Came her for dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday. It was recommended by our innkeeper. We wanted seafood and something more upscale from the places directly near the b&b we were staying in. We had a 7pm reservation. We were seated quickly, asked what drinks we wanted immediately after being handed the menus, so we asked for water. 20 min later our drink order was taken just as the waitress ran off. Could not catch her attention to come back and take our food order. Another 20 min later, drinks were delivered. They were good, but we were starving! The waitress finally came back to take our food order. By 8:15 our appetizer finally arrived. We had ordered the mussels which were ok. We had ordered them from a more casual place the night before for almost 2x the mussels and half the price! (Remember, we were STARVING) and they were still underwhelming. Who puts navy beans in mussels? Our entrees finally arrived after 8:30. Flavorless and completely forgettable. Will not return. Will not let people we know go. Not worth the $$$. Would rather go to the casual restaurants for better portions and better tasting food any day! read more

The Cobb salad "was supposed" to come with lettuce, cucumbers, corn, tomatoes, roasted chickpeas, pickled red onions, bacon, and chicken. I ordered the Cobb salad with no chicken and no bacon and I substituted salmon. The waiter told me there would be a small up charge to substitute salmon for the chicken/bacon. MY salad showed up with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, salmon and avocado. NO roasted chickpeas and No pickled onions. When I told the waiter my salad was missing the roasted chickpeas and the pickled red onions, he apologized and went to the kitchen to get them. The waiter came back empty handed and told me the reason I was missing the roasted chickpeas, and the pickled onions was because they were out of them. Sad day! They offered no solution, no substitution, maybe some raw onions, maybe some cheese? Something? Oh but the up charge remained. Come on.......those 2 items are why I ordered the salad in the first place. That was a big part of the salad right? I feel that the waiter should've told me about the missing ingredients to the salad so I could've made the decision and perhaps chosen something else. Very boring dinner for me. The lemon drop martini was also very weak. but the savignon blanc was amazing! I'd probably go back but I'd order something else. read more

Then we ordered a different appetizer. It was put in wrong. The main course was tasty, but the description was wrong. Definitely was not worth the price. we also had fresh oysters. They were pretty good, but again way overpriced. The place was in a marina at a resort. I guess they're trying real hard to pay that rent! For two people with no drinks, because we don't drink the bill was still $180! I don't mind paying for good food, but this place falls far short of the expectation. My partner and I had an amazing time here. Evening reservation and they gave us an outdoor table when I asked upon arrival. We had a fantastic seat right next to the marina looking out at the boats and water. Our food was really great and our waitress was friendly and on good timing. Great drinks as well. The plexiglass by the bar was annoying and quite silly actually but we didn't let that bother us. We sat in the main dining room for dinner and it was very good. The fish was so fresh!! After dinner we sat outside by the fire and had dessert. Highly recommend coming here if you're staying on property. read more

We had three rooms at this hotel for our wedding night, and ate at the restaurant this morning. The hotel and spa are gorgeous!! We will be back for those. The 1 cocktail I had delivered to the room in the evening (cosmo) tasted like pure vodka. I'd stick to wine if I were there again... Our brunch was extremely disappointing. We might have overlooked the obscenely priced chicken and waffles (36.95 !) that 3 people ordered if our waitress was remotely pleasant or attentive. She barely spoke. We had to ask for coffee and she seemed irritated when 1.5 hours into the meal when I asked for a refill. The meal was $250 for brunch for 6 people... No alcohol, and 2 of us just had salads because the menu seemed like a random assortment of dinner leftovers, not a planned holiday brunch menu at all. No eggs, (unless you wanted pulled pork with eggs Benedict). No fruit or yogurt... We paid more for this disappointing brunch than we did for dinner and drinks the night before at a gorgeous local farm to table restaurant. The next time we stay at this beautiful resort, we will likely dine elsewhere. read more

The service was top notch and our server even discounted some of our drinks. The prices were a bit high but that was to be expected from the quality of food and selection of seafood. read more

