I've been looking forward to visiting Frita Batidos' new location in Detroit for a while and I'm pleased to report It is every bit as good as the original in Ann Arbor. In some ways I like the location even better, with a great interior space. We had a chorizo Frita (always my favorite frita), and the beef Frita. The beef Frita was perfectly cooked, medium rare, thick, and juicy! The tropical slaw was as refreshing as ever and I stretched a little outside my normal range of Batidos to try the Chocolate Español. Outstanding! The passion fruit Batido is also worth a trip here. *THIS REVIEW IS FOR ANN ARBOR LOCALE Be ready for lots of hustle & bustle! We went on a Sunday around 1pm and the place was absolutely JUMPIN'!!! There was a constant line to order, but there is a TON of seating (virtually all "community" from what I could see) both inside & out, and it being a nice day, our very large group of 12 were all able to sit together inside. The food: Holy Cow, (pun intended) are the burgers PHENOMENAL!!! I saw this place on a list of BEST BURGERS IN THE US, so I was expecting to be letdown, slightly--but this was not the case at ALL!!! Amazing burgers. All in our party were pleased, and beyond, with their food and drink choices. The "service" part of it is just weird. They take "a name," then wander throughout (yup, inside & out) calling out said name, hoping to make the connection. I feel like they should do a number/table tent situation to make it easier on all parties involved--and specifically lower the noise quotient. This is a small gripe. We were lacking 3 of our beverages at their first trip, but for such a large group, this wasn't a big deal. I got the pulled pork bowl over the rice and OMG it was fkn amazing. I'm so happy I didn't settle for chipotle. The meat isn't over cooked and they give you a nice portion for $12. We ordered catering for Halloween today, and it was excellent. The meats are so flavorful and tender, and everything was delicious. We got the create your own sandwich bar with 2 meats - chicken and ropa vieja - both yummy. The beef is sweet and savory and the chicken is spicy and in a green sauce; both slow-cooked to perfection. We also had plantains both ways - fried as crisps with avocado spread and shrimp ceviche, and twice fried - sweet with an herby garlic sauce. I highly recommend the shrimp ceviche - it was absolutely perfect, and what I'd order just for myself next time! The crispy plantains are so addictive and salty sweet. Yum! We also had the "best snack ever" which is this cheesy, tomato-ey rice and beans. Very good. Lastly, we had the mini churros which were pretty great - they arrived still warm! They look and taste pretty much like cinnamon sugar donut holes. We didn't get the chocolate dipping sauce this time, but I bet it takes those over the top. The mayos that come with the setup were delicious as well - no complaints on food or service - everything was great. Communication was open and clear and delivery was right on time. After a friend told me that this place has THE best Cuban burgers (something I've actually never had before, I just knew that I had to make a stop at Frita Batidos to try one. I got the Chorizo Frita and made it Loco (every topping but bacon & jalapeño) and it was so juicy and flavorful. I loved the shoestring fries on top even though I'm usually more of a crispy kind of fry girl and thought the egg on top was the perfect complement. I did think parts were a bit saltier than I would have liked, but overall, a very, very solid burger. I also ordered some Conch Fritters to share with my fiancé and they were actually even better than the Frita. I'm a fan of the Ann Arbor location so it was about time I tried out their new location in Detroit. Overall, it was a great time. The restaurant is located on Columbia Street right next to the Fox. The street looks like it's still in development to be this type of trendy European-esque street. I can tell it's being slept on because it was empty on a Thursday night. Not complaining though because we had the restaurant to ourselves. The food: You can't go wrong with the black bean frita with a sunny side up. You simply cannot. Before the pandemic I never had the pleasure of going to a Frita's. They have two locations (Ann Arbor and Detroit), and unfortunately the pandemic hasn't been kind to this business, especially the latter location. I want everyone to know that even though Yelp reports that this place is permanently closed, they are indeed open periodically for pop-ups. The staff also indicated that they are going to try to reopen on a more permanent basis next year in January hopefully. Now that I got this out of the way, I have to say I AM SO HAPPY I GOT HERE. My friends and I were looking for a bite in Detroit and everything was packed. We came upon Frita's pop-up by accident and we went all in. This is the best burger I've ever had in the state of Michigan. It's really hard to compare this to places that offer more traditional versions of a burger, but the flavors here work and the ingredients are fresh. The shake was a great compliment to the salty/savoriness of my meal, which included a pile of fries on my burger. My friend also shared the fried plantains with me which did not disappoint. What an amazing find. Chorizo burger with the works cannot even be picked up. Had to use a fork and knife to eat this amazing creation. It is definitely filling. They add fries to your burgers so if you don't necessarily need to buy a side of fries. BE CAREFUL because the price can stack up depending on what you get! I died and went to heaven eating the fish sandwich topped with citrus slaw and shoe string fries. A co-worker and I found out about FB's in Detroit. I love the Ann Arbor location so wanted to see if the Detroit locale was just as good or better. The food and service are the