The service, french fries, and views from the patio were great, but I will never visit this restaurant again because of the ridiculous price I was charged. A beautiful spot. They are part of a nice complex with a dinner restaurant (1828 Bistro), small market and the cafe on the wharf. We should have called ahead regarding wheelchair accessibility as we made the mistake of parking in the upper lot and the path down to the wharf was steep, covered in shells and had a few steps at the bottom. There is a parking lot down the hill with handicapped accessible spots and a ramp to access the seating area of Frisbee's Wharf. If there had been a sign directing people with mobility issues to go on the other side of the Bistro building we could have avoided an inconvenient trip to enjoy the view and a very good lunch. The lobster dinner, clam strips, fish and chips, lobster roll were all very good. Fries were crispy and the chowder was delicious but somewhat cold. The young man who waited on us was pleasant and offered his help with getting down the steps. It is puzzling to me that a complex could have provided curb cuts, parking spaces, roomy bathrooms, and a ramp to the main building but overlooked accessibility to the other area. The shells are a nice touch for ambiance but present a terrible problem for anyone with mobility issues (older people, people recovering from injuries, etc) It appeared that the person in charge visited many other diners asking about their meals but did not greet us at all. We would go again but it would have been great to have felt welcomed and that they cared. Some of these issues could very easily be rectified. They could simply put in a solid surface for a few tables near the ramp from the lower lot to provide better access for anyone who may need it. read more

Finally got to have a meal here a couple weeks ago after not being able to get service when we visited last year. We had seen a segment on the Pepperell Cove complex on TV's Phantom Gourmet and were looking forward to eating there since the view was allegedly spectacular and the lobster rolls were ENORMOUS, as were the portion of fries that came with several of the dishes they showed. We ate at Frisbee Wharf and it was not worth the hassle. The parking lot is very small but we were lucky enough to get a spot there (we arrived a little before 1 PM). We did not have a reservation (didn't realize we needed one for lunch) so even though there were six vacant tables we were told we'd have to wait. OK, so we hung around - the view is nice but since most of the seats are inside a large tent unless you are seated/standing close to the water or out on the wharf there's not much of a view due to all the tables and people in front of you. So we got seated after ~20 minutes and ordered a seafood chowder to share, a lobster roll (comes with fries) and fish 'n chips. The chowder was filled with lots of bits of seafood but the smoked bacon taste was VERY strong - I would say overpowering. So while the chowder was thick with ingredients, the bacon flavor really did a disservice to the chowder. My wife really liked her fish 'n chips and I tried a piece of the fish - it was very light and nicely battered and overall a very nice choice, even for someone like me who isn't a big fan of fish 'n chips. The lobster roll was a good portion of lobster meat (although nowhere near a heaping of lobster meat as there was in the Phantom Gourmet segment) and had a very strong lemon base in the mayo. I saw "fresh lemon" in the menu description of the lobster roll but I was taken aback by how overpowering (yes, there's that word again) the lemon was. And the fries? I distinctly remember in the Phantom Gourmet segment the Pepperell Cove rep (owner?) was talking about Frisbee Wharf and showing off all the food and she mentioned that the fries are "the best French fries in the world" - only problem is they are not. They're not bad fries but they have that coating on them that supposedly makes them crunchy but to me they are just generic frozen fries - not sure why they can't be bothered to make fresh hand-cut fries. Also, their serving of fries that came with our meals wasn't impressive at all (see pics) - when you can see the bottom of the plate when your order arrives, there's not a lot of fries in your order! We were hungry after our drive up from Boston and neither one of us finished our fries. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive and the food was served in a decent amount of time but overall we were disappointed in our experience at Frisbee Wharf and I doubt we would go back. We have always enjoyed Robert's Maine Grill in Kittery and there's no reason I wouldn't recommend them over Frisbee Wharf as they are easier to get to when driving up 95N into Maine and the food is way better IMHO. Would like to give Frisbee Wharf two stars for this review but the staff we interacted with were very pleasant so I bumped the review up to three stars. read more

First of all the food was amazing, I had the fish sandwich which was the best I've ever had. Others at my table had fish and chips, chicken tenders, and poke bowl. They all enjoyed their meals as well! The view of the water was amazing and it was a great atmosphere. The service was great too. Overall couldn't complain at all about this restaurant! I'll give this 4 stars for the service was excellent and the view was beautiful. It's coastal Maine and it takes advantage of that beauty and its location! There were 5 meals ordered-the fried clam dinner, fish and chips, fried fish sandwich, kids hotdog and the salad with lobster. All were delicious and served quickly! The 3 stars is for the overall seating -it's folding chairs and really rocky tables. Kind of uncomfortable for dining. It does take away from eating a good meal:(. And we all loved our dishes-but a better selection of salads would improve things a bit here. The salad was good but pretty basic. For the cost-should be a step up. I think they are limited on offerings due to the kitchen size but overall a good menu and would recommend! Lastly,would love bread or crackers offered while waiting for meal. read more

The service and food ruined what started off as a lovely Sunday evening for our family of 6. Our appetizers arrived timely, but our entree order never made it to the kitchen - instead, we were handed the bill and thanked for coming. We politely reminded our server about our entrees, water, and napkin order. Nearly 1.5 hours later, our $200 check arrived along fish entrees that were cold, bland, and soggy. We didn't complain since it wouldn't have made a difference - our server was unapologetic and we were wasting her time. Had it not been for our four starving kids, we would have vacated Frisbee's and gone to BG's Oysters in Rye. Maybe the view at BG's isn't as lovely, but the experience would be more pleasant and hospitable, where water and napkins are standard issue. read more

