I had been going here for years without much of an issue. The results were always okay, never really great but safe and no incidents. From the time I started going there my once blonde hair had been highlighted darker and darker. I've actually never seen a blonde in the salon but didn't realize it until after my wreck! I asked to go back to the level of blonde I started out with. My hair was Lucille ball orange, but just a big circle on top. I wouldn't have been so bothered if the colorist hadn't disappeared after she saw it in the shampoo bowl and passed me off to the hair cutter, but it was horrible! They did offer to fix it after I called later that day from home, but the 'repair' the next day was the same. I had to dye my hair darker so I could go on a trip to st Thomas but it has washed out and I look like Ronald McDonald again. I have never had an issue like this before and I've had platinum hair before! Blondes beware, they do not know how to do blonde dye and highlights here obviously read more

Jen is an artist! Friendly, awesome, caring, and did an amazing job. I called for a las minute appointment and spoke with Angel on the phone. I described my situation and told her what I thought I needed, or wanted, and she put me down for an appointment with Jen. After my phone call I felt like I had just made a friend. I get to my appointment, and I go through the experience I had at another salon where I ended up with golden orange hair, inches of roots, and extreme frustration. I was terribly disappointed. Jen *listened* to me, consulted with the photo I had brought in and talked options through with me, got opinions from another colorist, and then we got to work. Through the whole process she explained what she was doing, how it would affect my hair and head, upkeep, and at the end I walked away with the hair I have wanted for 5 months! it was awesome! I felt cared about, listened to, appreciated, and most importantly, I have the color I want. Jen was a life saver and I can't wait to go back. This will be my new salon! read more

This was my first time at Fresh and I could not be more thrilled with my cut! The salon itself is so cute and has a great energy. I especially loved the diversity of the stylists' personal styles. I was taking quite a bit of length off and Cris was very careful in making sure I got what I had been picturing. She also took the time to give me a perfect blowout (which is no easy task with my super thick hair). I will definitely be going back next time! My only advice for first-timers: you can only tip with cash or a check, so make sure to bring some with you. Although they do have an ATM in the salon, you can avoid the (small) withdrawal fee if you plan ahead. read more

