Stopped by soon after opening this morning for a morning meetup with some friends. Ample seating early on and given the morning cold! Ambience was nice, and not too much noise or background disturbances. There's generally a lot of seating here, with ample outlets. I've visited previous times where there hasn't been a lot of free space because this is a student hotspot for nearby Drexel and UPenn. But that's honestly no fault to the cafe itself-- they are pretty much maxing out space without beginning to feel too cluttered and sacrificing the "vibe". Ordered a drip and a English muffin breakfast sandwich. One of my friends also completed the "Google review for a cookie" deal, and we enjoyed a piping hot freshly baked cookie! Overall I'd definitely consider this a place to meet up, or lock in while studying. Just make sure to consider the time of day and time of year academically, as this is a popular student spot. read more

Food 5/5 Lattes are good. I've ordered lavender (norm for me) and a blueberry bliss, which was different for me, yet tasty. Service 4/5 Friendly. Ambiance 4/5 The interior design and layout of the coffee shop what keeps me returning. They have ample seating and outlets. Due to this, it is quite busy, but people are rotating in/out to find seating. The patio is lovely, but the wifi does not connect out there--please address! This was my first time at Madis Coffee and I went with the Iced Cinnamon Honey Spiced Latte. When I let the cashier know I was deciding between a couple of drinks, she was very helpful in narrowing down my choice for today. The latte was excellent, not too sweet and just the right amount of spice without crossing into that candle-like flavor. I usually prefer coffee drinks on the less sweet side, so I asked the barista if the standard recipe would be balanced. He assured me it was, and he was completely right. I enjoyed it exactly as served. My friend ordered the Iced Matcha Latte, which unfortunately was not to her liking (she mentioned that she prefers the matcha at Café Maiko). The cafe itself is bright with lots of natural lighting, spacious, and inviting. There are plenty of tables, both high and low, along with a good number of outlets. It makes for a great spot to catch up with friends or settle in for some work. I came on a Saturday morning and even though there was a line, there were still open seats. I would say about 80 percent of the customers were getting work done. The wifi password is written on the chalkboard, and the music is kept at a comfortable volume that blends nicely with the ambient chatter. There is also a lovely outdoor seating area that is pleasant for getting some fresh air. Just note that the wifi is not as strong outside, and on this windy day I found a few stray leaves and specks of pollen blown into my drink (yumm free extra seasoning). For amenities, there are two restrooms that are easy to spot thanks to their bright yellow doors. Overall, I left with a very positive first impression. I can definitely see myself returning again and again for conversations or to buckle down and study away. read more

This place was great! Came here with coworkers and had our meeting, which was nice to be in a good space. It can get crowded fast. Note- some of their coffees can be sweet but their pastries are great and decadent. The lemonades are sooo nice and so are their specialty lattes. They also have a pretty heavy pour with their espressos so keep that in mind. Overall, love the place and can't wait to come back and study here! read more

I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon, and it was super busy. Luckily, I was only grabbing a drink to go, so I didn't need to worry about getting a table. The take-out counter is right inside the entrance, and it's a bit tight when there are a lot of people. The line was short though and moved quickly, and the barista who took my order was pleasant. I ordered an Iced Biscolatte and then tried to find a place to stand where I didn't feel like I was in the way or crowding the people at nearby tables, which was a challenge. Be prepared to have to move around out of the way of people coming and going and possibly get bumped into as you wait for your order. I was pleasantly surprised by how quickly my order was ready though based on how busy the cafe was, and I was on my way in less than five minutes after I'd ordered. And the Iced Biscolatte was definitely worth dealing with the crowd! It was delicious! I'll definitely be returning to order it again. It was smooth and creamy and very sweet (and I love a very sweet, dessert-like coffee drink). They also had some delicious looking pastries in the bakery case, so I'm looking forward to trying those on a return visit. read more

Very inconsistent service. On three different occasions I ordered Nitro Cold Brew only to be told they don't have it although its on the menu. Today I ordered a regular coldbrew with cold foam, paid, only to be told by the barrisra he can't put cold foam in my coffee. So I changed to a iced latte that was watery bc the never called my name. I decided to ck cups when I realized. I was standing by the counter. Breakfast sandwiche was ok. For the price, not to mention passing by four coffee shops to get Madis, service should be exceptional. Disappointed! Spending my money elsewhere. read more

