all on point and our waitress was super sweet. A few of the guys with our group wanted to watch the World Cup games and they switched the channels immediately. I drank there red sangria the whole night and it was definitely strong. My friends were all having tamarindo mojitos and said they were the best mojitos they've ever had. We were definitely the loud annoying group there and they were still very nice and accommodating. The tacos are a little pricey (4.00 each and up) but they are worth it! This place is shady. I ate here for dinner the other night and noticed that the server added on a 20% gratuity for our party of 2. I am fairly certain that this is not legal and at the very least a bad business practice. It does not say anywhere on the menu that tips are added automatically. Amazing experience overall. Food exceeded expectations - had the carne asada skirt steak and fajita platter. Not only is it filling but it was cooked just right, perfectly tender. Servers are very professional and friendly, I do believe they might have been the owners themselves. Was lucky enough to come in on a drag bingo night and the performances were very entertaining. Performers put on a great show and I can tell they put in a lot of effort into it which is very respectable. I'm glad I had a bunch of cash tip $ on me. BTW my girl won bingo lol. 5 stars to the Drag Brunch at Frescos Cantina. This show was fabulous, funny, cheerful, dynamic. Ohh and rated R, LOL It is a full show with a side of brunch. Must bring singles for tips. I had a blast, will return and definitely recommend for a girl's brunch. The food was very good, good presentation and portion size. The Brunch menu is preset at $37 or a $25 minimum a la carte; affordable and great options. A+ to the drinks. Only not so great detail was that someone from my party did not show last minute and I had to pay the $20 cancellation fee for the person. My sister and I made a reservation for Sunday drag brunch. From the moment we walked in, we were amazed at how kind/helpful/generous everyone was. Definitely not something I'm used to in the city! Food was pretty decent. I could have gone for a wider assortment on the brunch menu. Mimosa/sangria carafes were the right size for the occasion and packed a powerful enough punch. The queens were a blast, and the smaller/more intimate setting was a fun way to enjoy the entire experience. I'll definitely be back for brunch again and look forward to coming during non-brunch hours. I have never written a negative review before but the incredibly poor level of customer service that I received from this restaurant has propelled me to do so. I placed an order yesterday for delivery tonight, in anticipation that today is cinco de mayo and a lot of people would be ordering in. There was no point in placing my order ahead of time, because the order arrived 3 hours late. I tried calling the restaurant multiple times to check on the status of my order and many times the line was busy and the call did not go through. I can only imagine that it was because they messed up multiple other customers as well. Eventually, 2 hours after my order was supposed to arrive, I received a text that they ran out of the tacos I ordered. I really don't understand the point of placing my order a day early if I wasn't going to be prioritized in the first place. But okay, I placed a substitution order, and waited another HOUR and still counting for the order to arrive. Maybe it will come some time tonight... I completely understand that everyone is working with reduced labor during this time, but the poor customer service is disgusting and I will never again come here. Other restaurants have done a fantastic job at keeping the customer updated, but this has been a total fail. My local spot. Even before COVID, Fresco's was a great inclusive restaurant with fantastic food. During this pandemic, they have safely pivoted to continue to serve the community. My friends from out of town always want to include this on a stop when in NYC as they know they will have the best time. Even if you are not a local, you will feel like one when you come here. The owner and all of the staff is so attentive and caring. The tacos are good my favorite is Pastelon. This place is a hidden gem. If you like a tad of spice and fun please stop by on Sundays. Can't remember the last time I was THIS impressed by a new restaurant. I was enticed by the culturally nostalgic menu items and their coinciding descriptions. The photo of Cantinflas on the wall nearly made me faint, having just read their description for Cantinflas Nachos. Every single person at my table got the pastelon taco...twice! the sauce was amazing and the entire thing was perfectly, thoughtfully crafted. All of the people that worked there were incredibly sweet. Even though we arrived right after brunch, which was described to us as a showstopping, packed house of fun, we were served as though we were their favorite customers (though, the people next to and behind us also got that touching treatment....it was warm and caring nonetheless). We had a great time at Frescos Cantina. It was our