This is my new favorite Italian place. It's really close to where I live, but I drove by it 100 times before we tried it. It's very vanilla on the outside. I've now been there twice in the last month. I really like how is decorated, reminds me of a villa I stayed in while in Tuscany. Phenomenal Italian spot in Hermosa! The servers are super friendly, the pasta is delicious and the wine is super affordable. Currently during the covid pandemic, they offer outdoor dining along the sidewalk. They do offer reservations so be sure to call ahead to reserve a table. I got the lamb special which is served on top of lemon pepper fettuccine in a cabernet herb pesto. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the lamb was super tender. The pesto sauce was just enough but not overpowering. The portion size was huge too! I also got to try the artichoke shrimp gnocchi and it was superb. I loved the sage cream sauce, which was a delicate balance to the gnocchi and shrimp. Perhaps the best part of this restaurant is that they keep their wines SUPER affordable. On their wine menu, they explicitly state that they do not mark up wines like your typical restaurant so you can afford to try different wines. I'm all for it! read more

They immediately asked what I ordered and with no hesitation started making it there for me with no extra charge since I paid through the app. The food was also so delicious. We love this place! It's in a great location right near the Hermosa pier and is very family friendly! We came in on a week day for an early dinner and it wasn't crowded at all (which is great when you have a toddler who doesn't understand waiting when she's hungry). The staff was super friendly and accommodating and the food was really, really good. The calamari was a favorite as was the pesto ravioli, and Italian sausage. Casual spot for some good Italian food. Portions are big. Parking is with meters so give yourself time to find parking. Inside is simple decor and can be very busy - not an Instagram spot. It's family friendly too. They have a good selection of dishes and the wheat pasta is actually pretty good. They are great about subbing in food items to make it the way you like it. I always have a ton of leftovers. The bread is YUMMY and warm. It will fill you up so try to save room. I don't ever get dessert because we are full but I know they have a flourless chocolate cake that's pretty good. Salads are ok - the putt is could be colder and the dressing is meh. Have to love the friendly service the second you walk in. Instantly puts you in a good mood. The atmosphere was light, bright, and the other patrons all seemed to be having a good time. If Sesame Street was an Italian Bistro, this would be it. We didn't get to try a lot of the menu items, and the espresso machine was out of order at the time, so we decided to just go with a couple snacks. HUGE shout out to their calamari. Crispy, flavorful, and just an absolute delight. You know it's a good dish when you start picking at the tiny batter morsels left behind. Should have ordered more! The caprese was pretty good. Hard to mess it up, and I like that they used larger basil leaves, as opposed to tiny or crushed ones. Made it easier to eat, and didn't leave any mess behind. Most of the pasta dishes are enough to split for two people. The ravioli servings are a bit smaller, but still shareable. You must try the jumbo ravioli with prosciutto & also the bolognese sauce. Service here, was something I've honestly never experienced before, I am happy to say that not only did they seat us very quickly, but our waiter Giovanni was attentive and friendly and the manager was so kind. While enjoying our delicious food, we ran out of time on the parking meter, and the staff here saved us a huge ticket. Fritto Misto is a popular neighborhood restaurant that features Cali-Italian cuisine. Despite opening its doors 25 or so years ago, it remains a popular destination on Pier Ave in Hermosa Beach. The interior resembles a casual Italian cafe with furniture made from used wine boxes, hanging pendant lights and beautiful handpainted pasta bowls hanging on the walls. They feature a small curated selection of bottled wines, and I was delighted that I was able to enjoy a DOCG Italian Chianti and re-live my recent trip to Italy. While calamari is available at many restaurants, I thought that the calamari here was much fresher and not chewy like other places. It is served with tartar and marinara sauces. I'm eating less meat these days, and I opted for the Mediterranean lemon fettuccini with artichoke hearts, and mushrooms, and tossed in a lemon pesto sauce. We were quite surprised and delighted with the "pillows" in a pesto cream sauce. Our server, Ashley was attentive, engaging, informative and friendly. She answered all of the questions I had and I noticed how she kept our eye on our table without having to ask us whether we needed anything. To top it off, she gave us a complimentary lemon bar dessert! If you aren't familiar with the South Bay, be aware that the parking enforcement people watch the meters like a hawk. read more