same. I am thrilled FB has the Detroit location which is closer to my job and home. It is located on a street for pedestrians only NO CARS :) The plantains with a light garlic sauce are delicious. A must have is the ginger lime drink served in a sandwich bag. The unique flavor compliments the food or is tasty and refreshing on its own. We came here before a concert at the Fillmore one day last week. It was pretty busy, but the line moved quickly. I don't enjoy fend-for-yourself community seating, but after some light stalking, we found a place to sit. We got a fishbowl of sangria because it was a better deal than buying two cocktails each. I had the chorizo burger with cheese and my husband added the tropical slaw. Both came with small sides of fries. This was one of those meals where I was groaning about how good it was while I was eating it. I didn't make a scene or anything, but almost. I love the Frita Batidos in Ann Arbor so I was super excited to hear they were opening one in Detroit. The location could not be any better! It's in an alley right next to The Fox Theatre so the perfect place to pregame a concert or show at the Fox or Fillmore. It's great to have a restaurant close by to these venues since there aren't a ton of restaurants in the area other than Rusted Crow and Bakersfield and they are still a bit of a walk. There is actually a side entrance to The Fox right next door, which was super convenient. This alley is very atmospheric with brick paved street and dreamy hanging lights spanning the alleyway. Reminds me of the Belt and looks like there are several restaurants/businesses that are moving into the alley to neighbor Frita's. Frita Batido's is inspired by Cuban street food where you choose your Frita, a spicy chorizo burger topped with shoestring fries, and then choose your batido, a tropical milkshake made with fresh fruit, crushed ice and sweetened milk. With the fritas, you have the choice of black bean, chorizo, chicken, beef, or fish. The fritas come in two sizes, single patty for $8.50 or double for $11.50. They come with only shoestring fries on top but you can add a fried egg, Muenster cheese, cilantro lime salsa, and tropical slaw for $1.50 each. Avocado spread is $2 extra and bacon is $2.50. So extra toppings can definitely add up. You also have the option to make it "loco" and add everything but bacon and jalapeños for $4.50 or you can make your frita "light" for no charge which puts your frita on a lettuce bun, no mayo and no fries. I had the single chorizo frita with Muenster cheese, fried egg, and avocado spread. It was super delicious, massive, and messy! The frita was juicy and the egg was cooked perfectly runny. Fritas are pretty large and I see no reason to order a double unless you are completely starved. Next time I think I'll try the "loco" option because it seems more cost effective. For my batido, I had the chocolate Espanol, a milkshake with a blend of three different chocolates and cinnamon and I added a splash of dark rum. It was so good and tastes like a boozy chocolate cinnamon spice cake, yum! The Batidos or milkshakes are $5-$5.50 and you have the option of coconut cream, fresh lime hibiscus, passionfruit or a lighter batido. You can add rum for $2 more. They also have fresh juices, sodas, lemonade, beer, and mixed drinks like margaritas, mojitos, and sangria. Friends have ordered margaritas and the sangria and they weren't anything to write home about so I'd stick to the batidos which are always excellent. Frita Batidos also has plenty of sides like coconut ginger rice, black beans and loaded plantains. I had the garlic cilantro fries which come with a garlic aioli dipping sauce. They were very good and are $3.50 for a small which was a good size. I'd highly recommend getting a churro! The churros are amazing! Very large portion, hot, with warm cinnamon sugar, yum! The churros are $2 a piece or you can get three large churros with chocolate dipping sauce for $7. One churro is actually big enough to split. Frita Batidos is fast casual, where you order at a counter, give your name and take a number and they bring the food to your seat. When we came it was extremely busy as they had only been open a week and there were three concerts going on in the area that night so service was a bit chaotic and it was a challenge to find a seat. There are long communal picnic tables inside and in an outdoor patio area out front. It was so crowded we considered sitting outside even though it was super cold out because it was so crowded that there was nowhere to sit. Divide and conquer and scout out a table as people are leaving is the only tactic and we eventually found a table inside. There are carafes of water at each table which was nice. Prices seemed to be a bit higher here compared to the Ann Arbor location. There's parking for $10 in lots nearby. Overall, I love the food at Frita Batidos and the location could not be any more phenomenal so I will definitely be back and I'm sure it will be a pre-show staple. read more

I only post Yelp reviews if my experience with a company exceeded my expectations or disappointed me so much. Going to Frita Batidos yesterday definitely disappointed me. Frita Batidos was so hyped up on Instagram when it opened last Wednesday and I've read the good reviews from their Ann Arbor restaurant. Our Cuban friend, who we haven't gone out with in 2 years, was so happy that a Cuban restaurant just opened and wanted to try it with us. I'm giving the 2 stars because their interior design was spot on. It had high ceilings, white walls, and semi-communal seating which made the space look so fresh and open. We also liked the fact that the lady in the counter was so helpful when we told her it's our first time there. This low rating is because of the food. -The "Crisped" plantains with the salsa and guacamole were chewy and not crispy. I would've expected it to be made fresh for getting a small serving for $4 -The Shoestring fries were greasy. -The Inspired Cuban was so underwhelming for a sandwich that cost $12.50. The sandwich serving was big but all the meat in it was bland. No hint of lemongrass on the roast pork. The bacon was thick but tasteless. Our Cuban friend's wife didn't finish half of her sandwich and he said his Lighter plate was "okay." My husband said the chorizo frita was alright but the bread was "dusty." We were so underwhelmed that we decided against posting about this place on social media. Maybe we caught them on an off day? I don't know. I'm not sure if we'll go back for a second try because this was a disappointment on a day we all looked forward to. read more

