Pro tip: ask for the hot sauce caddy and don't skip the green sauce--it's incredible and honestly belongs on everything. I ordered a pork dish for lunch and was blown away by both the flavor and the portion size (come hungry!). The vibe is just as good as the food--beautiful Frida-inspired artwork throughout and plenty of fun, picture-perfect spots if you're in the mood for a selfie. Cute restaurant though surprisingly very quiet on a Tuesday evening. Very extensive menu and really reasonable prices. We ordered queso with chorizo and some drinks. The queso came out at room temperature and asked for it to be heated through again. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and asked for half green and half red sauce, and that also came out at room temperature too. I really like my food piping hot so it was disappointing as the rest of the food was not very warm at all. The chicken was okay, at times a bit dry. I prefer red sauce normally and it was my favorite sauce of the two. Had a few drinks and the strawberry margarita was my favorite! I think I've easily become a foodie via my children. My oldest daughter and one of her girlfriends came to Frida's for the friend's birthday dinner and LOVED it. While visiting on Sunday, we stopped by to grab food to go. The hostess was super friendly. The music was jumping. The aroma of the yummy goodness smacks you in the face! I have been wanting to try this place ever since I first saw them working on the building. It used to be a full service Pizza Hut but they did one heck of a job with the renovations! It's absolutely gorgeous inside! I haven't had everything on their menu yet but everything I saw coming out looked delicious! I ordered the authentic tacos plate so there were three. I got the Barbacoa tacos and boy were they good! The waiter informed me that they only had goat Barbacoa and asked if that was OK. I said "sure!" Anyway, they were very large tacos and absolutely delicious! They put lots of meat in them and the Barbacoa was very flavorful! This is a nice restaurant with plenty of shared parking in the parking lot. It's decorated really nicely very dark with day of the dead type of decor with a little bit of light with butterflies on the walls. The staff are friendly. (10/10/25) My wife wanted to try Frida's tonight. They've gone all out for Halloween. The ambiance is cozy and fun. Our servers are Javier & Alex. Alex is in training. We're starting out with guacamole and chips and a mild salsa. My wife ordered a chicken burrito. I'm having the langostinos. The menu looks amazing. I'm seeing a lot of dishes that are new & different. Their selection of tequila is extensive as well. My wife ate three bites of her meal & took the rest home. The langostinos were delicious. I ate everything on the platter. The garlic sauce was amazing too. For dessert I ordered Tres Leches cake. It was the perfect ending to the meal. I even ate the mint garnish. My son and his girlfriend checked out this new place, and thought we'd like it...so my husband and I went on a Saturday night. We got there around 5 pm, and were seated right away. We ended up with this hightop table, but it had comfy chairs. The place itself was small, but very nicely decorated...somewhat goth with its black-on-black decor, though filled with colorful artworks of Frida and such. I loved the ambiance here! The menu was fairly extensive, and rather unique in a way. I ended up getting the Tacos (Barbocoa?), with a side order of Mexican Rice...and my husband got the Chicken Enchiladas Verde. Well, my tacos were very good...though I felt it could have been even better if there was some corn included in the tacos, or as a side with the dish. The rice was just O-Kay. I was actually more impressed with what my husband ordered. My husband thought their Nachos were possibly the best he's had in a while. Also, I had "La Nina" (or something like that...AKA Pina Colada), and it was O-Kay (slightly too watery). The wait service started out good, but our waiter got sidetracked at the bar...and it was hard to get his attention near the end. I was hoping he'd hurry back to check on us by the end of the meal so we could order dessert, but it just took way too long...think we waited at least 10 minutes after we finished eating? By then, we just decided to leave. This was a big bummer...because by looks of things, the desserts might have been the best part of the meal? Definitely lost a star due to such delay. Overall, we both thought the foods were solid. I'd even go out to say it's probably one of, if not the best Mexican food we've had in this part of Charlotte (Pineville-Matthews Road area) in a long time. I think they should have a dedicated bartender, so the waiters can focus more on their tables. I strongly advise African American customers to avoid this location. My family and I experienced blatant discrimination during our visit. Read the review poor review on Google and Yelp First, our food came out cold with raw meat on the nachos...a serious health risk. When I politely informed the manager, he argued with me instead of correcting the problem. After I canceled our order, the situation escalated dangerously. The MANAGER followed me and my two young children out to our car, accompanied by two employees, and began berating me in front of my kids. He has no professional experience as manager acts very hostile and aggressive. BEWARE!!! He will try to be combative. It is unacceptable to be harassed for complaining about unsafe food. I also noticed discrepancies in how we were treated regarding portions (a spoonful of guacamole) and charges compared to other customers. Do not support a business that treats paying customers this way. I am filing a complaint with Attorney General's Office, BBB, and NAACP. Read the response for the management which takes no accountability of poor food hygiene and lack of professionalism. Most important, see photo where is continued sending harassing message to "Get a life and find something to do". They never offered to replace the food. The OWNER/MANAGER told us we were fired for complaining. These people lack the hospitality to run a business and if you complain they will intimidate you or call the police. Beware!!! The service was top notch and our waiter was helpful and made suggestions and was able to answer our questions regarding menu items and drinks. We had the pescado frito and carne asada. Pescado frito was a large snapper. It was very well fries, a little dry but overall good 4/5. The carne asada