Had a great dinner there on Saturday night. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much because of the reviews I saw regarding service. But we had a 6:45 reservation, were greeted warmly, seated promptly and enjoyed the beautiful location. Our server told us of the time limit but in no way did we feel rushed. This place is a gem. We came around 1:45 on a Weds afternoon and were not expecting a wait, but sure enough, one hour. We had our kids and we were frustrated after the 20min ride south from the beach. We explored getting takeout, just to sit on a bench in the shade somewhere and the bartender suggested we just sit under the tent up near the road where just the hostess was cross-checking names vs reservations to save walk-ins the short walk down to the dining area. I had been looking forward to sitting on the wharf. Lunch, 'with a view', was our goal when we set out. As soon as we sat down though, a little breeze kicked in, and we had our ice cold drinks courtesy of their very friendly bartender and we were very comfortable. She even offered to run our food up to us, since the bar was slow that afternoon. Food showed up neatly packed, in entirely green materials. My wife ordered the lazy lobster, myself the fish and chips. My oldest got the chicken/bacon wrap and the twins had the chicken tenders. We shared the zucchini starter. All were magnificent. The batter coating on the fish and zucchini were the best of the trip. The lobster was as it should be. Even the ranch, condiment, was home made (hint of chive?). It quickly became apparent, why there were no walk-ins at 2pm on a weekday. This place knows what it's doing. Well worth the 30min ride from the hotel and plenty of variety on the menu to scratch any itch, even if all you're looking for is an elevated clam shack. read more

My wife and I were heading to Portland for a few days last Thursday. I had seen a glowing review of this restaurant on TV's Phantom Gourmet and mentioned it to my wife so we decided to check it out (we usually stop at Robert's in Kittery for lunch on our way to Portland). So we get there at 12:30 p.m. and park the car (the lot was almost 100% full) and head inside the restaurant on the ground floor - there was a delivery guy with a case or two of liquor standing at the bar and there were two cooks in the back. The cooks saw us but didn't acknowledge us or offer any info about a table. OK, so we walked outside and followed the sign to Frisbee's Wharf (down the shell path). So we get to the bottom and there's lots of tables there but nobody besides us was there. But it's lunch time, right? What, is everyone who works here a federal employee and were on their 3-hour lunch break??? So we go back to the restaurant on the first floor of the building - the delivery guy with the liquor is gone but those two cooks are in the kitchen but again, after seeing us standing there looking bewildered they just ignored us. So we stood there for a few minutes and once again went outside and walked down the little trail to Frisbee's Wharf - still nobody there, either. We stood there for 10 minutes and didn't see anyone else. Maybe all the employees were attending a safety class or a seminar on customer service? Anyway, we finally left and headed to Robert's a few miles away, which we should have gone to in the first place. Why open several restaurants in one location if they aren't going to be staffed or if nobody shows up to work? Just extremely disappointing. We won't be back and I doubt we're the only ones who have experienced this at this establishment. read more

What a great spot to have some lobster with a view!! Had a few cocktails and tried one or two of the local beers on tap. Lobster cup filled with butter, skip the roll, is the way to go(this is an actual menu item). Chicken tenders were also delicious which may not be what you normally go to at a place like this but they were clearly not from frozen so it's worth mentioning. Really friendly and fun staff. Excellent! Excellent! I was here on a Sunday afternoon. It was a beautiful day and outdoor seating was available. There were umbrellas to shade the tables or I could sit in the sun. The salmon was fabulous, as well as the roasted veggies. I had the fried zucchini, as well, delicious! Out server was efficient, quick and pleasant. Our wait time was about a half hour, which was no problem because the pier and harbor were beautiful. It was nice and calming to relax over the water. I highly recommended this restaurant. read more

I want to give this place a higher rating for the view is just lovely, and the staff is quite nice. Sit as close to the water as possible. Be sure to make a reservation. I cannot give the restaurant more stars because most of the food is just mediocre. The Caesar salad was soggy, needed more garlic, and the cheese was plain awful. The lobster roll was $35--a ridiculous price. The fried haddock sandwich was just ok. The crab stuffed haddock was tasty, though as were the fried zucchini. Great place. We have been many times, love to come by boat, & the boat tender service is fabulous. Service has always been wonderful, and food & drinks are good. The wait is long because it's just such a great spot. Our only complaint - once dusk arrives so do the MOSQUITOES. We literally get eaten alive every time. Please get some citronella torches and candles to place around the vicinity of the outside tables. (It works as we do this at our house!) read more

We were extremely disappointed with our recent visit. We were looking forward to a nice night out, but that was not the case. We had a reservation and were seated at a leaning bar table practically on top of the hostess table with a view of the fence. A couple who came 10 minutes after us were seated at a prime table in front of the water. There were also at least 4 empty tables in the front row with great views, but we were seated in the very back. We saw parties come in and be seated in those tables after us with no reservations or with inside reservations. On top of that, the service was poor and we waited for our drinks for a long time. With all of this, we decided to leave and had dinner in Portsmouth. read more