Trying to up my coffee game and leave Dunkin & Starbucks alone. I walked in Madi's at 2:00pm and it was packed... students on laptops, people working. Almost every seat was filled. I want to come when it's less busy so I can take my pics and just be to myself. Not sure when or how I will accomplish that. They had some delicious looking pastries. I ordered the iced matcha latte with lavender. I don't see any lavender and it could use more sweetener. I also got a pistachio muffin, which is stiff as a board.it has walnuts in it and lots of green dye. It taste ok but needs some real pistachios Not sure if they heat anything up or you have to ask. It's just so busy I just wanna get out the way! I was excited to try this place and even more excited to leave. One of the few places that makes me fast after coffee. Their cortado and americano are some of my favorites in the city. I cannot get behind their lattes though. I have many friends who love them, but to me they are unbalanced. Somehow they taste strictly like milk and sugar. I never get the actual syrup flavor advertised. I ordered an orange blossom iced latte and a coffee cake. The orange blossom iced latte's presentation was very nice, but the syrup wasn't mixed well and the flavors did not go together, which might've been my own fault for ordering it. I would not recommend getting a fruit flavored latte. My friend ordered a salted caramel latte, which was way too syrupy and artificial. The coffee cake was quite sweet but pretty good overall. This is a very nice and inviting coffee shop. They have some breakfast items and pastries and some good seating. I ordered my usual latte and it was good. The milk was reasonably well textured and at a good temperature. The barista wasn't able to draw a heart in their store branded porcelain mugs. The flavor was good, but sugar needed. I ordered the iced matcha latte and a French toast muffin. One of my favorite things about this spot is the ambiance--huge windows let in plenty of natural light, and the soft background music creates such a calm, relaxing vibe. It's easy to see why so many people come here to work on their laptops. The iced matcha latte was not only grainy but also quite bland. That said, it actually ended up pairing well with the French toast muffin, which was rich and sweet enough to balance it out. read more

I moved to UCity right after they opened. I loved coming and grabbing coffee to study or grabbing a bite to eat. I even thought they had the best food around for a coffee shop. However, I've noticed that my favorite sandwich does not have the same quality it once had. I love the roasted turkey on a baguette, and the sandwich came with thick cut turkey breast not deli meat turkey. The sandwich also came with mixed greens and a pickle. Now it is two small pieces of plain lettuce. The most upsetting part is the sandwich is still the same price which doesn't reflect the fact that the sandwich doesn't come with fries or salad anymore. I love Madis so I hope they take into consideration that they had a great sandwich, and it's not bad now but doesn't amount to what it was before. read more

Great coffee options, good prices, friendly service, and when it's warm, plenty of places to sit down and have a relaxed pick-me-up. My only critique is that the layout of the place always makes it feel cramped. The milk and cream and such is kind of tucked away in a corner where you have to get to it, the place is usually busy (because they're good) but there's not usually any sensible line or place to wait for your orders, so every time I've been I've either been in someone's way, been blocked by someone, or the like. Come here, get good coffee, and try to have another quiet spot in Powelton Village (Drexel Park?) to sit as a backup because you might not find a spot inside. read more

I've been wanting to come here since it opened and I'm so happy I finally made my way over. It has great outdoor seating, including street seating and patio seating and a lot of indoor tables for sitting and getting some work done. The coffee was fine, but nothing too exciting. I also tried the egg and cheese which was ok, but also nothing too exciting. It was a bit dry and missing some sort of fat (maybe some extra butter or more cheese). The service was good and friendly. Loved Madi's -- my only complaint is that I wish I lived closer so I could come here more often. I ended up getting an iced latte, which they gave to me in a reusable cup (I like that they offer cups for dining in); I thought the quality of the espresso was great I enjoyed the array of pastries that were on display, and I noticed they had some fun seasonal flavors for Valentine's Day. I would've tried those if I saw those in advance. In terms of the seating, there are a decent amount of seats available for people to get work done, though I found it a little cramped at times. Madis is a very cute coffee spot with lots of seating, but it also gets extremely busy. Their drinks are definitely pricey, but you're paying in part for the ambiance and quality coffee. I came here in the early afternoon thinking that I would beat the Drexel rush, but even at ~1:30pm it was absolutely packed. Be prepared to potentially hunt for a table, because even though there are plenty of seats, there are also plenty of people! I got a ginger vanilla latte and ended up paying over $8! It was a solid latte, but there was no ginger flavor at all. The prices of coffee have skyrocketed in the past few years so I understand that ~$6-8 is standard for small coffee shops now, but at that price it should at least taste as advertised. I will probably try to find a different coffee spot so I don't have to fight for seating, but madis clearly already has a loyal fan base for good reason. read more

