I finally ventured my way over to Frosted and tried their ice cream cupcake. I like cupcakes and I like ice cream. I figured I would also like their ice cream cupcake. Oh what a disappointment that experience was. The cupcake and the ice cream were so hard and dry. I guess it's been sitting in the freezer for a while. I expected something totally different. I was expecting a soft warm cupcake with the yummy ice cream in the middle. If you want ice cream with your cupcake you're better off adding the ice cream to your cupcake yourself. Even though the ice cream cupcake was a disappointment, Frosted makes good Red Velvet cakes. Hence, the 4 stars. I like how their frosting isn't too sweet like most places. I also like that it's not pile on super high. It also helps that the staff here are really friendly. Maybe they're high off of sugar? Do yourself a favor and don't get the ice cream cupcake... Just stick to the basics and get one of their regular cupcakes instead. You'll thank me later for it. read more

It's definitely not the best cupcakes I've had, but it still fully satisfies your sweet tooth, carb cravings, cupcake addiction... whatever joy cupcakes can bring to a person. I just love those darn things! I should have went with my gut when it came to picking and choosing because I wasn't completely won over with the choices I made - Orange Cream Cheese, Chocolate Mint Chip, and, their flavor of the month, S'mores. Okay, I admit the Chocolate Mint Chip was delicious. I'm a sucker for mint chocolate anything, so I might be slightly biased. The other two... meh, not so much. I do love how soft and moist their cakes are though. Perfect texture. My top cupcake shop remains My Delight Cupcakery in Ontario. That doesn't mean I won't frequent Frosted. Their prices are awesome. Only $2.95 each and $30 for a dozen. That's a deal right there. I don't know any other cupcake shop that offers a discount if you buy a dozen. I love the ice cream stuffed cupcakes!!! I have never had a dessert like these. My personal favorite desserts are: anything red velvet, cupcakes, and ice cream. SO, of course when I found out that Frosted has a red velvet cupcake stuffed with ice cream, I knew that I had to have it. It is only $5 and is big enough to easily feed two people. It is also conveniently cut in half - perfect for sharing. The dessert is one of a kind and absolutely fabulous. The level of sweetness is perfect and not overwhelming at all. Absolute perfection. I also love that every first of the month they have a free tasting of mini cupcakes of the flavor of the month. Such a fun place! Came here to pick up cupcakes for my boss, and ended up getting one for myself: the chocolate caramel toffee. Because toffee is my favorite type of candy. It was so good! Must eat it with milk though, it was pretty sweet. The cake was moist and perfect. The frosting was not overly sweet but I'd still say be prepared to guzzle water with it. I can't believe I haven't reviewed Frosted before, it's my absolute favorite cupcake place! I've been coming here since it was in its first tiny store off of 2nd street years ago. My personal favorites from the regular menu are the Nutella, Mint Chocolate Chip, and Strawberry Cream Cheese, and some of my favorites from the Flavor of the Month rotation is the Almond Coconut from April and the Apple Cinnamon from November. The divine nature of the Frosted Cupcakery's Pumpkin Cupcake may rank it as my favorite cupcake, ever.* Take the creaminess of pumpkin pie, add some flour to make it spongy, and then all the removed moisture goes into the spiced cream cheese icing. It's pretty much heaven. I also had their Salted Caramel Buttercream hi-top. So, there's no actual caramel and no chocolate. Basically I bought it on name alone. Surely no one would salt buttercream and say there was caramel in it if it didn't at very least fit the flavor profile... It's weird. It's not super sweet, and is mildly savory. It's also, pretty much, heaven. I have made it a mission to find the best cupcakes in Southern Cali, and I thought SusieCakes had the best ones there, but I think that I have found a new winner. I've tried several flavors (thanks to my company's social Wednesdays where we get cupcakes for the entire office!) I've been satisfied with everything that I've tried. AND they have pupcakes .... which I must say, my dogs LOVE them!!!!! The minute they hear the crinkle of the wrapper and the smell of the pupcake, you've never seen such well behaved dogs willing to do any trick in the book for a pupcake! I've been on a quest to find decent gourmet cupcakes in the area and I think I may have to call off the search. Sure, you're going to pay $2.75 for a cupcake, but I promise you it'll be money well spent. With an abundance of choices and really personable staff, including the owner who is almost always there, I don't see any reason, if you have the money, not to come here if you're craving cupcakes. Your mouth sure will appreciate it and, if you're getting it for others, you'll be the hit of the afternoon. Almost everything here is good, i wish i could give this place a full five stars i was "torn" . All of our visits here on 2nd street whether it's after a nice dinner from open sesame or la creperie, you think dessert to go. The cupcakes here are moist/light, and the toppings are not thick, gooey and overwhelming. My favorite cupcake is the caramel butter cream toffee, it's sweet, good and you can feel the crunch of the toffee bits as you enjoy. My gripe here is not always all flavors are available but there is always friendly service here. I'm a fan of this place for it's balanced cupcakes and buttercream flavors. read more