first time, 2 adults, a 12yr and 6yr old. Street parking was quick and easy. The latin music playing was great as was the decor. Our server Adrian was outstanding!!!!! He knew the menu well and gave recommendations for the kids and adults which we appreciated and glad we accepted. Adrian was also kid friendly which was a huge plus for us for me. The manager was also present and checked on us which was nice. The food was great....everyone loved their meals which were tacos, fajitas, burgers, and the Peruvian fried rice - recommendedby Adrian and so happy. All of it was gone . We also ordered 2 cocktails which were approved by my non drinking partner....the Moscow mule and coconut mojito...yum yum. Everything was great here and I cant wait to return. We went for a birthday party of 12 people and you have to make reservations weeks in advance. Which is fine. It should mean it's a good place. But apparently the weeks you are waiting for is the drag show you have to wait even longer to get your food or drinks. I waited an hour for a soda that was in a bottle. It's not like I had asked for a mixed drink which everyone else at my table was already on their second before I was given a bottle of unopened soda. Our food was sent to us 1-2 dishes at a time (with people missing appetizers) over the course of an hour and a half with some people after almost 2 hours still not getting their food. And then when we asked them not to bring it at this point 20 minutes later (2 hours and 15 minutes) they brought it over to us. We asked for the manager a number of times and the manager never came. Apparently they were downstairs but no server ever bothered to go get them. (Manager, I hope you actually see this review since your staff failed to tell you that you had people starving upstairs). The excuses we heard were we are just so busy or we weren't prepared or 5 more minutes and it should be out. Well if you cut back the number of people you let in then maybe you can actually serve the ones you have. By the time you actually got your food (most of the time the food coming to you was food no one at your table ordered) it was either already cold or tasted like it had been made in a high school cafeteria. Please don't serve anyone the beans you served today with the pork chops. They tasted like the metal tins in a high school cafeteria and tin foil. My pork chop was great aside from the fact that is was cold and my egg was kind of over cooked. The carne asada had a jelly after taste that anyone who ate it couldn't get rid of. I would give it less stars if I could because I won't be coming back nor will probably anyone I know since most of my friends who I had asked if they had been here and said "let me know how it goes" told us to just leave since it was so bad. The entertainment was great! I hope you are at other restaurants because I don't see this one lasting very long. Poor management and service gets old real fast. read more

Meh. Started off with the beef nachos, when I ordered I thought beef nachos would be chunks of beef/ steak, it was ground beef and was too oily. The chips were really thin and got soggy quick. The tacos weren't good at all, I've had better tacos from a truck for 2 bucks. They only use ONE tortilla for their tacos, they fall apart quick as you're eating them, this was seriously annoying. They only provide one lime wedge and their "hot sauce" tasted like spicy salsa dip. I ordered the Crispy Chicken taco, La Cochinita taco and Vaquita Gorda taco, the chicken was the only decent tasting one out of the three, I couldn't finish the La Cochinita (pork) taco, it just did not taste good and pork is my favorite meat. They also have a three taco minimum per order, which is a bit much considering the tacos were small, I expect more from a $4+ taco. PROS: The decor is really nice and the staff is friendly. CONS: I would not recommend this place to anyone as there way too many other options for Mexican food in Astoria and I will not be returning. Also if you read other reviews, they mention that the food isn't that great. Not sure why people/ yelpers leave 4-5 star reviews if they didn't enjoy their meal. read more

Petty policies turned a couple cheerleaders into vocal critics. We've been to Fresco's many times for their drag brunch and have been big supporters of an LGBT owned enterprise. The show is great and food is delicious but the service is mediocre (and has automatic gratuity) and management has decided that it makes sense to fine people when their whole reservation doesn't show. We had a table for 6 and had two flake and were charged an extra $40 (plus tax lol). While this is disclosed when the reservation was made, I've never seen them enforce it before. I could totally see if the entire reservation was a no-show and really thought that was what it was for but to charge a group of 4 because they were not a group of 6 is kind of ridiculous. Haven't business owners learned yet not to punish loyal customers?? I guess the owner of Fresco's still needs to learn that lesson. Trust that we will not be back again and that we'll tell everyone we talk to not to go there. read more
