The best Italian food in Bakersfield! It doesn't get any better than at Frugatti's! They start you off with bread and there is no other bread like it! You dip it into the peppered olive oil and the bread is nice and warm on the inside so you pull a piece, dip it in the oil, put it in your mouth and it just melts but has a bite to it because of the pepper. My favorite item on the menu is the spaghetti and meatballs! (I've had this dish in Italy and I am reminded of that trip every time I visit!) You start by eating the meatballs that taste almost like lamb meat but with some calf meat as well. The noodles are cooked perfectly and then smothered with meaty tomato sauce that is to die for! If you come to Bakersfield, you can't skip out on this great food. read more

My boyfriend and I recently had dinner here. It was a weekend evening so there was a little bit of a wait but that's to be expected. After about 40 minutes we were told our table was ready, then the hostess changed her mind and had us wait 10 more minutes telling us the people at the table they wanted us at were "almost done". We could also see several open booths and tables... Anywho when we got seated our table was clean but there was food crumbles and sauce stains on my menu. We also noticed a LOT of dust on the lamps, booths, decor, etc. which was a bit of a turn off. When our drinks came the rim of my boyfriends glass still had food crust on it. I ordered 'Anne's lasagna' and the boyfriend ordered a calzone with sausage and salami. The lasagna itself was delicious, however the dish it was served in had a ton of black baked on overflow cheese and sauce. The boyfriends calzone was made incorrectly, instead of sausage and salami, it was just ham and cheese. The waitress was very nice and had the kitchen remake his food but it was kinda a bummer to be eating alone while my man was waiting on his food. When his food did arrive the waitress was again very nice and informed us that his meal would be comped. But it took a long time to bring out his food, I was already done eating, that's also with me taking my time, trying to prolong the process so we could eat together. The meats were correct this time but the dough was under cooked. He ate what he could. We had planned on ordering dessert but decided we should just cut our losses and skip it. Overall the waitstaff was pleasant enough and helpful but the restaurant was dirty and the quality of food preparation just simple isn't worth the price. read more

Usually have a great experience but not this time. From the beginning server was not personable did not take the time to listen or ask anything. Bread came out after appetizer. Things needed and asked for came later or not at all. Didn't check on us between tables or after delivering something. Refilled watered down soda in same cup. When at the table didnt give a chance to ask for anything. Food came out cold and without modifies then was reheated and brought back same food. Remake was done wrong also. We ordered a wood fired meat lovers pizza for take out. The meats were skimpy in quantity, and bland in taste. The cheese tastes like melted plastic. None of the crusting I expected of a wood-fired pizza was on ours. Waited 15 minutes total to place my order by phone. We would have done better to get a frozen pizza at the store; we would have the same quality for half the price! read more

Deeds speak louder than words. We were a group of seven - me, my wife, my in-laws, two children and a niece, several of whom are difficult eaters. We had two nights to spend in Bakersfield. We stumbled into Frugatti's on the first night (thank you Baymont Inn for the recommendation), but on the second night we had a unanimous decision to return. Unanimous! Unprecedented! It's almost as if they had the Midas touch. Everything, from the bread to the soup to the generous entrees to the desserts to the large selection of import beers was good. As we as a family tend to share food, I got to taste at least 10 different entrees over the two nights - it's useless for me to try and say what we liked. Between the seven of us, we liked EVERYTHING! The only reason they don't get five stars is they were a little pricey. You pay for quality, yes, but even that should be within bounds. read more

At Frugatti's you will have the typical expensive Italian food prices with subpar food and service. We were really looking forward to dining at a good Italian restaurant and Frugatti's definitely looks the part. However, we were greatly disappointed. We ordered the Chicken Parmesan and Chicken Cannelloni. The Chicken Parmesan was extremely dry, not even the two extra sides of marinara sauce was able to make the food bearable. It was even burned on the sides. It was the first time my fiance has ever complained about a food order. The Chicken Cannelloni was good, but not as good as I would have hoped. We hope to find a better Italian restaurant in Bakersfield in the future. read more

