This place is so inconsistent...I've been for breakfast and it was okay...service is hit or miss. Food usually takes a reasonable amount of time but the waitresses are either super friendly or do the bare minimum to serve you, take your order and drop off the check. It's definitely pricey for small servings. Today I wanted to order a turkey subroll. I called and was told they have grinder rolls so I ordered what I wanted. Went to pick it up and got half a sub roll with such a small amount of turkey on it, was charged over 8 dollars, and when I opened the sandwich later on, the bread was toasted. Clearly the sandwich I ordered was meant to be cold and a full sub roll. Go to Bronx deli across the street if you're looking for a sandwich. read more

Hubby and I stopped in for lunch today. I ordered the lobster roll, not knowing if it would be fresh or dripping in butter. It was light and very fresh. Not a ton of butter and the lobster was very tender. They could have been a bit more generous with the lobster, but it was a reasonable price. We also split onion rings and a shake, which were both homemade and tasty. Hubby had a steak sandwich, which he said was delicious and tender as well. I would definitely return! read more

Cool place, but terrible food. I ordered corned beef hash and it was worse than dog food. I told the waitress, and she said it's CANNED! She added "If you can't make corned beef hash right, then don't make it at all".....Regular's actually prefer the can over fresh made???? What is going on? She then said on top of that, they tried using fresh mushrooms and everyone complained, so they went back to canned mushrooms. I swear, I am in the twilight zone! read more

I was there with a friend for breakfast...the woman behind the counter was rude and ignored us for the first 10 minutes we were sitting there... I come to this place for breakfast every so often. The food is good, and the prices definitely beat out any similar places in the area. If you're expecting fresh squeezed juice and organic vegetables just picked at the farm, stick with your yuppie brunch spot. The menu isn't extensive, but it's good. I've always had friendly, although sometimes slow, waitstaff. But I've never been served cold food and my meal is always exactly how I ask for it. If you want a delicious classic breakfast, it's worth the wait. read more

Went for lunch today! I ordered fish and chips. I could only eat the chips! The fish was so smelly, I couldn't eat it! It must have been old! My partner had good meatloaf, but instant mashed potatoes! One more bad thing is the dust on the curtains was so thick, I was afraid it would fall off in clumps onto my food! (Chips, that is!) Fritz's is a local favorite, but they're practically the only game in town. It's called a snack bar, but it's a diner with a standard diner menu. It's seat yourself and the food is good. We've ordered breakfast out a number of times and they do a great job packaging it all up. It's easy, speedy, and not a bad price. We do love their pancakes and their home fries are also really good. Their non breakfast fare is typical diner food. In the summer they serve ice cream out the side of the building, which I suppose suits the snack bar title a bit better. Overall, it's a great little place to stop in for a bite to eat. It is at times crowded with locals and the decor could, like many small town diners, use some updating. read more

Came here for breakfast & it was good. Service was quick. I ordered the veggie omelette w cheddar & it was great! Had their home fries, very good. Big portions for omelette:) Their coffee is not bad either, typical diner coffee . I really wish diners would serve quality coffee but I have to remember it's a diner not a coffee house. We have been coming to Fritzes for a while. Mostly we come for breakfast. I love their eggs benedict. It's nice to have a good local breakfast place. We have been coming more for dinner and ice cream in the last year and a half. Food is served quickly and our now 6 year old loves it here. Recently we went and the special was prime rib. So I gave it a try. I was pleasantly surprised. It was favorable (even trying to taste with my cold) and frankly one of the best I've ever bad. Our 6 year old pushed away the mac and cheese for more bites of my food. The waitress could be more efficient but she seemed overwhelmed with the busy diner rush. Great service! Cute place to have brunch. Kids portion for chocolate chip pancakes was excellent! The shake/malts eating area is very nostalgic. Potato hash and spinach with feta cheese omelet was delicious, eggs made just right. Reasonably priced. This is one of the very few places where it is a real breakfast/brunch places since it closes shortly after lunch time. A little disappointed at the home made corned beef hash, needs more work. This was my second time coming to Fritz's, and I can honestly say that I will never go back again. For starters, our waitress came over with two glasses of water. She dropped one of them on the table and water spilled all over my jeans. Eating breakfast in wet clothes is not exactly my idea of fun. I understand that everyone makes mistakes and would have been okay had she apologized. Instead, she stood there with her hand on her hip and said, "Womppppp". She laughed at herself and just stood there, watching the water drip off the table onto my stuff. It wasn't until I started sopping up the mess with the napkins on my table did she think of leaving to get a rag and help. After cleaning up the mess, she said, "Now I'll bring you a new glass of water and it'll be like nothing ever happened." Hardly. Eating breakfast when you're all wet is not like "nothing ever happened." She twirled away and I saw her performing ballet moves when handing customers their bills. She was acting very immature and childish. This incident made the start to our breakfast pretty terrible, but we were still willing to order food and give her another chance. When she came back, I ordered an omelet with bacon, mushrooms, onions, broccoli, and swiss cheese. I ended up receiving an omelet with onions and mushrooms. The mushrooms were canned and tasted very plastic-y. The onions were very oily and tasted as if they were taken off of someone's philly cheesesteak. I told the waitress that my omelet was missing bacon and broccoli. She proceeded to fight me over what I ordered. She insisted that I did not order broccoli and that I, in fact, had ordered sausage. I KNOW for a fact what I ordered, and everyone at the table confirmed my order. She still insisted that I ordered sausage, onions, and mushrooms, to which I responded that there was no meat in my omelet at all. She then said she would just take the omelet off the check. When she brought back our check, we saw that she had merely taken off $1.85. Instead of dealing with her, we decided to complain at the register. I told the woman at the register that my order was completely incorrect and that the waitress said she would take the omelet off of the order, but had not. She then asked me if I ate it. I said of course, because I was not going to wait for another one. She then proceeded to tell me that the policy is, "You have to pay for what you eat." This was absolutely ridiculous. I had water spilled all over me, my omelet was not what I had ordered, and my waitress had fought me over my own words. Eventually the woman spoke to either the manager or owner who finally agreed to have it taken off our bill. It was a very stressful breakfast and I am certainly never going to return to this establishment ever again. read more

I can't believe the raves that this place gets from other people. It certainly seems to do a booming local business, but I can't figure out why. I have dined in many a luncheonette/diner in the tri-state area, and even a lousy diner can usually pull off a decent breakfast. Not Fritz's. Every place I have ever been makes a western omelette with diced ham, diced green peppers, and diced white onion. Frtiz's took what looked like the toppings to a Philly cheesesteak, added some shredded ham, and wrapped it in an unappetizing egg. There was so much water/juice from the peppers and onions it was leaking out of the omelette (and it tasted about as good as it looked) and made a nice puddle around everything. No homefries--what diner doesn't do homefries with an omelette?--and the toast was barely toasted, so the butter made it nice and soggy. If you are in the area and want a great breakfast, head further up Rt. 67 to Leo's in Southbury; I should have. read more