I had a witches brew martini which was sparkly (literally) and a lovely muddle of blackberry Tito's. I also tried the pumpkin martini which was not as sweet as I expected and not as pumpkiny either. I had a butternut squash goat cheese panini that was fantastic. My husband had a burger, and our daughter a lobster roll all come with house chips (potato chips) in small bags unless you upgrade to French fries. Not much to say other than it's expensive and the food is average. Portions can be really small. And if you think you are getting fries with your $23 Fresh Salt burger, think again. The view is a marina. The help is hit or miss. I go there fairly often because a friend likes it or I wouldn't bother. It just feels like the place is going through the motions. Details are so important. I've eaten here a bunch of times. The food is always good. The atmosphere is maybe the best in Old Saybrook. Yet I come away from this last visit concerned about name tags. Yes, you heard me, name tags. There is nothing that says "I don't think you'll succeed" to an employee like a dry-erase name tag. "Here's a tag we took from the last person that left and here's a marker, put your name on it." For a place of this caliber, and believe me everything else is very high quality, each name tag should be engraved. Want to really check someone out? Find Darcy and look at her name tag. Here's an employee that says "I don't care what my employer thinks, I like working here but refuse to look sloppy." What's she do? She goes out, finds appropriate looking lettering, and creates the most professional looking name tag in the place. Good for you Darcy! End of Rant. My whole family and daughter's fiancé and his family met here for Easter Brunch on April 9th, 2023. From start to finish we could not have had a better visit. We had requested a private room for 10 and the Fireside room was so cozy and lovely. The food buffet had such an enormous selection of choices that everyone was very satisfied. Everything was delicious from the custom omelettes to the carved ham and beef. There was a separate room just for all the desserts. Our servers were very pleasant and attentive and we could not have had a better experience. We had been here recently for a birthday celebration and that event was also perfect. We highly recommend this for wonderful food, atmosphere and service. 10/10! read more

We had lunch and cocktails with the fabulous bartender Peter this afternoon. Since the moment we walked in Peter was outstanding, he recommended specials and amazing cocktails which we enjoyed. We started with the Jumbo shrimp appetizer and I mean" JUMBO"!!! Amazing with flavor and freshness! We had an Irish coffee with whip cream yummy!!! Next we had the pokebowl delicious and fresh sushi!!! I loved the fresh salmon. Seafood Platter amazing satisfying all of our cravings ..... "Peter's Bartendering / knowledge and abilities did not stop with 'Mixology' - rather his knowledge of wines and his obvious delight in sharing his mixology which added to the pleasure of an already delightful meal"... Very impressed ! Stumbled onto this restaurant during a Sunday drive down to the shore . My wife and I noticed that they were open serving outdoors. We were seated right away. All social distancing was being observed and all staff were wearing masks. We ordered our drinks, appetizers and meals from our waiter Dan . He was excellent in all aspects couldn't have asked for a better waiter . The entire meal was delicious. All the food was hot and fresh . The whole experience was wonderful quite the find . Several in our party including myself so disappointed that the autumn salad has been removed....understand it has butternut squash in it that is more reflective of Fall to some, we found it to be one of the banner entrees with fish at Fresh Salt. A day out with the girls is not complete without lunch....and a cocktail! Fortunately it was a weekday in May, so there was plenty of parking available. I've had to skip this location due to it being too busy in the past. Note...this restaurant is located inside the Saybrook Point Inn, so it can get packed due to vacationers, weddings and other events. We arrived and the restaurant wasn't too packed. Unfortunately the outdoor patio wasn't open, but we understand since it was one of the first nice days of the season. We were seated at what I believe to be one of the smallest tables I've seen at a restaurant. A little unfortunate, as I just feel uncomfortable at a tiny table, but that's really my only complaint. Since it was early in the day, we went light...a couple of refreshing (and pretty I might add;)) aperol spritz, 4 jumbo shrimp cocktail, the baked ricotta cheese, and the kale salad. The shrimp were crisp and fresh and the cocktail sauce tasty. It's hard to go wrong with ricotta cheese, but when it's baked....unreal! Absolutely delicious and served with bread toasts. The Kale was a perfect way yo complete our shared lunch. The roasted beets and goat cheese tossed with a light balsamic dressing, complimented the kale perfectly. I tried to go there with my husband over the weekend, but the place was packed. Next time I'm in the mood for a nice meal and drinks overlooking the LI Sound, I'll be sure to make a reservation, because I will definitely be back. read more