Eh? What can I add to this already lengthy discussion of, gulp, cupcakes? Well, the style is fantastic. The concept and design is great. But, yeah, they are just selling cupcakes. More than a few of my friends have complained about the price, but as I see it, you pay that much for a dessert in a restaurant and I wouldn't want to eat more than a cupcake full of dessert anyway. But maybe that's just me rationalizing my sweet tooth AND my weakness for cool design. Frosted appeal to me on both of these levels. If I go there once or twice a year, I can certainly justify the price and calorie count...right? By the way, they could be more creative with the flavors and the fillings. I'm not sure why they don't branch out. It seems ripe for a twist on an old theme. As it is now, my favorite is the carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. read more

I love Frosted. My personal favorite cupcake shop. Of course when Sprinkles got super big, other cupcake shops saw a boom in business, too. I first heard about this place because my best friend went on a date, and the guy got her a red velvet ice cream cupcake. She told me about the ice cream cupcakes and I just HAD to try it. So I spontaneously stopped by with my other best friend on our way back from the OC to South Bay. Little did I know you have to call ahead for an ice cream cupcake because of the high demand. We still decided to get cupcakes and I fell in love. I got the neapolitan cupcake-- like the ice cream! It was so moist and the frosting on top didn't taste old (like Sprinkles cupcakes sometimes do). I went back after a while and finally tried the ice cream cupcake. I called ahead and made sure to reserve and order the ice cream cupcakes ahead of time. I got the red velvet ice cream cupcake, mint chocolate chip ice cream cupcake, and an almond coconut regular cupcake as well. The red velvet ice cream cupcake comes with the red velvet cupcake itself, filled with vanilla ice cream, and topped with cream cheese frosting. Of course it wasn't as moist as the regular cupcake I tried before because it was kept frozen, but it was absolutely delicious! The mint chocolate chip ice cream cupcake wasn't as good. The mintiness was good, but it was too chocolatey for both me and my boyfriend. The almond coconut cupcake was a monthly special (look on the menu because they have specials!) and it was delicious. I love almonds and I love coconuts, so it was perfection for me. Just like that first neapolitan cupcake I had (which I believe was a monthly special as well), it was perfectly moist and the frosting was the perfect consistency. It is slightly cheaper than Sprinkles, but the cupcakes themselves are smaller. I like them better than sprinkles also because thy're not as dense. They're lighter and fluffier while being moist. I don't go to this location anymore, just based on the fact that there's one in Hermosa Beach now, which is much closer to me, but I had to give this location some love! read more

My first experience with Frosted cupcakes was because the boy who was crushing on the best friend gave her a box and she shared them with me. He got her one chocolate cupcake with caramel buttercream toffee and one pumpkin flavored one. I have to say, the chocolate one was AMAZING. The caramel buttercream toffee frosting was absolutely delicious to a point where it was orgasmic. It was sweet, yet not TOO sweet where it makes you want to go blah. The pumpkin one was alright, but I could have done without. The next time I tried Frosted, I went with my friend Lisa L. We went after class one day so we drove from CSULB down to Belmont Shores. It's located on the same side of La Creperie actually, and just a few shops down from it. Parking can be horrible in this area - you either parking in the neighborhoods or in the small parking lots if you can't get street parking. We were promptly greeted once we walked in. It wasn't actually busy so we took our time looking at the different flavors. My friend and I were feeling a bit gluttonous so we opted to split a dozen each for about $30. We each picked 6 cupcakes - I picked 2 chocolate / caramel buttercream toffee; 1 oreo mix, 1 chocolate / caramel buttercream toffee, 1 red velvet / cream cheese and 1 chocolate/peppermint mix (we went around Christmas time so it was a holiday flavor special I guess). I forgot what my friend got, but the ones I got were amazing. I definitely liked the red velvet ones here more than Sprinkles. It's not as sweet as the ones at Sprinkles', which is what I liked about it. I actually bought a royal white / salted caramel buttercream hi-top cupcake as well. That one was one of my favorites too. My friend and I bought hot chocolate and ate some of our cupcakes there before we left to go back to school. Four stars because though I'm a huge fan of the chocolate / caramel buttercream toffee and royal white / salted caramel buttercream, the others were a bit too sweet for my liking. The price is good I guess and I like how the store is actually closer to me than Sprinkles is - parking's a drag though. I'm most likely going to come back in the future for my cupcake needs and to try out the ice cream cupcakes they offer as well. read more