This place is awesome! After over a year without a proper haircut, I was ready to chop it all off. Luckily I was able to make an appointment last minute. I was kinda nervous because I hadn't been here before and I have curly hair, which is sometimes hard to style. The man on the phone recommended Kristen saying she is great with curly hair and has curly hair herself, so she will know exactly what to do. The day of my appointment everything went so smoothly. I was offered water while I waited and was seen quickly. I told Kristen what look I was going for and my concerns, and she totally made me feel comfortable. She was so sweet and did an amazing job. For the first 8 months after moving to Charlotte, I continued to drive 1.5 hours each way to see my former hairdresser in fear of not being able to find a great hairdresser in Charlotte. It usually takes a lot of trial and error to find a new stylist and colorist, but not with Tia and Adrena! They are FABULOUS!!!! I cannot give more that 5 stars, but if I could I would give 10. My cut and color is always spot on! I referred my mom to them when my parents moved to the Charlotte area and she is over the moon happy with their services as well. Elisha is awesome. I got tied up at work on a Saturday morning but she was flexible enough to fit me in later on that afternoon. I sat right down when I got there. Elisha was super cool and very attentive to my requests. Being an average dude in a high end salon is kinda intimidating but she made me feel totally comfortable. She's easy to talk to as well... I desperately needed a fresh look, and Tia's skills as a stylist provided it. She listened to what I wanted, had an idea for a new style, and did a wonderful job! I have never had a stylist who put the time & detail into my cut that Tia did. She is a very talented person who clearly loves her job and does great work. I returned to Fresh Salon later that week to get my base color touched up (AKA roots covered) and to get my hair styled for a wedding. Adrena, my new colorist, is awesome! She is truly a haircolor specialist and fresh thinker, just like her business card says. She used a new product on my scalp to keep the color from irritating my skin. I was left with just enough highlights to make the color stunning, and the new, soft brown base color earned lots of compliments. I am so thankful to have found Tia and Adrena at Fresh Salon. I went in this morning, they squeezed me in for an afternoon cut and Tia saved me! I'm new in town and wasn't sure what to think, but the reception was warm and welcoming and atmosphere is modern and clean. My hair was a mess, Tia did a great job on the cut. This past Wednesday was my third visit to Fresh Salon, and I'm pleased to offer what I feel is a completely honest and fair critique of my experiences there. First, I'd like to mention that the front desk staff have always been incredibly receptive and friendly. They have been able to work me in for last minute appointments and have always been very professional. They make a fantastic first impression! The salon itself has a very modern feel to it.. very open with high ceilings and clean lines. The color is bright, blues and greens, and a natural hardwood floor (which is ALWAYS clean, every time I've been there, has been spotless!). There are tons of places to sit, not just up front but also around the shampoo stations. The chairs are very comfortable as well! So overall, the atmosphere there is very light and open, and comfortable! Now, on to the hair! I first visited Fresh back in December of 2010 for a correction of a coloring gone wrong (not done at Fresh, done at another salon near Raleigh). My colorist here was Ehren, and he had some great suggestions for how to save my color and get it to looking more natural and more appropriate for my skin tone. He gave me an all over color with some contrasting highlights (all done at the same time) and the color came out lovely. I felt much more comfortable in this new style! He did mention that the dye he used was semi-permanent, and that I'd know when to come back in when it started to fade. Ehren even took the time to blowdry my hair out (I have natually curly hair, and he was able to straighten it for me so I could actually see how the color looked with my cut). I also must say, for both a complete color and styling, the price was outstanding. My overall experience was very pleasant. My only gripe about this visit was not anything that happened while I was there, but the night after I got my color done, my scalp was incredibly itchy. And I discovered that there was a lot of dye still on my scalp, which I believe caused most of the irritation. After a few washes, the dye finally came off my scalp and the itchiness went away. I'll admit, I've had my hair dyed many times and this was the first time I'd ever had this reaction. But it was also the first time anyone has ever used semi-permanent dye, so perhaps I am just sensitive to that formulation. This past Tuesday, I visited Fresh again, this time for a cut. My stylist was Anthony, whom I had never met before. He immediately made me feel at ease and was very friendly and easy to converse with. When he asked what I wanted done, I told him I was looking for something a bit new, and that I had kinda had the same style for a while. I have long, dark, thick curly hair-- and for the last several years, I've basically been told that one of the only styles I could safely do was long layers. Anthony said he didn't agree with that and was willing to prove that there was more that could be done with my hair. This was my first cut since November, so my hair was pretty long. By the time he was done, my hair was considerably shorter, cut to the clavicle, and much lighter in weight. I was thrilled with the results. I would love to have Anthony do my cuts again-- I've gotten so many compliments on my new cut, and my experience was nothing but pleasant with him! The very next day, I was scheduled for another color with Ehren. I have to separate my color and cuts otherwise I'd be in the salon for hours! By this point, my color had faded (as I had expected with the semi-permanent dye) and had grown out, and I was desperate to have my grays covered and get darkened back up. Ehren did exactly that. I also expressed to him my experience the previous time with the itchy scalp and asked if he wouldn't mind to give a more thorough shampoo this time. The end product of this experience was a beautiful, rich shade of chocolate brown with a hint of red.. with no trace of my previous highlights (which was exactly what I wanted). I truly believe Ehren is an incredible talent, and I will absolutely continue seeing him for future colorings as long as I am in the Charlotte area. It's now several days later, and I must say, the itchy scalp feeling was not as bad (thanks to a better shampoo) but I still did have a considerable amount of dye still on my scalp (the only reason I know this is because I could see it under my nails when I itched). When I washed my hair today, the itchiness did subside. I scrubbed my scalp pretty thoroughly. However, upon towel drying my hair, I discovered that my hair turned my white towel orange! Also, the tips of my fingers and fingernails were orange as well, but this came out after a few washes in the sink. The color is still in my hair, so it's not as if the color is simply washing out. But after a thorough shampoo and rinse, I did not expect this. If this is the nature of semi-permanent dyes, I just wish I had been warned! Overall, very pleased with Fresh! Just ask for a thorough shampoo :) read more

I have been going to Fresh salon for a while now and my wonderful stylist is Dustin. I have never had a better haircut and style than from him. I have extremely curly hair and he has been the only person to cut it with perfection and makes it to where I love to wear it down. If we ever have even the smallest thing to change with volume, etc., we communicate about it and it's fixed. The products for curly hair are also fabulous, leaving my hair free of fuzz, soft, and bouncy without being crunchy. Wonderful staff with always friendly greetings at the front desk. Without fail there are offerings of water, soda, wine, tea, etc. while waiting for appointment to start. Love it! Would suggest anyone to Fresh! read more

Most uncomfortable haircut of my life! Hair cuts aren't suppose to hurt! The stylist (Jennifer, I think) used a technique I've never experienced where she added piece-y layers by taking small sections of hair, and twirling it and then cutting that by pulling the scissors down and through.... Also, she didn't seem to understand my hair at all - she said I have some nice curl and asked if I'd ever diffused it... I have thick, straight hair (as noted by every other stylist I've even gone to) that will not hold a curl even when I try to make it, so I have no idea what she was talking about! She blow dried it with a circular brush to curl it, so I didn't notice right away that my hair didn't look the way I wanted it to. I went back to get her to at least fix my side bangs, which she did with some attitude and after much direction. read more

I've been going to Fresh Salon since they opened & have been going to Julia, the owner, for years & years! She is the ONLY person that I let touch my hair! She cuts & colors my hair and it's always AMAZING! She is fantastic and she & her amazing staff have made Fresh Salon the perfect place to get your hair done! Everyone there has a great attitude, they're fun, and it's just an all around great atmosphere! I recommend Fresh to all of my friends & even people I don't know that may be looking for a place to go! Kaleena the manager, is as good as they come, and Angel, "my little fav" is just fantastic! I have been going to my stylist, Lisa before she came to Fresh Salon and she is great. I have long hair and she colors it for me. I like to change a lot though remaining in the red family and she always does a great job. Would not want to go anywhere else. Everyone in the salon is friendly and welcoming.