The original location in UCity is one of my favorite coffee shops, and this one might be better. I love the space, plenty of room to work or study, converse, etc. great view of independence hall and beautiful building. We tried the hazelnut croissant, blueberry scone, and red velvet muffin. Each were great but the scone and croissant were exceptional. Cold brew is also excellent and they have a good variety of teas for non/coffee drinkers. I don't come this way often so this is my first time trying Madis. I am glad there is another coffee shop other than Starbucks. There are other coffee shops around, but they become kind of redundant in what they serve, vibe, and attitudes. I was surprised how spacious it is inside, but the outside seating area is also a nice size. The ordering counter feels a bit cramped, but no big deal. The workers were all friendly, down to earth, and helpful. My daughter and I both ordered cinnamon honey spiced latte, one cold and one hot. It was a really nice drink, right amount of spices, and not too sweet. Since this is near Drexel University there are lot of students so most tables were taken with students studying. First time here. Pretty varied selection of pastries/baked goods. Coffee is roasted in-house and is behind a glass half-wall inside. Plenty of indoor seating, but fills up fast especially for working college students. There is also an outdoor seating area that must be accessed from inside the establishment. Service was good, wasn't super busy when I got there so got my drink quickly but wouldn't say the baristas were super friendly. Iced chai latte was good, I wish the chai was a little stronger but would definitely get again. After tax, a small (16 oz) was $5.02 which is cheaper than Saxbys. Closes at 6pm. Overall, a nice alternative to Starbucks. I had the salmon and cream cheese sandwich with garlic butter and cucumbers. The bread seemed just a tad stale and the taste was a bit "dilly" for me (I don't care for dill!), but it was fine. The salad that came with it had a few corn kernels on top which was nice. Most of the lettuce was fresh but there was a small amount of wilted, blackish leaves. The biscolatte was good but I did not find the advertised graham cracker crumbles. Were they melted into the drink, which would be weird? Or were they forgotten? Strangely, the photo from the restaurant did not show any crumbles either. It's getting a little loud now at 9:38 am but still tolerable. No absorbing materials in the room, as usual for an eating establishment these days. Service was okay. And they gave me flatware for the salad and sandwich but a plastic spoon for the latte. Inconsistent! First time here so don't know if they don't have spoon flatware. read more

I had appalling customer service today. To illustrate a similar story to mine, imagine an art student wanting to paint a portrait with green skin to convey a specific aesthetic. If the teacher intervenes, dictating the student's artistic choices, you'd expect the student to push back. That's what I did when I asked for a simple request: blending ice cubes in my iced coffee. The clerk and manager, Yianni, refused, citing concerns about the drink becoming watery. I assured them I knew the outcome and wanted it exactly that way, and I certainly did NOT want them to substitute frappe -- I just wanted them to use the blender right there at their fingertips. Still, they refused. Their paternalistic attitude was offensive. As a customer, I expect my easily fulfilled requests to be accommodated. It's not about the staff's personal taste, but about respecting my choices. I warned them I'd write a negative review, but they didn't budge. The owner should take note: customers appreciate respect for their preferences. A little empowerment for your staff to say "yes" (when reasonable) would go a long way. Their behavior today was like someone slapping a ketchup bottle out of my hands because THEY hate the taste of it on THEIR food. It's my coffee, not theirs. Let me decide how I want it. Geez! The only reason your review was not 1 star was that the chickpea sandwich was tasty. This place has potential. Don't blow it with crappy customer service. read more