First things first, I made the mistake of assuming that all their cupcakes are pre-filled with ice cream. THEY ARE NOT. I believe that you must order the ice cream filled ones separately. Anyways, so I had a Red Velvet (which I assumed had cheesecake ice cream in it) and my bf had the Cookies n' Cream. The Red Velvet was decent at best but my bf really enjoyed the cookies n' cream. Their cheesecake frosting is good, but not spectacular, like the one at Sprinkles. For having a sub-par Red Velvet cupcake, Frosted Cupcakery has not made a very strong first impression to me. But the cupcake was cheaper than Sprinkles and they had a unique variety of flavors, so 3 stars seems adequate. After hearing about this place from my sister, I went to get some cupcakes on a Thursday afternoon. I think they're awesome, but I'm giving only four stars because they are so expensive ($30 for a dozen). I got the chocolate, red velvet, and vanilla cupcakes. I love the frosting... not too sweet. It tastes like real buttercream. My sister adores the red velvet and thinks it's the best. The chocolate cupcake itself was not too sweet and had a lot of chocolate flavor, which was good because it complemented the frosting nicely. If you want to impress people, get cupcakes from this place... the presentation is top-notch. I can see myself stopping for a cupcake or two whenever I'm near 2nd street. read more

These cupcakes were very moist -- perhaps (the cake portion) is closest to home-made than other cupcake shops. Was craving for something sweet after dinner and decided to have cupcakes. Came in and they had a good selection, I like how they have cute toppings that goes with the flavor of the cupcakes. For example, a strawberry shaped gummy candy for a strawberry flavored cupcake, or a lemon shaped candy for the lemonade flavored one, cute things like that. I ordered four different flavors but was only able to try one, which was the red velvet since it's my favorite and I still think the red velvet at Sprinkles is better. I came here for a gluten free cupcake today and everything was great, the service and the products looked amazing. The girl was very informative; however, when I got home and dove into my gluten free pumpkin cupcake, there was a hair in it or maybe it was a long string of lint. I was a little disappointed but I was questioning, do they wear hair nets or do they think that their hair doesn't shed. I would go back but maybe I'll have it there instead of taking it home. This is probably my favorite cupcake place. I find Sprinkles to be vastly overrated (dry, too dense and outside of red velvet just overly sweet messes) so I tend to frequent Frosted whenever I'm feeling like cupcakes. I've had quite a few of their cupcakes but the vanilla is what keeps me coming back. It's got a wonderful vanilla cake topped with buttercream with just a hint of vanilla bean. Absolutely delicious. Also, the cake is moist and not too sweet. I've had various other flavors and they have all been quite good. However, I'm a vanilla guy and the vanilla cupcake is what I love. If they have it, try the Neopolitan though. What put the final score at five stars is that they allowed my fiancee and I to do a portion of our engagement shoot. What can I say about this place. The cupcakes are just the right size. The frosting isn't too overbearing, and you have many "different" flavors to choose from. People typically go for Red Velvet (which taste great, I might add) but I have to say that I am a fan with some of the other flavors as well; First off...Have you ever heard of a Strawberry Lemonade Cupcake??? That's freakin' awesome (not to mention original). They also have flavors like chocolate caramel toffee, peanut butter chocolate, nutella, strawberry shortcake, lemon cream cheese, mint chocolate chip, orange cream...etc (there are more but I'm sure you get the picture) Yum! The pricing was on the medium end (not too bad for a different cupcake experience) and the staff were very friendly and helpful, being it was our first time going. I also picked up a few "pupcakes" for my 16-year old "wow-wow" at home. She always makes me feel bad when she smells something delicious on me and have nothing to give to her. By the way... I sortta feel obligated to go back because on my way out I noticed that they have "ice cream" cupcakes. That's freakin' sweet and I've got to try one of those. I'm giving this place 4.75 stars out of 5.0 due to its quality, and originality. I'll definitely come back here. One downfall which doesn't give it a perfect score is the parking. GOOD LUCK! It's metered street parking, and its very scarce (especially on the weekend).