Lowkey place, but hands down the BEST Italian restaurant in the world. The garlic cream is TO DIE for. Nothing beats Fritto Misto! I get the gnocchi w/ garlic cream and pancetta every time and it never disappoints. You can order the set pasta on the menu or you can build your own. Don't forget to save some of your bread to sop up all of the pasta sauce! If you can't finish all of your pasta at that moment, they are great leftovers too. Just like coming home again. It's been a long while since I've dined at Fritto Misto - tonight I realized why: the 2 hour metered street parking makes it impossible to enjoy a leisurely dinner and a nice walk afterwards without having to feed the meter. This task can become ridiculous during the peak dining hours at summer especially if your reservation isn't available by the time you arrive. If you're lucky a space on a neighborhood street is the way to go. Most notable and refreshing to see is the menu hasn't changed much. I can still get my two favorite dishes: garlic shrimp with black and white pasta (20 years ago B&W pasta was so new to the scene people would be in awe when it arrived at the table) and cajun seared chicken - the two dishes that made me fall in love with Fritto Misto back when I lived closer to the Santa Monica location. Parking there was equally obnoxious but a bottle of St. Supery Cabernet Sauvignon was only $12, the trade off made the visit worth it. No St. Supery on the menu now (it's closer to $30 a bottle, which is still a good value, try it for yourself) but that's okay because on this night they had Lodi Zinfandel. I'm a lover of Lodi Zinfandel and will order it with ice cream or burritos if it's on the menu. Salads with toasted walnuts and balsamic vinaigrette that's so good I'd drizzle it on the aforementioned ice cream, ha! We enjoyed the cajun seared chicken which was just like we remembered - creamy and peppery delicious. The Turkey sausage lasagna with pink sauce was delightfully good - there was a kick to the gravy, not enough to send you into spicy heat oblivion but just enough to say 'hello!' and make it memorable, we would order it again. I guess I forgot that the portion sizes are quite large, so we decided to forego the B&W pasta this time (it's still on our fav list though). Everything is easily shareable. Some leftovers for a nice lunch were packed up for us. We could not leave without having the dessert that made the 80's famous - tiramisu for two, which by the way is plenty for four. We made a dent but had half packed for the trip home. Whipped mascarpone and cocoa, it's a duo I'm certain was born from a divine power. This place is small, and it gets packed but the service is decent and friendly. The take out business was super busy. I'm not a delivery fan and prefer to dine in over take out, so we'll have to make another visit here soon. I had a stretch where I used to come here on a regular basis, but stopped because I find this place to be rough around the edges in both food and service. Service is casual and friendly, so it's fine. I have regained a liking to this place during COVID because it's good for takeout. The food is too unrefined for me as a sit down "Italian" restaurant. Everything is heavily sauced and heavy handed. It's really just an American pasta restaurant as opposed to Italian. Our regular orders include the pasta pancetta, spaghetti bolognese, fettucine alfredo, calamari, sage cream chicken, and spaghetti carbonara. Pretty basic stuff. The bolognese and alfredo are our favorites. They got my order wrong yesterday and gave me a spaghetti bolognese as well as a fettucine bolognese. The bolognese has a creaminess to it that makes it much better than just marinara or meat sauce. It pairs well with the spaghetti, but it was noticeably very different when with the fettucine. The sauce didn't cling to the fettucine as well as the spaghetti, so it was not as good. It was a neat experiment to compare them side by side. The alfredo actually has some depth to it other than just cream and cheese, so the kids like it. I'm a big fan of traditional carbonara that is egg , cheese, and pancetta based (it's not supposed to have cream), but this doesn't hit the spot. It tastes too much like the alfredo here. Overall, I'll keep coming back for takeout, so no problems here. read more

I really wanted to like the place but the food was just okay. GREAT servers, very friendly. Quick turnaround for food. But the pastas were fine. The pillows in pesto was a little sweet and very heavy/creamy. Garlic shrimp was better. I like the chewy black squid ink pasta but the shrimp wasn't very flavored. And the sauce was also a little creamy. You could def taste the garlic though. I got the Gorgonzola and spring mix salad, which was pretty good. You do get free bread which is nice. Bread is very hard and the crust is a little hard to bite into. They do give you a plate of garlic paste to mix olive oil and balsamic vinegar and dip the bread in. I would give this place another try since the service was so good. Maybe I just didn't order the right stuff. read more

If you're craving Italian food (specifically fresh sourdough bread) this is the perfect local SouthBay spot! We came here for our casual anniversary dinner because we craved local Italian with Cousine that we could dress very casual for. Ambiance: A little loud, great for families or dates. You will have to speak loud due to this being a smaller place and the lighting is bright. Menu: We have had the Cajun/heavy cream dishes before and although they are delicious, they are very heavy and will leave you very full (almost sick). Even though it might joggt sound as good when your hungry, opt for the lighter options such as the specials or Sicilian/ pesto dishes! Then snack on the fresh bread and plan on getting dessert. We always get the specials... this last time we got the mahi Sicilian spinach linguine which satisfied every craving and the lamb pesto/ mushroom dish. Parking: parking may be difficult in the evenings as it is 1 hour parking in Hermosa during the summertime. Or snag a metered spot for 2-3 hours (some only take quarters). 0r park at the green belt for free parking but light have to walk 0.5 miles to the restaurant (which is ideal if you plan on walking the strand or watching the sunset). Dranks: We brought our own bottle of wine and it was a $3/person corkage fee. Service: I would rate 3.5/5. Nothing special, but nothing to complain about. They do well at explaining the specials and different options but also pressure you into a decision pretty quickly. I wish they still had outdoor dining to be more intimate (but I don't think that is on the restaurant). read more

The salad was the best thing we ordered here. It was refreshing, with organic greens, a light somewhat sweet dressing, with some feta cheese. The Gnocchi was alright The sausage lasagna was a disappointment, i didn't eat it after a few bites. It had chunks of bell peppers, onions and mushroom--who does that? The presentation was overall messy, when I slice the lasagna, I can't even see layers inside because it's already fallen apart. I gave it a 3 because the service made it nice. read more