We enjoy Old Saybrook and we've stayed at the Inn on several occasions but we keep on giving this place a try and we seem to always be degrees of disappointed. The atmosphere is okay but can feel very cramped when busy. The food is okay at best as well as the service. In contrast the menu can be pricey, which would be okay if the food was better. It's really unfortunate because it's a great location. read more

Chicken avocado wrap came without avocado, and when asked for avocado it came back just shoved into the same wrap which was at that point cold. Tuna poke bowl was alright. Service (3/10): The staff was very kind and respectful. With that being said, the service was very slow, the water was rarely refilled, and I had to actively find our waiter and ask for the check as we were sitting for over 15 minutes after finishing the dinner. Ambiance (9/10): The restaurant has beautiful views of a yacht filled marina and nice landscaping. If I return again it will be for the great ocean views. read more

Stayed at the hotel and just dropped in. Beautiful view over the harbor. The PEO mussels were wonderful with the corn chowder accompaniment. The steak was a hit with me as well as the swordfish for another of the party. There was a wedding going on which slowed service. But they more than made up with humor and free-flowing bar. For a place like this the service could have been better- had to ask for napkins and silverware and the young girls at the desk don't seem to have it all together but all in all I'll go back to enjoy the nice place. So why the three star? Service was really sub par. When all you need to do is make sure your coffee mug is full, you have water and you have a drink if you so choose it shouldn't be hard. Couldn't get another drink when we wanted one, coffee was not refilled and I never had my water filled. For the price, I would have expected more. We ordered Several appetizers. The kitchen split the portions with out us asking, impressive. The Cioppino was loaded with fresh seafood. The steak and broccoli rabe was cooked perfectly. Their cocktail offerings featured many well made options from a standard Woodford Manhattan to a seasonal pumpkin spice or apple caramel martini. The food journey began with glorious Fresh Salt Sushi Tuna Triangles. They were fresh, elegant yet simple and packed with flavor. Don't miss out on Baked Liuzzi's Ricotta Cheese, which is a light appetizer to ease into a full meal. Finally Mrs Tags Meatballs shouldn't be left out of the party, they provided balance and heartiness to our appetizer selections. The Grilled North Atlantic Salmon Filet was prepared well and offered with a beautiful lentil side. Lastly I can say with honesty that the Cast Iron Seared Pork Chop was the best pork dish I have ever had. It was the most tender and flavor packed pork chop I have eaten. Not only that but but the pairings of bacon, sweet corn and a Cognac Cream Demi-Glacé were delicious. Anytime is the right time to give Fresh Salt a try. read more

We've had a number of poor experiences at this place and have reached a point that we won't be back, despite the great location. We dined outside for a family celebration. My mother ordered a 6 oz glass of wine and I ordered a 9 oz. When the wine arrived, it looked like we had the exact amount of wine in our glasses. Instead of correcting the issue and apologizing, the waitress come over to our table and threw two carafes down, rudely exclaiming "everything is measured." She encouraged me to stand up to get a better view of what was in my glass. Of course, when I poured the wine from each glass into the carafes, it turned out to be the same amount! The manager came over and said she'd "comp our wine" due to the issue, but of course didn't do so. I have never been treated with such disrespect at a restaurant. I spoke to the General Manager via phone the following day - while he apologized, he offered nothing to make the situation right. read more

Sitting outside here in the evening is marvelous. They have made it very special. The food is fairly good but dinner is expensive, perhaps too expensive- lunch menu seemed more reasonably priced. I had the mussels (spicy!) and the fish and chips- fish was cooked perfectly- but it was served with potato chips instead of fries which was .... confusing. Best part here was certainly the view, and afterwards you can walk over to the mini golf the other side of the car park if that floats your boat. read more