FINALLY. The best Ann Arbor restaurant is open downtown after years of talk! Went in at noon on opening day and the line went to the back wall (15 people long) but the line moved quickly and we received our food quickly as well. Just like Ann Arbor, seating is communal. Unlike A2, there is PLENTY of space. There's also water, sauces, napkins, and dominoes on the table. I had the chorizo frita for the first time and it was so much better than a regular frita/burger, so much more flavor but still the same texture as a regular burger. Service was so smooth for it being a hectic opening day and there weren't any issues with food! A successful opening for Frita Batidos. read more

Went here on a Saturday evening and it was PACKED! I had heard really good reviews of the place and was willing to wait and I'm glad I did. I got the chorizo burger fully loaded with all the toppings and it was absolutely delicious. Full of flavor and definitely a large portion- had to even eat it with a fork and knife. The restaurant itself is a fun and airy environment with large shared tables inside and outside. The servers were kind and attentive despite the large crowd. While I did absolutely love the food, I was slightly disappointed by the way my lemonade was presented- it was quite literally put into a plastic bag and tied around a straw. I paid $3 for that?! In general the menu was a bit on the pricier side but I was willing to pay the price if the taste *and* presentation were there. I don't know if other drinks are served like that but I really hope not. It's not even environmentally friendly. Regardless, I do think I will come back to try other food. So very glad that Frita is back open in Detroit. This is one of the best and most interesting places in the city. The menu is eclectic and completely unique. It's very casual - almost quick service. Seating is at large communal tables which only adds to the good vibe. It's obvious that everything is made from scratch with combinations of ingredients purposefully thought out. Highly recommend "the best snack ever" and the conch fritters. Both were incredible. And then there's the drinks. The spicy margarita is the best I've had. The Baditos - Cuban creamy frozen concoctions in 5 or 6 flavors - are delicious. Passion fruit is our favorite. Seriously, one of the best! We were heading downtown for a 7:30 show, but between work and having to get the kids in time for the babysitter, we weren't going to arrive in downtown until 6:45. We, of course, looked at Yelp! for good restaurants we haven't tried (we were going to try Poke Burri but it appears to have closed already?). So we called a couple of places and they said there's no way we can sit down and eat and still make the show. So, our next attempt was Frita Batidos. I wasn't expecting them to say we can finish our meal in time just like everyone else, but they offered to let us order in advance by phone so they can have the food ready by the time we got there. I ordered a Double chicken Frita (Cuban inspired sandwich) with avocado spread. It comes with fries that is layered on the Frita as well. It was amazing! The chicken was really juicy, the avocado offers a semi-healthy element, and the fries in it was definitely a value add. I also ordered a coconut cream Batido (a milkshake/slushie type consistency). It's such a great change of scenery from your standard flavors. The food was ready as we walked in. It's a clean, brightly lit place. The seating comprises of several long picnic table, with condiments and water and naps in bins that are built into the table top. Since the food came out so quickly, we also ordered the twice fried plantains. I've never had plantains covered in garlic-cilantro butter before. Even though I can feel my arteries clogging with each bite I take, where has this been all my life??? The location is great in terms of being so close to all the Foxtown theaters, sports venues, and even the Opera House, but parking is awful since the intersection of Columbia and Woodward is blocked off. You can only park behind the building and it's impossible to find the box to pay for parking. And since there's no WiFi, it took my husband 15 minutes just to pay for parking on ParkDetroit. We would've fought that ticket if we did get one. We even took pictures of all the error messages. But, I would get the exact same meal again even though I'm a staunch beef supporter. read more

I absolutely love this restaurant! It's such a unique place. The moment you walk in, you are surrounded in an all white decor that gives you a certain nice feel to it. I came here and tried their fish burger with fries. And let me say this - it was deliciously messy! Just the way a nice street burger ought to taste and be. Furthermore, their garlic fries are flavorful and thin and starchy. There's a generous amount of fries that they provide too So that always helps. And if you thought that was enough they will make you go crazy for their Batidos drinks. I have tried mango, passion fruit and my absolutely favorite: coconut. It is a taste of tropical heaven.