Very nice Bakersfield Italian restaurant! Really love the Lasagna and the homemade bread. Service is always decent. I sure miss the Lengthwise Beers on draft! I was completely dissatisfied with my food and service! My boyfriend took me there to celebrate our anniversary, the pricing was ridiculous and the food was completely not worth the amount we paid. The marinara is way too acidic, noodles are over-cooked and flavorless, and the cannoli's? Please. This is not authentic Italian food. We usually have a great experience when dining here but today was the exception. By the time we were asked if we wanted anything to drink we ate the entire bread bowl and were ready to order our food. Then I had the pleasure of watching our waitress wander around aimlessly while we all sat there dying of thirst after consuming all that bread. I forgot to mention it was not even busy. We received our food which was fine until my husband got his clam chowder which resembled beef stew?!? First off, I have been here multiple times before and have always had good service, but the other night was terrible. My fiancé and I were seated, and our drink order was not taken for at least 10 minutes. All the while, a party of 6 who was seated afterwards was served before we were! To top if off, we didn't even know who our server was, we got more service from the bus boy than we did from our own server! The bus boy seemed ver attentive of our needs, and seemed more genuinely interested in caring for our table than our server did. Meal was good, but the service could've been much better. Also, the lasagna is a little pricy for what your getting, but I guess that's what you agree to pay for when you go to an expensive place like that. read more

That being said, if you are wise, you take half your meal home for lunch the next day so it's a bargain. So I decided to check this place out since it was in my hotels local monthly magazine as well as had a 4 plus star review. Apon arrival I ask to see a menu before I was seated and the nerve of the bus boy or whatever you want to title him said some smart remark stating "we have a unloyal customer" where I replied I just need to check the menu before I decide. I asked what's good and he is all over the menu.... so I decide to to try it and then get seated. I ordered a beer which is always good if you know is bottled. Next I ordered and asked what would be best, the steak or the Salmon. I see the logo here on the Salmon and the waitress states that a great choice. That's why it's marked. Lol!!!!! I got my meal and I can say it is the worst meal I have ever ordered. I never waist food and today I did. Over half my plate was not touched. Waisted $37 on my meal and $19 on my UBER ride. Now at Black Angus cause I am still hungry...... my dinner now has gotten to $60 plus dollars not including the UBER rides. What a waist. I am surprised this place is even open. read more

I ate here last weekend because I wanted to go on a nice date with my boyfriend. It is definitely pricier, but they give you big portions, and Italian food is usually on the pricey side. I had the veggie lasagna, and my boyfriend had the garlic chicken calzone. The veggie lasagna I thought was good, it was a little too cheesy for lasagna but I like cheese so it didn't really bother me. It was also huge, and I had to take 3/4 of it home. My boyfriend seemed to like his calzone, and ate the whole thing. The service was okay, the waitress was nice, but wasn't super attentive. After we got our drinks she waited a little too long to take our order, and then I was with an empty glass for a while before she got me a refill. read more

We stopped coming here because the service was not the best. I think most of the servers were high school students and were not real attentive, but the food was always great! We decided to do a call in as my husband was craving lasagna and thought we would give it a go... First, the lasagna is $18. $18!!! No bread, no salad, no soup. I said to my husband, "this better be the best tasting lasagna you ever had"! Sad to say it was not the best. Their lasagna was flavorless (the sauce) & I think they forgot the cheese and very little ricotta if at all. My husband was very disappointed. I ordered simple, their Mostaccioli which was always my favorite and our daughter ordered their kids Alfredo. Mostaccioli was very flavorless (kind of gross actually) and very little sauce and I think the cheese for the Lasagna might have been put on my Mostaccioli. My 8 year old said she didn't like their Alfredo. We tasted it and it had an almost fish taste. We also ordered two desserts. Chocolate cake and peanut butter pie. The cake was old and dry but the pie was good. I ended up throwing away our left overs today as no one wanted to reheat food that tasted as if it had already been reheated. I know Italian and this was NOT Italian. We ordered 3 meals that did not come with soup or salad and only two breads. I guess everything is ordered a la carte? Anyways, we won't be going back and will stick to our old favorite, Sorellas. Two stars because the Peanut butter pie was good and the dinner salad (that had to be ordered separately) was good. I have dined here many times and generally am very pleased with food and service. Did a take-out last night and had a couple of minor issues. First off, I asked about getting 3 bread rolls for my friends and myself with the order of chopped salad and a large Nonni's pizza. I was pretty disappointed when paying to find that I was charged about $1 for each roll ordered, since I've never been charged for the bread when dining in. Even worse, when I got the order home, there were only 2 rolls, but I'd been charged for the 3 ordered. Lastly, the chopped salad, which I've enjoyed in-house before, only had a little ham in it and no salami at all. This is a $15 salad, so would expect better. The pizza was very good. read more