was tender and well seasoned 5/5. Their margaritas are house made fresh juices so def better than your typical bar drink. We had mango margarita 5/5 and the dragonfruit 4/5. I do not chunks of tomato in any Salsa so the portion of the Salsa I ate to was just very thin with barely any taste. My wife had the Arroz Con Pollo. I was amazed at the amount of Flavor in the Chicken. The Rice, Poblano Peppers and Onions made this dish definitely one to try. I had Enchiladas Friday. Usually the shredded chicken in this dish is somewhat dry, but this wasn't. I had the Red and Green Sauces. The Red had an immense amount of Flavor and the Green had THE HEAT. The Beans were smooth and creamy. The Mexican Rice had plenty of flavor. When I used my fork to separate the rice, steam came out. As you can see, the plate presentation on this entree was very appealing. For dessert we ordered the Tres Leches. Needless to say, we loved it and enjoyed. Oh my goodness they have the absolute best Arroz con Pollo I have ever had in my life because it includes chicken, cheese, onions, AND green peppers. Most places only do a few of those items, but I love that Frida's takes it to the next level including all of them. I absolutely ADORE the aesthetic that Frida's has and the entire restaurant has little quirky tributes all over the place. I spent a majority of my time taking it all in and enjoying the decorum. Our waiter was all right, but I would have liked to have him visit us more. The drinks are also a bit expensive for what you're getting since Monterrey is right around the corner from Frida's and you can get very similar food with much cheaper drinks. read more

Our group of 6 ladies dined at Frida's to celebrate a birthday. I was nervous to make this recommendation as we all have high standards for Mexican food. Though the scallops were so mini and included only maybe 3, so I would suggest just not to include. The eye-opener on the table was the red snapper. HUGE portion (whole fish) and my friend raved over the taste along with their made in-house sauce. Great value for $22! Other favorites were the enchiladas and the carne asada. Drinks: While super fresh (no artificial mixers), they did short us all on the booze. We mostly ordered margaritas and Palomas. Service: Very attentive, friendly, and never felt rushed even when we asked a lot of questions. We had a delay in one entrée, but they continued to check in and it felt like everyone on staff joined forces where needed. Since we were there celebrating a birthday, the server said they had something special for our guest of honor, which turned out to be a charro cart. OMG DELICIOUS! Maybe the most memorable thing of the night. However, we were shocked to see the $25 charge for this charro cart on our bill. First off, we didn't ask for this specifically. Second, it included maybe 5-6 churros and dipping sauce. How was this the most expensive thing on the menu??? But not on the menu... My husband heard about this spot on IG and we were in the mood for Mexican so we thought we would try it out. I had no idea such a place existed on Pineville-Matthews Rd. It's a small spot so we had to sit at the bar which turned out to be pretty cool. The bartenders were fun and engaging. The decor made us feel like we were at one of our favorite resorts in Cancun. We started with chips and salsa. The chips were very fresh. My husband had an Old Fashioned and we learned it was made with mezcal so that was surprising. I started with the prickly pear margarita and it was good, too. For dinner, we thoroughly enjoyed shrimp quesadillas (me) and a chicken burrito (hubby). The shrimp were abundant and a great size. The quesadillas come with a small side salad that had avocado. I added a side of Mexican rice and it was extremely flavorable. I would highly recommend it. We both had a second drink. First time trying out Frida's. We came on a weekday evening but it was till pretty busy. It's a small space inside so we joined the waitlist and went and sat in the car until our booth was ready. Not long after being sat our waiter introduced himself and gave us time to look over the menu. The complimentary chips and salsa were great. For starters I tried the prickly pear margarita. It was presented cute but it was super watered down. Wasn't a fan of the drink. For dinner I had the enchiladas. On my very first bite there was a small chicken bone that I crunched down on. I told the server and he was apologetic and said that he would inform the kitchen to do a better job when pulling chicken. Thankfully, I cautiously ate the rest of my food and no other bones were detected. The enchiladas had some definite spice to them but were very good. For dessert we got an order of churros. They were cold. Our server became busy and didn't really come back to the table so I didn't bother with sending them back. As of this review, they are still training new servers and the service was on the slow side. Pro tip: don't come if you're in a rush. Frida's is meant to be savored and enjoyed. Also note: dogs are welcome but there is no gate onto the patio so you'll have to lift them over the fence (they don't allow them through the restaurant. The food! Oh the food. I had the arroz con pollo and was in heaven. It's pure comfort food with grilled peppers, onions, and chicken served over rice and smothered in queso. My friend ordered the enchiladas with red sauce. I've never had a red sauce likes this; it had a fantastic spice (cinnamon or nutmeg) that complicated the flavor in a tasty way. We ordered the standard order of churros and tres leches cake for dessert, but the skull cheesecake and the churro cart are showstoppers and are perfect for three or more. The cocktail game here is fire. Sadly, I cannot recall the name of the drink I ordered, but I was savoring every last flavor packed sip. The fresh mint was the star of the drink. wow!! I was blown away with the food and overall experience here! My foodie friend I decided to try this place out. It is a new establishment and family owned! I started with the shrimp empanadas. The best empanadas I've ever had! The shrimp was flavorful. Good and flaky on the outside. The cheese pull was amazing. The tacos were very good with an amazing cilantro dipping sauce. The fish had wonderful flavor and the most juicy fish that I've had at a restaurant. The Churros were so good with crunch on the outside and warm and gooey on the inside with three dipping sauces. The service was awesome with friendly staff and fast service.
