Rating: 3.5/5 This used to be my go-to spot. The owner is extremely friendly, and they've always had a wide variety of unique, delicious flavors -- especially the mochi donuts. But unfortunately, the last few visits have been disappointing. We've driven in from Aliso Viejo multiple times, only to find that they're either low on selection or don't have the flavors we came for -- no matter what time we show up (6 a.m., noon, 4 p.m., even 7 p.m.). It's frustrating when you try calling ahead and the answer is consistently "I don't know." This morning might be our last visit for a while. We came shortly after 6 a.m. -- no mochi donuts were ready yet, and only a few regular ones were out. The woman working the counter didn't seem very friendly or helpful. My husband asked when the mochi would be ready and she said "I don't know." Only after we asked her to check did we get an answer -- "a few minutes," but still not the flavors we wanted. The customer service has been hit or miss lately, mostly a miss. The woman we usually encounter seems disengaged and hard to communicate with. We also noticed some quirks at the register -- if you pay cash, you get a discount, but they don't seem comfortable making small change or doing basic math. For example: offering $0.20 to round out your change and get a dollar back is met with silence and ignored. They don't offer a baker's dozen deal like other shops, and their prices are slightly higher than average. Bottom line: I used to love this place, but it's no longer worth the drive for us. The inconsistent availability, lack of communication, and lukewarm customer service have made it hard to keep coming back. read more

This February donut is delicious! The cream inside is nice and light, reminds me of their French vanilla cream donut, but strawberry the dark chocolate is also very good. I always love fresh fruit with my desserts too so the strawberry on top was a bonus I love this little shop, and all the updates/renovations over the last couple of years. read more

The donuts are pretty but not as great tasting. coffee dossant (~$5) had decent crispiness from the croissant layers. just felt like it was sitting there for a long time and wish it was a bit more fresh. strawberry shortcake donut (~$5) was like diabetes in a bite bc this was SO overly sweet that we couldn't even finish it. it also didn't even really taste much like strawberry. white chocolate guava mochi donut (~$3) was also a bit disappointing bc i couldn't taste white chocolate OR guava. texture of the mochi was mediocre. overall wouldn't come back just bc i expected way better donuts for how they look + the prices don't live up to the quality. read more

Absolutely amazing donuts! After I landed in SoCal I wanted a tasty dessert. I noticed Friendly Donuts was open until midnight so we went there. My husband got the cream donut and I got the Dubai pistachio donut. When we got to our hotel it was pure bliss. These donuts are literally the best I've eaten. They are incredibly fresh and full of flavor. Both are excellent but the Dubai donut took the cake. It had that crunchy pistachio center that mimics that viral chocolate bar. This place is highly underrated! Their service is exceptional as they are fully staffed and help you out as soon as you walk in. Pros: They have a huge selection of donuts, including fritters, muffins, croissants, regular donuts, specialty ones etc. they also have a number of vegan donuts and gluten-free treats. Their drink selection is cool too as they have different flavored Matcha teas and coffees and even vegan hot chocolate! Cons: the shop is really small and is located in not the greatest part of town. Parking is difficult as there's one way lanes and tight spots to get into. However, there is a grocery store nearby that we parked and walked. The prices aren't too bad. We got a total of eight specialty donuts for around $36 and that was also including Vegan specialty. I think next time we will for sure try their drinks, I saw they had a strawberry Matcha latte and other good flavors! Friendly Donuts doesn't have a website just a Instagram and Facebook page so definitely check them out, you won't be disappointed. read more

Wow, the selection of donuts here is amazing!! They carry all the usual suspects here but they also offer a huge selection of really exotic flavors as well. I LOVE a good apple fritter and when my son pointed out the guava fritter, I most definitely had to try that one. It was actually guava and apple and it was so satisfying... crisp crunchy outside with fluffy inside. The guava flavor was light and if I didn't know it was a guava fritter, I would have thought it was a really tasty apple fritter. My husband got the blueberry cake and my son got the chocolate glazed... both really enjoyed their selections. They have a Dubai chocolate donut (?) which is made with baklava dough and has chocolate and pistachio... I will be trying that next time! The shop itself is small but cute... it's mostly kitchen where they make all these lovely treats. They serve some drinks here as well but we were just here for some post dinner donuts. I stopped by on a random week night and parking was easily available in their private parking lot. I ordered the Seasonal Thai Tea Croissant Wheel, Pink Guava Mochi Donut, and Crème Brûlée donut. Everything was absolutely delicious and so well flavored. I especially loved the Thai Tea Croissant Wheel and the Pink Guava Mochi Donut. The flavors didn't taste artificial.
