Otherwise you get highly disappointed customers who pay for expensive cupcakes and don't receive what they paid for. Every aspect of the cupcake at Frosted is on point. The cake is never dry, and the cream cheese frosting is not too heavy or sweet. My favorite flavors so far are carrot, strawberry, and lemon. I even got a pupcake for my puppy, and he gobbled it up so quickly. When I visited again, my puppy was jumping up and down because he knew he was getting another pupcake. I love the cupcakes here! The cupcakes are cute and as pleasing to the eyes as they are to the stomach! Cakes are fluffy and moist, and topped with just the right amount of velvety icing that is at the perfect level of sweetness, without being too sweet. it is so ridiculously good. I'm embarrassed to say I've been here 3 times in one week. I don't know what they do to those cupcakes but it's amazing and the frosting is killer! I never got on board with the cupcake craze and I'm not a big fan of red velvet because i think it's the same thing as yellow cake with a drop of LIE (aka food coloring) and I usually scrape the frosting off because it's too sweet. For a long time I was a big skeptic on the sprinkles hysteria and didn't really understand until I had cupcakes from Frosted. Now Cupcakes and even frosting rules. Frosted Cupcakery leaves so much to be desired... I consider myself somewhat of a cupcake connoisseur, so when I found out about Frosted Cupcakery in Long Beach, I was thrilled and even hopeful, perhaps, that I might have my very own Magnolia Bakery close to home. When I finally rolled by the place to find it open after numerous unsuccessful attempts (the hours are totally inconvenient), the long line outside seemed promising. I ordered a chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting, but - sadly - I knew after the very first bite that I'd never frequent the Cupcakery again. If ever a cupcake is going to be delicious, it has to be smothered and covered in thick, rich buttercream frosting, and this frosting was anything but. The texture was horribly off, and it wasn't sweet enough nor creamy, as any top-notch frosting should be. The chocolate cake itself was bland, and it lacked that light, fluffy-ness that I find so desirable in cupcakes. I can actually say that I had a hard time finishing the poor sucker. The idea of Frosted Cupcakery is positively wonderful, but the cupcakes themselves fall horribly short of the glory that is due to them. Frankly, it breaks my heart and even maddens me a little bit. This itty, bitty cupcake shop has big flavor and selection for cupcake lovers everywhere. My personal favorite has to be the cookies and creme cupcake with a small Oreo as a decorative garnish. I mean, a cupcake with a cookie on top...GENIUS!!! They have some staple flavors (red velvet, vanilla, chocolate, toffee) but they do special flavors on a weekly basis. The cupcakes are baked fresh daily, but the only bummer about that is, no matter what the time, if the batch is gone, the store is done for the day ( breakfast cupcakes anyone?) Since Long Beach is very pet friendly, this place has little desserts for your beloved four-legged friends, so you can enjoy your cake and they can too! These are hands down the most delicious cupcakes I've had. I've had cupcakes from all the well-known places in the US, but I always come back to Frosted Cupcakery and we are obsessed. It is hard to explain how delicious they are, but we ordered several dozen for our wedding and all our guests complimented us on the cupcakes and asked where we got them from. They were lovely to work with to help us decorate our cupcakes to our wedding colors and themes. We don't live close by, but whenever we visit we HAVE to get a dozen to share. Our favorites are strawberry and chocolate but honestly you could not go wrong with any of the flavors. I come here every now and then when I want to indulge in one of my cupcake fixes. It's among the many shops down Belmont Shore so it's a perfect dessert for after grabbing a bite at one of the near by restaurants. It's just a tad expensive at $2.95/cupcake considering they're not so big. The high top cupcake sandwiches are only $1.45 though and I like them much better. Red Velvet and cookies and cream are the way to go and tastes even better with ice cream. Only thing I don't like is most of my sweet tooth cravings happen late at night and they close early at 9. For the first time since I was diagnosed gluten-intolerant, I felt pity for all the poor, misled wheat toleraters of the world. In my hand (but not for long) was the world's moistest, richest, and tenderest cupcake creation ever to grace a bakery -- and it was gluten-free. Thus, the gluten-"obligates" (while busy munching on FC's second-best-tasting cupcakes in the world) would never think to choose this taste of paradise in a pleated paper cup...mistakenly believing that it wouldn't taste as good as "regular" cupcakes. They're right; it's BETTER. As it stands right now, there is only one GF flavor available at Frosted Cupcakery, at any given season. In Spring it's the strawberry; in Autumn, you get the awesomeness of Pumpkin. I've also heard rumors of a default Red Velvet which may or may not be true, but since there's never a shortage of demand for Red Velvet, why not offer it year-round along with a seasonal flavor? Heck, why not offer everything in GF? I know, I know... So here's my little soapbox rant: If only somebody could spread the word; just because you CAN eat wheat, doesn't mean you HAVE to, or even that you SHOULD. And, this little strawberry & cream cheese delight is the perfect reason NOT to (because after all, there is no such thing as a wheat deficiency). Need another reason? How about seeing if a week of GF could clear up your skin (as it did mine) or solve your tendency toward ear infections (as it did mine), or greatly reduce your, em, Flatulence (not telling!). Do a side-by-side taste test if you don't believe it. You've got nothing to lose now..and while you're there, ask if they can't have more GF flavors in the future. But..you could always go back to the gluten cupcakes if you're not convinced. After all, Frosted Cupcakery makes a ton of them and they're still better than any other cupcakes. read more