Food is good but really pricey for italian food that is not all homemade. I was in food service for a number of years, so I have pet peeves. #1 no suggestion of wine. #2 did not check back after dropping food. #3 you do not ever, EVER slide a BURNING HOT plate in cront of a 3 year old. #4 $2.20 ridiculous for a 3 year olds drink. #5 child menu pizza, $8.99 + $2.20 for child drink equals $11.19. Price of adult personal pizza WITH drink $9.99. I asked server Joshua who responded with, "I don't make prices I just serve food". He should actually be selling food. #6 dropped check before we were done and without selljng us dessert. At $7 per dessert and $6 prr glass of wine is $39. At 20% That would have put another $8 in Joshuas pocket as well as $39 in the till. And yes, we did all want wine and dessert. I also love their stuffed mushrooms which were also not "sold" to us. Overall food was good. Overall service was poor. Hey Joshua, also not a wise idea to be sitting at bar right by us playing with your phone when our glasses were empty and my father had asked you twice for a refill that the hostess finally brought. I will go back as service was really a one time experience for here. But management really need to look at prices that are high and don't make sense. Oh yes, by the way, we eere informed that the less expensive adult pizza was much larger than child pizza. Go figure. read more

We've been eating here for 25+ years off and on. Love the chicken cannaloni but they've changed it from years ago: before, you got two OK-sized canneloni stuffed with this marvelous garlicky chicken/cheese mixture. Now you get get one large one. I was disappointed with the service. I asked about a salad I was ordering and the waiter answered me like I was in the wrong for asking. Never hardly checked on us. He was only taking care of us and another table, so it wasn't from being too busy. Left dirty plates on our table while he stood by the register passing the time talking to a fellow waitress. Finely removed them when he brought out the main course. My daughter had to go and ask for parmesan cheese, because their was no telling when he would come and check on us again. The food is good (waited longer than normal for it) but not worth the service you receive. I've had the worst trouble in Italian restaurants lately for some reason. Had another waitress bad experience the last two times at Olive Garden. I mean when you spend 30+ for dinner you expect a little more. Ive been to Frugattis twice recently, once in March and once in April. The service was fine on both visits, but the food was consistently disappointing. At my March visit I ordered what was called Filet tips on pasta alfredo. The alfredo was highly garlicky, and the meat was beef but Ive had better "filet" tips from Winco grocery store. The noodles (noodles? What about all the wonderful pasta choices from Italy?) were mushy. For all the great reviews I've read I thought that we perhaps had just a bad luck visit. So when friends invited us to join them for dinner at Frugattis, we agreed to give it a second chance. I ordered the Thai chicken and fettuccini. Here is a lesson: don't order Thai food in an Italian restaurant. It was so disappointing. Flavor was nondescript, pasta on the plate was overwhelming, I couldn't eat it. Frugattis bread seems more like a dinner roll than authentic rustic Italian, it was boring. My companion ordered Scampi on both visits. Consistently the noodles were mushy and the shrimp was scarce for $21. I expected to see authentic Italian pasta, not mushy egg noodles. The Alfredo sauce was runny and highly garlicky so for heavens sake call it garlic alfredo sauce and we will be forewarned. Seating at this restaurant is uncomfortably tight, and the prices are high for mediocre pasta and bread. read more

Excellent Italian food. Extensive menu not a cheap place but a very good one. The garlic salad dressing was especially good as was service and food quality. We got there a little early but seen people come in and be seated right away. Even though we were a group of nine I seen empty tables where hostess could of made things so we could sit down. She came back and said are you ready to order we said yes we would like the chicken things for a appetizer, the combo pizza, and chicken Parmesan with Alfredo sauce please I have a severe allergy to tomatoes no problem. The chicken things amazing, my husband said the pizza amazing, my dish not so much the potatoes it came with were cold and I could not eat them, the chicken was dry and over cooked I was sad we felt rushed to leave so after we got our meals and my husband ate 2 pieces of pizza and I didn't eat mine the waitress came back and said would you like me to box it up. I said yeah might as well I paid for it.. Sigh I used the free appetizer glad I did because it was really good.. But my meal just wasn't up to par :-( read more