After reading the reviews, I've come to the conclusion that people feel very strongly about cupcakes. With that said, I don't, so my review might seem inflated to uber cupcake critics. I absolutely loved this place. It was my birthday, and we were walking up 2nd St. after a day at the beach. It was very appropriate to find the Frosted Cupcakery, order some cupcakes, and sit at their adorable little bar to celebrate the big day. I ordered the lemon; my husband ordered the red velvet (two of the most popular we were told by the owner who served us the cupcakes herself and who also gave me my coffee for free since it had been brewed a couple of hours ago (she even offered to brew some fresh coffee if mine tasted too stale)). Most of the cupcakes have a healthy amount of a tasty cream cheese frosting that's dee-licious! The cake was moist in both cups, and nothing tasted overly sweet or waxy like many store bought or even bakery bought cupcakes can. Yes, it was overpriced--$2.75/cupcake! But, I don't think most of us frequent a cupcakery daily like we might a bagelry . . . it's a splurge, right? With the abundance of cupcake shops around lately, I'm surprised with how unimpressive most of them are. After hearing so many great things about Frosted, I had to try it out. I bought a dozen cupcakes, one of every flavor available. They come in a convenient carrier that keeps all the cupcakes upright and separate. I paid $30 for 12, plus a free one my bf got for his birthday. They also offer 6 complimentary birthday candles at the counter. The cupcakes were gorgeous with flavors that made my mouth water. I was especially excited for the Mint n Chip and Cookies n Cream. Unfortunately, they didn't taste half as good as they looked. Not even the more simple flavors like red velvet or carrot. I was especially let down by the flavors I was most excited for. Something about the frosting was just not appetizing. I'm still craving a cupcake as good as they looked and sounded. On the other hand, my boyfriend LOVED them, but he loves anything sweet. I'm not as crazy about sweets so I'm a little harder to impress. Personally, I've had better cupcakes from a grocery store. I figure there has to be something about this place for it to be so popular. I might be back for those ice cream filled cupcakes, maybe a little ice cream is all they need. read more

I've had a lot of their flavors, like vanilla chocolate, that just did not wow me. But their red velvet had become a favorite, and usually a must for every visit. Recently I had their lemon (with, you guessed it, CREAM CHEESE FROSTING), which was excellent. It's no RV, but great for when you feel like changing it up. This place is DIVINE. Every cupcake I've eaten from this place has been superb. I really love their strawberry one with cream cheese icing, but they have many other flavors including red velvet, orange (pictured), chocolate peanut butter, and lemon that I will gladly vouch for on any day. They have a rotating flavor of the month so there is always something new for you to try, I think this month it is strawberry lemonade. They also have a gluten free cupcake option for the folks, like my partner, with gluten aversions, though they can out of those bad boys if you don't get there early in the day. We all enjoyed our cupcakes- (my son doesn't like frosting, but I liked mine!)- they gave us a candle, and we sat at the window and shared as much of a celebration as sick mommy could handle. A friend tipped me off to this place about a year ago, and I have been an addict ever since. Listen up Orange County: spend the extra 20 minutes on the 405. Skip Sprinkles, and come here instead! The flavors here are numerous and delicious. I recommend chocolate/peanut butter, lemon cream cheese, mint chocolate chip, and the caramel toffee. They always have a flavor of the month, and some of those are better than others. If you need a sugar fix, these cupcakes are a great option. The only downsides are parking on 2nd street and the crazy influx of deranged kids whose parents let them eat cupcakes and then have wild, sugary joygasms all over the store. If you run into that problem, just pick up your goods and eat elsewhere (or enjoy the birth control - thanks, parents of Long Beach)! read more

Deliciousness. We got the Chocolate Chocolate, Mint Chocolate and, of course, had to try what appears to be a California fad flavor, the Red Velvet. The cupcakes themselves are fine (I can probably bake them myself), but what makes it worth the exuberant price is the frosting! Each one had excellent, melt-in-your-mouth flavor. However, my hands-down favorite was the Chocolate Chocolate--and I almost didn't even get it because I was like, "how good can they possibly make a standard chocolate cupcake?" REALLY FREAKING GOOD. When people say that chocolate is an aphrodisiac, they are talking about the frosting on this cupcake...I kid you not. Just try it and tell me you don't get a warm fuzzy feeling and smile across your lips. I had to knock the rating down from 5 stars to 4 because of the price. Coming in just slightly cheaper than a Sprinkles cupcake ($2.95 versus $3.25), the question is, is the Frosted Cupcakery cupcake better? I say yes, but only because of the Chocolate Chocolate.
